Looking around recently, I noticed that the demo timer for personal housing doesn't reset if a member you share your personal with uses the house.
Now I have no issues with the timer. I think 45d is fair for the most part. The thing is, this has been quite a year. SE has had setbacks and delays in providing the content (It's unfortunate but I'm not here to blame anyone).
However, this means that players like myself who play the game mostly for high-end raiding will only have gotten one piece of content over a period of about 20 months.
Given how exceptionally long these delays are, I was wondering if something could be done for players who own houses but are looking to unsub at some point while waiting on the expansion. I use my house a lot (every other day) whether it's for crafting, hanging out with friends, do my gardening, etc. It's definitely not an idle place. But I'm also quickly running out of content where I would usually have just enough to justify my subscription.
Currently, I'm looking to wrap things up over the next couple of months. Then I'll unsubscribe my extra retainers + unsubscribe my account every other month to avoid the 45-day demo. But this is a pain, a bit of a subscription trap, and mostly, it's not really my fault.
I was wondering if resetting the demo timer on shared estates when a roommate enters would be an option up until a month or two before the next expansion? Uniquely from the exceptional nature of this year's content release drought.
I don't think this would affect the market much. People who want to keep their housing are already managing to do so. And you still need an actual player to enter. It would however make things easier for a section of the players who drew the short straw this year.

For some reason my first thought is always "how will someone make a business out of this" so now I'm picturing people selling their alts. Each of your 8 characters can be a tenant in 2 houses - so you can get 16 people to pre-pay in gil before they quit for a year. You maintain their personal houses for them, and SE only loses $2,880 for those 16 subs for a year.
The problem is pretty clear. -

Also for those that only play partime, then an apartment would be an excelen choice, as can do all the things tyou do in a house, but cross breeding plants. -

Guys, I think you are misunderstanding a few things. I understand why things are the way they are, that's exactly why I'm asking for a temporary gesture given the exceptional circumstances (SE not being able to fully provide the content that was scheduled. Which is kinda their own half of the subscription deal).
And make no mistake, people like myself who play more than the average person, have been subscribed for years and use their houses a lot will keep their houses regardless of what happens. It's about whether or not SE is willing to give us some leeway or not in the upcoming months. -

This entire suggestion is based on the logical fallacy that our subscriptions are being paid for SE to develop new content. FF11 doesn't develop new content, but the game still requires subscription fees. FF14 will likewise include a subscription fee as long as the server is maintained. Those subscription fees go in part toward the cost of that maintenance. -

Like I posted higher up. It's more than just Ultimate missing from the battle content this expansion. Also, Ultimates aren't just about people who clear. A lot of people spend months on it without the clear, they count too. And, sadly, running past Ultimates can lose it's appeal because of this very fact, even though attempting a newer ultimate retains its appeal for these players. Have you cleared Delubrum Reginae Savage yet and started your reclears for the additional rewards? I know a couple of groups have managed to clear it already. Surely being the hardcore combat focused player you are, you've joined a group actively working to get a clear.
Dungeons are only unique content the first time you run through them. If you can't clear the dungeon the first time through, there's no way you should even be touching Ultimate. Once you're on repeat mode one dungeon is pretty much the same as another, offering the same stale useless rewards. Not certain how someone who's an Ultimate capable player would even care about dungeon that present zero challenge to their skill.
You're starting to sound less and less like the hardcore combat focused player you want us to think you are and more like someone grasping at straws trying to keep your real primary content (being AFK in a house) from being taken from you while you go blow your subscription money on Genshin or something similar for several months.
Fortunately, SE isn't going to cut your any slack anymore than they cut any player slack over their perceived lack of content complaints. It's a MMO. MMOs always have content gaps and there there are hundreds of thousands of players who still enjoy the content already released enough to continue to pay for their subscription during those gaps.
You don't need leeway anymore than any other player does. -

And just to be clear. Despite having entertained this thread, I don't really care what position random players care to take on this. This -is- the Housing forum after all, so it's no surprise that many would be averse to anything of the sort. I'm just making an appeal to SE. They can be the judge and jury. They're the ones who have the numbers, are dealing with the feedback, and are making the decisions.
I'm well aware nothing could come of it. But I posted because I felt like this "lull" extends beyond the usual battle content lulls we've had in the past and that are typically expected from an MMO. Especially since this expansion was already lower in battle content than usual and gave us way more time to do said content. If you don't feel that that is the case. Feel free to voice it, it'll probably go over my head but it bumps my thread in the process. -

Housing clearly state 1 per account that meets the criterias, which says you gotta stay subscribed if you want to keep the house due to the Auto Demolition timer, signing that contract when you buy a house plot, makes it you who is responsible for if want to keep it, and if not you get evicted after 45 days of no activity or self entering the home.
The Tenants did not buy the plot, the tenants is just people living in your house with no owned house tied to them, if they want a house of their own, they gotta buy a plot when or if it become available... it is the owners responsibility to log into the game and make sure their house is not demolished.
I mean can it be any more clear? it is the same for everyone! so there should not be any special rules for a few, we already got enough problems with 1 person FC's and grandfathered players that own entire wards on certain servers.
Do you demand rent from your tenants? if so I would suggest stopping that as well.
100.000s of players playing this game a bunch of them got houses and they are willing to keep subscribed to keep their property, no matter if we missed a dungeon or two or the likes... I am one of them I have more than 20.000 hours recorded on steam in this game. -

OP you would have a point if we were getting absolutely no new content but this isn't the case. Content you're not interested in doing isn't the same as a lack of content.
While I loathe the demolition mechanic I recognise that it is, for lack of a better term, a necessary evil. As long as there is a severe shortage of houses that cannot hope to even remotely meet the demands of an ever growing population measures need to be taken to funnel houses to players who are actively playing.
I know that "active" is a very strong word for someone who only logs in to reset the timer but that is still more active than someone who doesn't log in at all.
I understand the frustrations of being unable to unsub if you want to keep all your assets. I also understand the anxiety tenants feel if the house owner is beginning to look like they will stop logging in. These situations suck. But these are symptoms of a larger issue; the lack of instanced housing.
OP in the future you may want to consider relinquishing your plot if your tenants or friends willing to share get a house. You seem to be the sort of person who unsubs periodically, and that habit doesn't align with keeping a house in FFXIV. If you become a tenant you would be able to unsub whenever and however long you wish.
As a sidenote I'm hoping that island feature is going to have some manner of housing. If it does it would alleviate the biggest issue housing has. If it doesn't I won't be surprised given SE have some very strange ideas as to what is considered to be a good and fair housing system. Just have to wait and see. -

Imagine for a moment SE did decide to turn off demolition or extend the timer due to being unable to release as much combat content as they could in the time when there was no pandemic. If they do that then anyone who feels SE isn't releasing enough of the content they like would ask for the same treatment. There is already a lot of drama when SE turn demolition on or off for large-scale real life disasters. I don't even want to imagine how it would be if SE essentially said "we're changing how demolition works to make high end combat players happy". -

I've been asking for a gesture, it doesn't have to be financial. The entire process is a pain in the ass, I'd be satisfied with them just making it easier. -

SE will never do this, due to then people that play all year around no matter what and actaully is considered the hardcore FFXIV gang feel like they are punished for playing the game, while a small amount of people WHO apparently only play for Savage and Ultimates ONLY be punished, it would end backfireing hard onto SE themself for a good start, if you want to keep your stuff, then you should stay subscribed to the game as it is, it is not like everyone else is paying for your subscription and neither do you for them.Quote:

If they made it so tenants could reset the timer they may as well just remove the timer. So at the very least everyone without a tenant could get the same benefit.

Not going to happen.
There is no way S/E will be able to put up housing ward to match the increase population of FF14 players (when Blizzard decides to kill their own player base with every decisions out of corporate greed)
The fact is, if you are not going to play, the house plot will be free for next available players, in which, it is a long waiting list -

I get your problem. You want to take a break and not have to worry about subbing for a month to make sure you reset a housing timer to avoid losing your house because there are so few plots available and they are expensive.
But your solution would only make the ultimate cause of your problem worse.
A better solution is the often proposed instanced housing. It would let them create as many houses as there is demand and I would even allow for people who own houses in wards to freely transfer to instanced housing. Freeing up a plot for someone who would want a house out in the open rather than an FC who wants a private clubhouse.
Edit to add: If the technology is there, they could even allow for ward houses who time out to be transferred to instanced housing. That way players don't lose the house, just the public facing aspect and they can pay to transfer to an appropriate sized lot when one opens if there isn't already an open one.
