PvP!! Heck yea!!........ummm no. This begins the death toll of the PvE game. The "balancing" act begins. It's bad enough we have people whining because x class does more or is better at (insert activity) than y even in PvE. Which btw is the most ignorant thing I have ever seen. I mean Player Versus Environment means thank you each and every class for your involvement. The competition is against ..hold it..the Environment! If I want to be the same as x then I will play x not come in here and whine. But now..well PvP screams balance. And so we begin that endless act. FF series IS PvE. No reason the MMO had to be something different.:(

Are you completely aware of what the PVP system entails? You do know that it's bound to an "Arena"-like area right and that it's not free-roam PVP as in particular other MMOs... right?

I would argue whats showing this game in a slow decline is the amount of people doing fate grinds at lower levels. Its starting to drop. Noticed it today when leveling another class. Not a good sign.

I assume you're talking about Jobs being Balanced for PVP which will ultimately influence PVE? Because if that's the case, then there is no need for this thread to exist. They've already announced that PVP will have its own unique set of abilities which will be balanced differently from PVE. They'll look and act like many of the PVE abilities, but they will have absolutely no roll over into any other content.

Ever since I noticed that Archers/Bards have to ability to shoot from a full 360 degrees while moving, I got the opinion that SE has no intention to truly make PvP balanced.

Who knows though, maybe they will make all balancing issues resolved through PvP only traits.

What balancing act?

They've stated that PvP will involve a completely separate set of skills for each class. They will be able to rebalance one without affecting the other.

I stand corrected then. If this is the case I hope the Pvp'ers will have the game they want. And the post had nothing to do with whether PvP was open world but was pointed only at the balancing act. PvE games do not need balance in the classes. I rather see individuality of the classes (i.e unique play styles). PvE is not a class competition.

PvP players don't play FF, they play games dedicated to it or pure PvP games. If you're playing FF for PvP you're doing it wrong.

You do know YoshiP is a huge PvP fan and has played Dark Age of Camelot quite extensively right? The announced "Frontlines" PvP system is quite likely going to be inspired by DAoC's Realm vs Realm.

I'm no fan of balancing PvP for small battles like 4vs4 or something, but large scale RvR like in DAoC is a lot of fun when executed well.

Games like Fantasy Earth Zero which had 1.2 million subs (not in the US) which was made by Square-Enix. On the U.S side we pleaded for summoner to be added in. Us dirty PvP people who played a PVP game developed by Square-Enix.

It won't be PvP focussed no, but there will be PvP, and more than likely more than just arena style PvP. It shouldn't affect PvE balance much, if at all, considering there was talk about an additional skill-set for PvP and there will be PvP specific gear/stats. Judging by the fact that they've already designed quite a good number of different PvP armours, I do believe PvP will actually become a sizeable part of the game.

No one plays FFXIV for PVP. The mechanics in this game are terrible for PVP, it's just a token feature. No PVPers would play FF, and PVP is something the FF fanbase is indifferent to.

In 1.0 it was lightning (single target) and fire (AoE)

The golden age of THM was before the jobs came. He was the best healer (thanks to cone AoE heal), a good damage dealer and was able to tank Dodore.


@OP: why making this thread? We already know that PvP is coming since 2011. And arena would not be the only PvP event. There is also coming a whole PvP zone, called Frontiers.

I like both PvP and PvE, so I'm personally glad they are having both.

I like PVP more than PVE personally. Fighting humans is always more fun. I just hope it will be more large scale.Not open world where people gank people doing other things but areas set up properly for balanced vs with 30+ players per side.
PVE is cool too. After years of gaming though learning to memorise patterns gets a little meh. I am happy to share a game with everyone else's preferences. Why is it that other people get so worried when something they dislike shows up?

Shame the world seems to be losing more and more tolerance to anything different.

who cares if 'PVPer' will be a minority? the key word is variety. I am definitely here to play the PVE content but that doesn't mean that I don't want to join a pvp match every once in a while.

most people are not exclusively one or the other. it's really not PVPer vs PVEer

not forgetting to mention that the competetive gameplay in a typical MMO is always laughable. if I want a real challenge I play planetside 2 or something like that

next thing you know people complain about open world dungeons since people want end-game and SE should not waste time on anything else.

Did PvP make ppl stop doing PvE in WoW? no. In pretty much any other MMO that has any PvP? No. the lack of thought into this post is amazing to say the least.

There are already significant debates about different classes being useless in PvE. Fortunately, as far as people can determine, this is not actually true, though some are less desirable in bleeding edge content due to working less effectively than the other class(es) in their niche. That's not to say they aren't viable, but that they're a lot harder to use as effectively.

Please reread the post. I have no qualms or quarrels with PvP. It was the balancing issue it brings that translates over into PvE that I had a problem with, which I have since apologized for, being I was unaware of separate skill sets for each Pvp and PvE.
