The difference being Khajiit females actually LOOK like a beast race. Nobody wants yet another human cosplay race like Miqote and Viera.

Before the clarification, I would have said there would probably be a decent amount okay with those sort of iterations. :p
Nobody is a strong word. I think a lot of people would be fine with another "demi-human", like fox people. Anyway, don't mistake these posts of mine saying I'd want female hrothgar to be one. :o Making female hrothgar, like, a bigger miqo'te would be a little weird, also considering the male hrothgar face they rejected for being "too close to miqo'te", or something along those lines?
To be fair, viera were always humans with rabbit ears. The problem with FF14 viera is they're Barbie dollified and don't have any of the actual soul of FF12/FFTA viera. I loved those viera, the viera in FF14 ick me out (except Fran, who, you know, actually LOOKS like a viera).
Hm reading this made me think they might make the females smaller in comparison to the males again, kind of like the Au ra =/…They seem to love height differences for newly added races.
Of course it could go the other way around and they will be made tall and fit like a female Kimahri.
I wouldn’t mind either height, as long as they resemble a beast.
I do wonder though, why don’t they just release initial sketches to see people’s reaction BEFORE they make the entire thing? For the surprise factor I guess?
Yeah ;___; I wasn’t around at the time they released au ra, but after I saw the initial sketches I was sad they went a completely different way and saw plenty of other people feeling the same.
I think all of this could easily be solved if there were ACTUAL differences between the clans and not just skin color, eyes and brows. Then they could appeal a bigger audience.
To each their own. I would really love some more viera heels..
I would guess they would be smaller, or perhaps they would be smaller, but look taller without a hunch in comparison to males. I doubt they would have a hunch. In the mosaic (?) of the queen awhile back, that showed them next to a femroe, they were a bit smaller, and a bit more shapely, if I recall. So one could possibly try to make some educated guesses based off that.
I don't know. Even with all the dev time, and the years since this request was first made, SE will do what SE will do, and whatever trailer we get, probably leading into the next expac, will be what we get. Just have to hope it's something good. With male viera, certainly the surprise factor played a big role. I just think this is the way SE does things.
Since these aren't Ronso, the Odds are very strong that the Females will be shorter.
I just dont want them to look all Frail and Danty like the Au-Ra Females.
But I certainly hope they follow the Ronso and make the Females Quite Tall.
I think Months ago it was said that they settled on 2 designs.
UGH the waiting is killing me. I wanna know If Im gonna waste money on a dam Potion or forever be angry at SE.
Honestly, at this point, I think it's safe to say that they won't be coming until 7.0. But I think in retrospect this was very obvious from the beginning. Personally, I hope we see something at the UK fan fest, which I believe is in August, that would keep the same time frame as Male Viera had before release.
Part of me really wants to fear the worst, to think they will somehow mess it up. But then I remember the drawing from a few pages back made by one of FFXIV's artists and I get some of that fear to go away. Honestly, regardless of my taste, I would be more than happy if we got that. It gives the vibes that I want, it has the height that I like and it looks very pretty while keeping the more animalistic head. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but mine sure is!
And while a part of me still hopes for something more like Karmaho's interpretation. I would love to play as this.

That was a Given. Anybody who thought we'd see them any sooner.....eh.
Its pretty much just like Male Viera: and Ive said this for them as well. ""They wont show us anything, until there is something to show""
Which...IDK...later 2023 like...August? Since we are on a....120day / 4 Month Cycle?
And Maybe by then the EW 5.5 story should be wrapped up
probably be same size as the males while they are hunched over and females will have a normal posture.
no no no.
a hunch that ruins 80% of chestpiece glam should be allowed to be explained "bowing" when 1 of the 2 hrothgar tribes do not HAVE queens to begin with (Lost).
If the women dont have the stupid hunch they need to remove it from the men, it sucks, its trash, Ronso are perfectly straightbacked DESPITE having digifeet there was no good gd reason to give hrothgar "generic mmo beast race spine problems" especially not when god knows the women are going to get hit hard with "oh they need to appeal to men who wont play them, they need to be as ootseycutesy as possible" disease like femaura did.
They're not really separate tribes, though. It's one combined culture where individuals may fluctuate between Helion and Lost status according to their current circumstances. The names and even the appearances are only divided up like that because there need to be two clans in the character creator template.
Except they are separate tribes tho bc 1) no mentions of Queen/Martriarchal-despite-0-women-existing trash for hrothgar on norvrandt and 2) they have different PUPILS and fur colors. These are not things predictated on systems of governance. They're decidedly different and thereby at least 1 of the 2 should not have a stupid hunch that everyone hates
Ronso are an independently evolved culture and don't factor into Hrothgar at all.
And I know there was official text – not sure if it's in the character creator or somewhere else – saying that the division of "Helions with brown fur and Lost with grey fur" is a misconception and there isn't actually such a dividing line. The implication being that the devs just had to divide them up to fit the template, and wrote lore to de-emphasise that division and say it's more complicated.
If a Helion tribe's queen dies (presumbly only with no successor), they change their surname and become Lost. That's my understanding of it anyway, until the writers care to go deeper into the system rather than avoiding it.
(Personally, if I was in charge, there's been so little addressing of the "tribal queens" concept in-game that I'd probably just tell everyone that we're ditching that part of the lore entirely and rewriting it from scratch with only the central Queen Gunnhildr and clans that do or don't recognise her authority.)
From official Forum post about Horthgar naming conventions:
As Iscah stated, in character creator they're divided into two distinct different categories more because they needed to give two "distinct clans" for cosmetic difference rather than because there are any real tribal differences (unlike with other races we have, and even there there is place for "anomalies" (with few known in-game examples among Miqo'te).
But see what they wrote as lore doesnt matter bc they immediately ruined what little they did write for hrothgar in bozja.
"Oh? You think the hrothgar homeland neans we'll bother making even 1 female npc so that any part of their society makes sense? No, we don't care enough about this race to make an effort, have some eorzean race fill in as Queen and make some excuse like queens are actually chosen by a cabal of sorcerers rather than being racially similar to the natives."
Theres no justification for hrothgar having a hunch because the devs couldnt be bothered to follow thru on anything that would make sense for the race as of the bozjan storyline, and it should be removed. No one likes the hunch, every cutscene as a hrothgar player uses a hyur run cycle to not show the awkward hrothgar headbob run, just ax the hunch.
Please don't quote that as gospel. Because as Iscah also pointed out, that's been retconned away. It's a thing we've been complaining about since Bozja hit.
It's already been confirmed that the distinction between Lost and Helion is a Sharlayan misconception. Your fur pattern and physical appearance in no way dictates your name. You have Helions with -asch and Lost with A- names within Bozja itself.
Which does bring into question how Sharlayan even managed to hold itself as "the pinnacle of knowledge" when they get something so basic wrong despite having Hrothgar in their midst... but you know, slay.
I suppose I should have been more sarcastic :x
No. I'm not always bowing out of respect. If I'm working with that, it's obviously going to be me mocking the everliving SHIT out of it.
The hunchback looks like I have the world's worst case of scoliosis and need medical assistance stat.
The hunchback looks like I'm constantly constipated and it makes some idle poses look like I'm taking a dump there and then.
The hunchback looks like I'm two Lalafell in a fursuit and trying my hardest to pretend I'm one cohesive cat with an intact spine.
The hunchback looks like I'm suffering from carrying the weight of the world on my shoulders and have been needing a break since Heavensward.
Please do not shove that monstrosity ANYWHERE ELSE.
You want bestial traits? You want a bestial posture? You have other games that do a better job at it, go look those up. Hrothgar do not lend well to it at all.
I know we're not Ronso.
But on this aspect we should very much have been like Ronso...
x,x; the only two Roes I remember sticking out to me were the one guy in the Forum that just "voted", and the guy in the crafting leves who really wants to lecture people on Bozjan history.
Given how they've butchered our lore, I very much DO NOT trust him to do a good job.
It's worse than it looks. It's heavily implied he rants about it and absolutely f*cking no one is willing to listen to him.
Even when you find him sitting in a bench outside the library place, he's still trying to lecture people in Bozjan history, trying really hard to keep people interested.
Now, I know it's not good to dwell on stuff like this, but... gee Square, given how you've dealt with the whole thing lately, it comes off as what the kids call "not cool".
Except for Moenbryda and her parents, and the researcher running the variant dungeons, and... what exactly are you trying to catch SE out on, anyway? There seem to be a number of them around the place. They don't need to be the important ones when the whole concept of Sharlayan's population is that it's a melting pot of different races and cultures.
Actually, my point is that it hasn't been retconned, just never been discussed, to the point it could easily be declared non-canon and officially overwritten without interfering with information in the game so far, only disrupting out-of-game resources like the naming conventions.
There is pretty clearly a Roegadyn population in Bozja in addition to the Hrothgar majority.
"Melting pot of cultures and populations" who can't bother getting one thing right about a race. Bravo.
Why do we rely on these people again?
And on the topic of retcons, uh, how about the fact that it has been declared that it was a Sharlayan misconception + the fact that we see it in-game? It doesn't have to be discussed when the actions made explicitly go against what was previously established. I know it's awkward, but not everything needs to be stated with words. If I claim to be a renowned painter and draw like a 5 year old, am I a painter just because I say so?
It's in the game.
Also, on your response to Zebra... Yeah, I think everyone knows that. If anything because Misija was a Roegadyn. Same as Gunnhildr. Whose race being covered up was kind of a major plot point and part of Misija's motivation for turning bad. ALSO, Bozja had a Caste system. Do you want to go to India and ask how many times the Untouchables had a major foothold in history and their cultural identity? How often their records actually mattered? In a Macro-scale, that is... you know... kinda like the topic we're on?
You literally had to ask this when my PSU fried and I can't verify in-game, so I needed to do the roundabout thing! xD
First of all! Thank you Gamerescape for transcribing stuff. So, onward!
The Lv 80-90 Tradecraft Leves issued by Gygge in Sharlayan sometimes are requested by a guy called "Studium Substitute History Lecturer, Snoeharr". And virtually every single Tradecraft leve he appears in discusses either Garlean history or Bozjan history, sometimes even linking the two.
That Snoeharr is an NPC sitting at a bench in front of the library building in Sharlayan just above in the Northwestern part of the map. You can actually talk to him.
And he's always portrayed, both in those leves and in his own dialogue, as someone who wants to talk about a topic but no one cares to stay and listen to his lecture, with quotes as:
Quote:
Before one can consider themselves a true scholar of Bozja, one must deepen their understanding of Hrothgar culture and its uniquely structured matriarchal soci─what's that? You haven't the time, eh? Well, then fetch me a good gunblade, and I shall leave you be. (History of the Hrothgar, Lv 82 Blacksmith leve)
andQuote:
The Garlemald Republic's evolution into an imperial state is quite fascinating, really. You see, the introduction of magitek technology was the─what's that? No time to chat? Well, then, if you can provide me with a reaper's war scythe, I shall take my leave. (Records of the Republic, Lv 84 Blacksmith leve)
Also, that quote cannot be entirely verified, because he changes dialogue with the MSQ. Currently he says...Quote:
The tale of the pauper who became king has been passed down for generations throughout Ilsabard. Close scrutinization of the names of locations described in the story, however, reveals the possibility that this Ivalice actually exis—what's that? You're not here for my lecture?(default quote)
So :| the only one who cares about Garlean history and has any insight on what very little exists on Bozjan lore... aaaaaand no one wants to hear him |DQuote:
The Ragnarok's return has brought with it numerous discoveries, particularly about the history of the sea of stars—I beg your pardon? You're still not here for my lecture?
Gee, imagine actually caring about the world you're building, hmmm....
Except the OG Gunnhildr was hrothgar, which is why all the murals are of her with cat ears and theres lion statues all over DR.
The geniuses who wrote Bozja decided EVERY QUEEN should bare the name Gunnhildr because...why? and Misijas great grandma or something was a Queens UNDERSTUDY who replaced the actual queen because she refused to sacrifice herself to save Bozja. (correct if wrong).
And frankly the caste system never mattered. "Everything was better under Garlemald" except Misija is 29 and her second field note says Garlemald conquered Bozja 50 years ago (I believe it says "imposed its will" instead of conquered so theres wiggleroom but that doesnt matter because Misija sided with people who wanted to commit genocide over the indigineous race of Bozja because like all ff11 rejects she has an "I got mine jack" philosophy).
1) catching se out on their pretty marketable race bias which is so bad Sharlayan in cutscenes is just Ishgard TWO
2) There should never have been anyone but hrothgar in Bozja, the others are only there bc the devs were too lazy to program women. Au Ra got two nations all to themselves, Viera got Golmore transplanted from 12, why did hrothgar get nothing, AGAIN. They may well as not have been in bozja for as little narrative use as they got over Garlean Nazis + pretty au ra who has has HAS to take up story time with her lame crush on Cid
Hrothgar have Bozja as much as those other races have their locations – especially if you count Raen and Xaela as the independent cultures they are.
And no, the Thavnairian Raen do not have Thavnair all to themselves, but share it equally with Hyurs and Arkasodra. And they certainly don't have the Far East to themselves.
A bad trope. This is exactly the same as talking with Erik where the player character is such an absent-minded scatterbrain they can't focus on the converstaion for two seconds, proving the Professor's asshatty remarks accurate. At least you can ask Erik to provide some info afterwards. I doubt any information is available here.
Let's be honest, it's just an excuse to not write the lore until it's absolutely necessary, even though simply throwing a bone would be better than nothing.
Dammit SE, Let me listen o this guy's stories!!! Whether they are bad or good, doesn't matter I still want to hear them out. But I guess I will have to wait until it will be plot relevant. It would have been nice if you could bring this guy a Gunblade (as a side quest) and he would tell you a little bit of lore about the Hrothgar, or a scythe and he would tell you more about Garlemald. It wouldn't need to be a long story, but maybe something short and interesting. Like the last days of the Queen before the Garlemald invasion or How Solus zos Galvus came to power.
We want hrothgals!!
Honestly, if the Hrothgar do see some more developed Lore with the inclusion of the Female Counterparts, Im all for it.
Sure, I can side with and be utterly freaking annoyed with how the Hrothgar lore has been handled thus far, but if we could see some more love their way with them as a 'Complete Race' then Id be fine with that.
The Lions havent gotten alot of love. And it would be a shame if come 7.0 they dont finally see it.
No Shade, but unlike the Viera crowd, we have been patient and 'mostly' trusting on the team to deliver later.
If our silence isnt rewarded, then it just proves and gives validation that being a pain is the only way to see results.
And I DONT want that to be the lesson learned after 4 years
Before anyone chimes in with snark because you said that...
Yes, Hrothgars have been pretty quiet and patient.
When have you heard Hrothgars collectively say anything before the hairstyle fiasco?
The only reason you're hearing from us now is specifically because crap happened and our patience reached a limit.
Zanarkand is right.
Now... in comparison to Viera, at least Hrothgar lore is a bit more comprehensive than theirs since we get to explore snippets of Bozja and its past. For whatever that's worth. Because yes, while on one hand what we got was just rubble, fire and violence, there was a bit more characterisation there than Viera ever got. That shouldn't be dismissed.
However, this is a Final Fantasy game.
This is an MMORPG with dense worldbuilding.
They should take their world more seriously and explore it with more fairness.
I stuck with FF14 because it reminded me of FF12 with the way the world was dense before. I do take the lore seriously, and I like doing it. If this game is going to make fun of its own aspects, the aspects I enjoy, then I don't have an incentive to find any investment in it. That's not a mark of good story-writing. It just makes me feel like the authors are insecure about their own work.
