Repair NPCs in Dungeons

Never met someone with broken gear since 2.0 beta. I always have dark matters to repair. Always repair when I see these bar going down in my stat window. I mean, do you never check your gear or stat and see these blue/green/red bar depending the %?
At worst I always have sub ilvl gear on me too for my 2 jobs I use the most.
yeah ... it's definitly impossible to have 0%. Especially with that message saying you are below 10% now. Enough to finish a dungeon.

Right. And should such an occasion happen, you apologize and leave the dungeon if too much of your gear breaks. It's a lesson learned to check before you queue. I don't see how it's such an inconvenience you press C on your keyboard every so often to check on your gear.

In nearly a year and a half now, I have only ever had one incident with gear breaking. I just happened to be on an alt and queued into Brayflox only to realize after everything broke... I can't fix it on that character. Little embarrassing but the group I got found it funny.

I don't think this is necessary at all. So many Mender NPC's around. You can also self repair your gear in dungeons if you have lvl'ed up crafters. It's also easy to check if your gear needs repair soon. You also get a warning message at 10%. Putting NPC's in dungeon is also silly thing to look at. Like what a guy waiting inside a dark wet cave with creeps to fix your stuff? No thanks. Just fix your gear regularly and do not wait for it to go too low.

As I said in my post as recently as on the previous page, if my gear breaks, the group can kick me or deal with it. It's not a decision I made so to punish myself for something that simply escaped my mind would be pointless, and I strongly encourage no one else to do so as well. Being kicked and leaving achieves the same effect for the group, which either way hampers its run.

I'm not even talking about myself for the most part in this thread. I'm tired of seeing other people's gear break and nothing able to be done about it and having to suffer for their innocent mistake as well.

Sorry, but if your "standards" involve everyone's entire run going south for one person simply forgetting something with no hope of correcting the problem, we will never agree.

If person so forgetful they need to level their crafts they can then repair when ever they want even in the middle of a battle.

It's like running out of gas in your car. It's an innocent mistake the first time it happens in your life. If it happens a second time, then a person is just making bad decisions.
You don't ask Ford to install back up gas tanks, and you don't tell your friends to get out and push while you sit inside and steer.

And yet people still run out of gas sometimes after the first time. Not to mention, you're forced to look at the fuel gauge in most cars if you want to see the crucial information about your driving, such as speed. So your eye is always on it.

That's also a terrible comparison. If backup tanks were in cars, people would still probably run out sometimes. If a repair NPC was in a dungeon, no one would ever have a real excuse for being unable to repair and screwing their group's run up because of that ever again.

And, with how many people you run into in DF, depending on your luck you may see that "first time forgetter" often. Doesn't make it any less problematic.

You seem to be trying to avoid the fact most of us keep trying to tell you though:
It's not "just an innocent mistake." When it comes to gear durability, it is SEVERAL innocent mistakes that then results in hampering the run. Not having an NPC in a dungeon doesn't hamper the run. YOUR lack of preparation hampers the run. Thus why we are calling your argument laziness. And thus why we find the idea lacking.

Yet while "addressing" this, you simply repeat "it's just a mistake. humans make mistakes." which... is the entire argument we dispute.

I, for one, am not purely against the idea in principle, but I cannot agree to it based on the premise of "I forgot". I need a much better excuse than laziness to agree to.



Gear isn't made of paper. Durability lasts for a while. Press C, look at some bars, pay some money to a creepy stranger in your house, THEN queue. done. QoL achieved. SE made it really easy to repair gear.
Or in my argument, which you seem to ignore, it's even easier. You don't even need to press C. JUST GO TO A MENDER AND REPAIR! No, seriously. If you don't have crafters leveled, then your gear should/will always be 99% or less. just repair your dang gear.


Besides... having an NPC in the dungeon doesn't actually help or address your argument anyway. an NPC in a dungeon wont do anything to help you remember to repair your gear. All it will do is enable your poor behavior- in fact, it encourages it, as some one earlier gave examples of. Encouraging poor behavior is the opposite of QoL. encouraging bad behavior is the opposite of "progress".

These are all things we have explained and nothing I have seen actually addressed. Can you address them? It would be nice to actually see if the other side has anything to actually discuss. All we have is "Because lore" and "I forget".

I don't see why we have to have a repair NPC or why we should just have these mistakes be a thing (wouldn't mind an NPC if lore fits, but has to be feature scrapped so people don't shop).

If people don't want to have another repair option, which is fine, could we at least make it so you can't queue for stuff if you're below like 50% durability? At the point of hitting 0 everyone would leave anyways lol, and you couldn't re-queue until you fixed your stuff. So if people don't want the extra net then just put up a simple blockade instead :P, in a round about way it also solves the issue. Compromise :D. (I do think its funny if you're frequently queuing with broken gear, that's really hard to do.. like I've never had broken gear in a dungeon before lol).

Although I really wanted the moogle buddy, and feel it could fit (just partial features inside dungeon, so people don't shop around - outside could be featured better). Pops up, hiding his pom cause he's scared, ask for repairs - charges you 10% extra cause he's in a dungeon other features blocked out cause you're in a dungeon, leaves. Outside you can send him to retrieve/deposit stuff from retainer, tell your squadron to stop lazing about, etc.

I've only ever run into this problem while raiding. Never as a dungeon run. That being said, you can get yourself a lvling leve kit for the crafting jobs and just get them to 50 asap with capped leves. They even increased the exp needed to lvl up. It's literally just walking up to an NPC and trading them items for massive amounts of exp. If you can't do that well then sorry, repairing is one of the perks for lvling the crafter jobs up.

Back in 1.0, gear near the breaking point, as well as broken gear both had a debuff associated with it.
Let party members remind you if you overlooked it.

How about party members can just repair each other's things?
( For a FAIR price of course! )

Edit: For a fair price I mean repair the gear to 100% for the price that a mender NPC would.

You do get a warning message when gear hits 10%. I've only just recently learned this, as I had never let it get down that low before.
Personally, my request would be to up that threshold, or add multiple warnings, or both.
Even better, why not maybe make it a player setting, and let us decide if/when we want a durability warning. 10% really is too low, seems like most dungeons will burn through more than that on any given run.

As for NPCs, I really don't like the idea of finally accessing this restricted, highly guarded location that no trifling group of soldiers could clear out, only to find a repair shop waiting for us.

Why should I have to pay the NPC to get my gear repaired? Not everyone has time to go out and earn gil, you know!

No, I want to have a warning message when I try to enter dungeon, not that message, that usually happens in a middle of a fight, and I often don't even notice it.

That's not a fair price. Someone with all crafts at (LvCap -10) spent a lot of time/gil getting all his crafts to (LvCap -10) so that he won't drag down parties because his gear broke at an inconvenient time. People who want to take advantage of that to enable their own irresponsibility should pay much more than a repair NPC charges.

Before entering the instance a window should pop up listening the durability of the gears with a "are you sure?" check

Hm... 10,000 or higher?

We don't need NPC or allow a crafter to repair other player gear directly, what we need is:

- Out of combat repair tools.

- In combat repair tools.

- A summoneable Mammet mender.

All those three things crafted by DoH.

They need to just bring back the ability to repair other players gear only without being on the crafter class. They made it so you can add materia without changing class so I see no reason why they cant do the same for repairing others gear.

It's called leveling your crafters. Once they're all at 50, you can repair your gear anywhere (even inside instances) outside battle for mere dark matter that easily purchasable with gil.

This is one of the laziest, entitled requests I've seen on these forums and there's a WHOLE lot of them here. This is someone actively not waiting to learn from their mistakes and check their gear more often. This is LITERAL babying. Like...literally.

There's nothing entitled about this request at all. Asking for something does not make someone entitled. Demanding it does.

Let's add market boards in there while we're at it. How about summoning bells too for when I don't have space for dungeon loot?
I can't be helped to remember to clear out my inventory when I queue specifically for loot.

Not about entitled I don't think it is needed. We have a repair npc in every zone and most a few steps away from where everyone hangs out. People also have the option of having one in an apartment.

I would find it just as much of an annoyance getting to last boss and the player saying gear is broke I need to walk back to start of dungeon.

more seriously im all for the request repairs to be a thing for crafters, i mean the melds request got half shot down by meld npc's and although its never going to be 100 percent you get in a dungeon with high enugh crafters, it would be a nice addition for someone to get lauded possibly for having had thededication to level their crafters up enough to do so. Even ive foolishly walked into a dungeon with nearly busted gear before, luckily nowadays i carry the matter around because i can repair my stuff in mid dungeon, but i wouldnt mind be able to repair someone in DF who forgot to check beforehand

I can agree with that, but at the same time, doesn't that feel a bit too lazy? Gear check should just be something players ought to be in the habit of doing regardless. We all know durability is a thing, and should all know to check it once in a while. Running several dungeons without noticing is just pure neglect.

Idk. I wouldn't really object to the feature. But on some level it does feel like it would be treating players as too dumb to pay attention to that on their own.

I still think they should either remove the durability system entirely, or make it a lot more interesting than it is now. I have no idea how they'd do that, but yeah.

The easy solution to the problem in this thread is of course to just train yourself to always repair before you queue up for any duties.

I think giving crafters back the ability to repair other player's gear would be the least contentious solution. (Does anyone know the reason this was removed?)
Anyone who feels disinclined to help can simply keep quiet and let the person take their 'punishment', while the rest of us would be able to lend a hand so the group can finish the instance in a timely manner.
Maybe it's because I main dps, but punishing someone by kicking them for broken gear and then having to wait for a replacement is a waste of time I'd rather not go through. It feels like I'm being punished too, especially considering I've probably already had to wait at least 20 mins in the queue.

This would be a proper solution. Simply design it so they can request a repair, same with a meld, and we can decide whether to complete the action using our dark matter. Dont need to set prices or anything like that, repair money is pocket change. But this would prevent a run from being stopped dead due to a simple mistake.

On a side note, this is still a personal mistake. This is not SEs fault. This is yours. If your gear is broken then it is your choices that led to it. Take some responsibility. Im frankly disgusted by the amount of fingerpointing trying to get rid of personal responsibility. Grow the hell up. This is one responsibility that if, you are old enough to read/play, you are old enough to understand and control.

How do you think is going to craft all those repair tools and mammets? :O

Current system to self repair your gear is bad. As a paladin in order to repair all my gear I going to need: LTW, WVR, BSM, ARM and GSM (5 of 8 DOH). With my idea a crafter still can self repair his gear while at the same time he can sold those repair tools/mammet.

Oh, and I'm leveling all DOH/DOL.

I quite like current system but it would be even better with bit of enhancement. I have all of DoH/DoL maxed but it would be nice if I can repair for member in the same dungeon or instance. You can be a hero for that moment and you don't have to abandon the party just because you have a tank/healer/dps with broken weapon/armour.

If SE were to allow other players to repair gear, they would need to set a price and it would need to be higher than a repair NPC. Otherwise people would just intentionally not repair their gear so someone else in the dungeon could repair it for them. Even if they weren't trying to dodge the cost it would also promote an more of an assumption that "someone will be able to repair it" and would cause problems if there wasn't.

Realistically that money would have to go to the player doing the repair because although the repair items are relatively cheap, it's still a little extra hassle at having to go and top them up again faster than you would normally.

Regarding the topic itself though, personally I think that's just a lot of extra work for SE to implement it when people simply need to just learn to check their own gear and if they don't want to do that, level their crafters, it's not hard. I've got my main and first alt character to 60 on all the crafts and a second alt character is around the 40's and going up still. It's just not that difficult.

You know what? You're right! It is my fault if my gear breaks in duty, and I'm taking responsibility! It's my fault, and I should be accountable! But just for fun, let's punish everyone. Here's what happens: I'm just going to hang my head in shame and leave the duty--which I guess is what you think is fair. I'll go play cards for half an hour and then instantly requeue. Meanwhile the poor DPS might have had to abandon the duty outright. Hope they didn't wait for a replacement for too long before giving up, because they've still got a queue to sit through also. With any luck I'll still finish the duty before they do.

So yeah: totally my fault, my responsibility. Great outcome, right?

No it not, the current system is fine the way it is. Person needs the respective craft to repair the gear they want.

Nope, you are wrong, the system if bad simple as that. Needing to level almost all DoH just to repair the gear of one job is insane. But anyway, tell me, what do you have against repairs tools crafted by DOH?

It wouldn't matter. People like the OP are already complaining about the one inventory slot that dark matter would take up, so they still wouldn't buy a repair kit/mammet even if it was an option. And let's be honest, this entire issue started because some people don't care enough to keep their gear conditioned, so even if we added additional repair options, these are the exact type of players that wouldn't care enough to obtain them, then you're back at square 1.
