You make it sound like the game is divided into two camps. BlueGartr skill level and noobs. There is a middle core group as well that still progress but aren't running coil until the clear it from dawn until passing out at the table. What I believe the core of the issue is here was that in 2.0 and 2.1 the two sets of gear (Allagan and Mythology) were the same iLevel and obtainable by alternate means. Now they are not. To some, it comes across as a slap across the face that the previous method to gear up and assist in that has now been nerfed and locked out behind the second coil. No one I've encountered has asked for High-Allagan gear to be put out for Soldiery. It's the weathered Soldiery gear, the Masterworks, that people want to get to assist with the gear grind and demand for the second coil as well as any other in game things they wish to do.

People that can clear coil without it don't need it.
People that can't clear coil without it need it.

Those that aren't clearing coil have an issue so getting coil level gear "helps" make it less stressful.

This is why coil level gear being accessible only in coil needs to stop. It should be the most reliable and easy way to obtain, yes. Yet not the only way since it's what breeds elitistjerks.

Gear won't help you with mechanics and the only people bothered by elitism are jealous players who desperately want to succeed but can't. I'm extremely elitist and pretty much the worst sort of person with a very unappealing personality so I'm an expert in this subject. The only reason it was changed to this method was because Yoshi-P said he wanted to motivate more people to do coil raids. By making it a divide this time all it's done has hurt the player base at large and made the raid community feel 'super special awesome'. No more no less. It seems you also skimmed over my first comment about there being more then 2 types of players.

And what if it was intended to be this way from the start, but they decided not to since CT wasn't out yet? The thing is, it's done the way it is now in other games for a reason. You don't give people the "same" stuff for less effort. Putting it behind other difficult content is fine, but the effort needs to be roughly the same.

And honestly, as i've seen other people say, this is the only game where i've seen people complain about it being this way.

We have Coil.

the problem with that is how things were done, if myth gear was only i80 and ct was also i80 there wouldn't be as many people complaining but when you start with 1 way to get i90 (tokens) then another (coil)
then take the way to get the same ilvl gear as coil away people get mad.

it's the same with alot of 1.0 2.0 discussion they took things out of 1.0 that people liked so they get mad and say they want them back course the difference is the population the amount of people affect (in a bad way) by the 1.0 to 2.0 change, it's far less then the population of people affected (or effected? god i hate these to words) by the change in 2.2 from 2.0. (based off of 1.0 pop compared to 2.0 pop)

it how most go, if ff14 was the first FFmmo the opinions of ff14 being a bad mmo would be different because there would be no ff11mmo to compare it to. it would still be compared to say EQ or ultima online but it wouldn't have 11 to be compared too.

Sarcasm aside. But it is kind of sad how the gaming community has devolved.

Before when changes where made, people might have grumbled a bit. But they either adapted or left.

Now though, if people don't like it, they grumble and pretty much demand devs to change it to how they like it. Even though that changing it to how they want, will create a new group of people who don't like it.

I know what you mean. There's no way to please everyone so why not try to please the people who most enjoy the game the most? Instead what we have had with games these days is people who don't really even care very much about games(the kind of people who use the insult "get a life") demanding that game devs cater to them. Then what people who truly enjoy the hobby are left with is shallow, mindless, watered down junk. It's not enough that casuals get 3 new dungeons and a primal and gardening and blah blah blah. Nope. Actually, I'm a little put off by the elitism. What is the point in shoving it in people's face? Yes, I post in the progression threads, but people make a choice to visit those threads, so it's a different story. I don't walk around bragging. If people say something about my gear, then I'll respond, but other than that, it's whatever. As an example, I'm not the greatest in PvP. I'm not a fan of people who lord that over others, which is why I refuse to do it when I'm in the same position. Do I think it would be cool if the gear stood apart? Sure. With all of this said, I actually prefer those not doing Coil have good gear. Helps my daily roulette runs, FATE's, etc. go much quicker.

That's my whole point. I'm part of the group that was in top 5 of downing T9, but that doesn't make me any better than anyone else playing this game. Are there bard's better than me? Absolutely, and I'll be the first to admit it. Do I think the best gear HAS to be from Coil? That's debatable. If you want to have vanity items, mounts, etc. to display your accomplishments, then go for it. Maybe a good compromise is to have something only awarded when you down the content before it's nerfed. That way, you can still stand out, but there are paths to getting the equivalent gear.

You could just as easily say that it's a slap in the face that your casual scrub doesn't have access to the same ilevel gear you do when they pay the same monthly subscription fee.

Now I can understand arguments as far as general motivations to do specific content (and continue to do it after it's down) if you can gear up too quickly and easily outside of doing hard content. However, I think the reverse gear envy is misplaced.

Why exactly do you care if a non raider can get access to the same i90 gear? How does it diminish what you've done? You can easily tell those who myth farmed their gear because they're not wearing a single piece of allagan gear. So anyone that looks at your gear and their gear can tell the difference. Because they haven't *worked* hard enough for it? This is entertainment you pay for, not work you do in order to get paid.

Oh, every fight isn't pure mechanics. Sure, extra gear won't move you out of titan's landslide, but better gear can help in every other aspect of the fight. It won't win the fight for you, but it does lower the bar a little bit, and for some people, that's all they need.

Just a minor nitpick, and I'm sure it only adds to your point, but your group was in the first 5 claimed. There was at least one jp group that cleared a week before you on Alexander server.

There was also another one that cleared the same day as you on Bahamut. There also groups that simply stick to server progression like our own group, it's why going around parading your kill is so asinine because beyond world first you really don't know how many bigger fish are out there. Until they do stuff to make tracking kills a exact science it's hard to take global rankings seriously beyond the first, so getting a big head about it like doson here just makes feel like a parody of serious wow raiders.

I'm sure doson's posts are just an exercise in hyperbole though in response to the anti-raiding crowd; If he followed progression he would of known of your group. Raiders being privileged with gear is sort of a given with any game that put serious effort into raids, I don't understand how it is controversial here.

better gear almost always helps. as your gear improves you will find mistakes happen less and less often because tanks are harder to kill, healers top people off faster, and the boss dies faster so there is less time to make mistakes.

Exactly my point.

DPS checks phases are now less stressful.
Tanks increase in mitigation and efficient HP to the point they can even single tank the fight (Ex: Turn 5).
Healers having so much gear they can solo heal the fight.

Coil gear isn't there to help clear coil it's meant to make gear requirements more manageable and the overall management of the fights less stressful so it being accessible outside of coil is in no way a negative thing. Since those that down turn 9 aren't gonna suddenly be replaced by those that go farm the gear outside of coil to do coil. If anything they'll have competition with Turn 6-8 clears after the 1st or 2nd week since lets be honest those early turns sure do mean something when it comes to bragging rights.

Let's see:

Turn 6

Gear here won't really help you. The only thing it COULD do is decreasing the time of Phase 2 so you only have to deal with 1 round of bees instead of 2. However if you can deal with 1 round, you can do 2 as well. The damage overall in this fight is low so 200 Tank HP or 100 more HP per cure won't make or break you here. If you cant beat it now 110 gear won't solve the problem for you.

Turn 7

You could be in item level 150 Gear here and still die if your communication lacks. This fight is so far from a gear check as it could be and puts all its weight into mechanics and group coordination. If you cannot work as a team you will not pass this. 110 nor not.

Turn 8

You might say oooooh but T8 is a Gear Check! Yes it is but if you manage to get here you have the means to beat it anyways. Turn 8 is a pushover compared to the things you face before.

it will definitely help you in t6. the burn strategy is much easier than feed but it's only possible with good dps which comes directly from better gear.

even something like killing the adds faster on t7 makes the fight easier. gear always helps.

I don't know but i think if the main problem that wipes your group is the added complexity of a Limit Break 3 on a Slug then you might want to look there first before blaming the gear. :)

...What? What does LB3 have to do with gear increasing DPS in T6?

It's a universal fact. You gain better gear = your sustained DPS increases = you're able to skip certain phases or reach certain phases faster. Better gear means it's easier to meet the DPS check for the last phase instead of needing to use the slugs method, or requiring the use of Potions/food and what not.

Why does it have to be the DPS Race tactic if you don't have the gear for it? Why not just go with a different tactic that suits the gear level of the group?
Do you want to give people loot just so that they do not have to use their head and think creatively?

If you notice you do not have the DPS required for said tactic why the heck not go with a different way? That argument makes no sense.
As I said before even if you make Phase 2 shorter with more gear it will not make or break the fight for you. If you can deal with the bee one time you can deal with it a 2nd time. It just repeats. There is nothing different. So if a group can handle the first bee but not the second one, they should not look for more DPS but look at their own playstyle, to make sure they can play a phase consistently, and if not, improve there.

Let me add that I understand where you are coming from but GEAR GEAR GEAR GEAR is not the only solution to overcome challenges. There is a hell of a lot more to improve on.

You get better gear, sustained DPS goes up, suddenly it's much easier to do everything. Even do the burn strat which you could never properly do before.

Funny thing is, the burn tactic is sort of creative imo. It's a tactic that bypasses the strategy that people had laid out, that finishes the fight sooner and with less issues. XD If you try to say to 'not have to use their heads', you're 100% wrong. Our team decided to do it the regular way (LB Snail) because we found that just -something- went wrong when we were burning. We definitely have the DPS to do it the other way, but we choose the regular.

From that perspective, yeah it makes the fight easier. But if you can down it already without the said burn tactic then you missed the target audience in this thread.
The people crying here are people who cannot beat a single encounter in the new coil and think that gear will make their life easier. Gear will make the fight easier if you got a solid group, tactics and brains in place but won't do squat for people who are already lacking these things to begin with.

From that perspective, yeah it makes the fight easier. But if you can down it already without the said burn tactic then you missed the target audience in this thread.
The people crying here are people who cannot beat a single encounter in the new coil and think that gear will make their life easier. Gear will make the fight easier if you got a solid group, tactics and brains in place but won't do squat for people who are already lacking these things to begin with.

It will only make it *marginally* better. Example already mentioned above. I agree gear is no substitute for skill. But it does give more room for error.

Just like how there's Echo buff in Primals and Binding Coil, it sort of makes up for lack of better gear/skill. Imagine if you had more HP - you can now eat a Bomb in Titan EM and survive, instead of outright dying. It gives more room for error - but it does not cover all bases. It won't save you from getting Landslided (mechanics) for example, but it will help with pushing a phase or eating a bomb you did not feel you could dodge.

The thing is however, that most of the people who do Coil 2 started in 90 gear. While people who do it now already got a good amount of 100 items on them from Soldiery Stones.
That already makes it "marginally" easier for them than it was for us and yet they still are unable to beat it. The encounter gets already "marginally" easier every week with them getting more and more 100 items.
Why do we have to give up our 110 item privilege if the tome gear already fulfills this exact purpose?

I'm just trying to argue the point that jars made, which is higher DPS WILL help in T6. I'm not arguing for people who feel they don't have the mechanics or the motivation to challenge Second Coil.

This is just like Binding Coil all over again. You started Coil in full Darklight, get a few Allagan pieces, and push up your iLevel and stuff. Suddenly, people are not feeding slimes to the snakes anymore, people were doing 1 tank Caduceus, no one is bringing the Dreadnought to the corner to avoid the bugs in Phase 4, etc. This was us back in 2.0 and 2.1.

Not everyone has that privilege, you still see a lot of people getting Coil achievement for the first time nowadays.

I am actually more in the camp of supporting the Oil and Sand currently being gated behind T7, for what it's worth i100 gear is actually the 2nd best tier of gear in the game already. It's enough to go about doing anything in the game, and for raiders, it's a QoL improvement regardless when it comes to stuff like Rafflesia.

Personally I don't see i110 as a "privilege". I see it as a reward. If I clear T7 and T8 I get rewarded with more i110 gear than I should be having. I really cannot see why people are up in arms because it's 10 levels lower than Coil gear. Weathered gear is actually good as it is. The upgrade is just a nice little reward. For what it's worth, i100 also helps raiders, and for the most parts most of us would be sitting on i100 Weathered gear unless we were blessed with RNG (winning Oil/Sand against 7 other people - mostly for party finder groups, or High Allagan drops).

I really question whether people would still be up in arms if Weathered gear was set as i100, with no upgrade option.

An upgrade is an upgrade nonetheless. I didn't see this many people complaining that Allagan weapons were locked behind Twintania in 2.1, especially because it's the one path of progression for weapons.

lb3 on the slugs? who gets anywhere near the 3rd lb bar on t6? even with 2 wasps you're looking at maybe 2.5 bars. and it's not like lb one shots the boss, if you don't kill it before 10 stacks you wipe. how do you get more dps? you get better gear. with enough dps burn method is much easier than the feed method and dealing with super slug/second round of acid rain.

if gear is so irrelevant you can do fights naked, right? oh no that's not the case at all. because gear matters. it matters a lot.
