it's almost like you have to play a video game to unlock things in that video game or something
you can't pay to start on disc 3 of final fantasy 7
I don't really see an issue with these potions I mean it's gonna be needed at some point because the MSQ is very long now but I also think there should be some basic method of teaching new players.
I personally would rather have the potions unlock all the dungeons but the new player would still need to go through them at least once. This way players get to do a few boss fights that layout some basic mechanics that carry throughout the game, get to spend a little time with the class or job (each dungeon would have the appropriate skills unlocked so players can get familiar with what they do like normal) and for friends bringing people in it's not such a huge task of catching them up and can essentially be done in a few hours (even faster unsynced). Veterans who just want to level a new job quick wouldn't need to worry about any of this. I feel like it should unlock the next dungeon in the list as you complete them allowing you to skip all the story stuff between them.
- This isn't WoW. Before you hit max level there is actually a fun and great game that can be played.
- If you want to play with friends, just make sure you made your character in the right world.
- This won't extend the game's life. This will shorten it. If I can just jump to 60 and finish all the end game stuff what is there left to do? I'll unsubscribe once I've gotten everything I wanted.
- For a ton of people who have never tried an MMO before this is their first. The data that's been shown is referring to a completely different audience and culture. People in Korea and China are hyper knowledgeable MMOs and such. Not here.
- Looking at our older brother MMO World of Warcraft we can see exactly what Jumping Potions did to their NA and EU servers, their player bases etc. Killed their economy, made finding a competent group to raid endgame with hard, People getting overwhelmed by the amount of stuff and leaving.
#NoJumpPotions
Thanks OP <3
absolutely not, out of the question. You joking??? the point of a MMO is to get the story and level up your characters. You REALLY want to destroy the experience of a MMO, this is a good way to do it. I would in-fact think that think that this kind of 'jump potion' idea would detract real MMO fans.
MMO's are not just about story and levelling... good lord, this thread is giving me a headache.
This thread is saltier than a can of campbell's chicken noodle soup.
The game devs have already made up their mind on how they're going to handle this. If I like the change it will bring, I'll keep playing. If I don't, then I will find a different game to play. C'est la vie.
I personally hate the idea of a jump potions. knowing when it came to China and other regions it was just a matter of time before it came to the main game.
I play for the story mainly, I will be stopping my sub when 4.x comes out and Play for 1 month when 5.x comes up and use a jump potions repeat till no more Expansion out. It will save me money in the log run.
Final Fantasy 7 isn't an mmo, though. The whole point of an mmo is to play with others, and it's hard to do that if you need to spend 60 hours grinding in order to be able to do so.
(I get that the current expansion isn't the only thing you can do with others, but HW, for example, was advertised with having three new jobs and Ishgard and I can see why new players would be turned off if they found out they had to spend hours grinding in order to unlock jobs)
Jobs already have no actual quests or challenge involved in unlocking them. Talk to someone, they immediately want you to be their new "whatever", and you have the job. Maybe you do a quest that has an instanced battle first, but literally no class quest, job quest, or 'monsters appearing during a quest on the overworld' have anything resembling a challenge to begin with. Compare this with FFXI's job unlocks sometime. Character LimitQuote:

When World of Warcraft decided to overhaul their leveling experience everyone complained that it was the worst expansion ever because there wasn't enough to do at end game.
The more work S-E puts into reworking old content the less time and money they have to spend on brand new content.
I can see why they are doing it and personally don't see it affecting me much. I am wondering if they have noticed changes/trends with RMT on the Korean and Chinese servers since jump potions become available though.
Overall though, while i do find it irksome that people would rather do this than enjoy the MSQ, I do see the merit to this potions and what affect it will have to bringing in new players. The alternative is to just wait and see the game become a niche game like FF11. Admittedly this wouldn't be as bad as ff 11 from a practical point of view but it would be the same design flaw at its root.
Some of you in this thread miss the point of it harder than a badly-melded SCH misses Broil.
I'm guessing you and others with the same thought did not read the post very well. The jump potion isn't going to bring you to the max level. Instead, it sets you at the end of the previous expansion's level cap and story. For Heavansward, this will bypass ARR's level 50 with 2.5 all complete. Person in question still has to do all of 3.0 to 3.5. When Stormblood releases, since the level cap is 70 and begins at 4.0, the jump potion will bring the character to level 60 with 3.5 complete. So, no one is going to be able to jump potion there way through Stormsblood...
I half agree with you on this one, WoWs issue for me has always been their "Take" on how to deal with the classes xpac by xpac, namely in that every other xpac they redesign the wheel to great "hit or miss" receptions. FF 14 thankfully so far has been about xpacs being exactly that, expansions to the core game. That said you are right, the cataclysm rework overall did little to promote people to level through the old world when they had options like heirlooms and paid jump options.
I'm amazed why do people care about those potions. Those, who want to enjoy the story - will continue to do so, and those, who want to play with friends or enter the "endgame" phase now have a choice to do so faster.
A lot of people seems to speak about "story" , but you can't decide for other people.
Also, the quest chain between ARR and before you enter HV phase - is the thing that i hate the most. (not the story part of it)
There's a lot of non-important filler quests in the main storyline, which prolong time for a MSQ completion by a large margin and annoy some people too.
TL;DR
- The first part of the game is extremely boring and awful in terms of gameplay, especially with 2.5 seconds GCD.
- ^ This also applies to low-level dungeons.
- Don't decide for other people. If they want to do it (the Main Story) - they will do it, don't force a "super engaging story" on other players if they don't want to.
- Jump potions will allow for alts on other servers without transfering each time.
- World of Warcraft is fine with this and nobody cares about those potions.
- It does not give you ILVL 270 and top gear, it's just help to skip the story and SAVE A LOT OF YOUR TIME, like really, a lot of it. You can always watch cutscenes at the inn. Also gives you a basic gear, so you will not find yourself in only your pants at level 50.
- The Main story quest need to be heavily reworked, by removing all non-important trash/filler quests and increasing rewards from, actually, important quests.
- Someone mentioned that players will not be able to get known a class they are playing, worry not, level 50-60 timeframe is more than enough time to learn the class. The good part of it is that, starting from level 50 you have at least some buttons to press or rotations to do, so it's not that boring, as it is in low levels.
p.s. My personal opinion - i don't have any problems or dramas with those potions, if those will help to attract new players - that's a great thing then.
Titles and achievements won't be given though RIGHT YOSHI?? People will have to buy those separately as well RIGHT YOSHI??
Im no longer angered by the potions as I initially was but I won't agree with giving the achievements/titles that come with actually doing all the content that is about to be skipped.
I can't imagine someone appreciating the story of Stormblood without having experienced any of FFXIV's other quests. At best, it sounds like people who want instant gratification can't be assed to earn anything through playing the game. The "2.x quests are so long!" is a meme because they're already loads quicker to complete than they ever were when their respective patches went live, and if you don't think they're going to similarly expedite the Dragonsong War questline (which they've already taken steps on by separating the Warring Triad from the main scenario), you're maybe a bit shortsighted.
Yes, this will be a financially good decision. Yes, lazy people will be able to buy that instant gratification. People who want alts (for more than just RP, which you don't need to level really for at all) even though they're largely a waste of time will be able to buy those up to speed. I legitimately don't think there's as much investment in a player who paid to skip things as a player who invested their time in progressing, though.
I can understand wanting to catch up to your friends when you join the game, but these potions, in my mind, are a bad idea. If you were to jump all the way to 60, you'll have all the abilities up to that level but won't really know how to use them. Without the time spent playing a job, you don't get the knowledge of how to use them in rotations. That being said, there will be the chance of getting party members that don't know what to do as a given job in the new dungeons. In short... JUMP POTIONS BAD!
This is a point that kinda messes with me a bit actually. With Heavensward i wonder how much of the MSQ frustration came from the jobs being gated behind Ishgard access when they were lvl 30. I can see the avarage player being aware that they will have to progress through a games stories or campaigns or play modes. Still a person would assume that a lvl 30 would become available at lvl 30. Always felt that if the HW jobs had been accessible for new players to continue their "game" with said advertised jobs, it mighta eased the MSQ woes considerably. And it coulda been as simple as a lvl 30 sidequest that "sneaks" you into the city.
We already have this problem. I see tons of level 60 drgs who only use the full thrust combo. DRK's with no darkside, plds who just spam rage of halone. Hell, i had 2 bards in 1 dungeon not use any dots at all.
potions will have 0 impact on the quality of the playerbase, becuase the overall quality you get in duty finder is atrocious.
Good things come to those who wait. Well, unless you have $$$$ now. Then you can have all the good things you want.
I was tired of the "boo hoo why can't i play dakr night!!!!!!!" complaints before the expansion even came out. It's pathetic. If someone can't wrap their head around having to unlock things in a video game they probably weren't ever going to have more than a month of fun anyway.
Well what I mean is a "new job" tends to be a very big addition to an MMO in the current market style for MMOs. I know alot of ppl that were disappointment that they couldn't experience the game as DRK asap for example. These persons would then have to go and feel "rushed" to get to ishgard to experience the job that was prolly their biggest motivation for trying the game in the first place. As I said some things you can reasonably expect to be there, like clearing a games content as you are going through it, but having to wait for something as major as a job for potentially a week+ can be very disheartening.
I would personally like to see a 10 X EXP in 1-50 content and 5 x EXP in 51-60 content.
This would speed up exp and still let people get to cap Quickly. And Enjoy the content with there friends.
Also this would help all jobs vs just 1 quick jump to Expansion starting level.
I have a few jobs at 60 and a few DoW/M between 1-59. I am slowly leveling all to 60... But I enjoy leveling them but running the same content over and over gets a little old I would sooner have a 10x increase in EXP between 1-60 that way I could level 1 job very quickly or 10 jobs in the time it took someone to get 1 jobs before, yet still have time to learn how to play.
Your new. Get to the 1st dungeon your already level 25. Do that dungeon your level 30. Start leveling another class your level 17 before to long you jump in to that 2nd dungeon and come out level 23.. oo wow I get a few levels for doing a dungeon . I going to level another job it's quick EXP. Hit level 60 it's kind of slow but now I'm close to end game what job to play I got 5 at 60..
Also Negative. Not talked about...
Person pays for job jump. oo Shit I hate PLD in END GAME. I want a refund can I use it on another job. NO.
Eeer
Ok pay for another jump. oo I like WHM in End game. to bad I wasted a jump on PLD it sucks...
I picked PLD because I have Warrior and PLD at 60 and I like WAR better just a person choice.
I'm all for a jump potion a lot of my friends have quickly quit the game because some of the old content leveling or questing mostly due to getting locked behind level during the main scenario quests, BUT I think new players would find it just as upsetting having to buy the game, the expansions and then spend another 42$/40€ just to play with their friends. I would suggest that upon purchasing Stormblood a player receives both a Story Skip Potion and 1 Job Jump Potion. Obviously I understand this is bad for business so if giving new players both potions is too much to ask I would suggest that upon purchasing Stormblood a player receives AT LEAST 1 Job Jump Potion and the same goes for future expansions to make the journey a bit easier on the new players.
I hope this goes over well with players and I wish you best of luck Square Enix I will always support you no matter which way you decide to go. :)
They aren't false choices. It's simple economics. We know Square Enix has set asside approximately $36 million for Stormblood. This is intended to cover everything, be it adjustments to existing content to development of new content. The devs have openly acknowledged their quest system does not allow for simply including a means to skip the story. Therefore, it would necessitate an overhaul of their current infrastructure. You then have to account for rewrites and new animations to maintain a cohesive narrative once you have Frankenstein'd it all back together. Every adjustment to A Realm Reborn and Heavensward directly affects the aforementioned $36 million. For pure argumentative sake, let's pretend it costs them $10 million. Stormblood now only has $26 million left.
How is any of this a "false choice?" What you are advocating comes at a cost. And it will influence what content does and does not make it into 4.0. Hence we will inevitably lose new content because their time and resources were dedicated to adjustments we will never even see.
Already quit the game due to lack of worthwhile content, among other reasons.
Was consiering coming back some day.
But now with these kinds of items, I will not play again.
I have, in almost all cases, hated games with items like this.
Quality of players will decrease and, since most of the game requires cooperation with other players, quality of game will decrease.
I strongly disagree with the decision and reasons made in the post.
good for you , unfortunately i know some who did this and then think they're pro.
we have lots of newbies in newbie channel and most question asked is " where do i level fast?"
so we as the seniors pointed them out to PoTD , next thing we know they'd be grinding in poTD for hours.
do they know what they're doing?
i don't think so..
Trolls will utilize this potion as a mean to get back into the game quickly so they can attack players, gain access to restricted areas.
Currently abuses per service account are restricted so that even if a person is banned and returns at a later point they will get to 'redo' their mistakes, and they're doing it more cautiously while still using offensive behavior.
Now they don't even have to server transfer, they just make a character and the show begins. I'm okay with a story skip potion, but I don't want to see an instant Heavensward character.
I'd rather they just fix the grind and remove fetch quests from the MSQ.
A player should be able to 1-60 on *just* the main story. And make the experience for dungeons enough to unlock the next dungeon.
I.E. Totorak should take you from 24 to 28 for Haukke Manor, and Haukke Manor should give enough experience to 32.
