Sticks and stones, Sera. Have a good holiday!
Your milage will vary. Out of the 2 weeks I subbed just for 3.3, I queue with a friend and I/we've had
-A BLM that doesn't use fire III or blizzard III to switch, he'd always wait on transpose.
-A PLD that can't combo and loses aggro
-A DRK that doesn't use dorkside and constantly loses aggro
-A DRG that only spams phlebotomize
-Countless people who consistently die to telegraphed aoes on Nidhogg Normal (and I mean the horrid roars and hottails, not the divebombs).'
Especially the latter is what gets me the most, because this is all happening at level 60 in EX dungeons (which require you to have at least i200, so you've spent some amount of time at level 60 even if you are a fresh cap). Telegraphed AoEs is not a new concept, you should be dodging them to begin with. "I'm new to a fight" does not mean you're new to the game.
Some people are just not very good at these games. A buddy of mine had his girlfriend play with him and she was not good at all. Granted. He did little to train her. He just had her follow him and tunnel vision the game. I'm sure she's been bullied for it.
I'm sure you bully people too matty, after all, you bullied me. Hurts my feelings too. Not only that, calling me words and say things I never would call you makes me super sad.
Also did 1 hour nidhogg normal mode ques as sch, i derped on purposes sometimes to see if they actually noticed or not, then I also let the other healer do more heal alone, sometimes I wouldn't even dps at all, sometimes I would, etc etc.
https://www.twitch.tv/ancitius/v/76000507 you guys can see for yourself how great players are.
There's a difference at being not good and not willing to be better. You choosing to not DPS and not choosing to learn to DPS whilst healing are completely different matters.
People willing to learn rotations and spend time learning their rotations despite being bad is way more productive than just simply being a negative factor in duties. You can tell these people apart very easily and our communities (NA VS Japan) is very apparent in juxtaposed demeanor in respect to their skill level.
Pulling their weight...that means a lalafell doesn't have to do as much as other classes as they're the lightest.
Damn I rolled wrong race.
Mihael, me not wanting to DPS while I heal is my choice to make. I feel that I do just fine. There is a difference between being plain bad and choosing not to perform out of the scope of your role. If i just danced and let people die, that's one thing. Also, I read so much garbage "advice" on here. Those same people condescend if you don't agree.
DE-Roxas, thast a bad comparison. A Smn who only uses Ruin would be like a healer who only uses Cure/Physick/Benefic and nothing else. That's not playing out of the scope of your job.
Our choices are what defines us and that defines you as a player who is absolutely not even trying to attempt to pull their weight. The scope of your role is not just to sit and heal, I don't even know what you do in the down time between heals.
I just hope you're stuck with other people who are wanting to play the game with the same attitude as yours and not with others who are trying to perform their optimal.
What do I care about definition? Are you referring to how random people on the Internet will think of me? If you care about that, you need to rethink your priorities. I'm playing a video game and having fun.
Yes, the scope of a healer is to keep the group alive. You're always welcome to toss in some DPS and I'm sure no one will complain but it is not required. Many feel the same. People can offer advice on how to optimize their role but flat-out telling people how to play is asinine, especially when I see so much bad advice going around.
I still think it's not a good comparison. I don't know anyone nor have I ever seen anyone do what you described. That's quite a stretch.
I have seen many Drks who do not use Darkside. I always do because I love Dark Arts. Some people are just not as good as you may be. No reason to get upset about it. When I play Ast, I still don't DPS and I keep everyone alive and always on top of cards. Unfortunately for Mihael, SE said they do not design content around healer DPS. Each person has their own play style. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have to follow suit.
They can be two different things and they can be the same. Some don't use them because they don't understand them. Some tooltips are not good. Playing Ast, Royal Road is a fine example. There are skills I didn't use when I started because I didn't see how they were useful to me. There are skills that I still don't use because I've tried and found to really change nothing. On my Sch, I've read people thanking Jeebus for Dissipation while I've only used it twice. First time was to see it in action, other was by accident. Never needed it. I love Abyssal Drain and I know people who never use it.
At some point I think there is a fine line between expecting others to pull their own weight, and being a self proclaimed weight puller who just betches and whines at a candy store that they can't get all that they want from whoevers with them there
in a lvling or raid environment there is a minimum medium and maximum that pple can do. Aside from raids where I agree that 100% is expected, I'd say 70-90% effort is around the medium for non raids. If your at a point where you are complaing a lot that the medium effort in non raid environment is not enough, you shouldn't be using the public DF. Same concept as making your own endgame LS/FC, you filter out people so that they are within your expectations, not expect the whole region to adhere to your expectations
If you're not using dark side, you won't have the extra damage or access to dark arts. It ultimately leads to them losing aggro when I'm playing my job of DPS normally and not having access to part of their mitigation. Especially if they have the galls to tell me to stop pulling aggro, that's my trigger for a vote kick espesically if they're intentionally not using darkside to improve their tank performance.
Likewise for ninjas who don't want to use poisons for whatever reason. There's simply no reason to not to other than to under perform your role (which you are in the party for)
He never apologized, but instead responded in a rather negative tone that it seemed like seraphix was offended, and justifiably so considering that mattelot called him out by name and quotes, while at the same time still putting words into his mouth.
http://puu.sh/pP095/a20178f2a8.png
At best, he might've not have intended his message to be directed to Seraph, but he's certainly not taking it back.
Sounded like a form of apology to me.
This has always been a silly argument, IMO. You're not going only as a role but also as your class. If you weren't meant to DPS when the opportunity was available, why do WHM's have Stone, Aero and Holy? Why do SCH's have DoTs for days? Malefic and Gravity for AST? They'r tools in your kit that you talk about. I'm a support role, you don't see me tossing up mana turret and going afk. It really just boils down to you proclaiming your desire to not improve, which is worse than a standalone bad player because at least one day they might get better.
First of all, where is the apology?
I can't see any. Second, replying to me in that way doesn't make it even close to an apology, he just came off as aggresive after he made up things I was saying, but I never did? Again where is my apology? Third, I still can't see it.
Yeah 1 more thing..He can argue or discuss all he want's with me, I'm fine if he has different opinions, but look at what he wrote. He suddenly is bringing up thingsI never said or never would say to him.
And how is my reply to him like an asshole thing? First of all, he talks like he knows me, second of all he puts words in my mouth and the very last thing the way he replied wasn't even close to an apology, just a way to get away and admiting he was wrong. But yeah.
Wait have I been playing my MCH wrong this whole time and using my damaging skills in groups? I play it to be the mana battery support.
"When you've healed all there is to heal, there may be time to weave in some offensive magics." - Hall of the Novice
So there went that theory, even the most basic healer training promotes it.
If we saw the class trainer saying these things or for example during a class quest:
* The player needs to heal his npc comrades, then the comrades HP is full, this is when one of the NPC (class trainer) shouts: "WoL character X has full health, we should attack now while character X has full health." Then the class trainer tells the player that: " while healing is the main job of the healer, doing damage will also help prevent monsters from doing damage to your group, because the faster monsters die, the less damage your group gets, the less you need to heal". Repeat those type of scenario in few class quests and every player should get a good idea of what is expected of the healer. They could even make it so that a player is not able to do a certain class quest, untill they unlock Cleric Stance.
Unless you do Novice Hall (which something most vetern wont do) you will only hear the whole: healers need to do dps aswell, only from other players. It does not help that pre-60 dungeon mobs die fast, which only encourages healers to only heal. I always try to dps when I can, but while leveling, I have never done any damage as a healer. Its not that I do not want to do any damage, its just that the mobs die soo fast, its pointless for me to go in Cleric Stance and out.
WHM:
Regen, since it creates so much aggro, you'll be offensive for the whole run.
Medica II before pull, some people love to live dangerous :D
SS on pull, again you'll be offensive enough, especially when you end up with those "standard" tanks that can't hold hate for the life of them.
SCH:
Eos on sic, do I need to say something else?
Adlo/SS on pull
AST:
No idea, never leveled that class and probably won't level it in the future.
Some people think that's their offensive magics, and no matter what you tell them, that's all they gonna do. Obviously I made this post because it's funny when you think about that. There are people out there, that really believe in that kind of play style. Not gonna judge, it can be funny at times.
It is an avoidance, you're right. But it's a solution still, Because it exists and the end result is the same. If you know there's an 30 minute delay due to construction at an intersection, I wouldn't suggest to someone "Just deal with it" I'd tell them to take a different road ya know?
Now here's the problem, You can't make anyone DO anything. You can only incentivize. Instead of wanting to punish them and possibly marginalize them, I want to help encourage them to get better, even if it's trickery in how I'm perceiving to do it. Video games teach us a lot of things inherently through game design, whether you'd like to believe it or not. DF is an anonymous way to do a lot of things in the game normally in the past and irl you would never be able to get away with. And yes, I'm 100% sure people abuse that. But for the sake of the good ones out there who are genuinely not abusing the system (and we can't separate them from the actual baddies), we can't punish them in a way which would make them hostile towards the game.
I'd be upset if I was rated down because I DPS on Sch. The list of problems that could punish people who are really actually trying to improve are extensive. Some people just don't agree with some play-styles, It's evident here even. and You know what? That's fine, i'm not going to argue with you about it. But we will never have the information available to make that call. I don't think Duty Finder is bad. I think It's just -some- people. Some people just don't have common courtesy. Because Like I said, I just wanna have fun pressing buttons with people. But if you're not pressing buttons. I can't hold a gun to your head. I can only suggest that it's fun to press buttons and because you press buttons, You might get a feelgood commendation from the others in your group allowing you to get cool shit few people might have.
well if we start to bring real life reasons in here , ill give you a good example how someone looks from a different point of view if hes playing at 120% XD
lets say ur at the highway and u drive with 120% of the allowed , now u meat up someone whos at 80% of the allowed but u cant pass him coz theres only one lane , and u need to share the road :P
now the guy whos at 120% starts raging at the one that is driving with 80% making all kind of weird reasons why the other one should drive faster :P
Now the guy at 120% thinks hes in the total right to pick up to other guys rear and wave all kinds of curses with his hand :P hes so blinded from his arrogance coz hes driving like for ages now , that he dosnt notice that
the guy at 80% simply dosnt want to drive that fast and enjoy the scenery or whatever :P also the 120% guy forgot about manners and to let a bit of space to the front dude safety distance it was called :P
well i could go on like this more :P
so the road is there to be shared by all, u dont own it, consideration goes in both ways :P if u cant pass then tone ur voice down :p it just makes u look like a total jerk from the outside :P
edit : spelling XD
Either way its been fought for ages and I am sure even other games deal with the whole "Just cus your a healer doesn't mean you can't help attack". If the pulls are manageable and I still see the healer sitting there doing nothing, I don't even get mad anymore. I just sigh and look to the DPS to see who will get my commendation.
If you'd rather take it easy and look around, why not take the bus?
Driving less than the posted speed limit and not having your focus on the road is both reckless and dangerous.
People like to solo sometimes, so they're gonna need damage abilities. Also, I don't see you doing anything. Never played with you. If that's how you played, nobody has the right to tell you otherwise. You may think my play style is worse than whatever you want. There are tons of people who feel the same. It's not your duty to change our minds. You sure as heck are not changing mine.
Oh you are mistaken, I have no issue with people who intentionally gimp themself and admit that its stemmed from laziness. I have issue with people who intentionally gimp themself in the name of playstyle when it's just laziness. Plus, people do have the right to tell you how to play, it's also your right to not listen. It's also tough to defend a "better" way of playing in your case even in the most subjective case, one option is keeping the team alive and contributing to damage, the other is keeping the team alive.
"Well I just won't use a third of my kit, it's my choice and my playstyle.", people who do this are lazy and that's A-ok!
This isn't a MOBA or anything, there isn't really much for -off meta- playstyles, we don't have many options with unique gear options or stats. If we had those, maybe truly different play styles would exist... but they don't here. We're left with ZDPS Healers and Ice Mages which in the most bastardized sense are unique play styles and really pushing the term.
One of my friends just ran into the very same tank I did on their expert, and they did the same thing to them. Friend posted screenies (un-cencered) on tumblr and a lot of people came forward stating they had the same kind of run in with the tank. Many reports were made but nothing has been done, the tanks still going. Now my friends thinking of unsubbing for good.

(edit to include 2nd screeny)
So just returning to the game and doing the MSQ is 'refusing to gear up'. (and yes they were reported by all in the party I'm told)
This is why I lved a tank class, to let players ENJOY THE GAME. New? Want to see the Cutscenes? GO RIGHT AHEAD! I'll stop and go over the boss's. Under geared? I'll do smaller pulls. Why ruin the game for people? The end isn't going anywhere. Gona rush just to afk in game anyway?
And we need more of a reason why people shouldn't be able to Rate people? This didn't even happen to me and I want to un-subscribe... Some people are so disgusting...
I've recently come back to the game myself, I only have 200,210 gear and like... a few 230's. So he/she might as well have been saying that to me.
This persons ISP should revoke there Right to have contact with people on the net until they learn basic human interaction and how to treat people.
Heres the rest of that convo for you.
http://imagizer.imageshack.com/img921/6140/o6qXmm.png
and them saying to gear using midas, my friend was also doing that. The issue is now that midas is free to roll, one person can get lucky and win all the drops. Before it was a 50/50 per run a week to get an item with 4 items dropping, with people passing on items they didn't want to not waste their weekly. Now it's 1 in 8 x 4 items for every run. I spammed midas myself for my 218 ninja for bolts as acc's are what I need. By the time I got one I had enough Lore for two, and I'm STILL 3 of 4 springs to getting pants sense Midas first came out. (not that I need it anymore for my main class's, but saving for an alt class anyho)
Well as the community we can't tolerate this! We have to demand swift removal of the in-game chat to prevent any future issues because of this one and only guy! /end of sarcasm
This should be easily fixed with the report harassment option. If this guy hasn't been banned yet it shows certain problems in a different department.
These screenshots were posted on tumblr with out the names hidden. Over 130 (edit 227 posts now and more people coming forward with their own stories) people liked, re-posted and commented (and the numbers still growing). A good number of them also stated they ran into the tank as well and they did the same thing and were reported.

One such person's recent encounter.
http://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/2776/LNi1Vs.png
and yet another. and theres many more.
They can also be found on the forums bragging and harassing people. They make remarks how they don't care if there reported because SE wont do anything, and how there just in their remarks because anyone not in high ILV gear should not be running the runs that are there TO get said high lv gear and said people are just wasting their time wanting to be carried.
This thread's argument... is completely pointless.
I assume the OP raids and has a good raid static. Good on them. Why bother trying to instruct the people just getting by barely slogging through the farm content? By farm content I don't mean like, "oh it's so easy, I got such and such on farm now!" I mean, literal farm, like with a plow and a hoe because people are going and plucking carrots and cabbages here and you are talking about being a sniper with over 500 confirmed kills.
Even without Mr. Spec Ops professional mercenary here, they are going to farm their carrots and cabbages just fine and I'm sure you farm your savage content fine without them... Leave farmer Joe alone please. Sure he might go and accidentally kill himself while trying to pick carrots and you might know over 30 ways to kill a man with nothing but a carrot but both of you, when not around each other, manage to do both your jobs just fine. Farmer Joe might get 50x more carrot yield if you supply him with your chemical warfare tips for killing pesky insects that might be infesting his crops (that you normally use on enemy soldiers) but he eats just fine on 2-3 carrots a day without you. He's just going to get pissed at you for messing up his day and calling him out for being bad because he's happy with just 2-3 carrots.
Farmer Joe doesn't need help and he doesn't want help. Stop going to farms if the farmers there annoy you. Most of the people on this world have to be a farmer and few actually try do be anything more. I really wish there was more call and desire for people to be more for sure but I know few actually leave their farms so why do they need to learn to do more than be farmers.... You left the farm at 15 and went to be a solider in the army... Great! It's a noble profession to be sure. Believe me I wish there were more people that leave the farms so I could have more people to do stuff with too but... I can't force the world to change. I can only change myself.
The problem with this analogy is Farmer Joe is being placed in an area with Mr Spec Ops trying to achieve the same objective. Mr Spec Ops has put in hours of work and is carrying the team with 2 unknowns whilst Farmer Joe is being a lazy pig without any incentive to help the group.
People are advocating to be Farmer Joe's when they should be attempting to be like Mr Spec Ops.
Your analogy also breaks with Mr Spec Ops needing something that Farmer Joe needs for his Spec Op activities. Farmer Joe doesn't need X for his savage content, farmer Joe uses X for god knows why, Joe doesn't even DPS in dungeons. Mr Spec Ops has to run through multiple instances with multiple Farmer Joes daily just to continue being Mr Spec Ops.
Pulling back the focus a bit, I'm a bit bewildered, because these bad experiences in DF aren't what I'd personally call "frequent" in my experience, and I've been playing steadily since 2.0 rolled out. Yeah, you get some poor attitudes, some clearly inexperienced players, and sometimes even a bit of overlap between the two, but they're the exception rather than the rule. Most people just want to get stuff done; not necessarily in the most efficient conceivable way, but the goal is the same.
So at this point, all that really should be said is: If these people complaining are really having frequent problems in the Duty Finder, the most common factor can be observed in the nearest mirror.
Attitude is everything. Improve yours, and I guarantee you'll have a better time on the whole.
