It's okay if you don't like it. That's your opinion and we respect that. But you can't say it's trailer when it's an opener and vice versa. If I had made a trailer when the studio wanted an opener or vice versa, I'd be (virtually) blackbarred from the industry. This is an opening movie, not a trailer. It doesn't pass for a trailer any more than kite passes for a plane.

Lighting. I know, you have already "countered" that, but not really, it's lighting.

I can tell, because I'm also looking at the part of his hair that isn't affected by the red-orangish glow of the torches in the temple, and it looks a darkish grayish silver thanks to the shadows. So yeah, his hair is still silver. XD

After the End of Era flash/Gigaflare, the very first part of the new intro reminded me a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics.

let me rephrase, meaning sometimes gets lost in text.
i know its an opener, however to me it doesnt feel like one. It feels like a trailer because of the way its cut, thats all.

Lots of FF games have characters riding into the sunset on chocobos (although I guess FFT was the first to do it in CG).

As for Hildebrand, uh, I don't know what version of the trailer you're watching but 6:48 shows Odin on Sleipnir for me - and I've watched both the UK and US versions (the only difference is the rating at the start). I even looked carefully throughout the entire trailer and couldn't find that bumbling buffoon anywhere (shame he isn't there though - you got my hopes up for a second!).

Unless he's hidden somewhere in the background of the scene with Y'shtola in Limsa Lominsa.

The first vid is more like a trailer and the second vid is the opener.
i feel that the FFXIV opener is more like the first FFXII vid as it doesnt set up the story of the game.
i have never argued semantics or technicality which is why i said your post was akin to a straw man.

My point is, the cutting has nothing to do with it feeling, looking, passing, like a trailer. A trailer, like you said before needs narrative, summary, explanation and is usually, on average, 50~100% longer than a teaser (and usually takes longer and cost more to make), as I pointed out in post 189 on page 19 with the avenger trailer and teaser. Maybe what you mean is that it's not as fast pace as you would have liked it? Or as exciting? Maybe the pacing isn't as exciting or as fast or awe-inspiring as you would have liked it? (which is completely understandable. Adding the epilogue of 1.0 does drag the opening movie a bit. On the other hand, they needed to bring people back who aren't as up to speed as we are. There really was no perfect solution to that.) Because, often, trailers are a lot slower paced in general compared to the teaser (which is suppose to be "in-your-face" and fast paced.).

Sorry you're right, it's just my own personal opinion that I want to believe Hildebrand became the Dark Rider similar to Luzaf in XI. I don't think he could of survived Dalamud any other way but I don't have proof to support this, he can still be his goofy self when not in Dark Rider form. My only other theory is that Odin is another "van" with the Empire since they all do have similarities.

Hildibrand is a comic relief character, and as such isn't exactly canon compared to say..the Circle or Cid. So anything can go with him. He coulda been spit down by Dalamud, landed in a tree and somehow survived, and said he did a splendid job staying Bahamut.

I just applied to the beta test and it went thru but im Legacy member so is this application only for PS3? :o im confused cuz it says players who are legacy do not need to apply. I'm guessing this is for PS3 and for non legacy members?

It's possible SE decided to suddenly change Thancred's hair color, but considering everything in his scene is heavily brown it's more likely it's the lighting. It certainly does look brown so we'll all just have to wait for other pics to see.

Also, why are people saying the Miqo'te changed her chest? It looks the same to me...? I think we just didn't get a very good look at em before.

Re: chocobo claw - that's right, there was a brief shot the FFT opening where Gafgarion and his flunkies chocobos splash in a puddle, but it wasn't at the start of the scene like the new 2.0 trailer. I don't remember it being like that in any event in the remade opening for the PSP remake.

As for Odin, haha, that's an interesting theory! Somehow I don't see the Agent of Inquiry turning into an evil roaming Elder Primal (which Odin is apparently) easily. Instead he's probably spent the past five years with Nashu trying to infiltrate Imperial encampments by masquerading (not too successfully) as Garlean guards, and promptly keep getting themselves beaten up as a result. :p

Perhaps his hair was meant to be darker, but the previous engine didn't display it right? Either way, he's still HAWTNESS

the new opening/trailer whatever was just to show off new stuff that's coming in ARR. They dont need to go into any details. Showing off Odin, Behemoth, new area is good promo i guess.

Personally i thought the vid was a bit meh. End of an Era is ofc still epic, but the new stuff wasn't really anything exciting, except Odin.

Which, yes, is technically arguing the semantics of where teasing should go, in a trailer or an opener. In which I replied that this is an "opening movie", in which, yes, teasing does belong.

And if I was to put a fallacy on your posts, it'd be "Moving the goal posts". But I really tried to refrain from that using that term because I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt.

I think what we can agree on is:
a) the opening movie isn't to your taste. (and that's fine)
b) probably it wasn't as awe-inspiring or fast-paced (or both).
c) this is an opening movie, not a trailer.

The only point I wanted to emphasize is, this is an opening movie. This isn't a trailer by any stretch of the definition. Some people may mistakenly call it a trailer because they don't know the technical definition of one (just like how some people call IE a search engine or their desktop the "home page"), but it's an opening movie. And because this is an opening movie, teasing does belong in here.

Another thing I noticed, the AF armor and weapons seem to be either very dirty, or they've lost their power. Just look at the Mage's staff and how dirty they are. It's probably just dirt, but I thought it was interesting.
