Okay. I'm just curious; IF they only introduce 1,536 apartments per server to start, how do you think they'll implement it, given that we already know the buildings are built into the ward maps?

We'll use the Mist as an example. I imagine the apartment building in which all 512 Mist apartments are located can be entered from any of it's various exteriors placed in each division of the Mist. But when exiting the apartment building you will choose which division you wish to go to, exactly like you do if you were to go to the Mist front gate from Lower La Noscea.
Admittedly I didn't consider that, but it still doesn't lend itself to a consistent and user-friendly experience, which is just one of many reasons to expect the buildings to be instanced just like everything else in the wards has always been. They have no reason to err so much on the side of caution now - not for the backlash it would (unfortunately) result in, and it's simply logical to assume that they'll re-use private chamber infrastructure anyway. We have next to no reason to believe they'll do otherwise.
I agree. We'll have to wait and see. As it stand with no actual confirmation on just how many apartments will in fact be added, those who will feel the need to complain that 1,536 isn't enough be that the number we're getting are definitely complaining prematurely at the least. People are jumping the gun. Let's at least see what's actually happening before we decide to complain right? xD
I believe the green/red names mean that plot is either open for visitors, or closed for visitors.
Yeah, it's technically possible for the apartments in each ward to pull up the same list of 512 rooms to visit.
I still hope for more...
more like you see one person with 5 or more homes not including the fc house they might have all because SE doesnt just make a limit of say 2 houses on one server per account and since it's a smaller server the prices are far greater then what you pay on say balmung a smaller server last i saw a small plot just buying it off the player costed about 20 to 30 mil and thats just for the small plot before actually buying it for yourself to own
This is a late reply, but just to confirm: the apartments are per ward (including subdivisions) and not one per country. This is confirmed by Yoshida during the recent Letter from the Producer at around 2:09:20 in the Twitch stream, and is also mentioned on the 4gamer summary of the stream which states:
このアパルトメントは,3国の冒険者居住区の各区画に1棟ずつ建ち,部屋の代金は50万ギルになるという。
The Japanese ff14wiki also clarifies:
ハウジングエリアの区画1つにつき、一棟。拡張エリアにも立つ。1棟あたり512戸。 12区+拡張エリア=24区。24区×三国=72区。72×512戸=1ワールドあたり36,864戸ということになる。
Yoshida also mentioned on the live stream that, if it wasn't enough, they could still add more (but I tend to think this will be enough for all but the absolute busiest of servers, at least for now).
There's that and on top of that, doing things very much out of order and making too many mistakes. Apartments really should have came directly after FC housing. THEN FC rooms. Single player housing mixed in with FC housing really should have never been a thing either especially since the system allows multiple characters on one account to own multiple houses instead of having one house account shared. That's my biggest concern with apartments if they did or did not learn from that mistake given that apartment space will also be limited.
I'm fine with people having houses, but when the developers lock content behind houses that most people can't get into because people are buying them up just to resell them that's where I draw the line. That means I'm not getting my full experience of the game. I would love to build an airship for my FC, but I cant no houses available. I would love to grow my own garden so I can craft some of those minions that are only available to house owners. I would love to craft furniture and decorate a house. I would love to go on explorations with my airship, but I cant. So why lock content behind a limited resource?
I pay money for this game I should have access to everything in this game as long as I work for it. Things that I choose not to do like savage is my choice and the blame falls on me for not having the top weapon. When they limit the houses to a few and lock content behind it means I'm only getting 90% of the game while others get 100% because they where fortunate enough to buy a house during the rush. I cant work for house content because the Dev's fail to provide enough houses.
Can I pay SE more money to have a house reserved or should SE cut the cost of my sub because they cant provide me the full experience of the game?
Wow nice information. :D Finally my skeptic side did not win in this one. Now we only need to know if we can buy apartments even if we already have houses or if not.
Since there are so many apartments it would be nice to get one as another room since my small house is already at its limit X_X. But even if its possible to buy more than one apartment or even just one I will still wait some days, so that people that don't have house will surely get one.
Or would it still be bad? :( Don't want to take them away from someone that needs one but at the same time with such a high number, it should be enough?
Honestly there just needs to be rules in place in regards to housing. 1 personal house PER ACCOUNT, PER SERVER. Make access to the house account wide. (For all those "but my alt" people). This will free up some housing while also getting rid of the real estate agents we have that go around selling them.
FC houses dont count for obvious reasons.
As far as server population goes. SE needs to offer free transfers OFF the highest population servers. (and only those) for a few months. This will direct the flow a bit more to other servers. Also at the same time restrict transferring to those same high pop servers.
IMO these problems are easily fixable. Give people (read accounts) 30 days to get their crap out of their alt housing and after that 30 day mark boom, plots are open.
Someone might want to be a business tycoon? Were supply not so limited, and it was easily doable on one character, I'd be incline to buy additional small houses to turn them into "shops"... As it is, I have a Free Company "guild" house, a private "office" room, and a personal "home" house... Can't go buy an extra small house to convert it into a restaurant, with a café theme and retainers selling decent food outside... Can't make a weapon shop with the same idea, mostly because there is like zero furniture that facilitate that, but you get the idea...
Hope they finally fix supply with apartments... I'd like it if they could finally start work on giving us more item space to work with, and generally just improving features... Having a "Like" system would be nice, just so we can easily find well furnished open rooms, might bring people into the housing areas more to look around... Going back to the whole business tycoon idea though... I'd really like it if we could effectively have a pay to enter system, or pay for privileges... So you can make a café, and people can pay X amount and you get access to use things like the food furniture... Could let players make things like the old school Inns, play 3,000G and you can log out in this bed for bonus rested EXP! Features like that could make Housing really interesting, IMO...
It didn't support sharing estates either, until it did... My point was it's something they could work on, to make housing in general more interesting... For the longest time though, they've been fighting a losing battle to meet demand... Hopefully apartments can fix that and they can instead start work on adding more interesting features that everyone can enjoy...
Give us retainers indoors, and I'd be very tempted to turn my apartment (assuming I even get one) into a café... Open access to everyone, have my retainer selling food, Orchestrion playing appropriate music (T9 theme?), greeting message advertising the fact it's a café... Done... All I'd need is for them to rework the way placed retainers and the market board function slightly, and people might even stop by to purchase items... Been a long time since I've made that suggestion though, not sure I remember the ins and outs of how I'd replicate the old market wards... The idea basically amounted to people getting a discount if they bought directly from your retainer, while you get no market board tax deduction, with the market board indicating where your retainer is stationed, if they are at all... Assuming there is a market board in the lobby area, that could work quite nicely... Biggest issue was always that housing was for the few, but apartments could reverse that...
As a player with an alt, having 1 house per account that is shared with each character just makes more sense (I mean you can already share with people on your friends list, why not characters on the same account?). I'm on a small server, I can easily earn the gil to buy another house for that alt if I wanted to (there are open plots still on Coeurl last I checked). I don't want to though. It's pointless for me to own two, and it's better and more fair for someone else to get that plot rather than have 1 account with multiple characters owning personal houses/plots.
I actually wish the apartments were more like the mog houses in FFXI. Entirely instanced, and EVERY character had one. But the limited amount of plots we have for housing and limited amount of apartments does not help anyone on large servers.
I heard that the announcement may have been poorly translated and it was one apartment block per WARD instead of just per housing area.
Anyone else hear this?
there is a post or two in this topic saying that I think. to behonest it mmakes sense. the appartment blocks appear to be a special case free company house template that includes the same 512 chamber limit as FC personal chambers with a single location (similar to a large mansion) serving as the lobby. I suspect they have created what amount to 'ghost' free companies that exist purely to allow players to obtain an appartment. Given that they cost 500,000 gil, they will need to be larger than personal chambers.
But if you compare the functionality of the apartments to that of a Large FC mansion with the 512 member limit, the new apartment blocks function in exactly the sameway, which suggests that they are re-using part of the FC housing system to make this happen.

"Apartment-style housing will be added. These apartments will have a shared lobby and chocobo stables, which can be accessed by all tenants. Each ward will have one apartment, and it will cost 500,000 gil for a room."
That should settle this discussion. Each ward will get an apartment building. There will be plenty of apartments going around.
I think the only server that won't have enough apartments will be Balmung unless there is one in every subdivision as well. If not that is a little over 18k apartments, if the do that is nearly 37k apartments. If the former than its a bit under the current speculated population of Balmung and would only be enough if you can only have an apartment or a house on a character. If the latter than hell, not even going to bother staying up for patch launch.
The buildings exist in subdivisions. They will be there as well.
I'm wondering where apartment owners will teleport to. My FC house is just to the right of where the entrance for the one in Mist appears to be. Will they tele to the entrance or to the lobby? I'm indifferent to it, just a simple curious thought about how many players I'm going to see wandering past the house that I can wave to.
I just hope they are larger than the FC rooms, I feel my FC room is more of a storage closet.
