While I agree that Monk AoE DPS is really high the Summoner in question must have severaly underperformed to be beaten by Monk AoE because right now SMN AoE is god tier.

Your numbers are a little off on most of your potency + buff %. After redoing everything , the TK opener is actually much closer to the standard opener (within 430 pot) Now you might say that is still a big deficiency but you also didn't reapply demo toward the end as its going to wear before you can reapply it on the next rotation. You also don't have ToD anywhere on the TK opener.
Having potency per second isnt really a good way to measure your chart when you have full ticked Dots that shouldn't be, ToD should only have 2 tics running, and none for demo as it doesn't start ticking til after the animation which is about when the next gcd is coming up. Again if you make this chart more accurate youll see the TK opener is on par more than the chart leads to believe.
I still favor the standard opener though
What's the GCD now at 180+?
with GL3 2.05 or around that number, without 2.40 once more around that number. do bear in mind this is a very loose approximation
Can someone please help me with Monk I'm upset that I can't get extremely high dps with my monk which is my only 60. I'd love to be an animal with Monk but so far I'm a failure. I looked at all the rotations and so forth and couldn't perform them with a controller so I moved to kb+M today I'm struggling to find out where I shouldposition my fingers on the keyboard due to the lack of space if you put one hand on the numbers and one hand on the Wasd keys. Please inform me on how you position your fingers and how you remember rotations and lastly doing these rotations constantly do they get easier to remember? Also if you want a video then reply to this post and ask for it. I'll upload it to YouTube with a link thank you very much.
Group your skills how you like and just practice. Eventually muscle memory will do the rest. And space shouldn't be an issue if you enable more hotbars and assign them binds like alt+1.
I got similar when I was just over 600 SS. I want to say it was about 620. I had an assorted mix of dungeon and law gear at the time, maybe food too. I can't remember the particulars.
So where do you position your hands then left on WASD and where do you put your right?
Monknoob1217 I have big hands so what I do might be uncomfortable for you. I rest my pinky on ctrl, ring on A, middle on W/S, index on D and thumb on spacebar.
As for my right hand, it's on my mouse 100% of the time. I am almost always holding down right mouse button to keep my camera in an optimal spot, and I can quickly click left mouse button to move around if I need to let go of WASD for a few seconds to hit a bit harder hotkey.
123 and Shift+123 are my main 6 attacks. 1 DK 2 Twin 3 Snap Shift+1 Boot Shift+2 True Shift+3 Demo. I put Stance Change on 4 and ToD on 5 and utilize all the buttons around WASD (QERTZXCVFG and `(to the left of 1) along with shift/ctrl modifiers for those buttons, since my hands are so big I can't use alt all that well so I limit my self to Alt+123QEZ and Alt+Spacebar only)
When it comes to the question of does it get easier to do the combos? Absolutely. I remember first getting my monk to 50 and I could barely even do the basic opo opo -> raptor -> coerul combo without messing up, 2 years later or so I can do it with complete muscle memory while talkin to others on mumble or on the phone with friends. Learning to Keep everything going at GL3 speeds and remembering to do out of combat stuff such as form switching and charging chakras will take a long time to get comfortable with, but it will happen over time. Practice is the only way.
So is shoulder tackle now always used when it's off cooldown? I used to always save it as a gap closer. Thanks! Also are we now added fracture into our rotation or it's still only when we can with our TP.
Have there been any investigations into the DET/SS changes in 3.0? I'm not sure whether to go Fried Okeanis for SS/DET, or Morel Salad for DET/SS or Cock'n'balls for SS/CRIT.
If nobody beats me to it, I'll work on that once I've leveled monk.
That's months away though.
Dervy have calculated the stat weights for DRG:
WD: 8.688
STR: 1
DET: 0.127
CRT: 0.141
SS: 0.096
Now... I don't know how much difference there are between MNK and DRG now, but I really doubt SS is something you want to get. DET and Crit are probably pretty close to each other.
So out of the foods you posted, Morel Salad with it's DET/SS would be the best probably.
I'd imagine crit would be our best stat considering we have a guaranteed crit, and the crit stat now adds damage to our crits. I have no math to back this up, but it's what makes sense in my mind lol
its not quite as simple as that, that crit damage will have to counterbalance the loss of crit chance affecting the damage as a result of the auto crit, as well as the make up for the reduced effectiveness (diminishing returns type effect) on crit chance under the effect on internal release
Anyone think a new thread is due? The thread starter hasn't been here in ages.
There are new BLM and DRG threads for the same reason.
There's not much point in starting a thread without writing a solid OP (a la the new NIN thread), is there? And the changes to MNK aren't even that drastic anyhow, I gather.
Then again, the JP equivalent of this thread was just a fairly short FAQ titled "Pugilist/Monk Thread" that got the gist of the job across in 9 questions, so.
Monks has more or less remained the same in terms of openers or rotations except for the minor changes such as squeezing in some chakra charges during boss phase changes or throwing a Tornado kick when the timing calls for it. Otherwise it's the same old monk we knew since ARR.
However it would still be nice to see an updated/more-detailed version of the monk thread such as strategies for different bosses to maximize dps or knowing when to throw out that TK, etc.
I've posted new monk thread called monk 3.0 chakra unleashed. Talks about new opener and boss battles. Please check it out and let me know if you can add more to it.

Uh, no, it hasn't. You ideally start with Coeurl form Demolish and then stick a Snap punch at the end of PB. From then on it's basically exactly the same, get ToD up ASAP and start your basic rotation. Demolish now lasts long enough to make Demo-Snap-Snap-repeat perfect.
Yeah, I agree. Not the mention that the new form shift (coeurl) opening works wonders on dummies, but its not practical at all in other encounters since you have to keep predicting the pulls and other random factors so you can 'prepare' the correct stance. In the end of the day I find myself opening with the good old PB most of the time.
Heya all,
I'm finally about to reach 60 and I started wondering what the next best opener should be. Thank you for sharing these infos and any other personal experience.
Just got one question left about the opener and it's : what order do you use your Off-GCD skills ? Do you go from highest potency to lowest or from lowest Up-time to highest ? Does it even matter ?
I tried a little and would go for FC -> EF -> HF -> SP to have the highest potency skills up earlier.
Using FC first may not seem to be the best option for commun fights but since there probably will be cases of early jumps/disappear from bosses where I could rebuild my chakras, I thought to keep it that way.
Anyway, I'm sure this isn't a major factor in term of DPS improvement but I would be glad to hear what do you guys think about it.
Does anyone here doing the lv 50 stuff in roulettes get that "what the heck am I supposed to do with all this downtime" kinda feeling?
I feel like a bit spoilt with Form Shift and Meditate, made me realised holly hell downtime really sucks for MNK before HW :p
I actually prefer to shift into Opo-opo just before a pull and use dragon kick to get the blunt damage debuff going. It's quicker to get into during pulls than trying to move through all three stances to demolish. Plus I need to make sure there is time for opening chakras in case I've used the forbidden chakra or the TP restoring move.
I've always been of the opinion no one should ever lose abilities they've earned through leveling due to level sync.
If you can't get all your oGCDs off before the boss jumps, save B4B/IR/oGCDs for after the transition. You can still fire off FC if you have the time for rebuilding stacks.
oGCD order is pretty standard. EF should be used ASAP because of it's low cooldown and high potency. HF should just be used with IR always. Peak is lower potency and fill fit in the long B4B timer regardless. Then comes FC, Mercy Stroke and Tackle. FC just needs to be fired off with all buffs up, other than that there's absolutely no reason to use it early. Tackle is used last because the cooldown isn't relevant as it's often kept for mobility. So B4B-(pot)-IR-EF-HF-SP-FC.
The post you are referencing is very old, and predates the actual Tornado Kick potency value that is present in the live version of the game. Initially in previews it was thought to be 500 potency, but what we actually have in the final incarnation is 330 potency. Do not use TK on cooldown. TK is used at mechanic breaks where you would otherwise lose GL3.
Also there's a new thread for monk info that is up to date: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...AKRA-UNLEASHED
You should be able to find answers to most any question you have there.
