-.- Well, I can add this to my pile of Wuk's insufferableness.

So? We still get everything we want in the end, most of the time not by our own efforts but the god given grace of Hydeaelyn herself. Wuk Lamat got herself as queen of resolve and saw her brother massacre her people and was unable to do anything, she watches her father die without being able to do anything, she has to cut her brother down despite the fact that she grew up loving him, we can make a case about any character like this and it is meaningless.
You have to admit, the 'Mary sue' thing is just an argument about nothing.
The only thing Wuk Lamat doesn't have by these standards is the weight of 5 expansions behind her as a main character.
Damn finally, an honest response, since this is what it is. The fact that you can excuse us being a "mary sue" (which we aren't) but not Wuk meant the anger itself is coming from a "I hate it cuz it wasn't about me" place.
And here I'll say I'm completely fine if that's the position you want to take. It's this shallow justifying by 'experts in character analysis' trying to make it "Objectively bad" that's got me so tired.
This mentor thing is done, and her story is very likely to be over by 7.3, and tbh, I just want them to finish it and move on.
Not saying that it’s a good mirror. More like those you see on a carnival but I think that was what the writers attempted at least (and failed spectacularly).
@the others
Believe me I am not defending Wuk Lamat or the writing here but the WoL isn’t a masterpiece of writing either I think.
I love my character but they only work because they are the player character. That’s my honest opinion on that.
That’s all I will say about that.
At this Point, SE should already sell the MSQ Skip for Dawntrail. Or give it every Player for free. Like place a Vendor in all Towns, so that Players can get 1 free Skip, if they like.
Instead of more Wuk, 7.1 should open with us waking up in Rising Stones, sweat running down our face with Tataru running in and breaking down weeping because after our excusions in the 13th we fell into a tormented sleep that had us shaking and screaming for months. The trip to the new world was a fever delusion and now that we were awake we must find what happened to us. Let that story run its course 7.1-7.55 and then do a soft reboot and then just have us go to Myrecidia or even have a full fledged 13th shard expac in 8.0. We can go to the new world later but it needs to rest for awhile.
I feel like you're just making things up so she sounds like she has a character arc.
Her brother had more of an arc with 5% of the lines
Nobody criticizes the wol being a mary sue because they don't talk. You're supposed to imprint yourself onto them. When you give a mary sue a voice they become annoying (wuk)
It's also not a small group of people who are unhappy- japan/china etc are unhappy with the story as well, and they are completely disconnected from the english VA so that's a non issue to them.
if the comments are valid critique its not whining. Lyse was not the strongest character thats not a secret, pointing this out is not whining no matter how you hard you want it to frame that way. If it would be Lyse just so bad as a single comment yes i would agree. But as far as i know people did state their problems with her or WL or whatever charakter they dont like. if theres a reason and this reason is not total garbage like i dont like her hair its valid critique period. I can give you a page long list why people complain about stuff and you would still frame it whining because somebody dislikes your gem i guess. Anyway most people i know give critique for improve stuff and not just for whining hateing or whatever you´ll call that. Instead of posting stuff like you guys are whining you can give arguments and well show people why they are wrong instead.
cheers mate
actually it is ... i worked in hotels for 6 years in my life. If the menu is steak then its steak if guest orders it and get soup he is obviously allowed to complain. if the guest gets soup after it again then yes the restaurant person is maybe not competent and probably will be fired ...
I dont say fire all of them but the people who worked on the story and the ones said its good how it is. They are to blame if theres no change well change of personal might be a solution ...
The thing I don't understand, and maybe its a cultural thing since Japan is really diofferent in a lot of regards, is that Yoshida would win so so so much good will of his customers if he would simply say, "Hey, we messed up. I see that now. I am sorry and we will try to do better in the coming patches, but big changes may not be feasable and WL will still be present in the upcoming patches albeit with some hopefully positive changes to her character. So we will do our best where we can and hopefully our next arc will be able to better meet your expectations." Blizzard just did it, and that won them a lot of good will after likely the lowest point they have ever been and frankly TWW has put WoW back in a pretty decent place. I am sure he is 100% talking to his shareholders in these articles though, instead of us.
I think what people hate the most atm is the doubling down and telling us that we just “misunderstood” wuk after they tried to shove her down our throats for around 8-9 hours of story and still couldn’t write any decent story arc and character development. Like ffs the one area were we are free from wuk is us chasing a necklace from wuk for here caretaker. In a rubber bullet western town like Christ almighty it’s not like we had people shoot others or the other spicy one with self shooting and stuff. When you want some grey and then you get Disney music while you build a train bomb (it’s so out of place and cringe worthy) then I really wanna know what the story people smoked too think this would work in a situation like this.
Yeah more of that sh*t,
I am out
Being vague is part of japanese culture, it's why they even have formal speech and not formal speech. It's like they roleplay themselves because they borrowed ideas from china without giving it a second thought. East Asians don't innovate they copy and copy some more. The reason East Asia is even relevant is because being close to the factory of the world pays off as does cheap labour. In the case of Japan that ship sailed decades ago.
You got your slow pace in the beginning in a split zone, your amp up to the first trial, your climax at level 96, your turning point trial at 99 and your emotional zone at level 100.
You get your 5 dungeons, your 3 trials (with 2 extreme versions of it) and your 4 raids. You get your two new extra jobs, and a bunch of new things to craft
Exactly what was different? It's not soup, if anything it's the same old steak getting stale.
There is PLENTY to crticize about Dawntrail, there is plenty to point out in order to improve and instead we're here crying over one character that's pretty much gonna be gone soon.
1 zone is alpaca lore and haggling and wuk having zero clue how the pelu pelu culture works after being in tural and in contact with one repairing the axe for her. 2 zone people starve and have died from this massive storm but let’s party first lucky for wuk the party plan ofc works so no one starves or you know koanas plan also worked without risking them dying from starvation.
1 dungeon complete pointless because the way we walk has no option to continue
2 zone part 2 we get a elezen to work for the not “goblins” that we (lucky for us) helped before the dungeon and even more lucky for us we did meet him on the ship (most boring deus ex machina moment in a ff game).
1 part 2 a group hates the entire dawn servant concept and want too kill them but wuk just saves 1 soldier does some talk no jutsu and they don’t wanna kill us anymore, after 1 time of talk. Dungeon is just a typical “test your mettle” story wise, I argue it’s cool we fight the bird attacking us before. But after the dungeon running around for fire aether and fighting small little monster for whatever dumb reason and valigarmanda being a complete push over threat while being treated like the most danger for tural was just funny.
And after these 2 disappointing areas we come too the most infuriating zone we’re the dawnservant that wants too test his candidate gives a random lucky site a completely and dumb advantage with spices so they can win the contest and lucky for us the story again gives us a deus ex machina and pairs us with koana and the rest of the scion. Plus this zone is the start of the arc for wuks complete mary sue powerboost out of thin air and the power of talk no jutsu changing the culture of the entire “blessed one” mentality and that instant without any problems. I could go on about the other areas but I think I don’t wanna or can’t.
might i introduce you all to the revolutionary idea and method, called...
skipping cutscenes?
it's safe. come across cutscene which grates you nerves? don't watch it!
easy solution to all your "i dislikee this npc on screen" problems ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ
While I'm not as... venomous, shall we say, as many on the forum about MSQ, this is some of the worst advice I've seen.
Wuk Lamat features in, like, 70% of MSQ cutscenes at DT. Skipping the cutscenes relating to this character is like advising people not to do the story quest, in a game that has long made the story quest its main selling point.
Sorry but you could say the same of Endwalker and every expansion that came before it. I personally hated all of Endwalker zones, except maybe Ultima Thule, and I liked Ultima Thule because it had the weight of 10 years of storytelling behind it.
But so what? All this proves is you didn't like it, the opinion is fine and valid, but it's still everything they advertised, FFXIV hasn't changed so much to go from a "Steak to a soup", quite the contrary in fact , it's biggest weakness right now it's that it refuses to change at all.
They already paid for the VA work, now they have to shove it down our throats for three excruciating patch cycles at minimum. Mmm... Slop. Thanks Yoshida.
Me pressing that skip cut scene button when she appears

I think you're missing the central point. For one, you're trying to say that a dining experience - something someone can experience 3 or more times in a day is equivalent to receiving major story content in a game that extended its update cycle to be about 2.5 years long. That is factually incorrect. A "bad steak" isn't going to sink a restaurant in a night - try serving it for 3 years and lemme know how that P&L is looking.
It doesn't matter if "everything is as advertised" because no one is compelled to continue financially supporting SE by paying their sub. So literally anything that would cause a large enough portion of players to stop paying their subs is a legitimate concern and needs to be addressed - regardless of whether one would objectively call it "fair" or justify it in any other way. Watch the Dawntrail trailer and tell me if that's what we got, because half of it is the final cutscene in the story lmfao. Simply put, if the money doesn't go in, the game dies. This is where the largest disconnect occurs: People are not complaining and ranting on the forums because they hate the game and "want their steak," necessarily, they are scared that the game they love has entered a state of decline and they don't want anything bad to happen to it.
Finally, "most people liked it" isn't good enough. "most people" is over a 50% positive rating statistically speaking - which is objectively considered bad in terms of media reviews. This is a subscription service, you gotta make something that people wanna keep playing because operating costs are expensive. FF14 Dawntrail is currently sitting at "mixed" on Steam, with only 55% positive reviews. Other websites show somewhat similar results but bear in mind you are going to want a sample size that's higher than one the hundreds. That is bad news. People are worried about the game they love, there's no need to join YoshiP in insulting them for "not getting it" when they're the ones who are paying for it to be developed (in addition to numerous SE flop titles) with their subs in the first place.
YOU WILL LIKE WUK LAMAO
My man. Of course we're getting more of her. They're not gonna change it just because of a bunch of loud children complaining about the most inane things about her. And here's hoping we get more of her in 8.0 and beyond.
Anyone who disagrees with you is a child? Should we not get a say in how the game's story progresses despite paying a subscription for it?
Or is it only good to listen to feedback when it's feedback you personally like? I'd love to see some of the people saying they shouldn't change based on feedback back in 5.3 when they added Graha Tia to the scions based on player feedback. Was that a mistake to listen to "children" saying they wanted something different?
Yes. They also preach that Emet is the best written villain of every FF series, while Shadowbringers set the decline of the narrative by forcing the main cast always to be kind and understand all their sad and redeemable villains. So, yeah, no. Community has been something else over MSQ ever since ever.
Hah, look at these "adult" fans doing more damage to the game than disillusioned complainers ever could. Asking the devs to stay the course that's ruining the formerly award winning (now mixed reviews) narrative, and some of them urging even more people to quit if they don't like it. Competitors won't have to lift a finger to get ahead at this point.
Considering how dogwater the 7.1 story was. I don't mind skipping and speed-clicking through dialogue. It's a damn shame I have to, but, ugh. I do not--will not, like Wuk Lamat unless they do some serious rewriting for the character and do something about the nails-to-chalkboard voice.
I fully expect another bucket of 'Unskippable Cutscenes' to increase the run time to a level that is acceptable to shareholders. FML

Alright then buddy. Then please explain why most of those negative reviews I've read come from extremely bigoted people complaining about woke/DEI.
Did people seriously think the current "main character" of the expansion... Wouldn't be in said expansion's patch quests? Is there any reason why Wuk Lamat wouldn't be present to figure out the mystery of her own currently underdeveloped brother and his child? I would much rather them give her a slightly more natural character benching than scrap her entirely, and the former doesn't leave me with a sense of dread knowing that the entirely of future expansions could just be rewritten by fans no matter how bad the decisions could be in hindsight. Just give me less "Speak to Wuk Lamat"s so she can be benched in peace and we all can finally just move on from her.
Considering the fate of other "future leaders of the expansion spotlight", I'm sure this is going to be the case by the end of the patch msq, she'll be shelved until they can find a way to shoehorn back in for the moment if the situation calls for it, and take her right back out. I can't imagine her staying for the entirely of this next saga, it's like if Lyse stuck around for ShB when she had no business being there.
There's a stark difference with that. Now I'm not going to act like I knew about the G'raha being added into the Scions due to fan feedback. Which I assume was in ARR. But people are clamoring and protesting for her death in the patch quests. Which isn't going to happen because of the story already being laid out. God I shutter what these children were saying about Lyse during Stormblood.
MMOs that involve asset/strength build-up or otherwise player-empire building games, can be compared to going to work. The following is obviously not an exclusive paradigm covering everyone, but this is the overwhelming scenario:
If a decent person works somewhere 'bad' but work with good people, they can survive that workplace a long time and depending on the role, sometimes even go the extra kilometre doing extra little things that carry the company or operation a bit. Even if some amenities conditions aren't great, and the pay is a little less than it should be, they will stick around. Especially if there is reason to believe conditions will improve (proof in actions).
If a decent person works somewhere 'good', but the people they have to work with are bad/awful, they will leave. A free snack and coffee machine and a bit extra pay/other perks will not keep them.
Guess which scenario Dawntrail is, but now with the added bonus of the game deteriorating too and no reason to believe even recent mistakes will be corrected (Plunge, Spineshatter Dive, Monk interference, and of course- Summoner, among things).
I don't agree with that person at all, but considering G'raha did absolutely nothing of on-screen importance this expansion besides give us a nice talk on a boat for 5 minutes, making him join the scions based purely off of player feedback *was not* the best idea, actually. At this point, it seems like they have no idea what to do with him anymore besides small cameos for fanservice, because they had nothing else planned for him besides throwing him in the main cast just to make a few people happy.
In this case, I'd rather them follow through while making some small tweaks to make Wuk less of an issue than have it all scrapped entirely, or else the writers are just going to be mindboggled and stuck on what to do with each and every character going forward, possibly ruining the experience of people that love or hate whatever character in every single future expansion.
Nope Graha was made a scion after his popularity in the 5.0 msq. He was never meant to be a main part of the group or even be reawakened on the source. They completely changed his arc post 6.0 after seeing how popular he became. So it can be done if they really really want to.
Okay but in all seriousness why are people being referred to as ‘children’ because they have genuine concerns and criticisms toward the game’s direction regarding Wuk?
