its hard to reply on ur question . i would need to know if ur queued as a DD or tank ? or was it after midnight? or during the afternoon?

after midnight it will always take longer , also there will be always more DD's then tanks. IT was the same with 2.0

i can only speak from my own experience i had in game so far , the only times it took really long for a dungeon to pop was when i lvled a DD class after midnight :P

I talk about People being on so i can progress story. Does it need to feel like i play a offline game for hours and there is a glitch that doesnt allow me to progress?

No, they don't but it's an MMO. People need to learn to be a little more patient. It's a marathon not a sprint. You can't complain about every queue that doesn't pop, get 3-7 other friends to play if you need to be able to do things all the time every time on your schedule.

World of Warcraft makes several changes over the course of it's lifetime, players complain and reminisce with nostalgia glasses and make private servers to relive the "glory days."

FFXIV announces that it'll more or less stay the course with minor adjustments to it's formula, players complain that it's stagnant and boring and needs major overhauls in order to retain subscription numbers.

had 2 new people in it to :)

while u can progress normaly with the main scenario (via rouletes and relic weapon :P),
the only thing where u might not find a group (in a normal mmo time) via duty finder is coil , because its not a main scenario quest,and the gear is outdated anyway.

It's next to impossible to be a "successful" MMORPG these days by designing things identical to the struggles of the past. People want the community we had back in the early XI and vanilla WoW era, but they can't comprehend sitting in a queue that's longer than 10min. They want their content difficult, but will complain the very moment someone new joins or messes up. They want rewards to be meaningful, but expect to be assured its acquisition within a week or two at most. They want to play an MMORPG, but don't want even a remote hint of RNG or "grind" aspects involved (goes side by side with the meaningful rewards comment). This is the majority, where even a good number of people who post here are guilty of comments that prove this mentality is ever present.

That first comment about community is where a majority of players will not fully understand. One would (probably) had to have actually experienced and reflected on the matter to get why negative points actually helped create the positive nostalgia people have. Our encountering people today in dungeons/raids, for example, is mostly a shadow of its former self. You're simply meeting people that you'll likely never see again. You got your positive/negative experience, but that's the extent of it. If you do pre-mades or run stuff with friends, then you're getting that old school experience, but I'd say nearly all of us don't use that as our primary means of experiencing the game.

How often has it happened for someone to have done a DF solo queue, then wound up befriending someone to the point that you get invited by them to do stuff? I think it's safe to say (almost) never, simply because of our need to have a cross-realm/server function. You'll meet some cool people, but the moment you all leave the instance, is the moment your connection has essentially been cut. It's a good and somewhat mandatory thing we have it, but it came at the cost of losing a significant part of that former social perspective. Some people still get that, which is great, but most of us won't "just because."

I'd even go so far as to argue that the regulars on the forums have a greater lasting social connection (good or bad) than most of the DF people we'd encounter lol.

I disagree on the graphical appearance bit to a small degree, as while there are a large number graphically shallow players, it's not too big of a deal as to whether or not they'd stick around for at least a little while. They'd complain or count on it as a negative, but when have we never complained about things lol.

I do absolutely agree however about most people not wanting to return to the old format of gameplay. Some very much so are willing to, but most can't/don't share such views. As an old time player still playing MMORPGs today, unless I had a static already formed for most/all group content, there's no way I'd stick around for the old format beyond a short period of time or for the nostalgia of it. XI's current form is about as close as I'm willing to get to experiencing old games solo... but that's not saying much as an MMORPG. It's more like I'm playing XI as the single player game many of us wish there could have been (optionally).

Silly question, but are you marking E and F when you're queuing in duty finder? As I understand it, Moogle has a very large French playerbase which could be affecting your queue times if you don't have F checked.

If that still doesn't alleviate your wait times maybe Party Finder and a shout in a populated hub town will net you a nice party to help you through.

I'm marking everything and it shouldn't effect me at all, due to the duty finder is SERVER wide not only 1 server but as in a data center.

If 4.x is more of the same, it will damage the game more than 3.1 did. They have to do something interesting.

Well yes since you're marking all languages it won't affect you, but my point was that since you're on the EU data center which has a large French population that queuing with F would reduce queue time instead of only queuing E.

I'm also betting we'll see a new Diadem-type of content, but probably designed to be much more engaging than the initial attempt. Yoshi seems pretty intent on developing new kinds of content to go along with what we've grown accustomed to.

Not at the same time, and likely not as activities to replace the grind at endgame. remember how 3.0 somehow had less going on than 2.55? It will be like that.

Not really. ilvl is far more easily obtainable. Friends of mine quit roughly a year ago at ilvl 170 or so. It would take them little more than a month to be caught up if they came back tomorrow. I think this is the issue right here. When we use generic comments like "guaranteed to be different" and "more of the same", there is a massive difference in what each of us are interpreting. I for one, do not consider PotD to be core to the game enough that it makes the game guaranteed to be different. I am sure the person you quoted feels the same way, but I guess I cannot be 100%.

When I read, "If 4.x is more of the same, it will damage the game more than 3.1 did. They have to do something interesting.", I think fundamentals need to be changed. Things such as (not necessarily all, or any, of these - just examples):

• Reinvigorating combat and making changes to the current skill bloat, complexity and length GCD (lengthy GCD works well with the skill bloat and complexity that we have, but if we reduce the others, GCD needs to be addressed)
• Change how raids and/or dungeons are presented (i.e. not queuing straight into a boss for a raid, or non-linear pathway dungeons)
• Create more open world end-game focus
• A change to the trinity (4th role? More combined roles? Different content requires different roles?)
• Talent trees or specs added

Or more on point to the original poster's discussion - consistent growth of character post max level. This can be done in numerous ways (i.e. look at Artifact weapons in WoW).

Adjusting my expectations is exactly where this has led me. I expect the game to continue as it has, and so I am less interested in it. I still like what the game is, I just don't like where it's going.

I've been hoping for them to give me a reason to play for more than a few weeks after a patch. Yoshi-P has spoken; there isn't going to be one.

And so as he has suggested, I will only sub a few months out of the year and focus more on playing other games.


Now please get rid of that damn 45 day house reclamation and extend it to 95. Thanks.

Not necessarily. Now that Legion is moving beyond the honeymoon phase, people are starting to complain about the Artifact weapons because they become a massively long grind. FFXIV tried this and people did nothing but whine over the Anima weapon. Granted, my own complaints were it lacked any meaningful sense of progression. You just did chores.

I, initially, supported a fourth role, but now wonder if that would only take away from existing job diversity. Say a dedicated Support role was added. Dragoon having the raid utility it does would no longer make sense, since those buffs should be on a Support job. We essentially already have a fourth role when you consider just have versatile Ninjas, Bards and Machinists are.

So you can only log in once every three months to binge the patch, but not lose your personal house? It's meant to both incentive you to stay subbed and to ensure people with houses are actually using them. Don't like? Sell your house and get an apartment.

Interesting stats and gear would fix character growth.

"Before I got X item I couldn't do Y" (where Y is not defeating a specific boss, but an actual thing your character can do - An extra hit during a buff window, a new rotation, etc)

something you'll never say in FFXIV.


By the way, interesting stats doesn't mean unique gear abilities or new stats necessarily. A new stat would help, but

-procs on crit
-procs on parry
-abilities that do more of something (damage reduction, duration, whatever) with higher DET/Speed
-more WSes like Empyreal Arrow
-chance to X on WS (benefits from speed)

would all make stats more interesting just by existing. The problem is that we have relatively bland classes + extremely bland gear combined with constant gear resets and catchup patches every 3 months. Raids give no rewards because even if you get a best in slot set and fully kit it out with materia, you have to replace it next raid patch with really easy to obtain crafted gear.

You guys are like going to play 1 month each patch cycle?

What about gardering, what about getting the tomestone gear, what about the x.x5 suff? ( anima, podt, orther possible new content )
What about GC? the more you play the better your garrisons will be...
what about wonders tails, what happens if you miss the chanse of getting a very nice rewards?

Whether people complain about them or not is irrelevant. I did not say it was good or bad (while I think they are good, that wasn't explicitly said). All I said is that it is a form of post-max level progression.

That said, I have seen very few people complaining about them in-game, on reddit or on their official forums. Most who have complained get a lot of downvotes.

Also, the relic and the artifact are really nothing alike. Comparing apples to oranges.

In terms of the 4th role, all current classes have some support and/or utility. These would need to be removed really in order for a Support/Utility role to be viable. There are other possibilities for a 4th role, I would think. We just need to be creative. The new content would obviously need to cater to these other roles.

Maybe there could be a leadership role - with skills to help your team flow more synergistically and provide on-screen direction.
Maybe there could be a crowd control role - which exclusively applies debuffs to enemies to help control the battlefield
Maybe there could be other roles that I cannot think of off the top of my head.

I think if a new role were added, all new jobs would need to be that role, so that we were not left with 1 job for 1 role.

Also note that I am not necessarily in favour of adding a new role.

You listed a lot of things in your post that I have major issues with (GC, tomestone gear, garening, wonderous tails).

I don't think anyone is suggesting any other MMO is perfect. That doesn't mean other MMO's don't do certain things better than FFXIV.

Granted, I don't think you are actually sick of the drama, or you wouldn't be reading these forum posts.

They honestly need to stop playing it safe once I heard 4.0 will be the same I just was...well disappointed I was hoping for something fresh and new but 3.0 is just 2.0 with the same formula and as a long time player i'm just tired of it. As for character growth why should I even bother upgrading my ilvl? There'll be a catch up patch and I can gear my character again I wish we could have some other way to gear ourselves under savage like 5 ilvls lower through Savage Dungeons or something but having to farm tomes over and over and over has worn on me and I haven't capped in 3 weeks. I haven't felt like my character has grown the only way I felt that was through the tank changes which affected every tank not myself so that's a bust, i'm tired of trying to fill people for a static usually have 6 FC members and 2 PUGs now it's more of 3 FC members 5 PUGs and the PUGs maybe stay for 2-3 weeks so I gave up trying to clear A8S. If it's the same formula I won't bother trying to start another static up i'm done I did this for Gordias and Midas and it's brought only headaches for myself and my friends most of them are playing Legion now as myself and I find the character growth there is substantial compared to FF XIV but now i'm getting off topic.

I am taking a break till 3.4 but only myself will know if i'll really enjoy 3.4 and to be truly honest with you i'm just meh with everything nothing excites me anymore, raiding is eh in here as raiders aren't rewarded and are neglected, no midcore options, dungeons are forgotten within the same day, trials are good until you farm them for the 203203293 time, getting the birds then you'll never have to go back. I don't enjoy Lord of Vermillion, I don't enjoy Manderville Golden Saucer, Triple Triad, that content is forgettable for me, I do the relic only because I started it a long time ago and might as well finish it, I know i'm harping on this game but as a paying customer for my own enjoyment with others I want them to take risks. I truly love this game but the development team just keeps making awkward decisions that as a consumer can't agree with and am just confused as to why they make these decisions.

I'm with Spookyghost and support his/her ideas as I share the same views about the game but had to ramble on a bit about content and what not but I need to let it out and talk about it I don't want this game to die at all but I want them to at least take risks and mold and give us quality, lasting, content.

It really is. Having to keep up with seven or eight gear sets per character is not only boring, but requires a massive amount of grind for what amounts to .5% efficiency gain. There's really nothing fun or enjoyable about it.

This is how I feel. It would annoy me to constantly have to open my character menu or have a bunch of gear sets for one class set on my hotbar. There isn't anything interesting about it. You just swap gear for one fight, then swap back.

No, they don't but it's an MMO. People need to learn to be a little more patient. It's a marathon not a sprint. You can't complain about every queue that doesn't pop, get 3-7 other friends to play if you need to be able to do things all the time every time on your schedule.

Patient is 1 thing, getting no where even when you are patient is another. I have friends, however, sometimes we aren't on same time and sometimes we are. Some have helped me already which is great, but don't get me wrong. 99% people who preach this game and say one of it's highlight in this game is to catch up easy.
How is catching up easy when you struggle?

I'm not saying you are wrong, but is it really healthy for new players to feel excactly what I feel now? Of course not, you even said it's not. However, it feels like it's acceptable just because people aren't involved in it, as in in my situation. When they aren't it's not their concern at all. This is a MMO, where you are supose to play with a lot of other people, yes friends do come and go, and yes they do help. However, when you barely see anything going on, you know something is wrong. I played other recent MMO's and they just feel way more alive, how is that a thing? I'm not going to compare which one is best or not, I'm saying because it's how it feels like. When I enter a online game that's supose to be full of people but when it's not, what am I supose to feel then?


Example and this is more on topic: Progression/growth on character. If some one is already full ilvl on this game, it's either: Get another class to max iLvl or simply play another game. You see this? If there is no progression or growth after you beat let's say hardest raid in game, what's the point staying? People unsub leave the game for a while then come back for next patch, which is completely understandable, however the new people that SO many speak about, that is good and healthy for the game, what about them? You gonna let them sit back and just be ''patient''?

You do know a lot of people don't have time to sit on the game for 10 hours a day right? Myself work a lot but I do have days where I could play all day, like today I had off, but did I get anywhere closed where I wanted to be? Not really, far from it. Then I get told that I need to wait for patch then it's okay to start again? Do square enix need to have a patch info before the sell the game so they know they wont come back to a place nobody cares anymore until patch is on? I know this sound dramatic but this is the current and the most respons I've gotten so far.

Many seem to forget that Square enix is holding a business here, their job is to keep their customer not chase them away for something else. I'm aware people do come back for next patch etc, however, the more they do this the more they will lose. It's like what someone already mentioned, some people don't even look in here and they are happy, but what about the people who are silent? They leave without a word. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? From a business man perspective you will always wonder how you could keep those customers full time rather than lose them to someone else, or why did it happen after all? Something we can adjust and fix?

Me? I have no idea how this game can improve, but for starters, make the old players more interested to stay and this way new players or even the ones who come back like myself, well get guided and also get the stuff we want to do.

Tl:dr; Give remaining players/old players something to work on and progress and also give them a better character growth, which allows new people to see there is actually people around and doesn't need to be concerned about waiting for a new patch. I also know this is off topic but Ilvl feels just like a bloat atm, it's just an illusion if you are good or not. Many people take this ilvl system a bit too granted.

Yes, from what I gathered, XI allowed you to change your gear during combat. The result being that players would make multiple gearsets for spefici purposes and then swap them in the middle of a fight. Say there was a Boss which phases based on the elemental wheel. You'd start with Fire-aspected gear for the Ice phase, then when he switches to say...Lightning, you'd whip out your earth aspected gear and fight him there.

And XI has plenty of gear that affects certain skills, in another example lets say there 3 Gearsets with these as set bonuses: once that increases enmity for Fast Blade, One that increases enmity from Savage Blade and one that increases enmity from rage of Halone. If this kind of gear swapping was permitted in XIV then the PLD would be able to change gear almost every GCD

Aurora summed it up nicely. If different gear influences boss mechanics, you'll have to change it based on the fight. But say they just put special effects on gear. What generally happens is players figure out which is most useful, then recommend only that piece. Say one piece of armour had a chance to make Blood for Blood cast with no cooldown (like how Healers get a free Cure proc) while another piece offered a straight 10% STR buff. The latter piece is likely to win out as the default because it's consistent. I guess you could add it, since it won't hurt. I just don't, personally, see the point.

The main use of gear swaps were for your big attacks (Weapon skills) Tanking (Def or Evasion sets) or Elemental resistances for spells (Blackmages would carry around a large pile of staves for each element to reduce resistances and capitalize on critical hits.

So let's say I was playing Thief (Burst damage based) I had my haste and accuracy gear as my "TP" (Resource you gained to use big weaponskill attacks) So I would attack fast and accuratly, when I used my buffs and weaponskill I would switch over to my weaponskill set to maximize damage.

Theoretically it was pretty cumbersome but it gave you a large variety of gear to work towards and always new things to try and obtain. It was rarely dull looking for gear unlike another MMO we all know.

My SCH carried 58/60 pieces of gear at all times. Come at me.
