About the topic, I totally agree to unlock genders about the two new races.
The reason is:
Female Roegadyn are rare... ok.
Male miqo'tes are.... with strange fingers.... ok.
Female Highlander are... the most "interesting" females around (but, yeah, this not the point u.u).
The point is: to have options!
Even if most of us don't play as a furry Hrothgar girl or a dude with rabbit ears it would be good to have options!
I love lore stuff! I am most driven by that, but in terms of playable races, I'd prefer more options in character creation rather than gender locks for lore sake.
Besides, lore can be worked out. The Vieras don't need to be exactly like they are in FFXII lore (there they are against the males and live only in female communities).
And it's great to avoid answering questions like: 'how they procriate?" "why I can't play as a male Viera?" and so on...
Wanna do a locked gender option to character creation? Include something based on the genderless Qu race from FFIX :D (that would be interesting as well, btw). -

Sure, if they feel like putting male viera in the game, I'm cool with it. If not, no biggie. When it comes to reasons I'd play or quit a game, available races is way down near the bottom of the list. I'd rather see them put the time into creating a tackle box, adding more storage in general, or allowing us to craft using items stored with my retainer. Things that would actually effect gameplay.

Devs stalling for literally years on unlocking the bunny outfit because it made their male developers feel uncomfortable so it had to be delegated to their female devs is a bunch of bad things there too. And it's not unrelated to this case because guess what - bunny boys. Yoshida saying male Viera would be weird (if indeed he meant it aesthetics wise and not "we never saw them before so suddenly having them would be weird") while adding female Viera into the game is problematic.

There's A LOT that I disagree with some of their decisions. But in terms of them making four new base models and making sure the entire game runs with them, is another story. This is including making them compatible EVERYTHING already in the game, as well as what's in the expansion. Multiple multiple things, except they chose for resource and time management to release two races with more customization to try and appeal to both demographics, those that wanted viera, and those that wanted a beast like race. It obviously did not pan over well, and this isn't an issue of "gimme gimme gimme" whether the reason for yoshida adding male miqo'te, female roe's and female highlander was because at it's impetus the game had much less gear to manage, the locking of genders has historically been ill received by the community.
Male mithra existed and were long asked for during XI lifespan with the devs essentially trolling everyone and releasing a male mithra as an npc only race. Galka basically needed to be written as asexual to keep people from asking for female Galka, again whether you believe people are "whining" or being "un-realistic" the dev team realized there would be backlash yet did not prepare for it.
Also keep in mind the "Stop asking for things it'd be too much on the dev team" is just a fallacy, players and consumers should be allowed to voice requests and it is not silly or harmful to do so. I believe no one here is asking the dev team to work themselves to death, no one wants that, stop framing this as such people are voicing their desire for a feature not in the game, whether that be QoL fixes, BLU being unlocked or Furnishing designs, that is part of why these forums exist, for feedback. -

I definitely was not advocating for any form of shota style when it comes to a potential design for male Viera. I have seen others offer Omega-M as a potential body model. In my own mind I had pictured the male High Elves of Tera when I thought of a bodystyle; slender and wiry as opposed to bulky or over-muscled. I won't post an image link because competitive game and all. I was hopeful that they would use a height differential similar to what they did along the lines a maximum height Au'ra female compared to a minimum height Au'ra male when creating male Viera and female Viera respectively. The height differences between the Au'ra's genders was a feature I found very striking about them when they were released. The reverse is not something I can ever recall having as an option in any of the races of other MMORPG's I have played.Quote:
