Cosmic Exploration is Bad

I’d really like if BTN and MNR got better GP control that was actually integrated into their rotation, like rather than starting a mission or ending contact with a node fully restoring GP what if MNR/BTN had a skill that functions sorta like thaliak’s favour.

Every hit of a node with 1000 collectibility generates one stack of “in tune with nature” and you can consume stacks to restore GP. You could also make it so every proc of gatherers boon had a chance to generate a stack as well

That's my point. You shouldn't need BiS penta-melded gear to level a gatherer in Cosmic Explorations. But currently, you do. It's nearly impossible to level in the zone as a gatherer unless you're ready to play "savage" gathering.

This was supposed to be casual leveling content, for me and many others, it's not. It's not fun, casual, or good for leveling.

Square Enix consistently provides plenty of challenging content for raiders, while casual players only get a few hours of gameplay with each update. Now, Cosmic Exploration has only made this problem worse. For me, the main issue isn’t the difficulty level. What really ruined the fun in Cosmic Exploration were the constant stumbling blocks and frustrations throughout the activity. There should be two ways to earn all rewards: raiders can obtain them more quickly, while casual players can also achieve them with more patience and time. This would be fair to both groups.

I will quit playing before I join the Balance Discord. That group of entitled, elitist, racist, @SShats can all go back to the aetherial sea and never come back. The world would be a better place without them.

And having a challenge is fine, but what I was dealing with as a fisher was beyond "challenging". It's was downright punishing and I'm NOT max level yet. Save the challenge for the max level stuff, and if you want to make a "savage mode" for crafters and gatherers, then make it part of the red alerts or something that you have to opt in to do. Don't set it as the default setting for the casual leveling content.

But there already is

If you want the rewards slowly then simply do B ranks + red alerts, that literally achieve everything

Plus raiders and hardcore crafters don’t necessarily overlap, just because you are an Omni casual doesn’t mean everyone is casual at everything

I offered to help you, I tried to understand what problems you had and offered you advice, I agreed the way gear progression works on crafters is rather opaque. Genuinely what did you want from me? I only started being rude and sassy because you rebuked my offers and help then insulted me and called me rude and unhelpful. You were never going to try and "help". You were hear to dogpile with the other 4 people claiming that there's nothing wrong with Cosmic Explorations at all and try to pretend like it's the most perfect content in the game.

I've spent 14 pages dealing with people like you, my patience is gone and I just don't care to be nice to people like you anymore who assume that the problem is me and that I just don't know how to play my class, because the problem couldn't possibly be the content itself. Never mind the fact that my complaints are the same as just about every other person who is a casual gatherer player and who wants a casual way to level their gatherers.

The problem isn't cosmic exploration, its you wanting everything spoonfed to you in easy mode.

Edit: Yes I do realise DOL exist, I maxed all relics in 7 days (Though I took 2 days off between crafter and gatherer so I guess 5)

Except the problem is literally your gear. I deduced this for you on like page 2

I even agreed with you it was bad that game kept telling you to upgrade your ilvl but the items you buy from cosmic are actually downgrades but that doesn’t change the fact that it was your gear and you objectively bought the wrong gear (notice I never insulted you for it)

“All the other people saying this content is bad” aren’t complaining about you owning the wrong gear. There are legit criticisms to this content, you owning the wrong gear then telling everyone else they are wrong is not a complaint. No matter how much you say I don’t get to be the arbiter of what is and isn’t a complaint you owning the wrong gear then acting like your skills are so good it must actually be the content that’s wrong is NOT a complaint, go back and watch that happy stream, never once did he say “I bought the wrong gear and made the content harder for myself that’s why cosmic is awful”

I don't get where that perception comes from that Cosmic Exploration is or was meant to be casual crafter/gatherer content.

Crafter and gatherer content usually is considered more casual as the skill ceiling isn't as high. There are a lot of resources out there helping you to equip yourself optimally or assisting you in creating macros or finding the perfect rotations if you are doing it by hand. Same goes for gatherers with 960GP rotations for collectables etc.

TeamCraft is an excellent resource for all that kind of information.

All crafting missions from D-B aren't time limited either. One could argue that having the gathering missions on a timer is a bit too much.

A-missions are meant for Level 100 as it is clearly stated in-game. And I really did enjoy solving those recipes as some of them were tricky. Felt like a good puzzle :)

But as far as crafting and gathering content goes, Cosmic Exploration is 'midcore' to 'hardcore' crafter/gatherer content. Most expert recipes aren't the hardest we had but some actually require knowledge about crafting and CP management.

The perception comes from the fact that you can start doing Cosmic Explorations at level 10. I'm a level 97 fisher, the minimum iLvl for gear for D rank stuff is 595 or something like that... when I was in my lvl 90 script gear, I wasn't catching anything. When I bought the gear from the Cosmic Explorations vendor, I then started to catch stuff, but I was still failing more than succeeding.

This is a very specific problem for gatherers. Crafters are having the easiest time in the world because they can use macros and they don't actually have to try or rely on RNG like gatherers, specifically fishers, do. Cosmic Explorations was made for crafters, not gatherers, who were a forgotten afterthought.

And again, this isn't just my opinion that Cosmic Explorations is bad for gatherers, it's the opinion of a lot of people, including hardcore players like Mr. Happy and others.

You can be wrong all you want, it won't change the fact that you are wrong. When I was using my level 90 script gear I wasn't succeeding at all. When I used the vendor gear from Cosmic Explorations, I was at least able to succeed every once in a while. Since I'm not level 100 yet, I can't wear the BiS gear.

Stat point for stat point the level 97 gear you can buy from the cosmic merchant is weaker than the Level 90 purple scrip gear. So if you bought the 97 gear and saw a modest improvement then it’s simply a placebo affect as you actually made your gear weaker.

This is a hat I’m trying to explain to you. You aren’t listening to people who are saying you are doing something wrong. I wasn’t trying to insult you I was trying to help you. Just because content is levelling doesn’t mean it has to be brainless. Cosmic fishing is a puzzle you solve with your kit, you don’t just outgear it. Even with pentamelded BIS B rank fishing still requires you to “play the puzzle”, you can’t just ignore it with stats.

If you tell us what is going wrong, like “I’m constantly hooking the wrong fish” or “I don’t have the GP to sustain patience 2 like I feel like this mission is asking me to do” we can offer you solutions. I’ve simulated basically all the D C and B rank missions with gear from the mid 90’s and I don’t struggle with them. I’m trying to figure out what you are struggling with so I can help you

Because again pointing to me happy as an example of “see everyone is complaining” is near worthless when Mr happy is complaining about things like GP not restoring between missions, not having something in your kit that you are or aren’t using and declaring the content is terrible because of it

I think C.E could have been handled a lot better. I personally find it extremely boring, as well as overall very uninteresting to look at.

Also, I think if someone makes a thread to critique something, it's very obnoxious to have to read people suddenly running in to defend it who wouldn't have said a single word about it otherwise. Of course you can like it, but please go make a "I love this thing!" thread instead. It's very annoying how every single time without fail whenever people are trying to discuss problems with this game, others come running in to collectively hallucinate that the entire topic is wrong, and then derail about their own personal feelings. Again, if you feel so strongly that something is doing great, by all means please go make a "this is great!" thread and agree with each other there about how great it is. but please don't specifically wait until someone comes to talk about something being wrong to suddenly want to come clamor in to drown out valid points with your thoughts on how everything is great actually, which ultimately have nothing to do with the main topic. WAY too much flies under the radar with this game entirely because of how hard some of you defend every single little thing no matter how bad it is. Almost nobody is denying that GP regenerates too slow, gatherers achieve cosmic points too slowly relative to the crafters who are easier and more AFK’able, aetherial reduction is too slow on missions that have a time limit, some elements of gear progression are pointlessly opaque.

Cosmic has its fair share of problems that disproportionately affect the gatherers but there is a difference between complaining about them and failing D ranks at level 97 and declaring the content is the worst thing ever when you won’t even explain why you are failing D ranks at 97

Yea, like I said: The time limit on gatherer missions is a bit too much imho. (They could basically remove that time limit from all D - B missions where the goal isn't to get gold for completion within a certain time)

Especially because GP is such a limited resource when doing gatherer in Cosmic. Points are also not enough. If points were more, failing from time to time would be fine.

Fisher is hard and RNG heavy just like outside of cosmic. I really think they should add one of two things:
- A place to rest to refill GP faster
- Or: Special cordials only useable in Cosmic which fill 800GP can only be used in cosmic and are either given at the start of missions or cheaply available for cosmo credits.

Cool, then tell me, why do they lock other content away behind iLvl? Sure, in general, higher iLvl gear has better stats, but from personal experience in Cosmic Explorations, I can tell you that iLvl actually matters in Cosmic Explorations. With out the right iLvl, I was not getting any success. With the right iLvl, I would be able to succeed maybe 1 out of 5 attempts. So, you are wrong and your continued assumption that the problem must be me and not the content is really starting to piss me off.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about and are clearly here to just white knight for the content because you can't fathom that this content might actually just be bad.

The ocean fishing boat will always leave at 15 minutes past the hour (every other hour) regardless of how many people queue. If not enough people are queuing to fill a boat you'll end up waiting until then.

You are in NORMAL QUALITY gear, it’s literally weaker than your old level 90 gear, ILVL is literally meaningless in this situation because your stats went down.

Cosmic gathering has problems, look to that cosmic fishing thread you were absolutely sure I’d white knight for examples I suggested of problems and fixes cosmic fishing. You not understanding how gathering gear works and being absolutely sure it’s caused by the content being terrible and not you not understanding how your gear works is again not cosmics fault, it’s the fault of the wider gatherer gearing system but screaming cosmic is at fault here isn’t going to change that you simply don’t know how to gear properly

You are wrong.

It's once every 2 hours, and I have tried for the last 6 months to do Ocean Fishing, and the instance never spawned. I waited over 30 minutes once to see if the instance would ever spawn.

You're ignoring what I said because it doesn't fit the narrative you've formed in your head. Literally, the only difference between me succeeding and my failing was the gear I was using. I was using the same abilities in the same rotation, I always use them.

Without the Cosmic Exploration gear, I would 100% fail. With the Cosmic Exploration gear, I would succeed maybe 1 out of 5 tries. Do you understand that or are you too st*pid to understand that, and I need to try to find smaller words you are capable of understanding?

how do they synch down?

im having a really hard time on crafter. im using ilvl 700 script gear on the left side and ilvl 620 script gear on the right side. both on crafter and gatherer.

but while its pretty easy on gatherer (not talking about rank a missions, these are obviously for max gear.) i have pretty big problems on crafter from the very first rank D quest on. now they are somewhat doable but its crazy how long i need for one single craft.
and even when comparing the red alert missions from crafter and gatherer the difference is ridiculous (in equal gear). i can do a LOT of that same gatherer red alert mission in those 20min but barely any crafter ones. trying to reach hq is so frustrating and nq barely gives any points.

Regardless if you want to think I’m a white knight go ahead, if “white knight” means “understand the content and doesn’t blame all their misunderstanding on the content” then I guess it’s a pretty apt title for me.

If you decide down the line that you would actually like advice to make your life easier (because let’s face it even if you “win” this little argument with me; which you aren’t; it’s not going to suddenly make cosmic better because the problem is you, not the content in this case) then I’m sure you haven’t burned enough bridges on here for someone to actually offer you help. It won’t be me because you’ve spurned my help at every turn while pretending my help is some kind of backhanded insult of you but I’m sure someone else will be willing to help

The main thing I'm concerned about is if/how they're going to change things up in the future exploration zones because if it's just more of the same but with different scenery and maybe some new mech ops missions that's not going to be particularly engaging (And it's not terribly engaging to begin with).

I still gotta say, two fates is kinda... wild... I do not dislike the content too much, but between the time limits (they suck, no need for them) and the super boring fates... it would not kill em to do at least 5-6 different ones lol

I kinda wish it was bad. Everyone's doing it so much all the rewards are going for dirt cheap.

are u sure? I once got solo inside, all u need is just to queue in first 15 minutes.

You're a white knight because you're pretending like I'm the only one who thinks Cosmic Explorations sucks for gatherers when there are people here, on Reddit, and streamers who are all saying the same things.

And it's not a placebo effect, it's simply how it worked. Zero successes vs a few successes. It's not like I was succeeding a few times in the old gear and then continued to succeed a few times with the Cosmic Explorations gear. Literally zero successes until I got the new gear.

There is no advice you could give to me or anyone else in this game because you can't even acknowledge when the game itself is the problem. You are not helpful in any way and are one of the people who actively drive people away from this game. You are part of the problem with FFXIV.

I'm sure. You can only register for the boat every two hours, the quest marker doesn't even show up to register more than that, and I've waited 20 and 30 minutes before and the instance never spawned.

Trust me, if I could do Ocean Fishing more, I would.
