What Yoshi's doing is unknown to you and me, all you and i are doing is purely speculating from a vague interviews that will not cover what is coming v2.0 until we plays it.

Yes it is possible but will they do it? If we look back a what they say and actually do we players pretty much know this wont happen. A good example is the WAR nerf, but what did they do vs what they could have done. When they actually do finally fix something it normally ends up in a nerf instead of bring up (in this case) other jobs to match and or mobs to match. SE and the Dev's cant strike a balance on anything. Another example is the drop rates and lock outs, there are plenty of examples but yet this company cant be counted on to fix things properly so that its balanced. The Dev's tend to go from 1 extreme to another, but they keep missing the mark.

The graphics will remain pretty the same, technically speaking. But the general impact will be better with a finally good shadow/lightning engine and improved shaders around.
Well you're allowed to think what you want, but S.E. will of course refuse to acknowledge a downgrade. And as long as they improve the shadow system, they can waive off any reduction to poly count or textures as a necessary compromise.
Anyways, SE also said there would be roaming primals in 2.0 ... and look how that turned out. lol.
He is simply confusing the term "Optimization" for "Looks better than 1.0"
In reality, the optimization will allow lower end systems to run the game, while still allowing the mid and upper end systems to play on a better graphics level.
For thise crying about that screenshot. We kniw full well SE has a bad habbit of taking shots on low settings, then again your just looking for something to nitpick so it doesn't matter to you.
Aren't we all forgetting about levequests.
I'm pretty sure that Yoshi-P mentioned in the past that those would stay around. This is also another form of a quest. Perhaps he's also trying to bring back the time where we all grouped together and spammed those levequests. But I'm guessing that the levequests will be different this time around and more engaging.
At least, this is what I hope... If they leave them untouched. It will just be another snorefest grinding experience all over again.

I doubt the new pic is the engine at it's best/highest availible quality graphic settings, here hoping to very detailed graphic setting options(draw distance, shadow draw distance, etc)
I can take a lower poly count for better textures (ala FF12 & Vagrant Story), but lower everything would blow.
I don't care about graphics I really don't.
What does worry me however that all screenshots of this forest look exactly alike and they all have the one big tree copied in the background.
1.0 areas had a big problem of completely mundane uninspired design that featured a lot of copied assets.
Are they really replacing the big copy pasted trees of the forest with another set of copy pasted trees?
The concept art of XIV in famitsu feature for example has all kinds of unique landmarks like bridges and odd looking epic cliffs. You know stuff with imagination that SE is so good at. Please SE put some fantasy in this fantasy.
If we want to look at a realistic desert there's literally dozens of games that do it already and frankly a bit better too.
Play to your strenghts SE to make this game stand out.

I don;t think the Trees are Copied pasted, and the trees are in different places not in a Particular order that makes you feel like " Oh wasn't I here before?" when I'm really at a different place. I don't feel that way in any of the Screenshots.
Gameplay to come on 17th-18th and a tons more screenshots I'm sure. We will see what happens :p.
Well the idea of gameplay is to... Fight within the game :P. You'll see that more likely than Housing and a Really Hugs Dragon. However, if they want to catch everyone's attention, they have to show more than just "Gameplay related" stuff. This is a Marketing Campaign after all. It's there big chance to throw this out into the world, they don't just have 1 or 2 hours this time, they have 2 full days to get their Point a crossed!
So, there may be a high chance they many Show Housing or a Really Huge Dragon, they need to generate the gameplay hype, and I have faith in them!
Well they can fight the Dragon.. idc.. as long as i see a Dragon. XD

I like the "OOOOOH"-Effect you can get with certain images.
I think they will Surprise us with a lot of goodies, they basically have FFXIV: ARR the game itself done at this point, so if they wanted too they could should us a little display of each area.. Generate that hype, make people think: " This is FFXIV? I thought it was dead in 2010, and now it looks FRIGGEN AWESOME" These new things will most likely Generate Hype:
1) New Jobs
2) Show off the New maps ( and not just 1 area like 3 areas will do at least)
3) Show off the New UI ( This is the Biggest one in my opinion) because for 1 this is the one most talked about and a Great UI= Players will surely come knocking on SE's game on this trait alone.
4) Show More Screenshots of the "New areas" that aren't known to us like those Ruins for Instance.. that's new in my book and I'm excited and can't wait to go in there =).
5) Show all new Races coming in 2.0
6) Show off the New Character Creation
7) Show off New Music! ( My Favorite can't wait)
8) Don't hold anything back on Interviews give them all you got!
9) Show the Waterfall Area that has a Curved Tree Branch acting like a Bridge! ( this is just my personal self wanting to see this.. Doesn't it remind you of a Past FF game say... FF9? :D

If they can accomplish all of these then I'm 99.9% sure that this will generate the hype this game needs.
These things will just come natural when Showing Gamplay:
1) New Graphics engine
2) New Network system

SE you are not nintendo...haha nintendo can take something that sounds weird/kinda bad but then when they actually release it Miyamoto makes it extremely fun! I guess I am just hoping the game does not turn into wow or aion as far as leveling goes. It might not...there is still hope :o I hope they are innovative with this idea...Quote:

In almost every screen you posted except the second fron the top. Also visible in the op pic and mooglemail pic.

When I said they feel alive, I mean the way they look.. doesn;t seems like there's no try that you can't get to. In FFXIV 1.0 there are trees in the background that you can't get to.
From the way it looks like for the ARR Screenshots.. it looks like you can get to any tree ( If you can move in the FOrest like there's trees all around you then Gridania will be a happy place for me. Sure 1.0 looks nice.. but I always wanted to weave in between trees. :P
I think one of the element i can see is that the general color palette seems 'warmer' than 1.0 (especially the miqote SS with flowers around)). More similar to FF11 this time.
Maybe he mean every tree with a log thicker than a roegadyn on a chocobo.
But it is not uncommon to find in a forest more than 1 tree of the same kind. If you enter a forest and see an oak, the chance is high that you find other oaks, too.
