Pray to the Twelve that a few months down the road we won't see another post about how we misinterpreted it and how he really meant something like this when he said vanity only.....
I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous. If we remove from you every single piece of loot that is "just" vanity and tell you to buy them it wouldn't fly well with you would it? I bet your inventory is full of them and you have spent some time acquiring them. Why exactly are you people pretending Vanity is something completely worthless and not really part of the game?
Dude, I'm not even at 50 and I'm a huge Vanity man... and I still have very little reason to care about the Cash Shop not one bit and it will stay that way since plenty of the gear in the game already has given me enough options to make the characters dress how I want them to.
Mmm... its less about defending the idea and more about defending myself because I am ok with the idea ne?
Personally I am not buying anything from the cash shop because not a single one of those items appeal to me. But Why should I get in the way of others?
Maybe one day they will release an item I like and yes I will buy it. Because I will not begrudge spending money on my hobby, on something that makes me happy and thus supporting the progression of the game and the company.
Now... to be fair, if they decided to completely get rid of the Veteran reward system and replace it with a cash shop... well I would be against it completely!!!
But as it is I will not go off on a emotional rampage because of a 'What if' or a overzealous example ''If we remove from you every single piece of loot that is "just" vanity'' indeed.
I prefer to discuss the reality at hand and the fact is we now have a cash shop with a small handful of vanity items... that is all.
I think it depends on what is being put up for sale. One thing people forget permanently is that the subscription fee is LOWER than it was back when Ultima Online came out. Heck, I paid 22 Euro / 28 USD for my Meridian 59 subscription, PER MONTH, Ultima Online, back in 1997, was 15 USD per month. Adjusted for inflation that is 22 USD by 2014 standards.
So everything is getting more expensive, MMOs are not? If we'd be willing to pay 20 USD a month for the sub, this wouldn't be needed... who would subscribe for 20 USD? No one? Well, then they gotta make money in different ways...
Seriously people, start to be a bit more realistic here. If they only sell past event items or an odd mount here or there, that's fine, if it ends up like EQ2 where, without paying for cash shop items, you will look extremely boring and generic, then that's bad. Now seriously, let the cash shop come and see how bad it is before you put a burning cross in Squeenix' yard.
Well a minion is £3.50 compared to like the £10-12 Blizzard charge for theirs. I'm okay with that.
I am very sad that they include mounts and minnions in cashop ... we already pay a sub thoes items should be avaible ingame. if they make it so you can obtain the mounts minnions through playing the game (just like seasonal events or simply rare drops from a fight think about some dungeon minnions and primal mounts) then im fine with it but if its cashop only then im strongly against and it makes me very sad.
pay to play that is why we pay a sub...for the right to use a platform to play a game that was originally build in a certain way (this is not static) nobody forces you to buy anything that is in the cash shop, it is there IF you choose to, nothing to be upset about
pay to win this is the worst case it is when stuff is in the shop that gives you incredible advantage in game which is where we will be heading soon in my opinion give it time another year, it will be progressive, is a market technic.
free to play, is never totally free or at least not for long. I would NEVER EVER want this to happen to FFXIV, I have seen the damages done to another game, nice game I loved it until it became obvious that without spending hundreds of real money you could not advance.
This a game, you choose to play, a game is meant to be fun, ify ou dont like it just leave, it doesnt matter IF SE likes to see people leave of not, it is more important to understand that your pleasure or fun is what matters not IF SE will like or dislike the fact that people are leaving because of their poor choices.
A game is fun until it lasts, once it ceases to be fun is time to go...pretty simple equation in my books....not sure why there are so many pages of complains about something that is for now nothing short of anything that can annoy anyone in game...
Just me though
Mei
I'm okay with XP boost, being able to buy more allowances for leves and daily quests etc. But when it comes to minions, mounts and glamour items... it's disgusting really, we are paying a monthly fee already, a P2P is not supposed to have a cashshop, i don't care if the mount cost 1$, it's about principle. There are still so many ways to implement a way to obtain items like minions and mounts... why spoil it and let people get it just like that. i wouldn't mind if it was B2P or F2P.. SE is pretty much slapping all of us in the face and telling us that they need our money, i would rather just donate it.
This really isn't all that bad, guys. It'll add certain glamour sets, mounts, and minions to the game. It's not like they're selling i130 weapons in the shop, or level 50 job boosts. Blizzard does this for WoW as well, and it doesn't have even the slightest negative impact on the game.
It's just more ways for you to support SE for the hard work they put into the game for us. It's all optional, and it will in no way give anyone an advantage. Who knows, maybe they'll release a few things in the cash shop that you might be interested in purchasing yourself.
Maybe this CS thing finally allows SE to put some actually cool looking items in game for vanity, like those kind of things that doesnt fit as drops due lore(like clouds outfit that someone mentioned). Would love to see Lights "valkyrie" armor from XIII-2 so i could finally change my PLD's Valor armor for something else that still fits in class "theme" :3
I for one support the cash shop.
The items being added are purely for vanity and cosmetic reasons, they stated they would not make the shop pay2win.
They won't be adding classes/jobs areas or dungeons to the cash shop so I don't see the problem
The pre-order, collector's edition, and soundtrack minions cost extra money over the regular game too.
Unless I see non-cosmetic items/perks start popping up, my only problem against the cash shop is that the minions are a bit expensive for what they are.
At $5 a pop, if you buy a mere 4 minions, you've already dropped $20.
$2 a pop is a more reasonable price I think.
Minus the minions/mount they are available in game. (or were??) Last Halloween....
Now we have gotten so far as to bring an expansion into this?? LOL
What, you want everything for free I assume? Stop being a cheaparse
Oh, so because a couple Halloween costumes, minions, and 1 mount mean that only parts of the game are available.
LOOK OUT GUYS, HYPERBOLE EXTREME TOO STRONG!
Yes, because 4 Halloween items totally cover 99% of all crafts..
I mean at least you guys are going to the total extremes in your posts so its really really easy to smell the bs
It literally does not work... you don't have to pay anything. You lose nothing by not getting stuff from the shop.
bye!
This just in RMT approved by SE as long as its for vanity.
Now let me just go and buy that 3 million gil I need for that super cute blue bird minion I really want. Its ok because its not game breaking its just for vanity.
And for all you people who are saying they have jobs to do and kids with mouths to feed, so do the RMTs. They might really need that 10 bucks so we should be supportive and selfless in helping them out. Right Right;)
I don't really have a problem with the cash shop for vanity items. I will be first in line if they put the blue bird on it. I just think its funny how there are double standards about it. I'm sure the people all gung ho, super white knighting it are the first to complain about RMTs being bad/wrong. It doesn't matter who the seller is the end result is still the same. In game items for real money.
This is outright wrong, you are lying to yourself.
Take a look at the announced Odin mount (which is exclusive to the cash shop according to the Live Letter announcement last night)
At some point during the development process of either the mount or the trial the question must have been raised - Do we make this a drop, similar to the Extreme Primal mounts? Or do we put it into a cash shop?
This question WILL have come up during the development process. They have clearly chosen the route that will yield them money as opposed to the more fairer for all option.
We are losing things because of the cash shop. Content that otherwise would have had a direct method of being obtained in game is now being sold to us.
I must of misunderstood it when my friend told me. I thought it was $5 for 4..which seemed reasonable to me. But $5 for a minion? I'm good..someone else will buy. Not like I notice what minion people have anyways. Simple solution for me, I want minion, but I don't want to pay $5..so I don't pay and don't get it...game keeps on rolling.
Maybe if you had any proof of said items shown that would of been obtainable in game then i'd probably agree, but youre going over too much speculation here.
- The Slepinir horn was found in the DB, correct. however there was no stated drop or use for it, now we know its a cash shop item to get said mount as well as a purely cosmetic feature, its not faster in any way.
- The minions are purely cosmetic outside of battle and have no effect on anything
- Event items were once obtainable in game but now are available to those who missed said event, youre probably thinking "well they were and should be exclusive to the event"... My girlfriend did ALL the anniversary quests and events available and didnt get the "Huzzah" Emotion.. So in a way it helps those who didnt get these items for whatever reasons. + again, purely cosmetic.
+ As said in the live letter, it doesn't give ANY advantage to ANY player. they're there purely for cosmetics which is why im defending it, if it had boosts and such then i'd beannoyed due to it being P2P (Pay 2 Play). This kinda system is on ALOT of P2P MMO's, heck i believe in WoW you can buy mounts and stuff to show-off. in most free MMO's its a PW2 (Pay 2 Win) Service which is what breaks them since people buy expensive gems/gear and automatically get high up in the player base for it.
This system works, it helps out SE for all costs across their board (and lets be honest, the items cost less than a fantasia as far as we've seen. £3.50 at most)
If you wanted to complain about anything, why not the extra retainers? i mean cmon, more chances at rare dyes? someone call the fashion police.
TL;DR - Don't like it, don't use it.
What tells you that they would have taken the time and ressources to make the Sleipnir mount and other vanity stuff if it was not for the Cash Shop?
You're assuming that some stuff will be created, and then they will ask themselves the question about putting it in the cash shop. You're completly ignoring the possibility of the question being asked the other way around: "We will have a Cash Shop. What should we create to fill it?"...
... But yeah, let's all jump into the "Ewwww! what a bunch of greedy as***les! They're cutting off content from us!" bandwagon. It's the mainstream reaction to have nowadays.
How long before hairstyles are put into the cashshop... Or *shudder* lockboxes added? What they've said will be there is only what they're starting with, and bit by bit more things will be added.
This makes me very sad =(
Y'all are a bunch of crybabies.
Holy uninformed, Batman!
The Odin mount has been in the game since before 2.0 even launched, how do we know?

This image was taken from the Blog Post they made when they were developing Odin, because of how Odin appears as the character that previously defeated it, a scalable mount model was needed and already made and added in game. No extra development time was used in making it.
Now, we have the Urth's Fount battle confirmed to be released some time before the expansion. During the development process of Urth's Fount, when deciding drops and what not, the discussion of whether or not to make the mount a drop similar to the Extreme mounts will have happened, this is a fact, because it's how development works.
It's absurd that you people are defending such business practices that remove content from the majority of players especially while so uninformed.
No cash shop is one of reasons why I love FFXIV more than other MMOs. I really dont think that cash shop is neccessary for them and I am afraid that they will put things in it which should be obtainable trough normal means (like crafts etc, why should we buy vanity items? We should craft them)
ok jimmy you obviously dont understand. let me break it down real easy-like.
You bought a dollhouse(ffxiv)
you bought the Doll(subfee)
You buy all the nifty things for your doll(cash shop) none of that's wrong, but SE adding a cash shop for vanity is? cmon man seriously.
Because mounts are so useful in this game. It's not like we can teleport to every zone in the game, or anything. I literally go weeks without even seeing my mount.
Also, they'll be developing specific items for the cash shop. They aren't sitting over there flipping a coin to decide what ends up in the cash shop or in-game as a drop. You're the one lying to yourself if you think having an optional cash shop is going to limit you in any way.
As long as it doesn't affect game play I'm all for it. Its just glamour/mounts etc its a smart business move on their part.
The only thing that bothers me is my gf has no control when it comes to buying stuff from a cash ship :(
