The thank you for a game like this is paying a monthly subscription for multiple years. I kinda already handed them my wallet :3

Looks good to me. Wasn't expecting anything epic for the first dungeon release since the combat system still needs to be tweaked and we're still at 50 cap. Personally I'm happy with the 60 minute limit. We have 4 more dungeons coming our way over the next few patches and, again, this is 50 cap. No reason to do a 3hr event when a year down the road the cap will be raised. I'm hoping that the lockout is rather short and is on a different timer for the differing level dungeons. This way you could run through the 50 dungeon then go through later on the 30 on a lowbie class. I expect the 'boss' for the 30 dungeon to be a reskin but hoping they do us a solid with a 'new' model for the rank 50 boss mob.
The 30 dungeon will probably be very easy but it's a great source of content for lowbies to run through. With rank 25 being very easy to get, being a new player and playing for a couple days(or one day) you can experience your first dungeon pretty quickly, making the game seem a lot more fun. Hopefully they'll add in some more stuff around this rank to hook new players.
Exp wise, I hope the dungeons offer some decent xp since it would be a welcomed change from grinding or doing leves. Doesn't have to be anything great, but a steady flow of xp while you do a dungeon would go a long way in reducing the grind.
MODS: really need to go through these threads and start banning people. Half of this thread is a handful of people bitching at each other, no where near on topic. To those people: No one cares about you. We're here to discuss the game. Someone has a differing opinion than yours? Get over it and move on, don't drag it out here flooding the thread with useless junk so that our 'feedback' gets lost in the process.
This is the General Discussion forum, feedback is located elsewhere ^_^ Also, they aren't really listening. They have a plan and will execute it as they see fit. If they were listening then many of the same things you don't want to hear complaining about you wouldn't hear complaints about :p as much of the feedback is repeats from Alpha.
Our only really option is to wait...more...patiently/impatiently and then decide as they update if the game is for us or not.
Yes, of course they have to use ALL new mobs, right? Because we already know that there won't be any new mobs in the raid dungeons, right?
No, not really. Actually the texture style is the only thing those two pictures have to do with the current zones (and actually only in the gridania one). Get some better glasses mate.Quote:
Same zones re-textured.
You mean like every single MMORPG developer out there does? Oh the infamy...Quote:
Same gear re-textured.
Yep, to make by the book trolls and whiners happy they should make the dungeons in real life and fly them there.Quote:
I have gotten used to SE doing with with XI but I honestly expected more, especially with the game in so much trouble at it's current state....
For those commenting on how gear is mostly "palette swaps"... it's not just that exactly.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc0ilSksWBQ
They disable/enable certain features of gear to make one piece dynamic from another. Canvas Doublet Vest, for example, doesn't have the apron that Velveteen Doublet Vest has. Velveteen Hat has the crow feather plume over the bare Canvas Hat. It's part of their way to keep their already-made detailed models from being ABSOLUTELY the same by giving them little variations IN ADDITION to the color swaps. Whether or not this has the intended effect is... debatable.
Obviously (as seen with mini-NM drops) they certainly CAN make new gear and who knows, they may have already done so for the dungeons.
And for as similar Toto-Rak (30) might look, I can say for certain that Darkhold (50) is not just a re-texture.
Fanboys v Trolls should be the next mmo.
There's so much cynicism on these boards these days. What's especially bad about it is that it's almost entirely self afflicted. People seem to expect the game to change overnight with a single patch. They get their hopes up beyond anything SE can realistically reach and when they don't deliver a world changing experience people rage. Even in the midst of their cynicism people STILL bank too much on single patches. I know we're all very impatient and really want the game to become something we'd gladly hand over our cash to experience, but you all have to realize this doesn't happen with just a single patch. There is no quick save. It's something that comes with time. I know just saying this won't stop people from expecting the world by tomorrow, but it's still just remarkably unhelpful to have that mentality.
Anyways, on topic I'm not surprised that they re-used monster models or weapon and armor models. For one they have a backlog of unimplemented equipment so why not use that rather than waste time creating whole new things, ignoring previous work done. Especially considering all the gameplay mechanics they're actively tweaking. Same for the dungeons considering the rank 45+ has been in-game for a while now. Why not use the assets already in place, it's not like they took something we can already experience and just copy/pasted it. Of course it's also silly, as others have said, to infer so much from two simple screen shots. There are no details on how the dungeons play out, no shots of the bosses or how they behave, or really anything beyond probably the first part of the dungeon and entry conditions. I'm not saying it all belies some AMAZING content, but it's not really helpful for anyone, especially yourselves, to rag on the dungeons based on so little. Really we should wait, experience them, and offer HELPFUL feedback rather than rants.
Oh well, sorry for the length. I'm especially interested in the comment of "fulfilling certain conditions within the area" along side killing enemies and finding treasure chests. I'm hoping that we'll have some interesting variety.
For me, there's 2 parts to my excitement, or lack thereof. It's natural to feel underwhelmed, certainly just by the very short preview it all looks underwhelming. Nothing looks new there from a graphical standpoint so the cool-factor is already low, and usually to sell something some of the best is displayed to garner attention, and that makes me wonder if it's more copy/paste armor.
You can't really blame some of us for feeling underwhelmed given what was shown. Of course i'll still be here, I'll continue to be optimistic despite having my occasional doubts. If the battle system is adjusted and fun, I can only imagine these dungeons will be pretty damn exciting to play as well, so I'm really looking forward to seeing how everything in this patch will turn out.

Not going to speculate on anything until they're ingame or more detailed info is out. Doing otherwise is pointless.
Can easy blame some trolls that continue to say "same dugeons retextured", when it's obviously not true to anyone that has eyes. The environments shown in the areas have no equivalent in the current dungeons.
And if you feel underwhelmed for two low resolution sneak peek pictures, then it's self-inflicted, as someone already said.

Welcome to your new dungeon.
But yeah, it's all about how it plays, hopefully we get some insight soon.
We absolutely have seen what they look like already, and that particular dungeon layout shows up at least twice in various blocked off areas currently.
But is it helpful and right for people to keep making excuses for the developers? They set up the expectations to an extent. Do some people go overboard and hype themselves up too much, yes. But you cannot place the blame solely on the playerbase. The development cycle for the game was long, it was the companies choice to release it in such a state and for that they open themselves up to criticism. It was SE's choice to cut beta short and release early. They are not following through on their own time tables that THEY set up, not us. They are also not following through on smaller promises like new quests with each patch.
You cannot blame only the loud forum people for their cynicism and bad word of mouth. SE did develop the game...seeing as we are still playing many of us are still holding out for hope, but this is also SE we all know since the merger they haven't exactly had a good run with producing quality product and fulfilling promises.
Welcome to being wrong.
The area shown in that movie..
1: looks nothing like what's shown in the pictures
2: is not in any way near camp dragonhead.
So no, we saw absolutely nothing of the new dungeons besides two low resolution pictures that look nothing like the current dungeons.
Next please.
It's not "making excuses". It's debunking silly, baseless assumptions made of nothhing and biased to the extreme.
And yes, that's quite helpful by definition.
I agree with the video being wrong and not judging the dungeon layout itself til it comes out or we get more SC's. But, it's not debunking because that requires scientific evidence or minimal deviation of pattern. The pattern is thus: announcement of big change, patch that implements change, no additions or tweaks to added content, next big announcement. They have added content, none of which has fundamentally changed the game in anyway and doesn't support much more than a slight deviation from going back to doing leves and behest.
They added sidequests that are unsupported by content beyond rank 10 and NM's that are soloable by any high level mage. That really is all they added: they tweaked leves, anima, rewards, market wards to be more like an auction house ....sort of it but no changes that really mean anything. The pattern is lack of focus and continued implementation and support of added features so far.
Certainly SE is to blame for the current state of the game. They rushed it out and didn't really listen to beta testers. However how are they now, after all that has occurred, after the development team was shuffled around in a very public way, to blame for the way people behave? They've made fairly detailed posts on what they plan to do in the future and even go on to mention how they have no set time tables for several of those developments. They reveal things as they're ready to be and occasionally put out things to wet the appetites of the rabid fanbase, but as far as I know they've never played off any patch, any development, as something utterly game saving. Everything has been put out as a small step to some ultimate goal. Not everything they do is gold, sure, but they aren't entirely to blame for the roller coaster of hype and disappointment that so many on these boards seem to go through time and time again.
I don't think SE is infallible. I have my own doubts about how well they can implement change in this game. I do, however, try to be sympathetic to their position and the amount of work that's laid out before them. I want to see this game succeed and as such am willing to offer feedback and attempt to stave off any emotional and baseless ranting against literally everything SE does. The amount of SE bashing I've seen lately just bothers me. The fanbase is like an abusive boyfriend at times and it makes no sense to me. ._.
When someone does a stupid thing, you call them on it.
You don't keep calling them on it for the rest of their life.
is it just me or do the dungeons and armor look familiar?
he didnt link the right one, but i did see the right one in some other thread with a taru. I like the look of the dungeon, but its not like they made it new, they just populated/unlocked it. And thats fine its still somewhat new. new mobs would have been nice but i wont be surprised if it contains nothing thats not already in the client
finally, mages getting our first r50 endgame weapon
still wanna see another endgame gears for mages (lame vintage robes are not count)
It's debunking because the pictures showed look nothing like the dungeons we are currently playing on. Ergo the usual, baseless and biased whines have no reason to be.
The pattern you're describing is your own, personal interpretation, and has really little to do with realistic game development.
The SE bashing isn't just in the forums and it;s not JUST because of FFXIV. It is in every major gaming medium. Since the merger anything not Dragon Quest has been a flop with the exception of remakes. This is a series of mistakes that have disenchanted people so it is not baseless saying that they will disappoint because they keep disappointing. As a major corporation they deserve no sympathy, they are in this to make money and they don't feel bad when they release something sub-par to us. I offer constructive non-emotional whiney feedback in the proper forums. but that doesn't we can't also voice disappointment/joy/concern of which I do.
Ex: Dungeons = yay
New Gear = yay
New Battle system = Well, could be fun but I don't like having to relearn my job and all the new ways the skills will be because basically what we have now is a placeholder til they finish testing whatever they have. But I better look cute in the BLM outfit they posted months ago.
Let's look at the word "guild". In a typical "Western" MMO, a guild is a group of players sharing common goals. In FFXIV, a guild is an organization of craftspeople devoted to promoting and regulating a specific craft skill. In the real world, a guild is a group of craftspeople devoted to promoting and regulating a specific trade.
Definition 2 actually fits very well- a sudden attack on the enemy by a small land force. The nature of a raid is to accomplish a specific objective, and the attackers generally go in, do what they're there to do, and get out.
Because FFXIV is developed in a different language, we shouldn't expect what we consider standard MMO terminology to apply. Instead, what we have is words that had been co-opted by earlier MMOs being used with their original meanings as a consequence of translation.
The same could be said about your debunking. The pattern is not my own interpretation, it is there in game currently as proof....we have had a few patches since then and they have not improved on those things. The most ridiculous thing is we both want the game to succeed: you just don't want to be "mean" to SE because you feel bad. I praise their work, but I can also recognize and have no issues with saying aloud that specific areas need improvement and that additions need to be continuously fleshed out/fixed before adding in to many new things that require just as much if not more commitment.
MMO dictionary
RAID = multi-parties
The heads of the corporation perhaps but how can you justify saying no one at SE takes any pride in their work? I can't with 100% assurance say you're wrong but why make that assumption? Why treat them as if they have no hope of ever pleasing you if at the same time you want them to?
Anyways, I haven't played a lot of classic Square or Enix games and I've enjoyed the recent releases well enough. They weren't works of the century sure but did I have fun? Yeah. XI especially was incredibly fun as far as I'm concerned. So perhaps our difference of opinion is just based on our history with the company. I still think they are capable of making a game I enjoy.
You can be weary of future developments based on the track record you're familiar with; however, that does not justify baseless hate or blaming SE for setting your own expectations too high.
How so? You can't offer constructive criticism to someone but not feel bad for their situation? I don't feel sorry for the company pushing this to market. But seeing as I want the game to be enjoyable and I am an un-paid beta tester I am giving the the feedback they requested. If they so choose to not take the feedback, that is ok. Once they launch the subscription model I will leave if it is unenjoyable. That is not to say in order to make it enjoyable they must listen to me and only me. I have read other suggestions and fixes that seem just as entertaining, even some that are in their planned layout.
However if the game causes them to go bankrupt, like it is currently, I won't lament.
It's just a dungeon. They don't need unique models for something so small that exists in vanilla. If it was in a brand new area, yeah it better have new models, but they're merely utilizing areas that weren't accessible too us yet.
The Evangela Dictionary of Personal Beliefs.
Not untrue, SE released a statement to share holders stating that they have had severe losses and will continue to do so if they don't show stronger support for console games and garner revenue for "certain online services" So much that they also demanded each of the companies they own create at least 1 new IP in the next year. As for being constructive. This specific forum "General Discussion" is not for that. It is simply for us to discuss things. Any constructive feedback I have goes in the correct forum for it. Just as I did during closed beta testing.
Hi All,
I think from a "1st Impression" point-of-view, SE really screwed up on this (and I'm pulling for them!). The 1st Screenshot you show of your 2 "New Raid Dungeons!" - the content your remaining playerbase is super excited about - and you show Re-Used Textures and Re-Used Monsters, along with Re-Textured, Copied Items? :(
That being said, I'm hoping for the best. I agree with Shura's thoughts here (well said!). :)
I hope we'll see New Monsters and Interesting, Exciting Areas within. As Yoshida-san said, they need another 2 - 3 weeks (final Art Touches / Polish, etc.?), so perhaps the New Monsters / Newer, Interesting Sections of the Dungeons aren't ready yet? And maybe they wanted to give us *some* kind of information now, since so many on the forum have been demanding some information?
Given that, I think the 60 minute Time Limit seems OK, if they make it so there are Alternate Routes, Different Sections of the Dungeon to Conquer.
In the original version of Dynamis-Xarcabard (early years), there was no way you could battle through Dynamis-Xarcabard to get all the Attestations (of Celerity, Might, etc.), as well as kill Shadow Lord. There were different NMs / sections of Dynamis to conquer, and you repeated it to get more drops, rewards, Beastmen Currency, etc. You had different goals and areas to challenge if you were helping your friends get an Attestation vs. killing Shadow Lord, etc.
And as Shura said, Promyvion also had similar setups, so it's not just 1 path, 1 same experience.
It's a bit underwhelming from the screenshots they've shown so far, but I'm holding out hope that it is something like the above. That there are multiple paths / multiple conditions / scenarios / NMs that makes it worth repeating and going back to, again and again.
I still loved going to Dynamis-Xarcabard even on my ~50th time going in. We can only hope that there are some new, original Monsters and Bosses and Challenges within both of these Dungeons, and an over-arching goal that makes this content last for a bit. :)
