But it's really hard to create a large community that interacts without it collapsing into some sort of drama. That's why players tend to form small to medium social groups (though they'll usually belong to more than one group). It's easier to have everyone like-minded in a small group than a large group.

I think a lot of players forget that MMO doesn't mean you have be playing with hundreds of others at the same time in the same activity. It simply means there will be large numbers of players online at the same time that you might encounter and interact with. Trying to force socialization in large groups will end up backfiring. If it actually worked well, it would have long since become a standard of content design.

Giving up FC houses: I don't think it's fair to ask for people to give up their FC house if the devs are the ones screwing up on providing enough housing for people. I'd be in support of any system that doesn't involve that but I'm not going to punish others for the devs being stubborn.

Gardening: Gardening really isn't the golden goose it used to be and I see more people complaining about the selling price of things vs grow time than wishing gardening was more accessible. Switch gardening to submarines because that's where the actual gil is and where the higher demand is (a workshop access in general).

Large communities: My previous FC had about 450ish members and was going 6 years without drama. It exists, just gotta look for it and not automatically place assumptions based on previous negative experiences on others.

As have as much sympathy as anyone for those in bad circumstances due to conflict or disaster. But those things will be going on somewhere in the world 24/7/365, so either have the demo timer or not. It is unfair to people who maintain their subscriptions (like everyone in my family since day one without a break) to let people ride free and keep their houses. I do not necessarily mean those who are in a bad way, but instead those who take advantage of the situation.

This sounds like a good solution, provide both instanced housing and also more wards for those who prefer the ward system and to have actual neighbors.

Everyone wins.

But we both know this wont happen because it would require effort from the devs and that's too much to ask for.

Ideally this is how I want it to be. Hopefully later down the road we get some form of instanced housing.

Many MMO used to be like it. FFXI (at least in the 75 era) endgame was very group centric. WoW in past expansions with endgame / raiding guilds where everyone worked together as a group. EQ in days of old. And there's definitely been a lot more. All groups built around PVE and endgame activities that created bonds between players and groups.

These days everything is so self centred and instant gratification that most connections end up being superficial. One of the reasons many people don't raid on the NA side is because statics are too much hard work. Endlessly having to replace people and start over because that 1 guy got his clear and left everyone else behind.

In this game I've often said there's a deliberate attempt to prevent players from building groups and making strong connections. You can see it in all the little things the game does. Can't send /t or talk to people when younor they are in a duty. Group size for content is so restrictive 4 8 or gtfo. So when 6 of you want to do something together your screwed.

Even the msq. You cannot progress this quest because you are in a party. Even when everyone in that party is on the exact same point of the exact same quest. It's an MMO let people ay with friends rather than force them to play alone..

One of the reasons I don't play many MMOs of late is because they're all basically just trash single player games.

Even this one. Yoshi wants to pull in players of the single ayer final fantasys bit everything players loved about single ayer final fantasy doesn't exist here. Interesting jobs. Interesting combat. Debuffs enfeeblements. Elemental wheels. Diverse mob types making them interesting to fight.. yada yada.

A lot of people who left from WoW or other games and all went to FF either went back to wow or just stopped playing mmo's entirely, some stick to FF but the game in its actual state is an absolute bore, none of the systems are great. FF is a good game to chill in, but that's really it.

PvE is terrible, the combat is horrible, boring. All the mechanics are taken from other tiers and replaced with a different appearance.

PvP let's not even talk about it, not worth the time.

Housing well yeah, not much to say, the system is absolutely horrible in every possible way.

Islands were a big feature, and ended up as a failure for a lot of people because of how boring it is.

The only thing that I personally find more fun in FF than WoW is professions, having actual spells, HQ etc is a lot more fun than just 1 button to craft something, but that's really all it has to it, and the fact it's more "chill".

I wont lie, I did feel like my CHANCES were MUCH higher clicking placards vs lottery, simply because it was absolutely horrible & 90% of the player base did not want a house bad enough to subject themselves to the torture lolol

I got my first house placard clicking. I clicked for days upon days upon days on many homes before finally winning one

(the worst were the ones that you clicked for HOURS, then some GRRRbag would saunter up & buy a relocation, like right towards the end of prime clicking time /cry - at least they eventually got rid of relocations, that was simply cruelty to people who were trying to get their first house)

Lottery it frustrating & disappointing week after week - i've been trying to upgrade to a med or large and honestly doubt it will EVER happen. They almost never are available to bid on in the first place, then when there are you're bidding against multiple hundreds of people.

The Lottery system itself is not a horrible design, it does exactly what it's supposed to do.
The lack of housing IS poorly designed. There is just not nearly enough for the player base.

Seriously, if you want a house that bad just make your own FC and switch servers. Chances are much better for FC owners and there are still a lot of servers with medium or less population which means there are even less people you need to competed with. Also a FC house is even better than personal because you can add a workshop and addional rooms (you need twinks for that.).

I could have had a big FC house when the lottery started but i decided to stick with my small house. Simply because i put to much work in it and i like the way it looks. So instead furnishing a big mansions from the scratch i just bought some addional rooms with my alts

Both placard spam and lottery systems are bad. Trust me. You DO NOT want to sit there clicking a placard for a day to lose to someone who showed up 2 mins ago and got lucky. You think you're angry now, wait til you see THAT happen to you. The neighborhood housing system was scuffed since day one and a terrible idea. Cute in theory but come on, idk how they didn't see this coming. People have been begging for succor from this terrible housing situation for years and all they do are band aid "fixes" that only serve to anger people more. Instanced housing is the only solution. There is no other way. That or more than half of the playerbase has to come to terms that they will never own a house.

Lottery was never designed to "fix housing." It was designed to stop placard spamming. Problem with placard spamming is that people had to do it for upwards of 23 hours. And we probably had a very high number of people using illegitimate means to continuously spam the placard. Lots of evidence of this was players continual targeting and untargeting the placard after it was already purchased. There'd be dozens of players still there doing it.

Anyone that actually clicked a placard for 12+ would never say it was a superior method.

You place the bid in a few day window. You go play the game (or go outside). You come back in a few days and get your refund. Or maybe in an amazing twist of fate, you actually win. This system is probably better than any system they had before. FCFS benefited those that could login at 5am on patch days and were lucky enough to get in the queue at the right time.

I know this doesn't apply to all players, but I think greed took over for many players. Anyone that had no house during lottery #1 should have been going after the lowest bid plots, which were likely smalls in "lesser" locations. But, if they went for that cherry plot overlooking a garden with the marketboard nearby... that had 2x the number of bids than the lesser plot, then they just set themselves up for disappointment.

I *mostly* agree with you - but... for instance, I am planning a massive roadtrip this summer that is going to be about 3 months long. I'm huge into housing and clicked on god knows how many placards for god knows how many hours to acquire my first one, and got lucky on lottery to relocate to a new one... I do design in game & spend countless hours designing homes for others. I play daily, way too much actually- and a huge chunk of my gameplay revolves around housing/design.

The fact that I'm going to be on a planned hiatus for 3 months, once, in years of playing - shouldn't mean i must forfeit my hard earned house - that is nearly impossible to replace once lost due to limited housing.

If it wasnt a big deal to just win another one, i wouldnt mind forfeiting temporarily & just acquiring another when I return from my trip - but we know its not that easy

Personally, I think auto-demolition should not be a thing as long as the supply is low. Seems counter-intuitive. I'm ok with the idea of inactive players losing their house. However, when they come back, the housing should be there for them. For example, if I went on hiatus, I'd lose my medium. Back I could come back and get a small. Other players could pick up my medium. If that's the way it worked, I'd be all for it. But considering that losing your house essentially means "lose it forever" due to this arbitrary system... I don't think that's how it should be done.

Thats stupid. I mean from there you may as well say anyone who plays 2 hours a day doesn't need a house give its o the person than plays 6 or 8 hours... it's irrelevant.

Players don't have to play everyday hell yoshi repeatedly says it's perfectly fine to take breaks between patches. And that you won't lose anything or be punished for doing so..

I would agree if the game didn't have a ton of FOMO in it. Don't forget your to get your weekly tokens! Have you logged in to finish your beastman tribe quests for the day? My wife and I both used to own larges on malboro and played every day. Then Hurricane Harvey Hit my house and I lost everything. Was living in a "hotel" with my family for over a year with no internet access. Still paid my sub and my wifes during that time. Came back and both houses were gone. Very Depressing -- My wife and I walked away from the game.

Eventually (shortly after spriggan opened) I decided to try to play again and moved my account across the pond to spriggan and was able to snag one of the Very Last larges remaining.

Id love to come back to the NA data centers if they ever opened new servers. Unfortunately, as its not FCFS with new servers, theres no way ill move my account just for a "chance" at a house, when i already have one.

Just some perspective -- I'm not advocating anything either way.

What MMO doesn't have FOMO?

The ironic part is that the FOMO here is far less than it is in most other MMOs. There's no reason to fear that an expansion's worth of content is suddenly going to be unavailable. You'll still be able to get that mount from EX even if it means getting the tokens while other MMOs will leave you at the mercy of 0.5% drop chance each time you kill the boss.

The weird thing about FOMO is everyone misses out on more in life than they get a chance to experience. Why stress over missing out on something ultimately trivial in a game but not on all those other opportunities you're bypassing in life (sometimes because you've chosen to play a game instead)? Accept you're not going to be able to get everything you want and FOMO disappears.

On the other hand, for a game that has worked hard to make certain players have access to content it's very strange that they ignore this one content area considering other games choose a system that makes sure all players have access to it.

Sorry but there's still a war going on. Until that ends auto demo is off. Like it or not.

On round 1 of lottery on a fresh server, you can probably find a guaranteed winning bid for any large plot besides Mist 5/35 or Lavender Beds 28/58. Just wait til the last day of bidding and take your pick.

They definitely should add an npc that enters you into a lottery for ANY house in ANY housing area (depending on the amount of gil you give him). People who want a specific plot can still try their luck with the regular lottery, but some people might just want A house and having to restrict themselves to 1 plot every week or so is ridiculously ineffective...

Question for home owners: if instanced housing was implemented at the cost of whatever house(s) you own being essentially deleted from existence, would you be able to make peace with losing access to your old house(s)? Interested in particular to hear what multiple house owners have to say on the hypothetical.
