[Suggestion] Remove the role restrictions on the YoRHa gear?

People would wear it for a while and then move on to the next new thing. More options means you have a lot of samples to draw from when creating a look, thus giving you more diversity. Not the other way around. Character creation in the game is the perfect example of how restriction leads to homogenization.

Or you know.. just make more lvl1 all class stuff for glamour instead of role/level/ilvl/gender/ps2/ps3/ps4 locking them. Jobs can keep their identity, while we also have more options to create identities for our characters.

Not it isn't. Thinking that restrictions have no place in this game because they are looser in other games however, is. I don't disagree here. I'm all in with the replica route they did with the skypirate set. In fact, they should make a system where you can convert the item you get to a level 1 replica by exchanging it under certain conditions (such as having the required job for it leveled up). This way you only create the replica if you're not gonna use that gear anymore.

I'm not sure if OP's intention is to actually have role restriction removed from the gear, where you can wear the level 80 gear on any class. But if it is, then I'm 100% sure that's a hard no from Yoshi P. No point asking about that.

Here I would disagree. People would wear the same gear set for a couple of days and change to something else. Everyone was wearing Krile and Aymeric outfits when they got first released. Now, you don't see them a lot anymore. The same will happen to every new gear. But! your argument would be true in the case we have very few gear in the game. If we assumed we don't have any gear other than YoRHa gear, then if you removed the restriction, you'd see a lot wearing the gear that everyone thinks looks good. With the restriction, you'd force people to look different. But we don't have this case, you have a lot of options to choose from already, and allowing you to use more will increase diversity in this case. Now people are wearing the 2B bottom just for the butt. If more that looks similar got released, you'd see people using them also instead of 2B alone.

Character creation is an example of how you'd still end up with homogenized looks when you restrict the options to a predetermined faces. Only thing differentiating others is just the hair, skin/eye color and face paintings.

I do agree with this kind of restriction. And yes, I stated before that if they were to implement a system that allows you to glamour other role gear, then they should add a condition that you already have a job that can equip it at the required level. In fact, that would give people more incentive to level other jobs to be able to glamour them. We all know that glamour is the true end game to a lot. It will give even more incentive for others to do old content for that gear.

The "legitimate reasons" seem to be more practical and gear-based. They can't simply unlock the restrictions on this set of gear without redesigning how the glamour system works. To glamour it, you need to be able to equip it, so they can't change it without either making replicas or actually making the gear equippable by all classes.

As for limitations being "boring"? That very much depends on the degree and type of limitations. If one class was actually limited in the number of designs

All roles have a large amount of options to them already, whether you personally like the designs or not.

Yes, removing restrictions would increase the total amount of combinations a person can wear at any time. But that doesn't make the current range boring.

At the same time, I do see an appeal in having gear that is class-locked - not because it restricts you from equipping other gear, but because the inverse is that you can create something unique to that class, and there's a creative challenge in that.

I also like playing around with designs in this way - making costumes that don't look like the role but could only worn by it. eg. Healer knight and stealth healer. Obviously the WHM staff is a bit of a giveaway but even without it, both sets have recognisable healer-only or mage-only gear, at least to someone like me who has a sort of catalogued memory of all the gear you can get from various places.

And even when not trying to subvert it, I prefer to equip something role-appropriate so I think I come up against the restrictions less often.

I also level everything - or intend to over time - and this seems to be how the devs expect people to play. So if I really like something then I'll be able to equip it sooner or later. And I'll just have to find things that I can match with it instead of fretting over the ones I can't.

TL;DR: There are plenty of options even with the restrictions and it's certainly not limited enough to call it boring. They're unlikely to lift the restrictions any time soon so just enjoy the classes you can equip it on, or level a new class if you're desperate.

At the rate we get replica gear, I don't think we'd have it before 7.0 if they did release it at all. These particular sets also may have contract issues since it's a collaboration.

When I glamour, I try to go for something unique. If I use a piece of gear that I a lot of other people wear (like the Craftsman's Singlet or the Rebel Coat, etc.), I try to pair it with other things that might make my outfit stand out from the rest a little more. Role restrictions make this a tad difficult for me when I'm trying to put an outfit together, especially when I'm looking for things that fit mine/my character's personal aesthetics.

Not everyone is going to want to dress the same with restrictions removed, I don't know why people think "homogenizing" things would have this effect. I think that's more of an issue with the restrictions in place.

No, less-restricted options = more opportunities to be unique.

I can turn the argument just as easily and say that in time, restricted gear will get the versions for other roles released. Guaranteed? No. But neither is any combination of gear i decide to put together not being thought up by someone else. The likelihood of two different jobs wearing the same piece of gear does not decrease with lifting restrictions; it increases it. This probability increases exponentially the newer the item is, as is the case with 2B butt. I really don't know any other way how to explain how less is more in this case.

I think I could possibly meet you at this level, and would love if the game currently worked this way. You'd see a healer in a caster set of a certain level and immediately know they earned it as a caster at that level, and you would have to do the same if you want your own healer to wear it. Unfortunately, they would have to rework current systems the game uses. Like I said before, it's much easier for them to just release new sets that copy those designs. As long as they are dyeable, they should suffice for the most part, and sometimes look even better than the original versions.

I can sorta see a valid argument for not being able to glamour weapons onto other classes because who knows how that'd work, imagine seeing a dragoon using monk weapons or a white mage wielding ninja knives, haha.

But seriously there's no real argument against them just going in and commenting out the parts of code that check whether the glamour you're applying is for an equipment you can currently use. If you have an item you should be able to glamour it, straight up. The only argument anyone's levied against that is 'well I don't like it :(' or 'reducing player freedom is good actually??' or some nonsense about that the two to four artifact sets each job has somehow constitutes both a job AND role identity that must be protected at all costs.

Even IF this worst-case fear mongering about them designing less sets because of a lack of restrictions comes true, isn't that what they're doing anyway half the time? Tank sets sharing with dragoon sets? Caster sets sharing with healer sets? 'Oh no, we only get four armor designs instead of seven, which matters a lot more to me personally even though I can now use all four of them as I see fit instead of just being locked into one for the role I'm playing'

They're straight up not going to have to redesign the entire code base or equipment system or whatever just to make it so that every job counts as every other job for the purposes of glamour exclusively.

I don"t get the people saying "I don't want the restriction lift because of homogenization.

If YOU don't want to use a glamour from another role, great, stick to the ones that have your job stat, thus were design with the "job identity" in mind and let the ones that want freedom have that fredom.

Agreed with this idea BUT....they would have to do the job twice then so.....why not just rework the system and lift restriction instead of coding the same piece 2 times ?
It would be a lot of work to change the way stuff works but, on the other hand investing the time now in this ould save some more later, considering they would not have to make the same piece again and again.

Not to mention they already did it before, with HG lvling craft gear you can glamour over every job, being DoH or DoW

i really don't see the problem especially the "homogenize" argument most the player base already jumps from one new glam to the other,
like most are wearing the ishgard restoration glamor before that it just map glamor,2b etc etc opening up gear
especially if its just the yorha gear isn't gonna make it worse

glam your character how you want them and let other people glam how they want them

I just want to say that I love the responses in this thread, whether for or against it! Thank you all for participating and bringing your arguments/counter-arguments to the table.

A quick digression but I saw people mentioning the Plague Doctor/Bringer & Lost Thief coats - those should be unrestricted as well at this point. The Plague Doctor/Bringer body model has been reused for ranged DPS in ShB and recently for crafters in a dyeable variation.

Yup, realised that just now when I read it. Allow me to explain it a bit better - most gear in the game has visual "job" identity differences pertaining to it: tanks get armour, DRG probably get a variation on the tank stuff, ranged DPS get lighter armour, casters get flowy robes. In that case, I see how it could be problematic to suddenly have a caster in a full suit of armour (even though it'd be cool).

On the other hand, the YoRHa sets have minimal/no "job" variations to them (unless puffy sleeves really mean that you are a tank). Personally, I'd kill for the Tank/DRG body to wear on my Ranged DPS and the Ranged DPS hood for my GNB (who is still relatively low but there's an outfit planned already).

This is actually a great solution! I'm currently leveling GNB for the YoRHa chest, which is both fashion and function in the current gear tier. When I get it, I should be able to trade it to a vendor once I'm "done" with it for a lv1 replica version that isn't attached to any class. That way, players around me can tell that I levelled/geared a tank class to their level. I don't think they'd have to rework a system for that, they did it right this patch in a similar way with updating crafter gear, except instead of lv1 pieces you bump them up in iLevel. That way you eliminate people snatching off-class gear up for glams and you incentivise people to level up new classes.

Won't happen unless they release replica crafting for the gear in the future. There is better things for Square to focus on.

The homogeneity argument really falls flat when all the YoRHa gear pretty much looks all the same anyways... as for why you'd want them unlocked, what's the point in having them locked? What sort of gain do you get outside of 'teehee I can use this on my favorite job and you can't'?

Sunday was yhe day my sister and I got through 5.0.

I find it humorous that this raid with it's fashionable glam has sparked so much whining. From 2b Coffers to job restrictions.
"It doesn't even LOOK like tank gear!" this is nothing new, there's tons of tank gear that doesn't look armored. Hell, the new furry DNG gear all basically looks like mid leather gear with very lil difference. But this raid gets all the attention lol

Anyway, I've learned to get over the gear restrictions. It's a part of the game they are not gonna suddenly change. Sure, I'd be bsing if I said I didn't recently sad face as I was working on a glam and noticed that the Bone Wicca Caster boots would work great on my MCH glam. But it's not the end of the world and I find at least half my pride in a good glam comes from being creative with what I have.

One of the suggestions seen above seems like a perfect fit - you need to level the class, obtain the gear piece and THEN you can use it for other classes as well in a glamour. That seems fair. You level the job, so you keep on doing old content + you get experience in the other jobs (Ranged/Melee/Caster/Healer/Tank). What's not to love about that? It gives more replay value AND makes the person feel happy when they finally achieve that perfect glamour piece that they can wear on their preferred job.

Well some of us actually suck at certain job/role.
For instance, I'm probably the worst tank player in the history of MMO.
Can keep the agro but never understood how to use my CD properly no matter how many times I tried or how many times people has tried to explain it to me. And god knows I tried so....basically, to be abble to use that glam, I would have to ruin my team mates experience by being carried on on one of the most important role for more than 30 lvls out of selfishness....

I'm in a similar situation.. I'm awful at red mage, but It's my main dps. Actually, I don't even like playing it that much.. I'm weeks behind in gear for every other class and people want 465 gear score etc. for farms, so I kinda gotta deal with it.. Really sucks, to be honest. I keep buying augmented gear for it too, just so I can have the boosted gear score, while at the same time pushing classes I think I'd actually want to play further and further behind. Rather a dps class I'd want to play. I only play white mage alternatively.

and SAME with tanks. I have literally NEVER tanked anything but a dungeon. I get anxiety if I tank actual content. I don't know any of the mechanics or what I need to do, I know it's not hard, but I still get anxiety. I don't even really tank extremes either, even though they give tank mount progress faster.. However, it is learn by doing. Though, I really don't know if it's worth playing a class you don't like just for the glamour, or use your weekly loot on it. You will get into a situation like I am in on my red mage. It's not worth it. Yes, I have made sets for my other classes, but I never see them, because I never play them. The most I ever see out of the looks I make is when I am leveling them.

Hello, I'm a bit late there but I was talking about unlocking everything, not just Nier's set. I should have specified this first.
Now, removing sets from roles/jobs is imho removing said roles a part of their identity. If you can wear everything you want without putting any effort into it, without having to experience a new job, their gameplay and story, you're removing a -good- part of the gaming experience. This is what I'm calling homogeneity. Whatever you do, leveling 1 job or all jobs, you'll get the same result ( glamour wise). I find it unfair and pretty dull.

Now, I'm not agains't removing glamour restriction when you reach max level. I could use some DoH pieces on my healers. That would be an amazing incentive to level all jobs ( better than the Amaro probably).

I think people are missing the point: The stats and earning the gear is still a thing. You need the gear for the roles but being able to glam the pieces onto any class you are at level for should be allowed after you have earned it. Why NOT? I don't get why people would have their proverbial knickers in a twist about it. People still have to 'do the work' and still need the 'stats' for their role... you still have the 'iconic look' in the Artifact Sets (which should NOT be unlocked) but the rest of the gear? Let people BE FREE.

My Healers already have a 'heavy plate set' created using gear I collected from raids/dungeons: Chest - Gordian Gown of Healing / Gloves - Bonewicca Soother's Gauntlets / Boots - Bonewicca Soother's Sabatons. - The idea of 'robes for healers uwu' is out the window, just look at the latest Deepshadow set, all that chainmail and heavy armour strapped to it. Hmmm. Stop trying to impose your ideas/ideals of what healers 'should' be on me/us. If that's how YOU want to play one, go for it. But others, including the developers, have other ideas.

Case in point. With FFXI’s equivalent system I can ‘glamour’ anything to any job. What problems does it cause? Absolutely none. Does it mean my BLU can wear full heavy armour? damn straight it can. Does it matter? No. It doesn’t ruin my immersion that my character can wear things. It makes sense to lock items, particularly with things like stats to certain jobs or roles, the inability to wear a piece of gear surely would be the immersion breaker. If I changed jobs IRL from a carpenter to a chef I can still wear my carpentry apron.

It’s likely also why some RPG’s instead of restricting what you can wear you gain benefits through proficiencies instead, save restricting what they can physically wear. From a mechanical standpoint it wouldn’t make sense here. But for a Mage to be able to glamour a pirate hat is not game or immersion breaking and I cannot think of a viable reason to restrict this beyond any limitations in the system. The whole "class identity" argument is silly. I didn't realise you had to be a hard to wear a pair of shoes.

We already have artifact/relic armour unique to their classes. There's their identity.

I can understand some restrictions like heavy plate not being wearable on a dancer I guess? But even then the new PvP sets the bard has a recolour of the heavy tank set.

Should release (level 1) glamour versions after the raid/expansion has concluded.

In some cases, I agree with each job keeping their unique style - mostly where the discrepancy between styles is sizeable like robes and cloaks vs suits of armour. However, when it comes to the YoRHa gear and some of the newer style sets, they mostly retain a singular style with minor changes throughout to fit each class. Why shouldn't they then be open to anyone?

The Nier gear is simply the easiest example given that it's the most recent plus it really does kinda look the best.

I created my heavy-plate healer glam because I was thinking of a typical Cleric (which is why my WHM weapon is the non-crafted Cane of the Heavens from Thordan EX, looks as mace-ish as I can get...) but seeing someone say 'no heavy plate for a dancer' now makes me want to see just how heavy a set I can create for one with the idea of a Turkish Blade Dancer. >:| Thank you for the inspiration.

Might I suggest mixing the legacy warrior chest piece with the Crystarium guard gloves!

In FFXI, there were no class or roles restrictions. If you have the job leveled, you can use that gear style on any other class. One of the few tings FFXI did right mind you. FFXI was waaaaay better than FFXIV in the style department, but that is about it...

That video had me laughing so hard... His stuff is fantastic. XD I enjoy when he puts makeup on the armour, personally. So aces on the use of this particular youtuber. XD

I rebelled at the 'restriction' comment because there 'SHOULD BE NO RESTRICTIONS ON GLAMOUR'. That's the POINT. Glamour should not be restricted. (Outside of, I'll grant, the Class Artifact Sets. Let those stay Iconic To The Class.) I did some more research after I made my comment and I was thinking of the dance scene from 'Bajirao Mastani' and the chainmail breastplate(s) forgetting that the rest of their garb is cloth while also thinking of DnD/tabletop books where more fantasy garb is used. (Whoops) But still, I have ideas and will be poking around looking at/for gear to see what I can make for my dancer just for funsies anyway. I like a good challenge.

Let people be inspired and challenged... and have more freedom to create in any class they are in/want to play. That's all. It shouldn't even be an argument. With people already tanking/healing/dpsing in bikinis, frogsuits, wedding dresses, rebel coats... etc the idea of 'muh immersion' and 'iconic sets' should really just be null. Please... let people be free.

While the yorha raid is the first time I've ever been upset that the healer set is NOT a lighter recolor of the caster set. I've more or less come to accept it, after all it makes for a nice glamour for my rdm.

What kind of defeatist excuse is that? The idea is if you want it, then you have to earn it. If you can't do the diligence, then you don't deserve to wear the tank gear. Very much like the tank mounts, which by themselves don't mean you're the best tank out there, but having one or more definitely says you've done some tanking.

I have anxiety too. Hasn't stopped me from queuing up as a tank because you deal with anxiety by facing it. Every awesome tank in this game did not start out that way. They have countless hours of tanking under their belt. The ones that grab that role by the horns and own it are the ones that deserve to wear the fending gear, and use it for cross-class glamours if it was a thing. If this system was in place, I can almost guarantee that you wouldn't be able to role greed on anything other than gear that pertain to the role you queued up as. SE wants players to level and utilize multiple jobs, that is the reason why in the system we have now, you can obtain pieces of gear that your current class can't wear in duties.

Anxiety isn't in any formula the devs use when trying to figure out how to give incentive to the jobs they create. You get good at something through practice and repetition, and this also has a nice affect on anxiety too by totally eliminating it, which in turn allows you to perform much better.

I have every job on lvl 80 and yet I too want the role restrictions to be removed. I dont care if I could glamour it to the other job if I want that glamour for another. There are also a lot of other restricted gear that I really love to use on other jobs too especially the stuff that you can get for gatherers and crafters.

Sometimes (especially with crafters where I love the whole set) I will glamour it all but a lot of times I like to match up different kind of glamours into one new set which is then mostly restricted to using lvl 1 glamour gear..

And I am too confused why removing the restrictions would give us less option? Would you also say that having a school wearing a school uniform gives better options than every person being able to choose their own clothes? Sure you will have those that will wear what is expensive or modern but you will also have enough people that will just wear what they will find great which can be quite different to the rest. So really can someone truly explain why this would give us less options?

As far as I can tell, no one is saying that removing restrictions reduces your options. This is mathematically impossible. Those who are for the restrictions being in place are saying that more options =/= more diversity. If that is the angle of your argument, then it is not a good one. They are also repeating over and over again that removing restrictions would take a ton of dev time, and would much rather have more options come by that time going towards creating new sets of gear.

The YoHRa gear you're all in love with wouldn't even be possible if the devs are fiddling around with restriction removal on gear that is already in the game. IOW: Less time spent on milking old content equals More time spent on the new. If you truly want more options and more diversity, then pushing for restriction removal at this point in the game doesn't even make much sense.

YohRa gear wasn't already there, it needed time to be designed and modeled after every race and gender.

Restriction removal and even Replica creating already count on existing models... I'm not sure if I'm following your logic on time allocation.

This whole “job identity” doesn’t really hold up as an argument, considering many job specific outfits are now glam on the marketboard as level 1 items. It’s rather a silly argument too, since the NieR content is supposed to be fun for everyone, not boring and restricted. I support this thread and I suspect we will see these job restricted outfits as level 1 glamour during 5.5. If we’re lucky, 5.2.

It is not as difficult or complex as it appears, and it may just be that tank anxiety is making you think otherwise, but trust me, it's not:

Small pulls = no CDs or maybe rampart if the mobs are big mobs(they always hit hard). Generally though you don't waste them on 3 mob pulls, unless the DPS is poor and the fight drags on.
Big pulls = strong CD(sentinel, etc) -> weaker(rampart, etc) -> hope for the best, or use "I wont die" CD
Tankbusters = strong CD if available, or weaker one, anything you have that can gimp the incoming damage in some way. TBs from what I've seen tend to come after 2 auto-attacks, or their "THIS WILL SURELY WIPE YALL" AOE attacks. Some of them are not telegraphed and just come out of nowhere.
Important thing to know about CD is they are not additive. Rampart and Sentinel for example is not 50%.

Absolute 2 best places I can think of for practice is Brayflox Longstop Hard, and Doma Castle(all the pulls hit stupidly hard, especially the one before the second boss).

Although tanking in a raid might be a little annoying/awkward since you can never know what kind of people the other two tanks are..

So there's your basic tank 101, now go try and get your tank top(no pun intended).

Right now, for YoRHa gear?
Because it's equipment that people still can use for gearing up.
I'd feel bad for those poor healers who could use that chest, only to be outrolled by some ninja because they could use it as some glam.

Maybe, in the future, once the raids are being finished and regular tomes provide a better bonus, then we can talk about unrestricted replica gear.
