It's hilarious that some of the people saying that chat removal was good thing because Feast chat was so toxic were literally some of the most toxic people inside and outside of Chernobyl.
I don't know how I feel about this. I think if you don't want a stressful experience, you shouldn't be playing a ranked matchmaking mode. I'm stressed out with or without chat, I want to win, I try my best, and I get down on myself if I do something that makes my team lose (anyone who has watched me stream knows this). If my teammates aren't putting in the same effort as me, I feel like it is disrespectful. One time, my tank died because he didn't back when I died I said "????", and he replied, "been on the phone all match xD lol". People like this are the problem with the ranked community in my opinion, I'd rather someone get upset with me because I know they care about the game. I put 100% into every ranked match I play, and I expect the same from my teammates. If you aren't stressed out, either you aren't putting 100% into the match, or you are some kid of stoic god.
To offer a differing perspective, I am terrified to try out even unranked Feast now, despite the Garo rewards, simply because I will have no idea what I'm doing poorly, or well, or what my teammates are trying to achieve and if I should follow them or stay back because I'm needed elsewhere.
I'm not a slouch at Frontlines healing, even under pressure, but the way I learned was by quietly observing the callouts and strategies presented by veteran players of PVP. With no one to direct in a Feast mode, I'll probably wind up making more mistakes than if I could have had someone directing me (whether worded rudely or harshly or no). Now all I can do when I queue up is either hope the team is good enough where they don't really need me to play well, or that the enemy team is as noob as I am so it all evens out.
I prefer disable chat too, since I don't know any macro of japanese, this is good to understand what they mean with this chat button. But it still need more chat like "need MP" or countdown stuff.
I admire your sense of personal accountability. Sadly, that is a quality that a lot of players lack. It's all too common to see people just gun their way forwards without any regard to their role, responsibilities, or teammates. It's a mentality that I think has been bred into the current generation of gamers by instant gratification games which value personal stats (such as Kill : Death) over your actual result/win rate, and quite frankly, it shows in how they play.
A certain degree of anxiety is a good thing in a game mode like this, because you really should feel at least some accountability for the success or failure of your team. That's the same in Feast as it is in a savage raid or an extreme trial. It sounds harsh, but if you're not feeling at least the slightest twinge of anxiety when you go into these kinds of things, then you probably don't belong there. It's always nice to see players who do, even if they preform badly, because at least you know that they are somewhat invested in favorable results and will likely improve over time, regardless of if they get chewed out for playing badly along the way.
Why don't you get it? The tools that are used to police other players are all but unusable in feast. Could SE put effort into making tools, yes. Do they half @55 a lot of stuff 100% yes. Will they make tools to police players better and add chat back who knows.
Player in frontlines today, flames suck ducks plus other useful contributions. When 5 mins were up we booted him. How does that work in feast? Oh and someone was nice enough to screenshot us winning that match http://imgur.com/JFfIRkn
Had one just now
Me>all i asked you is why you charged in a base like that, i do not understand why you couldn't answer
them> because it's a 72 man
I may poke at people with ruin II while they are mounted but I run back out right away. I do not go charging in a base feeding the other team and putting other teammates in danger particularly me, because I went in heal him deeper then I should have, hoping he would back off, they didn't and I had to let them die. They got defensive because i asked and "called them out" and my reply to that is that I am trying to do my best to help the team win, while I see people that do not care, you think that is not going to cause conflict and arguments when people act like that?
SE also does not see you can be toxic though actions too, like this situation. In feast it may be though feeding or spamming "good job" when someone dies, and or losing. NO AMOUNT of censorship will block toxic play.
You really need add more details because all I am seeing is you kick abused someone for not liking them, you are really not replying to anything I said? O_o
So, Please tell me how chat banned has benefited you in learning the feast 4v4. oh wait. you can't say anything to ask for help. Nor have I never seen you ever within this season. If you are going to go and insult people that are "emotionally stunted juveniles" you should at least play the game mode that these "emotionally stunted juveniles" came from.
you guys:"boo hoo my chats gone. what will i do?"
meanwhile, my wife is being called a bitch and told to dominate people sexually when she tries to be helpful and explain seal rock as being similar to domination from call of duty. I hope Yoshida enforces more restrictions until you get sick of being punished and learn to behave. (and by "You" i dont mean everyone. I mean the people with the tough-it-up-buttercup attitudes and the belief that its ok to be a prick all they want towards others)
I dont care about the chat at all because even in seal rock it rarely proves useful. I keep seeing ASCII art of pigs with overly large penises spammed across shout. This community doesnt deserve a chat until it changes or the FFXIV team learns some way of enforcing players to be decent human beings towards their fellow players.
Sorry didn't realize you wouldn't understand the whole comment of "suck a d*ck" would mean. The reason why we don't have to turn chat off in frontlines is abuse is easy to kick and replace or even win with one less player.
The other point is you keep bringing up other party formats in the game. Those modes have downtime and ability to boot someone, that feels the need to spend five minutes telling people they need to do various sexual acts. Feast does not work that way. I would prefer that SE would post names and brand people with irremovable titles that don't use chat properly. People have no fear of how they act and it feels like half the people think it is right, acceptable, merited (pick a word).
1. oh look, another player that doesn't 4v4 feast at all
2. You do realize she is trying to explain and command a entire possible 72man frontlines which can be more difficult to manage.
3. If you don't "tough it up buttercup" and ignore the negative/the immature. you aren't going to get very far.
4. If you don't care about chat or this ban at all, why are you even adding your 2 cents opinion when you say the community doesn't deserve a chat. make up your mind. It's either you care or not.
5. your Frontlines experience doesnt matter as if that is something you can compare to with feast. (also, you shouldn't be the one posting for your wife.)
1: I just tried pvp for the first time with 3.5 im not ready to be rated nor do i have the friends to try practicing as i just returned not too long ago. I practice in 8v8 and what does it matter? Oh you think your opinion matters more because youre 4v4 player? Please allow my to kneel before you and bathe in your awe and glory. (If i had a nickle for ever time some FFXIV player said "Oh look,...." in these forums.)
2:she was not talking to a hole 72 man, she was replying to one person who happened to use shout.
3:because people get away with sexual harassment and anything else they feel like anywhere else in the world?
4: I care about playing pvp. I care about playing with my wife and not seeing her verbally abused by or sexually harassed by others. I do not care if the chat is removed as it does not effect my ability or my teams chance of victory. If they dont bring it back i wont feel a single bit of dissapointment, but i do care that people are bashing my wife and spamming stupid ASCII memes, only to be punished for it, and then turn around and act like jerks on the forums by bashing and belittling the opinions of others in hopes that yoshida will magically decide being a jerk to somebody is ok and regret punishing them. If you want your silly chat back. You know what to do. BEHAVE. Acting like this is only reinforcing his decision.
5:Just lol..and ..I post not just for my wife, but for eveyone. Myself included, that is sick of hearing this bs talk of "deal with it cause its just how life is" when it is not. I have never been treated the way that i have in this community, in any real life location in the world and not been able to do something about it. Especially when the answer to everyones problems is to just be nice. Is that so freaking hard?? It would reinstate the chat, and possibly even bring in more people to play both pvp and pve. This game needs disciplinary moderators.
^ this guy sounds like such a joy to play with. Definitely not confrontational at all and comes across like a well-adjusted adult who would absolutely have no problems dismissing such blatantly obvious trolling...
^this guy isnt doing much better(talking like hes looking down on me,but...)
You know what? Im going to apologize. You might be right. I might seem confrontational. I probably am. I feel too passionately. Its a habit i have. And quite frankly im pissy. I cant stand the thought of somebody treating my wife that way. If it were in person I would have entered into a physical fight with them. Most men who live where I do would. Where I come from, you dont let people talk to your girl like that. I just sincerely want this toxic crap to stop and people to be moderated. Idk if youve seen it but ive said before "I hope we get chat back", but i also hope that it doesnt include the community getting away with all of this stupidity. Theres a reason why yoshida took the chat and im willing to bet its because he thought it was too toxic. So then if thats true, like i said. It only takes being nice to get the chat back. What do people do? Argue and fight and bad mouth everyone around them trolling and bashing one another like they will never have to worry about consequences.
I guess we're just different. Majority of people would never say those types of things in person, which is why they say them online. The fact you even got remotely upset about it is entertaining to them. I mean it's all pretend, there is legitmately nothing more they could do other than provoke you. After the match, your wife could report such behavior, requeue and continue on playing. I can guarantee by the time she ever came across them again, they'd have forgotten all about her.
It's PvP, you will find this behavior in any game with it. It's a mode where people get enjoyment from killing eachother. There are far darker elements in this game just in the MSQ alone
Those darker elements don't involve my wife and are just part of a scripted story/game. To me, insults are insults, whether written or spoken. I didn't know it was something you could report. I'll probably start reporting more often and encourage good sportsmanship. I didn't say anything in the chat. I knew if i did id lose my cool and my wife really wanted to win for that Ginga mount. I probably should look over the terms of service again. Thank you for your post.
Any harassment is reportable, and I suggest her hiding chat if it is ruining her game experience. I usually hide chat in PvE because I just want to mindlessly relax when I go into PvE content.
I'm not encouraging or endorsing reporting, but yes, any type of language like you described is absolutely reportable.
The more you pvp the more numb you become to stuff like that and learn how to deal with that nonesense in a manner they would even appreciate.
So basically, you guys don't want the chat back because you're full of hate, therefore you want others to suffer in Feast.
Seems pretty mature.
I'm on the fence about the whole thing, but lets not pretend the majority wanting chat back on these forums have been anything but snarky, rude and impolite. I refuse to believe SE put such a restriction in place if they didn't feel it was an actual problem, a little hamfisted and extreme sure, but it shows it might be bad enough to warrant such an extreme action.
No less snarky, rude or impolite than the current environment of party finder. At least they can somewhat prevent/control the amount of toxity they could potentially spew by getting to lock-out anyone they deem "inexperienced". Not 4v4 Solo, waltz right in and tank other's rank...good luck trying to pull something like that in a "NO BONUS, KNOW ENTIRE FIGHT 30m AFTER LAUNCH, NO BREATHING AND IF THERE IS EVEN THE SLIGHTEST POSSIBLE MISTAKE INSTANT DISBAND!!!" party. Oh ya, but we're toxic because we don't want to waste our time either?
Back in LoL, the common saying was:"Report and move on."
So yeah, just keep quiet in the game and do that, ideally right after the incident. Feel free to do multiple reports on the same person if the person is consistently a D-bag, more evidence makes for easier GM judgement. But keep the detailed description crisp and on point - Some people are writing entire novels there, which only slows GM work down >_>
1.because multiple people have been through 3 SEASONS of experience of the environment and community and know how people react. there are never any toxic players because by the time you hit within a certain rank. that type of attitude is non-existent almost. That fact that you said you just started pvping in 3.5, you have no knowledge of what everyone has been going through within the feast but you apparently agree with the chat ban because of your wife's experience in frontlines. So in way, your post is just funny because you never went through anything that is even close to being "toxic" in PvP
2.so one person acts immature and negative. and you judge the ENTIRE community based upon one person. that's really really "smart" of you.
3.What is blacklist. even better, if they aren't even in your server why should you care.
(Can you stop using your wife frontline experience to justify a chat ban on feast)
Lol no , but I guess telling healer to heal when people are at 10% hp opposed to using combust is to rude and might break his heart and feelings , what a joke of a post
Due to it being impossible to boot people while loot is up or for a certain amount of time after combat has passed, it's also nearly impossible to kick someone in a 24-man raid, at least without asking the entire alliance to stop and wait a few minutes (at which point it becomes apparent you're going to kick someone in your party, which can lead to hostility and flaming). We had a SMN yesterday in Dun Scaith deliberately move into AOEs and kept letting raise time out because he just wanted to afk for a loot, and yet we were unable to do anything about him without consulting in alliance chat. As soon as we did, he called us "elitist" and that he shouldn't be punished for being new to the instance, and that it wasn't his fault he was dying (he said he "lagged" when we asked why he let raises time out instead of accepting them).
Go figure, we get to the end and he doesn't even get the achievement for first-time clear.
I think a reasonable solution to this toxicity in PVE is to instantly kick someone from an instance if they die 3 or more times to avoidable mechanics. How does that sound, everyone?
1) out of the 2000+ feast matches and 1500+ frontlines matches I've played, I have never seen anything remotely like this in serious or malicious context.
2) this is 100% someone trolling or trying to be funny. If your wife is taking this kind of thing seriously, she will likely not find enjoyment in online pvp centric games or modes.
Thanks. Today I'll be stepping in for the first time (I have the next two days off, so gonna try to grind out the Garo mount before I lose my nerves and/or before the queues dry up), so if anyone here sees me on their team, sorry if I'm not doing so well. Do know that I'm trying, at least, and like the rest of you wish that we could use chat so I could get some pointers.
I mean, I understand where the anti-chat people are coming from, I do - everybody should be allowed to learn and make mistakes with helpful feedback and support from their team, not sarcasm and "FAIL" ASCII macros. But at the same time...they're just words. I get them all the time in WoW, and they didn't stop me from PVPing there (as a healer, too, which is arguably way more difficult than trying to heal here due to the current melee pain train meta over there). Yes, I used to get people send me whispers in a match telling me to uninstall, or someone in chat saying "ugh our retard healers are just handing the match to them". You know what? I just skimmed it, or ignored them. Even harshly-worded advice I took note of ("Jesus Christ heals, why don't you try line-of-sighting next time?"), because that was how I adapted to challenged presented, but it seems like here, people would just cry about being harassed rather than look for the kernels of truth buried within the rudeness. I see it in PVE, as well.
It's kind of like a double onus, to me. Veterans SHOULD work on keeping their tempers in check, even in a competitive mode. But new players should also actually read what is being presented, not just how it's being presented, and draw their own conclusions from there before immediately crying foul. For the most part, in WoW, I didn't pay attention to things like "heals???" or "wtf our healers are awful", because only I am the most accurate metric of my own performance. I know when I'm doing as well as I can with the noobs and the yoloers, and I also know when I make a poor decision and am not with my team when they need me most. That's kind of why this whole thing frustrates me - have some confidence, people! Rather than applauding a mass gag order that protects your delicate sensitivities, feel more mature about yourself and acknowledge when vitriolic statements contain valuable criticism, and when they're just an idiot blowing hot air.
Now, I have none of that. I simply have to go in, play a match in utter silence other than "Get medals!" "Nice job!" "Nice job!" "Nice job!" "Nice job!" "Nice job!" "Fall back!" "Nice job!" "Nice job!" "Nice job!" "Nice job!" "Nice job!". What does that tell me? What value is there in those statements? I could think, "Awesome, I got medals like they said" and run around with 10 stacks all match and because the other team is just as poorly coordinated still somehow win. And I'll think that's how every match is supposed to be played, instead of someone - even if worded harshly - being able to say, "dude don't grab that many stacks next time, you nearly cost us the match. only get like 2 as heals". And heaven forfend the person who tries to use that damned "Nice job!" macro unironically, FFS. People are already starting to see it as sarcasm, even in the rare case it might not be. What will the pearl-clutchers do now?
For the last line, no, because there was tons of that the first day. But you are proving a point of mine and that is showing it is possible to be toxic without saying anything. This is why removing the chat is pointless as it does not prevent toxicity anyway, and only hurts the people that want to use all the tools. Yes I seen examples of that before. My friend went off on another healer for "dying on purpose" on the first day and not use LB3. She wanted the healer to use LB3 to give us a chance to clear it and let people see the ending phases of Scathach, the speed up versions so people can get exposed to it and see it and pass it the next time. Every time the healer said "no" to my friend saying "should used lb 3" attempted to vote kick (after the 3rd time or so of this being done) She explained this is proof the healer is not trying their best to pass it when my friend was (was not healing well before and putting extra stress on my friend, despite having better gear then her) What ended up happening instead of voting yes to that person, was just to abandon duty.
People really need to go overboard to pass a kick in PvE, another example my friend told me about, she was playing research fallacy with a newer player and was doing that specially for her to farm tomes for gear. My friend noticed right away there was a possibility this tank and dps where together when she asked why the tank was kiting monsters around the orb and made a simple remark about not seeing that done before and asked them not to do it for the next one so she can AoE everything. Later the THM people where casting aoe petrify and my friend insisted to kill the THM first not the CNJ. My friend also did not like tanking the THM for targeting them first and the tank refused to help with this. Later the tank let my friends friend die (healer) and because of that she left the DF. The new WHM asked what happened and my outspoken friend said it really blatantly "The tank was toxic and let the healer die so she left" Right when the battle was over she tried to vote kick and it failed (So the new healer despite being told this, rejected kicking the tank) right at the final boss, the tank said something about asking my friend, the BLM, to tank the boss. Her response was putting the vote kick request again and it finally passed, so this caused the DPS friend of the tank to leave as well. So my friend ended up explaining to all the replacements on how they got there, since she knew they would be confused as heck why they are there just before the final boss. I am quite amazed at that situation though because how there was only one person left in the Df that started the run originally, because the new player did not want to deal with the toxicity and throw the vote up, she left, and basically led to having 3 replacements minutes before the final boss.
Despite having kick tools, it is hard to pass legitimate kick votes at times, and not having it for feast is not an argument to ban chat. PvE is more toxic then PvP in my experience, and quite a hypocritical stance to ban chat in feast and not PvE
exactly, my guess for them targeting feast was a simple fact it most likely got reported more, in pve, most people tend to ignore it more since it is not as important. I had to witness someone spamming "FAIL" ASCII macros and sexual ASCII macros because someone did not like to be told by my friend that they wasted a rage orb and how it can be used better. (AFTER we started fighting the boss they spammed the chat with them, shocked we won despite that, everyone reported that person)
This thread is a lie...
No it isn't. Period. Full stop. End of story.
K, someone lock thread plz, were done here. =)
