everything is already clipping really badly, and they don't need to make gorillas or beast-tribe races for us; they could have done something like Aman in Tera (basically beastly Roe) and they could have made Miqs, something like Rei in Breath of Fire III,
It's an option that many ppl want, so it's stupid reason not to do it, just because "Japanese people" (big generalization) don't like it.
also it just proves how "Hyur" every race is, because apparently they need to add "ears" to helmets, so miq and elezen won't look like any hyur, because they barely have any distinguishing features.
they already need to deform every armor for Lalafells and male roes, so they might as well drop support for those, if it's such a problem :)

Hmmm...does it really conflict with the Viera plan? I myself am not in favor of bunny guy because it is quite similar as Miqo'te. There should not be only one new race in the future, probably.
And if new race is based on existent beast tribes, it is easy to make out their habitation and culture. Opening a new map as their related city-state (flyable city-state, which none of the current cities can be) somewhere between Gridania and the sea of clouds sounds not bad...

Sadly, it was made very clear that Beast Tribes will never be playable due to lore reasons (and gear design and 'not-cute' reasons). Of course, there's still the option to make 'Beastman Glamour' or something. Just apply, for example, a Vanu Vanu Prism on the body and bam, now you're a Vanu Vanu. Most SE would need to do with that is redo certain animations, especially for 'important' cutscenes. No gear will need to be redesigned and since it's Glamour, you're not breaking lore.

Given that no matter when and where a race thread or poll pops up the overwhelming opinion always leans towards those wanting Viera, all one needs to do is put it in game. Once Viera are out of the way, suddenly, the door is open for a wide variety of more ambiguous desires from the playerbase. lol

We have Vanu Vanu and Gnath costumes in game. Closest thing we will get.

It seems we both side misunderstand something.
When I first talked about bird-man, I just meant a race with almost human appearance but some tiny animal features (just like Au Ra and Viera). Its general race is mortal, not bird or beast.
Is that also a "Beast Tribe"? I'm curious why I mention "bird" people always think about "beast tribes". Is it all because of the Vanu Vanu? Or the game has announced something like "we would never add new race with beast features"? (that's impossible, as the Viera already has rabbit ears and tail)
In other words, the difference between my "bird-man" and Vanu Vanu is just like that between Au Ra and wyvern.

While they definitely take a more human look in XII, they still have claws and digitigrade(?) feet. SE would replace those if they were to be brought into XIV's playable world.

Regarding choosing between more options for existing races or having a new race, I don't see why a choice must be made. With SE dropping PS3 support for Stormblood, they're going to have more resources to play with this time round.

To the Au Ra that are thinking "no" to the idea of new races, while playing the current newest race and couldn't be happier, please spare some empathy for those of us that want Viera/something else?

To the Miqo'te that are thinking "no" to Hyur with bunny ears, how is that any worse than Miqo'te, who are basically Hyur with cat ears and a tail?

If they do add Viera though, I hope they're at least Fran's height of 6'2 (187cm) without her ears and 7'1 (215cm) with them included.

I used to want new races until I realized SE seems to have some limitations. Maybe a programming limitation, or how much information is sent with all our chars appearance details. In that case I'd rather the extra "information" or whatever go toward more customization options for the races we already have.

Also I don't have much faith in a new race I'd actually want to try out. Au ra was kinda just thrown into the game with barely a mention to their lore (as far as I've noticed) and I don't even recall an abundance of au ra npc's in HW either. The original concept art they had for Au ra was also WAYYYY cooler than what we ended up with. Major mistake.

Because of SE trying to make this new race as a surprise during the course of ARR and that they came from an entirely different continent, the race had a rough start to be introduced lore-wise.
The Doman refugees Yugiri might've had with her could also be Raen. Xaela are nomads and as well had their homeland invaded by the Garlean empire. Being an adventurer is also a thing.

So those are the only possible reasons how the Au Ra came to the continent.

This is still a pretty significant undertaking. After all, player characters have access to a LOT of attack animations. You'll need to design movements for Vanu Vanu that allow flips and kicks on MNK, elaborate spinning slashes on NIN, so on and so forth.

That said, this is STILL more likely to happen than actually allowing people to play the game as beastmen, as presumably no armor redesign would be required (the Vanu glamour would cover up all your armor).

Since we got Au'ra already I'm quite sure we won't see Gria in the game. Would love to have Viera, though I don't see it happening due to lore reasons. Couldn't explain a male Viera and couldn't introduce a female only race.
Winged characters could hardly be introduced due to massive clipping of the wings, which makes birds quite impossible as well.

Possible besides Viera would be for example Burmecian or Cleyran, Garif (same problem as with Viera, so maybe introduce Viera for female characters and Garif for male characters? But shitstorm would be incoming), Padjal (which would be hard to explain with lore as well, sadly), and perhaps a few others I missed.

Hydaelyn Viera lore doesn't have to be the same or similar to the Ivalice Viera. They might not even have the same name if it's confirmed.

Also Padjal will never be playable. They are a rare breed of Hyur, blessed by the elementals, usually becoming devouts and serve for the elementals and the Black Shroud (or Twelveswood as they call it).

I doubt we'd see another single-gender race, unless they were kinda genderless like the Galka. People would pitch a fit.

I'd say you're correct in that it's highly likely that they WOULDN'T be called Viera. Mithra, Galka, Hyur, Tarutaru, and Elvaan all got name changes for their adaptations into this game. Why should Viera be any different?

As for Padjal, as I've explained in other race threads, there's absolutely nothing in the game's lore preventing them from adding Padjal as a race if they so choose. The game's EXISTING Padjal all originate from a few Hyuran families that have been "blessed" by the Elementals - but it is not explained how the Elementals did this, and whether they could do it again. On a mass scale, if they wanted to. The one and only thing that has to happen in order for Padjal to become a race is for the devs to decide, "Okay, the Elementals have decided to make a whole lot of Padjal. They've had the ability all along, but only recently decided that it would be necessary."

For those that argue that the Padjal are bound to the forest - no, they aren't. There are numerous examples of Padjal traveling abroad. The existing Padjal CHOOSE to stay in the Shroud, because if they left there would be none to mediate with the Elementals, and things could quickly go to ruin. If there were hundreds or thousands of Padjal, this would not be a concern. We'd have the NPC Padjal minding the Elementals, while the player character Padjal roamed the world.

Honestly, this kind of thing is something the Elementals should be doing anyway, if they are able. Too often now, they've been so focused on threats within the forest, that threats from OUTSIDE the forest (Garleans - particularly Nael and his disastrous release of Bahamut, Ixali and their logging, Alaqa from the WHM storyline and her necromantic esperiments) almost destroy everything they want to preserve. With an army of Padjal, they'd be much better able to protect the forest's interests abroad.

My absolute wildest dream would be to include some kind of plant people. Maybe the original worshipers of Sephirot. Although I'm not sure how the hairstyles would work. Too many hairstlye rewards in game for them not to have hair. Same problem with aquatic races. And don't even get me started on sentient aquatic plants. :D Now that would be fun.

If an NPC won't react to my lewd glamour, then I highly doubt Beastman glamour will be an issue.

I think there's even an interview (in a the FFXI Official World Guide Volume 1. Japanese only) where Nobuaki Komoto confirmed that the Galka are indeed male.

Galka are all male, and rather than reproduce, they reincarnate all Phoenix-like.

Mithra have the same rules as Miqo'te, except that males are tightly guarded commodities. I believe there was a single male in all of FFXI shown outside of his home.

It's funny to look back at how flabberghasted everyone was when Merlwyb happened. Female Roegadyn? Impossible! ....right?

Padjal are born as Hyurs from certain Hyur bloodlines first, then get blessed by the elementals simply from touching them, which makes them grow horns, can communicate with the forest and also stop aging at some point. I'm not against the idea of a new race, but I don't think we'll be getting one with this expansion. But if we do get a new race, I hope it's something exclusive to the FFXIV universe.

I want another race to add to the life in our game. Yes better customization is needed, but why not have both? A new race could easily give the developers an excuse to enhance the character customization system, or redo it altogether. Yeah it would take more recourses, but good things take plenty of time.

Yeah, rather they add lot more customization to our current races instead of putting in a whole new one, Au'ra was filled the Viera gap nicely in my opinion. Hmm... how about a new division/origin with our current races instead? A 3rd version, so like how we have Midlanders and Highlanders or Sea Wolves and Hellsguard, maybe each race can get one more version each? I think that would be pretty interesting and would help people look more distinct between each other with more options and such!

If I'm grasping at straws, you're jumping to conclusions that simply aren't supported by in-game dialog. For example, there's nothing anywhere that suggests growing horns is caused by an Elemental literally, physically touching a Hyur. Certain Hyur from certain families simply start growing horns at some point during their adolescence, and it is at that point that they are identified as Padjal. Simply because the elementals have behaved one way in the past does not mean that they are forever locked into behaving that way in the future. Heck, the elementals in ARR and Heavensward are already behaving WAY differently than they did in 1.0 - they were all up in everyone's faces in 1.0, but are much, MUCH more subdued, now. Perhaps they're saving up their power for a massive Padjal explosion?

Lore is a foundation, not a cage. We know certain things about the Elementals, but that does not mean that there is no room to grow and expand on that lore. For elementals to embark on a new initiative to spread their influence beyond the Twelveswood would NOT break lore in any way. It would develop it, instead. As for "the devs said so," I doubt they ever did - but even if they did, it means nothing. The devs can change their minds if they feel like it - and they have in the past.

Right now, nothing you've stated has convinced me that Padjal are impossible to implement as a player race. I think it unlikely to happen, of course, but there's nothing in-game that makes such an idea inconceivable. Heck, if they wanted to, the Elementals wouldn't even have to limit themselves to Hyur. Horns for Lalafell! Horns for Elezen! Au Ra with EVEN MORE HORNS!

Honestly, the strongest argument I've seen against the idea of implementing Padjal as a player race is this:

While I consider it conceivable that the devs could decide that the Elementals have started to mass-produce Padjal, I just don't see SE implementing a race that would require them to change the iconic opening wagon ride (or boat ride, if Limsa), since it serves an important narrative device as bookends with the wagon getaway at the end of 2.5. That initial wagon ride and the accompanying dialog makes it clear that you're from out of town - and even if the Padjal are shifting full bore into Padjal production, it seems unlikely that they'd have had the chance to bless you OR your bloodline. It's still not impossible - you could be descended from Hyur that once lived in the Twelveswood but emigrated, and you're only now returning to Eorzea - but it does get a whole lot more awkward.

There you go. This wasn't hard to find. It's dialogue from 1.0 but 'touch' is something you shouldn't have taken literally.
Lore is both a foundation and a restriction. A lot of things in the game didn't make the cut because of the lore itself.

I'm not going to keep on with this, it's simply not happening and you know it. What you've been suggesting is ridiculous and I highly doubt they'd make it a playable race, ever.
