No, my eyes are blue.
And once again. You clearly haven't played XI in a long long time.

I have 5 90's... I have an active Sub... unless you mean standing around with your dick in your hand while everyone else does Abyssea then yea.. sure you could get to 50 in a day.. That's even worse than mob grinding.. I actually took a nap while leveling PLD from 37-75...
grindy? Dude...you..just...ugh have you EVER played a RPG? Seriously...RPGs aren't meant to hit max level in a day. Aside from exploiting on FFXI (which people still do, yes..people DO still summoner burn) there is no way to hit max level in a day. Why you think that you are entitled to not have to work for your stuff is beyond me. "Oh hai, SE, I want max level, max gear, no work, I can has, yes?" NO! This game isn't grindy at all. It is EASIER TO LEVEL COMPARED TO ALMOST EVERY GAME ON THE MARKET and you STILL think that it is grindy. You can hit max level in FFXIV faster than you can on COD...that's sad...and if you think Hello Kitty Online is a grind..wow dude..you're terrible. Go play Allods. THAT is a grind. You're r33 after 6 months? Go play a different game since this one is obviously too difficult for you.
lol save what? It has gotten better.. not worse clown shoes. I give up.. if SE listenes to LuxLex i'll just quit again.. like i did before because the game sucked so bad.. if it was so good before 1.18 why did the population INCREASE afterwards and why did so many people quit before 1.18 and go back to XI and other games?
It's always been this way. You have the option of linking your account, but even if you don't... your auction history will still be tracked.
Anyways, there are currently ~330,443 active characters... which would includes mules too. I'm sure you're going to try to make a point how there are thousands of active accounts that have never used the auction house... but save your breath.
I honestly have to question exactly what you were doing in both games. Saying 4 months to 90 and 6 months to 33 really doesn't tell us anything. Total hours played to reach these levels is what matters. It's really easy to skew the numbers by saying it took you 6 months, but neglecting to mention if you only played a few hours a week and took frequent breaks from the game. The same sort of number skewing would apply to the former claim of 4 months as well. You also fail to mention if you were leveling other classes/jobs or focusing on one and only one, possibly further skewing your claim.
Also as many have already pointed out if you have actually been playing with any sort of follow through, you should be far FAR higher than 33. I played fairly regularly from the games launch until early January before I quit (came back recently to see how the update changed things.) In that 3 months I hit rank 30+ (I just hit rank 33 today) and got several other crafting and combat classes between 10-20.
I by no means put in any amount of hours that one could consider to be "hardcore" I played heavily on release and it slowly dwindled down to nothing. Overall I probably averaged 10 hours a week over 3 months. I also never took advantage of any exploits, and I think I joined an exp mob grind party a grand total of once.
EDIT: I also feel the need to point out that comparing anything in XIV to ANY content in XI that was released in 2005 or later is faulty. You are comparing content of a game that has had 8 YEARS to build a foundation and design content around, to a game that for all intents and purposes should still not be released to the public.
Did I say nothing had gotten better? For one thing, I think collision detection is much better now. Yey not walking around tiny ledges.
As for the population getting bigger, I am sure a few people have come back and will play regularly, but I don't think you can count people coming and checking out the patch as permanent quite yet.
I am advocating for things that didn't work in this patch to get fixed. That isn't the same thing as hating the game.
everything seems to be working as intended to me.. just pt'd for hours and my CON has 0 problems keeping the PT healed and had no MP issues.. I play as an ARC and have no problems with the changes to ARC.. so ummm yea don't even go there.
I gained over 70K SP in 3hrs doing various tasks around Eorzea that they have given us to do.. besides just grinding 1 task.. I did Leve's, and Behest, and PT EXP'd, and have a freaking blast.. as did the other 7 people with me. Sorry you suck at life and at video games.
Yeah, I leveled a lot of jobs in XIV - more than I did in XI. I played about the same amount of each on a weekly basis.
Leveling in XI (and this was before the patch before last which made it even faster) was about twice as fast, though I will grant that I did a lot of fishing in XIV, which is really slow, so that probably slowed my average down.
The exp needed per level is way less in XI than in XIV, and the amount you get per mob is comparable - higher when you count getting an extra 1-2K exp every 5-8 mobs you kill for pages.
330,443 active accounts, now let's say that 1/3rd of those characters have mules. That's still around 220k active characters, which isn't far off of what was recently recorded. My point is that FFXI has lost players since the release of Abyssea and the numbers prove that. The majority of the FF population doesn't want everything handed to them. The numbers prove that. If FFXIV turns into another Abyssea scenario, it WILL sink. FFXI pre-abysssea: 500k? After abyssea: 220k. The same will happen to 14.
Math requires more than than 1 number. Warp only posted 1 number. You posted two. You also ignored the fact that players declining could have happened anywhere in that time period, and that they all left for different reasons.
And yes, some butthurt people left because of abyssea because their gear which they spent 5 years slaving away for was obselete. /shrugs
A lot of people like me have come back because they can have a life AND play the game now.
I have a life...and I spend it playing video games. Problem? Also, yes, I posted 2 numbers. 1 number was the amount of subs before Abyssea and the other is the amount of subs now. Yes, people could have left for different reasons, but it is odd that the number of subs was on a pretty steady increase until Abyssea's release. Is logic hard for you?
Back then there were very few mmos in the market. Sorry man, things change. And I am sorry, but if you can't understand that a decade old game will lose subs just because of fatigue, and dated graphics, not to mention people getting interested in new games, etc... well, you don't understand what rationality and logic is.

This is a count of active accounts, not characters, btw.
but it had more players and every server was literally full. Almost everyone was put into a queue for logging in. Figaro, on release day, had around 3k players at my time of login. This isn't counting how many were still in queue, or waiting on the Standard edition. Also, to use your argument against you, FFXi sucks more now than it did 3 years ago. =)
How is leveling 1-50 in a day fun!?!? O.o
You know for awhile as i was reading your posts i thought wow maybe FFXI might have gotten a little better after the abyssea content (i left shortly after its release) but now i can see, they just made things worse... rest in piece good FFXI ; ;
which one was without a source? The count before abyssea or the count now? Here's a good source http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart2.html
My statement is still valid, still holds true and still proves that Abyssea hurt FFXI much more than WoW =)
