A Grave State Of Affairs

when game has you MING NUMBINGLY grind for gear in only 2 locations that long and boring, people get agitated and very inpatient. i don't even think in AK/CS anymore i just enter autopilot and sink deep into music i listen while doing them, no challenge whatsoever. AK should drop ilvl70 pieces especially body armour, i don't mind some grind but excessive grind this game has doesn't help anyone, game just NOT FUN. When you hit with realization that to be able to take part in FC BC raids you have to grind away pretty much all your free time.
I'm NOT defending people that being assholes to others, i just think that some of the problems will alleviate with SE respecting free time of players.

Bottom line is this is Internet - there are rude people in it whether we like it or not and theres not a damn thing you and i or SE for that matter can do make them all disappear. This has been ongoing for years its now just more prominent because much more larger interest in gaming and growth of MMO industry.
Im pretty sure everyone here is also exagrerrating the whole issue i myself completed over 40 DF runs and i ran into 2 douchebags so far - their not out there in every corner of map just waiting to ruin your day.

I simply learned to ignore those people few years @ WoW and dealing with those people on daily dungeon runs makes it wash over you like its nothing i certainly wont allow some random kid with emotional disorder to ruin my day and neither should you. I dont argue with them either its like wrestling with pig you both get dirty and pig enjoys it.
Grow some thick skin people for gods sake...or maybe internet isnt a place for you if you get shaken so easily.

Sounds a lot like a guy in my old FC. Loves tossing "selfish" around a lot to describe people that won't fate grind and play the game his way (GET TO 50 NAO OMG) . Ironically he bought his relic wins too. Ironic, and yet unsurprising.

Who the bloody hell uses DF to speed run Prae or CM?

If you do that, ou're an idiot. Simply put. If I join a DF CM or PRae, I'll wait for people to watch CS and take it as a slow run, not a speed run.

ecxept that my DF experience consists/consisted 80% of that, not to mention the ones on the server themself. I have found so far 2 people that are really cool and nice, kind of tragic.

Yeah well in FF11 and other MMOs there was a reason they called linkshells your lifeline. Of course you're going to have a shitty time if you PUG everything. This game is chock full of FCs right now, no matter what server you're on. Go to the recruitment forums and join one that isn't shitty.

I honestly feel bad for people who pugged castrum/praetorium for their story runs. That's no way to do it.

I'm watching this stuff as it happens, and as the healer...good luck telling me otherwise. My roommate is lower level and I go with him to all of the group content and have told him "If you want to watch the cutscenes then watch them. Don't let the rest of the team tell you otherwise". If anyone harasses him about it, I watch the cutscenes with him.

Also, when I took him through Stone Vigil the tank wasn't holding aggro on anything(at the end he admitted he's played for only 10 days and FATE farmed his way up) and the other BLM only spammed Fire III nonstop the whole run and not on the tank's target which made aggro worse. When it got to the final boss and my friend was watching the cutscene they were bitching that we were running out of time and he needs to skip it. I went off on them, saying that if they knew how to play their job we wouldn't have had so many wipes and been short on time. I shouldn't have snapped, but I was at my limit since I WAS actually trying to give them tips throughout the run that they completely disregarded. They told me I should just do my job and let them do theirs(wrong)...<.<

Also, as far as ppl requiring Relics for AK...it's not that hard and AK is one of the requirements to even get a relic in the first place.

Here I see people that work more and get even more stressed while playing.

What's the problem if you die, if you take 10, 20, 30 more minutes to complete a dungeon, if you'll get that shameful black latex subligar that costs 1 month of farming tomorrow instead of today?
You don't have time? Is your life going to end tomorrow? Is the world ending and none said anything to me?
Or are you racing? Against who and for what? Will you profit from "winning"? A win that lasts less than few minutes, maybe seconds, because someone else, somewhere else in the world just gained the same achievement.
A sense of victory that lasts so short that immediately requires more satisfaction… more, more and more until playing is not fun anymore but a drug.

If this is how you "play" make yourself a favour and quit before you burn yourself.

For the people watching the cutscene it may help to set the mood. I also skip cutscenes as I don't want to burden others, but I'm not going to berate someone else if they do want to watch it. Watching at the inn afterwards only goes so far when you don't have the context of your actions before and after anymore. This includes how it made you feel as you knew you were about to do something which could be considered big.

I wonder how many people that pressure new players into skipping cutscenes also watched their own cutscenes the first time they were in a dungeon.

Or other players can not be complete idiots and forum groups on their own server here players wish to rush through those two if they are just going yell at those who want to view the cutscenes during their runs. I was lucky and didn't have groups in the DF mind people watching them if they didn't see them. I would of just left anyway though if someone was yelling at me for something like that though lol. Let the trash have to wait for a a replacement or find a new group.

Heh, no matter how many times I see these topics it still makes me grin, its like watching two kids fighting at the school park, you don't care who wins but you just wanna see the outcome, I used to get annoyed that I couldn't watch the cutscenes cause people wanted to speed through everything, then someone informed me "Hey you can watch them in your inn you know..", that one bit of information turned the tide for me, I don't mind speedruns at all cause I'm always chatting it up with my FC in raidcall, we all have a goal and thanks to this I'm 2 pieces into my DL gear. But I mean its up to the individual I suppose, once the kicking feature is fully implemented making those 5-6 people wait while you enjoy your cutscene could result in you being kicked from the group once they get the feature working. But hey like I said its up to you, I'm sure people don't mind waiting another 20-30 min in the DF to find another group only to repeat the same process and find themselves kicked again.

This all comes down to two groups of people who each play FFXIV for very different reasons.

1) The (FF) RPG-er. Plays for enjoyment. These players tend to value things like adventure, escapism, lore, immersion, danger, exploration, storylines, aesthetics, music, friendly socializing, cooperation, harmony, etc.

2) The Powergamer. Plays for esteem. These players tend to value things like efficiency, server firsts, the best loot, grinding, being part of an elite group, PVP, exploits, 3rd party tools (ie parsers), flashy gear, perfect runs, etc.

These aren't exclusive, mind you. Players are all over the spectrum. But in my experience, the more 'type 2' a player is, the more likely that player is going to be a total asshat

Note: Japan might be the exception as people are generally more polite there and less likely to be vocal with their complaints. This may be why Yoshi-P didn't realize the problems that would arise from building this game to attract type-2s.

If they add the vote to kick without a first timer protection that will be totally abused.

tell the ashats to make a premade group if thats what they want. Once again, if this bothers you, thicken your skin and get some self confidence. The reason they want relic is so its faster and when you go into braindead grind mode your DPS is still reasonable. if your not fully geared, your not at the point of so much AK you cant stand it and button mash, so your DPS may be higher then those geared players who button mash till AK is done.

*Players refusing to group with other players for the purpose of Fate groups because they are not a "AoE Class"

Well, there are plenty of FATE groups who dont require AOE. AOE is better and will always be preferred with the current exp system, deal with it and join one of the other 10 FATE groups which likely dont have this requirement

*Players mocking other players for not knowing all fight mechanics on their first attempt at dungeons.

Only time I have ever seen this is when you dont know and dont say something. Say you dont know and we will tell you mechanics, and if you mess up once or twice no on will care. Now if you mess up the same thing we tell you about in the mechanic time and time again, then maybe you will get yelled at some

*Players constantly demeaning other players in /shout for asking simple questions regarding quests, dungeons, or otherwise.

are there not the type of players that you just blacklist? its basically one of the reasons why the game has a blacklist

well, this is why people have FC/LS/friend list. group up with people you know or now and then you will find this. We all know currently there is too much of this going around, so if you are new to 50 and not geared, take advantage of your FC/LS/.. to avoid them, just as they should be to avoid the new/undergeared they dont want to run with

Things will not change till vote kick, gear score requirements, MVP system and others are added (2.1), and once we have that we can start to see they game change a bit.

Videogames are supposed to be fun, not a pissing contest or a race to see who can burn through the most dungeons in less time and get the best gear and "shinies". I've got enough to deal with outside of game to stress over yet more petty stuff in-game. I play for fun. I play for story. I shall watch my cutscenes in full and not out-of-context like it would be at the inns. I will play at my pace; you may play at yours, we can all be happy. I will help other people who may be new if I have done the content before; it's how you learn. You get experience by experiencing (no way! *gasp* =o) And it's just not worth it to worry over virtual things.....you will eventually burn out, it just takes time. I've been there.

If there was a way to implant knowledge into every player's brain like in The Matrix we'd all be professionals at this game by now, lol. But, oh so boring that would be =)

It's not surprising that the people who rage over people watching cut scenes in duty finder have no friends to help them avoid using duty finder.

This is a good point, and there is no gaurantee that just by being in an FC that people will still treat you differently or nicely. It really has become a "Gang" mentality with guilds/fc's now in MMO's and the minute you step outside the guild mentality is the minute you get kicked or shunned just for trying to establish friendly behavior to the larger community.

That was your choice, they are not meant to be skipped the first time. It completely ruins the atmosphere of the quest. The Inn was designed as tool to re-watch later, not to watch for the first time because some Jabroni can't wait a couple minutes.

the game has been playable for a long time now, there is no excuse to not have completed the story and be fully geared for endgame content

cutscenes don't take that long, I don't know what the big deal is. There are threads about groups that finish CM with 1 tank and 2 people afk. CM isn't hard and one or two persons watching cutscenes aren't going to make the dungeon take longer than it has to.

My experience has been that the people rushing are the ones that make the most mistakes. Usually costing the group a wipe at a boss fight.

This is utterly nonsensical and I can't even fathom how this is logical at all, because it simply is the exact opposite of what logic is.

These players need to leave from the community, sorry to say. It's like they don't even consider that there is a storyline to this game at all, for them it is just the gameplay and they skip all the cutscenes and dialogue, almost as if they really don't mind making things dull and dreary in order to have fun. I'm going to flip this remark around and say that if that's all that matters to you is gear and grinding then you should probably not be playing an MMO either, single player games will suffice. That way you won't have to pester people who enjoy actually using their full brain to enjoy the whole game and not just half of it.

I do not harass people for watching cut-scenes, I help PUG's (DF) kill HM Titan on my spare time, etc. In my opinion, some people just take interaction in MMO's way too seriously. If you want to watch the cut-scene what is stopping you? Just watch it.

If you can't handle text being thrown at you from the other players (be it constructive criticism or anything else) then I don't know.. Maybe this kind of game is not appropriate for you. You know the game where you have to deal with other people.

I do not understand why there has to be a bully thread made every freaking minute. Like grow some skin and stop the whining. Makes me question how some of you deal with real life situations.

I'm decently geared, on Coil turn 5, I want to run with properly geared people in dungeons, I want people to know what they're doing in raid situations. But, I am also not a dick to people. Does that make me an Elitist?

The game hasn't been out that long and some people also had to wait to buy the game due to sale restrictions as well. Besides not everyone plays everyday or many hours on a given day, or just might be taking their time doing all kinds of stuff besides just leveling one class/job to 50 as fast as possible. But okay, let's throw out common sense.

Maybe you should consider people may want to enjoy the cutsences for this MMO's story that the developers worked on? Maybe people shouldn't be idiots and expect everyone to skip the cut scenes in groups they join because they cannot handle a very short time that the person goes through all watching them?

"Elitist" in my opinion are people that ignore everyone that do not fall into their category of "hardcore gamer" and refuse to help others or go over the top with gear examples. Turn 1 Coil has been downed with people using half AK gear and Half DL. Dodging stuff? Some people have lag issues, some people need to practice more than others.

I expected the influx of bad attitudes to flood this game as it has every other MMO that has released since WoW. Which is why I made sure that I would have a friendly FC and linkshells for me to play with (if I so choose, though I prefer leveling by myself). I'm hoping that once subscriptions start kicking in for everyone that the number of rude and immature players will decrease.

I don't mind if others that I'm partied with watch the cut scenes. I'm more than willing to patiently wait for them.

This thread has nothing to do with Coil players who don't even use the duty finder. In a way you are the perfect example of an elitist, as the term is meant to describe people who are so successful they can't even begin to fathom the struggles of those beneath them.

Look this game is not super hard, it does everything to train you from level 1-50 assuming people actually PAY ATTENTION and did their job quests, guildhest, and running all the dungeons from lvl 15-47 over and over, and do easy mode primals several times. By the time you hit level 50, most of the mechanic should be very familiar to you. It is always run to the right, run to the left, run behind the mob, run to the mob, run away from the mob, run from frontal attack, run to the edge of battlefield, run toward the direction of the light, run and hide behind an object/pillar. KILL THE ADDS!!! FAST!! Have your proper rotation buttons, defensive set, offensive set, healing, DoT set, etc.... Reading and looking at the video of the battle before hand will help you greatly, and probably need a couple run to get a hold of the mechanic but overall it is not too challenging if you pay attention.

Seems the vast majority agree that this plague of locusts must be dealt with sooner rather than later so Square Enix it's your move now. Add a mandatory code of conduct as with the introduction of the most valuable player and vote kick feature this is sure to get worse. Giving these cretins the ability to forcefully kick a person if the rest agree on it is good in theory but as the attitude of these fools has shown they will abuse it to punish players who wish to experience the game to it's fullest.

Some suggestions for rules would be...


Verbal harassment via public shaming in the /shout or /yell channels will result in a warning, three warnings and account loses /shout and /yell privileges for 24 hours. Repeated offenses result in exponential punishment. Grievous violations: I.E. threats, racist or other prejudice remarks, and/or attempts to cause detrimental harm to victim's gaming enjoyment and/or reputation (I.E. screaming for everyone to blacklist them or ban them from parties permanently) could result in temporary account suspension.

Damage parsers and other third party programs that monitor or modify the data stream are no longer allowed in any form.

Vote kick abuse via the action of kicking players for inexperience, disagreeing with their gear options (being that a gear requirement is coming into play), or watching cutscenes is a warning, receive five warnings and it's a temporary suspension from the Duty Finder. Repeated offenses would result in temporary account suspension as it is technically a form of harassment.

Vote kick is a limited process, meaning the same person cannot initiate a vote more than a set number of times within 24 hours.

Duty Finder shall be classified as Story Prioritized, while skipping a cutscene is allowed a Boss/Event cannot be engaged until all members are present and all cutscenes have ended.


These are just a few examples, everyone else feel free to add to any you might feel need adding.
