Like I just said in the post, adding the weapon glows is already a decent incentive to allow people to go into rank and work for. Yes, having a way to where everyone of all ranks can work towards getting the glows would be better since it'll keep even the lower tier crowd invested if they get stuck in the lower ranks. I would say that the reward alone has kept Primal ranked queues alive longer than they have been for the last couple of seasons, again can still be better but it's a step in the right direction.

The Reward IS the life support and on its own its no different from casual CC, im not saying to do away with the mode im saying get rid of ranked because CLEARLY its not liked by anybody save for the incredibly small minority and requires incentive for anybody to care.
and when i say history repeating itself i mean; Ranked players are going to constantly complain about there not being enough rewards untill they get glowing/dyable feast armors and its going to annoy the majority causing everybody to ONLY go in for the glam and not ranked itself, that stresses the player base out and nobody wants that. SO rather then recreating that shitstorm, why not focus on expanding the crystal shop and series pass? (and if i recall correctly even when they had the feast armor barely anybody went into ranked.)

I think Ranked would do better if the loss penalty didn't exist, and it would just be a number of wins game to reach top 100.

Could have more players participate into Ranked without the loss penalty.

So how is that supposed to work?

If you say its based purely on wins, where does the skill tiers fall into here? Accirding to this logic, someone who just happens to play enough games and win enough times in Bronze and Silver would be eligible for Top 100 if noone in higher tiers played more than them. How would that be a Top player?

If we abolish skill tiers to make it work, it will be basically no different matchmaking wise than casual, which is a complete mess of games quality, it will be steamrolls or wars of attrition.

If we then were to add hidden MMR to make skill tier matchmaking work, it would feel like people don't know what skillgroup they even belong to because there is no visual indicator what they are and what they are up against.

If you lose enough times it may not necessarily your RNG being bad or your teammates throwing, this may indicate the individual who keeps losing isnt ready for climbing. Not a nice pill to swallow, but better than blaming a system for one's shortcomings.

See the thing in CC ranked is... your individual performance may not actually reflect on your average win rate. Say you're usually on top of kill/assist/damage/crystal time(!) but you still lose due to the rest of the party are getting killed running aimlessly into the enemy team or just sleep/afk, why should the entire team getting hit with rank decay. Normal chat won't fix that issue either sadly.

Although that being said, it'll be hard to tell if you pulled your weight but your team somehow lost either way - maybe something like MVP system that will rank you up regardless if your group has lost the match (depending on if you performed well in one of the crucial departments like crystal time/kill/assists/damage etc. I'm sure that'd take some frustration out of ranked mode - if you put in effort, you should be recognized and receive your rank that matches your skill level and in turn be matched with equal pvp-skill faster.

The new weapons are only keeping ranked players, playing ranked. People who had stopped ranking in previous seasons because there was no incentive.

New players aren't going to pick up casual CC for augmented hellhound, the grind is not worth the effort, and there is no clout in the ownership of weapons which are essentially recolors/variants with particle effects. The feast gear doesn't offer a recolor, and there is clout in wearing those sets.

What will get more people playing ranked? Rewards for playing from top to bottom, exclusive to ranked. Impress people with the rewards for being at the top, on par with ultimate weapons for the effort required to get them.

I do think I am understanding your point with removing ranked, sorry if I phrased it like I was misinterpreting it. And while I do think that ranked should get some kind of extra incentive to attract people to playing it, it should expand that reward to every rank to allow them to progress to getting that reward in some way. Saw a comment in another forum post saying it should just have the Overwatch gold weapon skin system to allow anyone of any rank to progress to getting a glowy weapon and just make that process faster for higher rank people. It's the most middle ground approach to the situation and I think it would be fine. I also think that Crystal Shop should get expanded rewards along with better series pass rewards cuz man most of these rewards for general PvP have been mid lately. However, I don't think the designing for the glows had taken a lot of time to actually make and didn't impeded the creation of new armor and weapons (I don't know actual game development process, I just assume based off the quality of the glows themselves so I can totally just be wrong. I do genuinely think they should focus more on the casual side rather than ranked but I don't think dropping rank entirely would be wise unless they are somehow pressed for budget. But seeing as how this is the biggest title that is singlehandedly funding almost all of SE's projects I assume they would have enough.

The only thing that is similar between the two is the guides that focuses on maximizing your DPS.

Other than that they're 2 different things. PvP is getting the necessary restrictions in order for things to go fully solo (for some odd reason), while you're actually required to create a premade party if you want to do current ultimate/extreme/savage since completing them using duty finder is nonexistent.

But this is very clearly and factually incorrect. Players on JPN servers do ultimates/extreme/savage and complete them using duty finder every single day. Solo, with random team mates, without any addons installed, and on PS4 controllers.

In what way is ranked mode not the PvP equivalent to the most challenging PvE content? Let's even concede and say you are correct in making these claims; what then do you consider to be the most challenging PvP content that IS designed in the same vein as the the most challenging PvE content?

I think the only things ranked should get are what they getting now+ furniture items, thats it. *yes i think ranked should get future weapon glows.*
if they start getting armors its gonna be quite literally feast all over again, everybody is gonna be nagging about how ranked sucks and why do they get all these cool armors while they do not update the wolfmark shop at all. 16 freaking seasons of this by the way.

That is JPN. NA operates on a different set of rules. Unless you have your own static to be in blind runs are not allowed. You have to know the fight already prior to entering. Again, duty finder is dead. In the extreme rare case that you are able to get an extreme popping (usually through a mentor doing mentor roulette) someone will explain the benefits of doing the hard fights in party finder before quitting if they don't feel like doing it.

In my opinion crystal conflict is frontlines 2.0. It cannot be compared to ultimates/extremes/savages. You are comparing pure killing instances to objective-based instances. The pve stuff it's either kill within the time limit or be killed. CC your win condition is based on who pushed the crystal away from the starting point the furthest. Kills cannot be a major factor, especially in low rank where you can easily be punished for playing feast while letting the other team push. Speaking of which, feast is a better option for comparing that to the hard pve things (not factoring rewards. That's a totally different topic.).

I don't think they are saying the objectives of high end pve and pvp are the same. They are saying it more of has to deal with being the hardest piece of content in the respective game modes. Whether you deem something like CC's objective gameplay to be a proper measure of that skill or something like Feast which was more combat focused is up to you. (If you wanna get really technical with it, Feast is technically also objective based with how the medal pick up part of the mode but generally it is still a lot more combat focused).

To your first point, the fact is that SE is not going to make two separate types of a game mode tailored to each region just because a particular region decided not to play the game the way it was intended. Regardless of whether or not NA "operates on a seperate set of rules" XIV is a Japanese game and will be made with a particular way of play in mind, which is the way the JPN playerbase is playing (on console, without installing addons, using party finder for practice, and duty finder for clearing content with random players). So I'd imagine this will extend to PvP's design as well (using casual for practice, and ranked for "clearing" the content with random players).

To your second point, I beleive you may have this opinion because of what I mentioned at the outset; the amount of time investment required to even begin to start scratching the surface of how to play the game mode is enormous. Not to belittle your experience (that is not my intent here), but as I mentioned before the average player would need over a thousand wins at least to begin to truly and fundamentally understand how CC works in the higher echelons of play.

There are certain aspects that you dont even begin to understand the value of until you have that much experience, such as; pushing crystal most of the time is not necessary, your HP is also a resource and must be used to pad for your allies (you cant avoid taking damage all game then blame your random team mates for them dying), your k/d/a score at the end of the game means less and less the higher you climb.

I see people here complaining about how they spent the most time on crystal, highest damage, highest heals, no deaths and still lost the game. This tells me they have a novice understanding of the fundamentals.

Their damage was top because they are on the crystal fighting 1 enemy the entire game while their team is losing skirmishes off the crystal. If you're sitting on crystal with max uptime on another novice who thinks its time to push crystal, of course youll be top damage and heals on yourself. Even worse if you play an AoE based job like DRG, RPR, SMN, SCH but never join the team fights because youre always 1v1ing on the crystal. This is almost a garaunteed loss.

There are so many more things to learn, and when I read that you consider ranked CC as "just Frontline 2.0", the only way I can understand that point of view is if it comes from a person who has not experienced the higher ended and more nuanced gameplay of ranked because I once felt the same way before I began taking it seriously (and no, crystal rank in season 1 through 3 does not count as there was no way to de rank for a loss and you could just sit and wait for a luck streak to carry you to the next teir). I would never say something like "ultimates/extremes/savages are just leveling roulette 2.0" as it would be a great disservice to everyone who poured countless hours into those content to be good at them, only one who does not have the experience could possibly think in this way.

Matchmaking would probably be slightly better if win rates were to be taken into account instead of just current queuing class and current rank. We have what we have. It is what it is at this point. Secondly it's the mode itself. Kills do lead to wins, but it's as you said: KDA means less and less the higher you go. Regardless, many value this for how well they done in an objective game. Also, let's be honest here. They made it way easier to kill from pressuring. Depending on what rank you're at you're just not going to see many (if at all) kills from bursts/nukes until mid diamond at least. I love CC to death, but I just don't see exactly how it is a good replacement for feast, successful or not.

All that being said I'm not on your level, and with the way I farm more aggro than rank these days I'm pretty certain I'm not going to be there for a while if at all. I'm not afraid to admit that. I'm good enough to at least separate myself from the casuals. Yet I'm bad enough to be barred from enjoying high level games. Most of everyone using the pvp forums has probably hit Crystal or experience Crystal gameplay for at least a season. Meanwhile, I've never touched Crystal before, and I only have 3 hours of experience at most with Crystal games before I was shoved back down to the dead queues. Not exactly sure how I can personally improve in general at this point. Casual mode doesn't give me the immediate feedback, regardless of games being put in due to too many blowout games.

Unless you are VERY lucky you will make more progress in a Ultimate raid then you will ranked in a day, not to mention you will probably feel better about completing a ultimate raid then you will hitting crystal.

A less joking answer, I think both have a subjectively different/equal amount of time disrespect if that makes any sense. Raids this expansion have felt incredibly disrespectful to the time investment, especially when you get horribly designed later phases that also just have bugs at launch when the game has traditionally not had them. Meanwhile PvP has times where you can get hardstuck in a certain rank for a while and not having any clear way for you to get out of that rut. Granted though, that's more of a problem with PvP in games overall rather than XIV's PvP specifically. If I had to choose, i'd rather do ranked with complete randoms with some attempt to least win a fight with my own skill than just depend on several other people to do Death of the Heaven's correctly and not die to the team jump rope mechanic.

What is funny to me is if they spent 5% of the time they do complaining on the PVP forums and instead, played PVP and focused on improving their skill, they'd probably be a really good player and would have gotten all the rewards a long time ago.

Just explain to me how the ranked people getting bonus rewards affects your gameplay experience if you don't play it.

The answer for me is ranked pvp, even though it's not respecting my time for a lot of reasons as well, mainly seasons releasing at the same time as savage/ultimates, and just shit days where you drop back to the bottom of plat because whatever (but ultimates also have those, and enough of them and your static will start having drama, get toxic and/or explode).

I can definitely do more than "picking from the ranked elitist communal insult bucket" as you call it, but hell will freeze over before I stay silent over spreading misinformation or being accused of things that I am not. My only vice is that I don't say things in a nice tone and I am sorry for that.

Hell will freeze over before you accept being accused of being what you are not, but it wont freeze over before you accuse other people of the same, which you had done to me previously.

If you had responded in the same way you had on that thread then I would have had more respect for you, or to not have posted to this thread at all, especially having had previous interactions which would make it obvious that further conversation with them would be a wasted effort.
