This is why I'm proposing it in a new housing area. So that for those that want to keep the wards feel to them, have at it, you got it (but be advised it's likely to be more limited). For those who just want a house for their FC for example (for things like airships and gardening), well, that's also an option. But it won't have the ward feeling. I also figured that done this way, they wouldn't have to touch that spaghetti code to try and fix it, and instead just salvage what they can from inn rooms (dynamic generation) and houses (for the decoration side) and smash them together into one new chunk of code. Is it a flawless solution? No. But, given the situation, I don't know what else we can do.

All the code, except for dynamic increase of instances (which shouldn't be too difficult to write, seeing as it would only make a check here or there and either copy a set data or not copy it), is already in the game.
Most importantly, there are apartments that are instanced locations which players can customize.

I don't want to hear this "inside or outside" crap. There is no such thing in this game. It's just graphical talk, there is zero difference for the games engine. Every instance have its set parameters, and the only difference between "inside" and "outside" is how the parameter that allows or denies certain pieces of furniture be placed is set. The other differences are superficial, in that they decided to make the outside a large instance with exits into many smaller instances. That have nothing to do with the code at all. It's just how they designed it, and there is zero reason why they couldn't do a single-plot sized instance with a single exit into a single "inside" space. The entirety of the code exists.

Why they are not doing it is clear. Money. Housing with customization does require significant amount of computing power and drive space. They would NEED to buy new physical servers to match the demand. And they find the expenses exceeding the gain. Simple as that. Everything they say about how it's not possible or whatever are just excuses to shush as many people as possible. It's a business. They lie. That's normal. As long as they lie as to why they don't bring something that they never did make a promise for, there is nothing "wrong" with that.

The only solution is to hope that whatever bonzos at Square Enix treat Final Fantasy XIV as cash cow for other projects will finally see it as a stand-alone game that should be invested in more significantly from the huge funds it earns, instead of moving that money into multiple unrelated crap-games.

I wouldn't say it's the same setup with houses that we have here, given how limited their housing is feature-wise (and in terms of customization, which I remember players asking the devs for freeform item placement and they were told that the impact on the server would be an issue and that's why they went with the hook system that only accepts certain types of items in certain hooks. and the lack of being able to access the auction house from those zones.

Moving forward, they should absolutely be looking at systems that dynamically scale...but they already mostly do that anyway with FC rooms and apartments (none of those are loaded in until a player access them) and work on figuring out how to get the few features that can't currently be accessed from these non-permanent instanced housing bits (like cross-breeding in gardening...you can already grow stuff, just can't cross-breed) working within those dynamically loading systems (along with providing more size options)...

And from the comments in various interviews, that's likely the kind of stuff they'll be looking at after 4.2 anyway.

Pretty big difference between the insides (which are ALL dynamically loaded based on when a player is there or not, for every house in the game) and the outsides, which are always loaded, even when a player isn't there. And it's setup that way because of certain features the game allows players to access in that area (like the Market Board). I'm sure it's possible they could make it so those outside areas also dynamically load and connect all the relevant stuff...but what does that do for the stability of the feature/zone/server when it has to do that for 72 different zones?

Ignoring that and acting like there is no difference is just putting your head in the sand.

The one thing that stood out to me is the proof that SE is going to mess up the new housing wards.

Yoshida says "everyone can get a house fair and square!" But then in this interview says "we don't want people to make any initial preparations." The fact that he's worried about people making "preparations" makes it pretty clear to me that not everyone will be able to get a house. I interpret the statement "everyone can get a house fair and square" as meaning anyone with the gil shall be able to get a house, period. Anything less than that is completely unacceptable.

That was an intentional dodge of the question because I haven't researched every single MMORPG out there. The ones I know of don't do it. And I am not willing to research every single MMORPG in existence (I'm already busy dealing with simulation games, to try and help improve my dexterity).

Anyways, back to the crux of my post. Rather that looking at what other MMORPG does it and carbon copy it, why don't we focus on making it the first to do it? Why does everything have to be something a previous MMORPG has done? I agree, my previous posts were so badly phrased and factually incorrect it's worthy of a permanent ban without appeal from the game and forums (as well as Square Enix suing me for $500 octodecillion, and being permanently banned from every game in the world past/present/future, whether single player or multiplayer, without appeal) and I apologise for that false statement, but that was borne out of frustration of seeing other games seemingly get it right (for example LOTRO has wards that dynamically generate, WildStar with its instanced housing, etc), and yet all we get is constantly told "Technical limitations". That being said, when you say "What other MMORPG does this?", that's how other people will see it, even though it was basically a natural response to the way I'd phrased the quoted post you were responding to.

Frankly, hearing "technical limitations" all the time is deflating and gives off the feeling of "Well what on earth are they doing?", and while I have done software development in the past myself (though not to a level anywhere near as advanced as FFXIV) and can understand the nightmares of "spaghetti code", it's definitely something worth investing in. Isn't this part of the reason why we dropped the PS3 for example, to help move the game forward? It's why I put forward ideas on how to progress it and make it work. Housing continues to become a bigger and bigger thorn in the playerbase's side. There has to be a way to do it, it's why I suggested ideas on how to move forward, making use of existing infrastructure where we could, and putting it forward. Players don't see the intricate limitations in the other games, all they see is "Well, they can do it, why can't FFXIV?", and frankly, I sometimes feel that way too, despite having dabbled in software dev myself (having taken the approach that anything can be done if you try hard enough. With my code, that means it must be perfect even at the expense of my own physical/mental health, health is secondary to perfect code. Yes, that contributed to me losing my last job because I did essentially destroy my mental health with the standards I set. They've been ingrained for 10+ years, I'm not able to simply shake them off.).

The problem is, FC rooms and apartments don't give access to the workshop, which is why we need an instanced housing solution for FCs. Not to mention FCs cannot buy apartments anyway. Right now, the solution basically gives FCs with large houses a huge advantage. There's no large plots available (and from what I've seen on Louisoix, nobody is willing to sell any large plots for any price). Without a large house, there are limits on things like "How many gardening areas can you have?", "How many crafting facilities can you have out at once?" (speaking of those facilities, they need upgrading, but that's a separate topic I will tackle at a later date). If nobody is willing to sell a large house (and let's be fair, the grey area with the ToS will put people off), then these FCs without them, are suddenly put at a disadvantage that they have no hope of fixing unless they get lucky. Indeed, on most realms, all housing is taken up already. The solutions SE put in like what we believe to be a lottery system on housing to prevent it being simply "Who can get here first?" when the servers come back up feel like meaningless gestures to the greater problem of lack of supply. I think it's understandable that people are getting tired of it.

The problem is, SE don't want to lift those limits on smaller houses, because it then loses the appeal of a large house. And I can understand that in a way, but something really needs to be done about it. Perhaps keeping the lower item limits would be enough? I don't know. That's why people peddle the need for instanced housing. Because these extra wards are simply an almost useless band-aid to the problem at hand (in the grand scheme of things anyway). It's why they peddle for account limitations (not just character limitations). SE adding a few more wards is just a band-aid fix that lasts all of about 15 minutes. It's not fixing the core of the issue.

I hate this idea, i hate that i want it to help alleviate some housing issue from my limited and probably erroneous perspective. I think a solution could be instanced housing via the mog station. Buyers would be able to purchase manors or keeps, variants as a home for... ahem... reasonable prices. The keep it's self would only offer more area to decorate (added floors, possibly a second sub building or area, or expanded yard or garden). Primary caveats being not able to produce any more from gardening, or any other aspect to overshadow in game housing. The home itself would be primarily just for gatherings and cosmetics. They would be excluded from any in game decoration contest, ect...

Please cite your source where Yoshi says he regrets showing the Viera concept. I have only seen where he regrets showing the bike because that will never(his words) be added.
Last I saw him say about the Viera was that they were working on how to get the feet to work with footgear currently in the game.

I think he's talking about the way housing currently works allows players to have 1 house per character and 1 house for their FC.

That's basically two possible houses per character as long as their character has enough rank.

Have you not been paying attention to the Return to Ivalice raid? The previously Ivalice-exclusive races of Seeq and Bangaa now canonically exist in FFXIV. It is no longer a remote stretch for them to add Viera to the game.

Tell you what. We'll stop calling bullshit on their excuses when SE cuts the subscription costs in half. If games far older than FFXIV can make these adjustments, what's stopping SE? It took four years for them to even mention overhauling the archaic glamour system yet WoW accomplished that in 2011, one year following 1.0's release and two years after ARR launched. WoW, comparatively, runs on systems designed thirteen years ago. It's also widely known XIV has a limited budget so SE can fund other projects despite it being their most profitable venture by a mile. So we're not necessarily faulting Yoshida himself, though some of his more recent discussions have been... questionable.

If they are going to charge a competitive price and continuously add stuff to the cash shop, we're well within our right to complain when features keep getting pushed aside. It's especially bad when they advertised Shirogane as a selling point for Stormblood and it became a disaster.

FFXIV was sub-contracted to hell to a company that originally called chocobos "horse-birds" and used a cut and paste landscape to try and give a feeling of expanse. Bedrock foundation vs filled in swampland.

Yes the glamour system sucks. GW2 is the only game I've seen get that entirely right: account wide, unlocked forever, free dye use forever. I would be super duper happy if that happened. But once again. whole different game with different infrastructure and coding. I don't think asking for a Maserati engine in my nissan leaf is a great idea. .. AND they're overhauling it like we asked, so lets see where that goes before condemning it shall we?


well within your rights to ask for whatever, sure. But keep in mind reasonable expectations. We aren't getting *insert other games system for thing* anytime soon. We're going to get SE branded , limited resource, "please look forward to it", thing.

There is NOTHING in the cash-shop you need to play the game , and it's debatable that you'd even need anything from there to enjoy the game . This game costs about as much as a netflix subscription or a single fairly priced meal for an entire month. That's enough value for me , if it's not for you I suggest you , once again, stop paying for something you don't think is worth what you're paying for.

Except it isn't unreasonable. Their initial solution to housing was more expensive FC rooms, and when asked about larger sizes outright acknowledged they never even considered it. Regardless, how about just being candid. The devs are notorious for saying very little, which only fuels the fire. If housing is such an issue, don't market it with your expansion. Those frustrations are only amplified when they specifically relocated the systems only for them and the launcher to implode, causing the disaster that was Shirogane. I don't doubt there are limits to what they can do, but their word isn't the gospel either. We've had plenty of instances where resources were simply wasted on pointless additions like LoV and Diadem.

And I only brought up the cash shop because it's another source of income, thus people are disgruntled when they're given nebulous responses when asking for improvements to the current systems. Hell, people want Lyse's outfit to be dyeable. Are we going to argue that's just too difficult?

It doesn't matter.

Here's the thing about being in a job; you have to deliver a product. No one wants to hear how hard it is to make the product, or the vagaries of your code, or what have you. You either deliver on the features you promised, or you lose trust. In this case, offering player housing that everyone has a chance to have. And at the design phase, you need people to ask you "is what you want to make feasible?" Like if they had made instanced apartments instead of houses, that's feasible, and apartments really work well for single player housing. Or if they did .dot hack's instanced guild halls. But for some reason, devs never seem to have these guys. So we get features that they cn't support or don't foresee serious issues with.Saying how hard it is doesn't change the fact you screwed up in the first place by not thinking.

I am in no way saying their system is the right way. Yes, in the end they are selling a product and nobody cares how hard it was to make. However there are a lot of people giving absolutely useless feedback such as, "this game did it better. Do that." with no idea of how insane that request is. Asking a pizza place to stock a particular type of pepperoni because the other pizzeria does and it tastes good isn't the same as telling a pizza place they should have beef wellington because some other restaurant does. There are methods of preparation and equipment needed to make that work that just aren't present and likely aren't within budget to acquire or implement. In this case the pepperoni would be say "hey you should put green armor in the game" VS the beef wellington being "Hey you should instance all housing and add terraces to apartments". I will say though I think they're misunderstanding what we want terraces for. I don't think the population of apt dwellers cares that much about outside decorations so much as being able to crossbreed plants.

Once again though, if a product isn't what you want, don't buy it. They ARE responsible for putting out a reasonable implementation of promises made when presenting the product (agreed that housing was badly done) , but we are responsible for deciding that "hey, this isn't worth it, you're not getting my money".

They aren't scrapping the housing system. Enough people are using it and will continue to use it that it's highly unlikely they'll ever trash it . Apartments work well, and only on the most populated servers are they all used up. We have a framework that they're scaling up (remember we also get more apartments with new wards) so I'm hopeful they're getting the idea and people will support more reasonable requests like instanced greenhouses and FC workshops instead of asking for something completely out of scope and new acquisition intensive like reworking the entire system.

Instanced Housing is a cakewalk. Also I my wallet is ready for larger premium homes that use the feature. Money talks, the rest walks. NEVER underestimate what players are willing to spend on housing they can use. And judging by the number of RPers and decorators I've seen in FFXIV, SE is sitting on a literal goldmine.

Just got to get through marketing and execs. They'll simply tell the devs to make it happen. Or find one who can.

I was being intentionally hyperbolic towards the excuse "we can't do all this things other games older than ours can". That had nothing to do with the devs and was directed towards SE itself. If they're going to charge competitive prices yet not deliver a comparable product, people are going to take issue.

And while I don't deny forums can breed some nasty comments, that article comes across a little... poorly. Perhaps it's simply my interpretation, but it sounds more like he only wants positive feedback. Furthermore, negativity and toxicity are not the same thing. Neither here nor reddit have been toxic for the most part in regards to housing, just highly critical. Being told, "we're working on" feels a touch hollow when this issue has persisted for over a year and nothing has been done. I'm with you on the "what did they think was going to happen?" part for housing release day. It's happened every time and will continue to happen if they do these "starter gate" type of releases. This is one of the things they say they're addressing though, so fingers crossed.

I didn't get "don't tell me negative things" from that post though:
"If you can't contribute something positive to the conversation, or there's a chance you're speaking out of blind ignorance, just find something else to do."
Doesn't mean "only say nice things". It means contribute. Suggest a solution out of educated experience. "DO WHAT THIS GAME DOES" is not helpful. "I like the way this works in this game, maybe we could do this similar thing that works with the established mechanics of our own game?" is. "I don't like this thing" is feedback, but not all that useful.

I dunno about you, but I see a hell of a lot of toxicity in these forums, "lol the game sucks and is dying, SE white knight go suck more SE D(&^" pops up a lot. I always ask why those people are still here and haven't gotten a reasonable answer yet. People attack each other, insult each other and tell them how dumb they are for thinking some way without any sort of counter argument or proposed solution to the problem. They use the forum to put others down and contribute nothing. "LOL NO THAT'S STUPID". Not criticism, just an insult.

Housing issues have been known since like not too long after it was first implemented, you cannot tell me they have not had the time to look into it, rather they do not care about it much/low priority.
All they are doing next housing patch is adding more wards, and apartments, etc.. I hate always repeating myself but instanced and non-instanced mix is the only way to go.

I even specifically said in that topic that particular piece doesn't interest me at all. The topic was about unlocking the styles all around, but congratulations I guess for turning it into a personal insult based off of bias.

What is it with this overall toxicity and vitriol towards the Miqo'te race, it's so common, is it really so terrible many players like something that you don't?

It's partly that reason I changed off of Miqo'te. The number of people I run into that dislike me solely for being a cat girl was unreal. The sheer number of insults and the amount of times I got told I was a boring unoriginal cat because, in their opinion, all cats look the same. You're entitled to your opinion but it would be nice to hear it without the insults, the kind that make you feel as if you're belittled for playing a particular race.

I remember one time I created a Miqo'te and asked a friend for feedback and instead of getting any constructive criticism, all I got was, "Ehh... it's another cat. They're all the same to me."

Try being Miqo'te and on Balmung! The sheer amount of idiotic responses that get tossed at you just because of either your race or location is absurd. I figure if that's the route they're going to take in a conversation, they're not worth much of my time.

Ultimately it doesn’t matter what he did or did not mean by the quote. My point still stands, everyone being able to get a house so long as they have the gil is the only acceptable solution to the housing situatikn. The player base should not settle for anything less than that.

I'll always support the positive feedback, which doesn't mean "a nice comment with a smiley emote as a signature", but actual constructive criticism. Within the system's limitations and with a degree of common sense. Like making certain things dyables, which is the recent complaint/suggestion. The community managers recently approached the players asking what sets of gears we would like to make dyable. If that's possible or not, that will be up to them.

I really don't know how hard would be to overhaul the whole system to satisfy the demand from players, I'm not a developer and I have zero idea about their system. However, as a customer, instead of parroting like any YouTuber/Other_player would say, I will try and voice my complaints and suggestions as good as I can. Like I said above, if it's possible or not, the developers themselves will have the last word.

I have no issue with Miqo' te as a character race (Y'shtola being among my favorite of npc's), for the most part it's the players that take part in the more questionable hobbies that give the race it's unfortunate stigma.

However i will admit in hindsight that was far to focused and unnecessary. Apologizing would be disingenuous, and removing the comment would be the same as trying to erase the error. The comment simply should not have been made.

I will simply say it was in made response to the times i have had certain individuals claim that the Viera race was a mistake to implement by those biased to having more bestial race options.
