I run it for fun too. I spammed Weeping back when it came out long after I got my tokens or even when Dun Scaith released just because I like most 24 mans. :D

That's it... Ran it more than 30 times last week and almost 10 this week. So this is more than 40 times. I only saw TWICE some bard armor. The belt last week and the body yesterday which I lost at rolls against a first timer who joined us at last boss (Yes, I almost cried)... That means 40 hours in 15 days doing ONLY the raid for NO LOOT at all. There is something wrong and I really think I'm done with it.
(Even If I'm the kind of player who is ok to help and explain to first timers, you can't expect every player to be that patient after 40runs of the raid. Don't ask why some of us players are less and less patient when you have to farm some content again and again like if the game was free to play...)
I can assure you that's the truth. I spent all last week doing only the raid and the new dungeon for my bard loot and still have none of them... So at this level, it's not even a question of rng !
While it's unfortunate...yes, it is a question of RNG. That's all there is to it...RNG. Period. I've had RNG hate me before when it comes to these 24 mans and have gone without a drop for at least a week on more than one occasion. It sucks, and it is super frustrating sometimes, but that's just the way it goes. I'm not saying that a token system or something would be a bad idea, just that the current system is one I don't really have a problem with. Gotta keep people running it somehow, otherwise it'll be dead content sooner rather than later.
They actually do have a token system you know?
Did you know that in the past that the "coats" and "twines" would be a piece of loot that counted as your weekly loot? But, that caused issues cause everyone would pass everything else and go for that.
I guess they could do something like that with the armors too? They really want to keep us occupied though. This game is about busy work. They could just give you all 450 of your creation tomes after one run of a expert roulette but they aren't doing that either.. :( (Though, I kind of wish they would)
It's not only rng. I mean, rng is ok for me and I guess for every player of this game. But it's gone too far. Only 2 pieces of armor on last chest but 3 orchestrion rolls and 2 cards? I mean, come on. Ok they want players to do the raid many times. But I'm pretty sure players will leave it if they can't have their weekly loot even after spending 30 hours in it. Yoshida said 2 live letters ago something like "we don't want players to spend all their time on FF 14". Spending more than 30 hours doing the raid for my weekly loot is not something that casual players can do. And I think the raid is mainly here for them who can't go to savage Omega or else. Anyway, I'm not the only player pointing the loot issue since last patch. So once again, rng is ok but will it still be ok in 2 years with 2 or 3 more jobs and still the same amount of loot in chests...? I don't think so
Other than NIN which was released a couple years ago, DRK, AST, MCH, SAM, RDM didn't actually inflate the loot pools other than weapons (They fixed this by having tokens for them for the really sought after weapons, all others there are alternatives for). They just added those jobs into existing sets.
Anyways I think Yoshida mainly means gearing for progression that he doesn't want people to spend all time in game for. The tome gear is basically RNG protection in addition to the savage books, and the token to get the upgrade item you only have to do the raid once a week to get. So lets say each dungeon takes 30 minutes. 5 days x 30 minutes = 2hr 30 min per week capping max. Run Rabanastre to the end once and clear. We'll go with it taking 2 hours maybe you get into a bad group and have to run it again, or you get in prog and only have to do 2 bosses. So you can end up at cap ilvl for most slots (minus weapon but that is eventually going to come, 340 at least) just spending 5hr 30 min a week +queue times for a couple months and you don't even have to raid.
A one time 7 runs of delta 4.0 to get the token for weapon, 10-15min once a week for 7 weeks.
Once you bring glamour and fluff into the conversation that goes completely out the window (Astrope, Centurio Tiger, Ex primal mounts, super rare glamours with layers and layers upon RNG to get the mats for usually from Aquapolis/Lost Canals)
I think they should revise the loot from 24-man's into a very broad voucher system such that it's rare for something to be useless to the entire group. Basically every boss drops a single item per party, but that item is something like 'voucher: body' or 'voucher: belt' that can be traded for the appropriate item for any class. Making the vouchers so broad should make it so that they're almost always usable by some/ multiple people in the group and half of the party should walk away with something each run. Statistically people will still usually need to run multiple times to get an item that they want, but it's far less likely to require a dozen runs or so, even when looking for just one or two slots.
Honestly the only issue I have with 24 mans is the belts. Please, please remove the belts, especially in the older content where its collected only for glamour.
Wouldn't mind if you could trade the weekly coins for specific pieces of gear. Say 3 for body or legs, 2 for helm/gloves/boots, 1 for belt.
Lot of us only want the gear for glamour purposes anyway and have no further need for upgrade items on the jobs we play.
Yes, since Heavensward, belts were considered accessories in a sense, by which I mean the upgrade item for the tome-bought ones are the same. This, in conjecture with most 24-man gear being reduced to glam and gc seal fodder (and sometimes desynth fodder) in later expansions, means that continuing to have belts in the raids now is rather superfluous. Then count in the fact that the belts are part of a pool that RNG selects from, and you're only going to aggravate people trying to get something for an alt class when the belts drop for the umpteenth time that day.
I would certainly be in favor of the belts being removed and the pools being reshifted to improve matters.
Oh really? You're the one who don't understand me. The only thing you respond is "bla bla, RNG, bla bla" I said I'm ok with rng. And yes, I play many MMOs, most of them are free to play so yes, I know what farm is, I know what rng is. That's why, for me, rng on FF 14 is stupid. Because of the lack of content, they put some idiot rng with bad loot table so players can farm it again and again and again without rewarding them.
That's it. An exemple:
You're BLM and you're doing the raid. In your team there is also a RDM and an INV... That means your chance to have a loot is lower than before stormblood.
Same with MNK and SAM.
So yes, only NIN loot is specific to their job since Heavensward (with DRG i guess) but more jobs are "sharing" their loot now and that's a problem with the actual system. Tokens are great and will less impact the fact that players will not do the content everyday than the current system which don't reward a player who run it more than 30 times.
Not really. Even before they added those jobs sometimes you would end up with 3 or 4 of the same role in the same group anyway. (Sometimes people leave immediately when they see their group has multiple competition, this was before even HW was released) I will admit that dps gets screwed if they end up with a lot of the same jobs but you can bypass this by doing a premade. One of the problems is when the raid is new, no one has a lot of the gear yet, by week 3-4 even if you have say 3 red mages in the group, it's possible some of them might already have what you want on them (so if the other two rdms are wearing the body you win by default if they stay the entire run and it drops), which means they can't roll on it, lowering the competition even if it is the same job.
This said, what's the point of doing the raid the first 2 or 3 weeks then ? No need to pay a sub when there is new content if i can't loot anything, don't you think ?
My answer is silly...? Well, so is yours (no offence ^^). I mean if it's this hard to have a weekly loot the first few weeks of a content, then YES, there is a problem with the loot system. Players want/need new stuff when it's new, not 3 or 4 weeks later when a newer is here.
Yeah no where did I say your answer is silly. I'm pretty sure there are people getting stuff they want in the first week. I also never said that the loot system has no problems. Actually, I said the system is bad last time I posted. First you said the RNG, then you started talking about other random people screwing your chances so I said your chance goes up if you go in a premade where you are the only role, or it goes up overtime because people get things. Never said it is fine and dandy.
the earlier in the cycle the more options you have as well. i've been trying to get the BRD body piece since week 1, after like 6 runs the first week i gave up and rolled on caster pants, after like 12 runs this weekend i gave up and rolled on caster body.
the first week i ran on my alt and saw the BRD body piece drop to the ground. people want stuff, they don't need it. if they need it for Savage after 3 months, they don't really need it.
So you complain at the games RNG?
Personally, I just don't feel like I'm being rewarded for the amount of time spent when it comes to the RNG system (or rather, the reward does not feel like it's worth my time/effort).
A system like tomestones could work though:
You get 1x Raid Tome at the end of a run and can have a maximum amount of [x] Tomes at any given time (x = the number of Tomes needed for the most expensive piece or per piece). You can spend these Tomes at a special vendor once per week, but if you've already obtained your loot from rolling then you won't be able to make any purchases til weekly reset - vice versa.
- Reason for capping the number of tomes so people can't farm it all in one week and just spend tomes at every other reset.
- I personally recommend 8 tomes max, I just don't see the Rabanastre gear (being non-upgradeable at 330) worth anymore than that.
Continuing on...
An issue that may arise is an overabundance of different tomes when newer raids get released, but may be addressed by converting the raid to a token system akin to ex-primals once a new tier has been introduced or the weekly limit is lifted and implement the Tome system on the newest raid instead (after flushing the number of tomes players accumulated before the patch of course).
- Once the previous raid has been switched to a token system, they can be used to purchase other rewards (orchestrion rolls, minions etc.) as well.
I was surprised to get to the last boss and have him drop two gloves. I thought the last boss always dropped either chest or legs??? I found that really dumb.
I had the same problem OP (except on SAM). Not sure how many times I ran, probably close to 20 times, but it took 10 days to finally get a drop. In that time frame I saw the belt twice (once was very first run so I didn't pick it up, 2nd time lost with a 3 roll ._.), boots once (already have genji boots), and finally the chest piece dropped this last Sunday. Didn't even get loot the first week. But anyways..
I thought about this a bit and I think the best solution would be to have 1 normal weekly restricted, and being awarded 1 token per run that can be exchanged for one more piece of chosen loot each week. Exchange rates similar to other token gear (4 belt, 6 head/hands/feet, 8 chest/legs) would encourage people to keep running throughout the week instead of just 1 & done. Also would help keep people from dropping out halfway through after they get their drop. IDK, I think they could make it work though.
Nah. Each piece of gear can drop from two separate bosses in the raid. Chest can drop from 3rd and 4th.
Can check the loot list here: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes...y/ae1bf71a899/
They changed it sometime after ARR because people were leaving immediately after the one boss that dropped what they wanted if it didn't drop. The bard body from the 2nd boss in WoD one of the main ones where I saw this happen a lot. Bards would just peace out if it didn't drop.
