It's been confirmed we'll be paying for subs after experiencing 1.20 for ourselves to see if we feel the game is worth even a sub fee of any nature.
a penny? Neither Tanak nor Wada nor Yoshida gave me my collector's copy for free. Which turned out to be a piece of ****.
They are not meaningless demand I guess everyone gets it even those who don't speak English (including SE) and their board and their shareholder but those die hard fan boys still don't.
THE GAME WITHOUT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ON NOW WILL NEVER SURVIVE
I think they want to use the new job content as the proverbial carrot on the stick to try and get people to pay. That is why pay to play starts prior to new job system.
Pretty disheartening. Doesn't give me a lot of hope.
Oh yes, you're completely right - devs are Gods who should never be questioned, I mean, look at the perfection that was FFXIV at launch! It's not like us silly customers could have said anything which would've improved that utter masterpiece! Us customers should've just sat here and paid $15 a month starting at launch because we have no right to call out service for being sub-par or a product for being broken. We certainly have no right to expect information (which was promised to us over a month ago) to be given in a timely manner! No sir-ee, we should just hand over our money to Square like good sheep because they deserve a pat on the back for the amazing product we have in our hands right now!
Imbecilic indeed. How about you think before you post next time?
Why they have said if you don't want to pay for 1.20 then don't... if you want to come back for 1.21 then you can and if you still don't like it then don't pay and wait... they are not holding anything out in front of you. If anything you are doing that to yourself really... but then you humans do that to yourselves all the time really...
The cat is bemused =-.-=
Then don't pay and wait till you do feel like it is or could be. No one is holding a gun to your head and making you pay to play... I don't understand why you humans keep bringing this up as if someone is pulling the money from you and you can not stop them.

Those aren't secrets. talking about iphones and technology in general most of the time the information isn't released because there are no hard specs yet, most everything, once the specs are finalized will be available at that time for anyone to read. You can easily get scripts from the internet and various sources for films, although who ever is giving out the information means they are breaking contract with their producers/film company/directors, but it is out there.
Also Roland, you speak of things that you have not purchased yet. I don't have a subscription to McDonalds stating that I can get a Big Mac once a day for the price of 12.99 a month. I am not being forced to purchase the iphone prior to its release wherein ALL the information of the device has been posted/recorded for the masses to see.
The difference we have here is that S-E wants to begin charging us @1.20, without clear knowledge on what they are planning on doing to the game, this is an investment for some people (look at the devote Everquest players that still play that game) people don't want to have to waste a year of their life on a game that could potentially and radically alter their view on said game because prior to that 2.0 they were enjoying it.
Hell, I am a little skeptical on the 15 abilities/?spells? (see I assume it means spells since they didn't clarify this) and 11 traits for each job only. I don't know how that would work because I know nothing of what is staying and what is leaving.
As for the customer isn't always right, I agree 100%, but the point is this is a MMO, something that people invest years of their life into to play, and they just want to make sure it stays fun or to just stop now. We only ask for CLEAR information. (Or at least I am)
even if they did, it wouldn't survive.
People playing now are so into the franchise they are playing because they want SE to succeed.(not because they are having the time of their lives), without the people on now SE will be gambling. Businesses do not like that.
Where is the link that says they will still go on even with 0 people playing?
The cat is being silly
This is obviously the option we are all going to be given. However, you spitefully pointing it out doesn't make it any less of a disappointment for me. I want to play FF online, and I would like it to be good. If I find the game not worth paying, not only will I have already sunk a cost of time and actual money to buy the initial game, I will have lost out on something I was expecting to enjoy.
Also, I would like to say that the option to quit devolves the game for players who decide not to quit. So why would you so begrudgingly hint that I should leave? I think we are all hoping XIV will be worth our money; I don't want free to play crappy content forever, so why don't you stop trolling?
Oh I am trolling? No no dear sir I do not troll and I never told you to leave. All I did was state that it was said the billing will start sometime after 1.20 and after playing 1.20 if you still felt that the game is not fun to play then you do not need to pay but then you can not play either but then if the game is not fun I don't see why you would want to play at the time and not wait till the next patch 1.21 and see if it is better and then possibly pay then? I never say pay or leave... please read what I said. I do not wish for anyone to leave if they like the game and I do wish for them game to get to where many of you can enjoy it and have no problems with paying for it, but it still comes to the fact they will start subs up sometime after 1.20.
Right now I like the game and I am having fun with my LS and the people I have met in the game so I will pay and I will stay and have fun with those people.
The cat is bemused =-.-=
No what is ignored is the fact that they do not need your sub to pay for 2.0 and the fact that even if they got subs from all the people currently playing it still probably would not be enough to cover full development of the new severs/server structure and game of 2.0. What your sub will pay for really is current server upkeep (until the 2.0 servers are ready and take over which is later in 2012) and for the GM/community reps and such... If you believe there are enough of you humans playing right now to cover all that and the building of the new engine, new servers/structure, and game plus the old servers and new 7th umbral era content plus GMs/community reps and other such stuff... well then I would like to see the numbers you have for current players because I have read a lot of threads on different sites on people wondering how many people are actually playing and the theory numbers are kind of low to think they would pay for all mentioned stuff even at full sub price...
The cat is bemused =-.-=
At most no one pays they shut these servers down get everything ready for 2.0 and see how many come back and hope it works. I'm I silly sure the cat is almost always thought of as silly... but who knows its the simple fact that if everyone currently playing payed a sub fee they would not be making enough for current stuff plus the 2.0 stuff along with the GM/community reps and such people. So if you look at it that way they really don't need your money to get to 2.0 they need it for the here and now stuff.
Also still looking for the post I saw with something like this in... I'm pretty sure it was one of the many many interviews I read over the last month but who knows it may have never really been said and it could have been just something I took out of all those questions about starting up the billing.
The cat is silly bemused =*.*=
Current game development costs are around $57-80m+ for new non-indie projects, trust me, subs alone won't cover any development costs, maybe it'll pay for some of their lunches, but it'll take quite a few years time to even break even, let alone pay for it. The subs now are for the continued operation of XIV, they're even offering a discounted prices (pending) which alone should tell you it's not "to pay for 2.0".
It's to develop content (i.e patch 1.20+) and even then, making some money with your project is better than making almost zero, especially given that a lot of stores aren't restocking XIV yet in some areas.
Here's a news flash: They put out a faulty product, admitted as such and said they're going to work to regain our trust. Failing time and again to meet their own deadlines does not instil trust. Quite the opposite.
It is not an "entitled attitude" to expect them to follow through on their promises.
I don't understand why you're referring to people as "you humans."Quote:
I don't understand why you humans keep bringing this up as if someone is pulling the money from you and you can not stop them.
any smart business person never makes promises on what they cant deliver. SE needs to act like smart business people and not post "this week" "after this weekend" and "we need a few more days to wrap things up" instead next time just say" we will release the list when its ready; ok?!"
If I do not like the service or products of a business I take my money elsewhere. You were all promised nothing, they said they would try, they have apologized for the lateness of their response. If you cannot handle that, take your business elsewhere.
Incidentally, if all of you feel you didn't receive sufficient product for the last years worth of free play as recompense for your original purchase I don't know how to help that entitled attitude.
I'm not saying that we ought to sit back and say nothing. I have never said that. In point of fact, I have made suggestions myself. However, its just that, suggestions not demands, not orders, not impositions. Your attitudes that you are utterly entitled to this knowledge that they haven't yet been able to sufficiently deliver is what is preposterous.
Incidentally, to the fellow who pulled up a couple of what may or may not represent trademark formulas that he googled, you missed the point apparently.
they have not earned my trust. how am i supposed to believe 2.0 will be as good as they say, and delivered on time if they can't even put patch note out on time. going take more than 2 endgame fights and a few tossed together crappy dungeons to keep me entertained for long. Ty SE for the char head start but not much else going on for this game.
I think the funniest part about this is when you refresh Lodestone and see a new topic and get all excited thinking it's the class changes and then you read "Changes to Repairs". Also by 'funniest part about this' I mean the part about this that makes you :< for the rest of the day.
Don't you guys have more Ifrits to kill and more Dark Matter chests to rage about?
Stop wasting time waiting for things, and do other things instead. Be Productive!
except the "company" you're talking about doesn't JUST have XIV as its product. Not to mention its been stated by Wada that the entire company(all) not just XIV's branch is backing this project and helping them out.

SE is obviously not as strong as they once were(years ago) in terms of products being produced and creating revenue. BUT saying they can't survive till their second launch without, what? maybe 1-5ksubs(being sooooo generous with the numbers) is amazingly retarded.
Regardless if only a fraction of the current population pay from now to 2.0, the game will still bring in more people come 2012 Dec. The ps3 release will undoubtedly bring in JP players even if its a small %, and at the same time china will be getting XIV as well. So another region will be opening up. XIV will be okay :D
Yes, they definitely dropped the ball by providing players a too accurate timeframe when they will release the info. This is the second time Yoshi makes this mistake, the first one being 1.18 patch release date. However, even after seeing the list we will still have to have on hand experience to provide accurate feedback on the changes, this is fact.
They plan to charge for content, yes, but only after we have tried 1.20. Regardless if they release the info or not, we will know if it's worth paying or not, so your "We have no idea how 1.20 will be and you plan to charge" point is moot. No, we should not have the patch notes yet, we are still two to three weeks at best from patch date.
Communicating everything they can has been Yoshi's policy since he took charge, but they do so when they are sure what and how things are implemented. At this rate it does not matter if we have the class change list tomorrow or on patch date, because it does not make a difference until we actually play with them.
Finally, using the term "is unacceptable" makes it sound as if they owe us anything. For your initial purchase we have received more than a year of free play, mostly unplayable though at least until 1.18 and the promise of content leading up to 2.0 with or without enough players subscribing, that is more than enough for your $60 ~ $80 purchase.
SE need to stop listenning you guys lol that's why they hear jp's more than us... we complain alot more than jp's
I have to admit, even I've been particularly disappointed by SE in this specific instance. I'm usually the first to defend them and to tell people to calm down and wait, but I -need- to know if my Gladiator is going to be fixed. I'm also curious about whether or not ARC will be fixed so my LS mates can feel useful again and be able to play what they want instead of getting shifted into going LNC vs Ifrit.
What Firon remembers SE saying is that the class change info will be released sometime AFTER 1.19 goes live. Which could mean the day before 1.20.
You are also wrong. Yoshida said back in August, and quite specifically, that the class changes notes would be released when 1.19 went live so they could monitor player feedback.

Alongside the overhaul to the algorithms, work is also proceeding on redefining and redistributing abilities for Disciples of War and Magic. This is a hefty amount of work, and not all classes will be ready by patch 1.19. But rather than a partial release, we’ve decided to save the implementation of all classes for 1.20. We’ll make the details of the planned changes available when 1.19 goes live, and monitor player feedback as a way to help define our direction. In the meantime, we’ll keep on performing balance tweaks to the current class system in coming sub-patches based on ongoing feedback from the community.
They actually said "when," not "after." From the Letter from the Producer dated 15 August:
Edit: I would be more upset about being beaten to that if I weren't distracted. >_>Quote:

No, when means concurrently. If someone tells me to go when the light turns green I'm not going to wait a few cycles then go. As when denotes immediate action based on a predetermined stimuli.
If it was going to be anytime before 1.20, they'd have said "prior to 1.20." SE is a company the is deliberate about the language it uses. This new dev team has yet to make a deadline that it has publicly set for itself and this info release is just a glaring example of that.
Actually some people thought we was getting the info changes when 1.19 went live, that's why i said you could tell the translation was dead wrong. If we was gonna get the notes when it went live we would have had them by now.
You just answered the question your self, if it was translated correctly we would have had th3e changes the same day 1.19 went live, that right there should have let you know the notes was translated wrong and it has not been the first time.Quote:
