When zilart was the only expansion most of the camps cycled between crabs, beetles and crawlers, until 70 when you moved on to Weapons.
It wasn't a great range... but atleast it required balanced parties with skillful play to work.

The problem isn't finding new mobs to kill, it's the horrible group mechanics behind it. 8 people attack 1 raptor , 4 ranged kill it before 4 melee can engage it, 4 melee go afk. I've seen it done many times. Regardless, the mobs die in 3-5 seconds, why should I bother cramping my "w" finger chasing around retarded mobs that die before I get to touch them. Being a GLA is almost pointless til 50 and then even then its still a 50/50 coin toss if your really needed or not. Could always replace you with another Archer (lol).
Elite Mobs Yes Please And Thank You!
same with every game what your point? i got sick of doing dungeon in wow in the first few weeks of trying and quit. Everything is a endless grind where you fight same type of mobs just remade in color or a new mob for a few levels. There noting new you can come up with that a MMO have not done.
Best thing SE can do is add many type of way of level up but then a issue would come up that many people would just do A or B and C,D,E no one be doing it not even the casuals just like how much of the stuff in ffxi people stop doing them. So it best just to have A or B and sometime few C just to give you a few other things to do.
I don't understand people who are making it sound like ffxi wasn't diverse post CoP grinding monsters were so diverse that I cant think of em all.
Yea but the problem with that is people only wanted to fight mobs that were fast kills/ for max exp gain (see above post)
Bard pulling for merit pts reached chains of 100+ on same mob for hours on in. everyonce in awhile i would take a pt to adyween sub. for crawlers
but we at least had that choice to go after big mobs. There is no choice here its you do raptors or you do raptors.
The problem with alot of the mobs is that SE started this game with party vs party play in mind. But they screwed the pooch with their own claiming system, the dispersion of the mobs, it being leve-centric. So they need to be rebalanced if SE wants us to kill single enemies. Aside from that, exping never really was an exercise in "skillful" play. It's filler content to get you acquainted with your abilities and in FFs case, other people.
Dude, no it didn't.
Bard was stupid easy to play well...there were only 4 songs you ever played ,okay 5 if you had a RNG in the party but otherwise, it was Mage Ballad, Mage Ballad II, Blade Madrigal, and the fourth one I forget cause it was 4 years ago when I lasted played XI...if you played anything else your party would call you a noob. I used to see how drunk I could get before my party would even notice. it was usually my typing that gave it away, not wether or not I was keeping up on the CRTL- 1,CRTL- 2, macro roatation.
Rpators are only fun when you have people that know not to stand behind them. If not it's a living hell.
They are never fun. Once I get 15 or 20 raptors down I'm on the verge of falling asleep face first on the keyboard. some parties cant believe I'm using buffs cause it takes to long.
Not true it is just they are optimal for sp/hr.
Below are all alternate leveling camps, but the sp/hr is below that of raptors.
Lower 40s: Crimson Bark, Efts in the little streams
Lower 40s: Peiste at Rivers meet
Upper 40s: Efts, Birds. traps at Sorel Haven
Mid 30s: Crimson Bark Bird Camps
Mid 30s: Ixtali camps near treespeak
Mid 30s: Amalja and Ants near Halitali
This is the same reason people lived off Colibri on XI. Was Max sp/hr
Was many many camps in XI but almost none of them where used.
Yes but it would seem that fighting any mob 10+ levels higher than you results in a penalty in your rewarded XP. This is my major gripe and if they would remove this I could go level where I please, big mobs or not.
What a downright monstrous LIE!
The original SP system was more like "backwards logic in fighting mobs". If you have to go eat dinner/fly to Fiji on business please just put X on follow so we can still get your bonus. Everyone get in place so you can get hit by this frontal attack! Stop doing so much damage, you are killing my SP!! NO BUFFS/DEBUFFS!!! Did you just cast shock spikes....Arrrrrrgh!!!! /ignore list noob.
Yeah... what a "dynamic" system of complete stupidity that was. Why oh why can't we go back to the "good old days". We need more difficult party fights, but man oh man someone should slap you for even suggesting that the original SP system was in any way, shape, or form good.
/ignore list
Mahayana, I agree with you.
Its been a long time since I played 11, but I swear the lvl gaps were no way near as what they are in 14 for the same amount of exp.
Now its not so much the amount I'm worried about, its just the whole process, there is NO fun at all and I don't think I'm in the minority, I mean I just don't concentrate at all, no sense of danger, no skillchains, no brs, no back/front line jobs really needed, no role feels defined, just beat down on the mobs.
I don't mind fighting the same stuff over and over in different skins, I never got bored in 11, I always made my own partys and thoroughly enjoyed going to camps and exping for a few hours, this game is such a bore and I feel I have a high tolerance, but seriously 10 minutes in a exp party I'm so bored and fustrated.
I know things are changing, well I hope they do because right now there is absolutely no way I will ever level another class again and bloody glad I had DoM done a long time ago.
I was hoping I would come into this game and have fun leveling all my classes to max just as I did in XI, this is the most important thing I loved doing, aside from scheduled ls events and progressing through the story line.
Sorry I keep going back to 11 but thats all I have to compare.
you are pretty beligerant arent you.
Your opinion is your own.
lets just say you used to have be able to have 4 man parties, or 15 man parties, and fight hard things for each, and get good sp, without doing anything he mentioned. Some people tried to exploit the system, but it wasnt the best sp for the party overall, if you knew what you were doing. better to get 400 a mob fast than hold out for 500 or do things that only helped 3 people in the party get sp.
It did have problems though, But, it also had solutions, its really a digression the real point is, they developed the game in mind, with people taking on things way higher than 10 levels, i dont know why they decided to limit at 10 levels, other than maybe to slow down sp, or make people fight easier things, so they didnt think the game was so hard
I honestly think it was an arbitrary number they picked.
This id the truth of FFXI! I couldn't see a crab for days after every time i left Terrigan range. It was crabs EVERYWHERE!
Crabs in dunes, in Buburimu, in qufim, in Boyahda, in Kuftal, in Terrigan, in Gustav...and then came WotG with even more areas full of crabs! I really hated that mob!
12 hour colibri party anyone?
But yeah parties do suffer from a lack of tactics, too many Leeroy Jenkins' in this game.
Remember all those threads about people ranking up way to fast a while back phys? Yea...
But holding up the old random sp system as some kind of good thing, that's a bit of lunacy. Though i will say one thing about it, it a fun minigame in sp grinds the name of which was "Throw every body else under the buss"
Hey we have started year 2, maybe they will add some fun this year!
good system or bad system aside, The fact is when they designed the game, they knew that 10 levels higher than 1 person in an 8 man party was basically an easy prey monster. Back when they didnt tell you the level, and just your con versus a party, those raptors would be blue or green colored to an 8 man party 10 levels away. I see that they thought people were getting too much sp, but they basically changed the game to mass murder with no skill when they put a 10 level cap on everything. Its a decent number for a really small party, but past 5 people it starts to get incredibly easy, even on most of the strongest monster families.
@OP:
Yes, yes I did enjoy grinding raptors. Nice and easy with best SP/hr. I probably would have enjoyed reading quest text and running around the world for the same period for the same reward even more, but raptors were better than crabs or crawlers ever were in FFXI.
Ok I know people had a problem with crab parties in the beginning but guess what
THEY FIXED IT DIDN'T THEY?
That's all I'm asking is for them to fix it. Its been a year after release, and nearly 10 months of Yoshi Dev, and they haven't fixed something so important to the game?
Its easy. Instead of having this crazy 10 level cap, make the exp granted judged by; 1, The amount of people in party; 2, the accumulative levels of the party.
EXAMPLE
A party has 6 players 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, and 47. That average level is 44.5. They fight a level 70 mob the level gap is 25.5, Times that by 50 and you get 1275 and that can be your exp granted.
So formula is...
{[level of mob] - [(Accumulative player levels)/# of Players]}*50=[EXP granted]
If anything the cap should be reversed in large parties so fighting anything lower than 10 levels is a penalty.
I could go one step further and have bonuses for people under the top level so that the 46 gets +100, the 45 gets +200 and so on. Then I could go further and give bonuses for type of mob, so a basilisk is more valuable than a goblin the same level.
i love killing Raptors the sounds they make when they die is very nice ^^
There's an ongoing joke in one of my LS's that replaces the rank of a particular job with it's association to when you begin the raptor grind. Every rank from 35 up is considered Rank "Raptor". It no longer has a name because everything is pretty much the same from then on. If you must have variety you can denote Iron Lake Raptors from Boulder Downs Raptors.
So a rank 15 Marauder would be a Marauder who is rank -20 Raptor. As soon as they hit 35 they are now a Rank Raptor Marauder. They are then encouraged to hum the main theme to Jurassic Park and make random quotes from the movie instead of actually talking strategy because when you're fighting raptors talking strategy is just as pointless as the above activities.
That's pretty much the grind from 35 on for that LS.Quote:

lol u sir get a like, Rank Raptor Lancer ;-)
Raptors are a horrid grind, lots of other places and mobs to grind on that give way better results. So nope... don't like killing raptors... of course those following the herd won't have much experience outside of this! It's very doubtful but hoping choco's will make people head out and see the many possibilities and camp spots there currently are which will result in much better grind parties among other things!
Whenever I see raptors in video games I always think back to that Jurassic Park theme and sometimes hum it too XD
I think it's just one of those built-in reactions we gained from watching Jurassic Park as kids, like how some people that hear the word "Extra terrestrial" instantly think "E.T go home".
I just had this scary thought though...
When I'm riding through Thanalan on the back of my chocobo, the first and most glorious thing that will pop into my head will be the Indiana Jones Theme Tune. My eyes are watering up just thinking about how incredibly friggin' epic it's going to be! XD
TBH, Raptors shouldn't of offered so much XP in the first place. Raptors are cool and all, but the are popular purly on their SP per minute.
I kinda expect a nerf coming up pretty soon in regards to raptors. Although SE has more important issues to take care of than nerfing. :P
Quite frankly it's the players that are unwilling to change. You could always fight something else, but nobody wants to because thye want to get 50 the fastest and they would rather fight Raptors till they are blue in the face than try something different.
If Raptors were more in line with other mobs this would not be an issue. Or if they had a more devastating attack. Either that or they can make quests that are PETA oriented like "Protect the Raptors protests!" Where other players can attack Raptor Parties to keep them from going extinct! lol
Can we say PvP event? :D lol
I think this LS would like me.
I always make Jurassic Park jokes at raptors and everyone gives me sighs and fumes.
One of my favorites is when two move at the same time and I say, "They DO move in herds!"
There was also a raptor in XI that casted blizzard spells.
I always loved "RUN FOR IT, GUYS. IT CAN OPEN DOORS AND CAST BLIZZARD IV!"
Anyway, I like raptor parties mostly because they are more fun than leves.
I never bring more than 4 total members, though. That's enough.
There needs to be more types of enemys people will go after to exp in partys.
R44+ seems to be stuck on Raptors. They could add more enemy types.
