Players come and players go, the genre is hardly dead, people just expect/want too much from fresh MMO's these days because they compare them to the years of accumulated content from the big names.
It's 2013, games are now supposed to launch with enough content to compete with MMOs that have been on the market for 10 years, that's the way games evolve. By 2020 every MMO that doesn't launch with 45 years worth of content will be DOA.
The issue is this game isn't in its first year. The game launched in 2010 and was god awful then, its improved since then but the way development is going i'm not going to just bite the pillow and wait it out any longer. I have been playing since launch so where is the "no more crap taken" line supposed to be drawn? 3 years? 5 years?
Its also not just about the housing prices, its the fact that we are receiving nothing but backwards content this patch, They aren't improving crafting to where its actually useful and have no plans to, the armory system is basically useless due to the fact that you are restricted in the number of myths you can get and now with the fact that you can receive one drop a week from any of the new content, and finally the fact that legacy players... players who have been supporting this train wreck for 2 years, are being screwed.
WoW and FFXI did tons of crap I didn't care for and I still played because I liked the overall games. Overall gameplay beats some new shiny any day. The patch ain't even out yet and people are screaming doom. Maybe I'm giving squeenix too much credit here, but if things are too unobtainable for everyone, I'm sure they'll adjust.
There are plenty of ppl who haven't done coil yet who will look at CT as a welcome in-between on gear instead of doing what we did and hop into coil with darklight. They'll farm for gear that's in-between darklight and allagan which is what SE originally intended us to enter coil with. Plus I bet there will be some of us who will do CT anyway because it's something new.
Not only that but Yoshi-p did say in the live letter before this one that if you already had iLvl 90 gear you could farm for vanity if you so chose or gear alt jobs til you could gear in allagan.
Because the only reason everyone plays FFXIV is because of the housing right?
You can't enjoy this game without an FC house clearly...
I mean, we haven't been doing that fine up until now.... Right?
Okay, the price will go down to 10 million in a few months, by that time you'll have saved enough money for it. With the new dailies/treasure hunts you might be able to own a medium sized house by then.
It seems to me that the main issue people have is that they won't be able to buy the biggest house on day 1, I don't see that as an issue personally. I like it when games present a challenge.
You know what I loved? My mog house in Final Fantasy XI. I made tons of furniture for it, it was beautiful, I had great fun with that feature.
Know when it was available? Launch.
Know how much it cost? Nothing.
To be fair, it was the only thing with longevity that wasn't artificial - How likely are you to spam Pharos? HM dungeons? Primals after you're all said and done? CT has a loot lockout which artificially extends its lifespan, housing was originally going to be the one thing that stands the test of time. Even TH will be done fairly quickly given the 18 hour lockout there will be a finite supply when people sell maps.
The housing prices aren't going to drive away the progression minded people.
On the one side, people go 'lol housing, what's the point'
On the other side, people go 'OMG HOUSING DEALBREAKER'
Reality changes depending on who you talk to, I guess.
EQ2 and Rift have the best housing I've seen in MMOs. If it's really that important to some people they could try out those games?
Also. how is fc housing going to kill this game.
It's just a useless house, I don't give a hoot about FC housing tbh. I'm in the game for the content, not 'Oh I look cool and I have a cool looking house'.
I've been playing MMOs since 2000. there's only one MMO I've played and liked in the past that ACTUALLY 'didn't make it'. the chronicles of spellborn. all the other games I played for a while - and sometimes play again - still exist and are doing well enough. (I have no interest in ever going back to some of them but I could if I wanted to)
one game I was always 'sort-of' interested in but not enough to play, is very currently 'dead'. Warhammer Online. (nobody even cares, even though this is the game that brought us Rifts/Hearts/FATEs)
ARR will make it. now hush.
So much THIS!
It was the only content that did not require artificial lock-outs to keep people doing it week after week. Many hoped to spend their downtime doing things for the FC house or just hanging out there. So much for that idea. Apparently, SE doesn't believe we have enough mindless grind.
"Yo, Dawg. I heard you like grinding..." ~Yoshi-P
They gave us a beauty shop........WIN! i always regretted the hair style i chose but now i dont have to stick with it, so awesome. It might be another year before i leave FFXIV:ARR but as of right now im having a blast
Dude why even try, these White Knights have their head so far up their wahooooo its pointless to just speak your mind. These people are who Yoshi is laughing at thinking "Look at these morons", knowing he wouldn't have tolerated this crap if he wasn't the producer. Something has to give and I don't think it will be Yoshi.
Time to move on I guess.
LOLrantTHREADS
I know I've done some B4
(I've never gotten this much attention for it tho)
Whenever FFXI is mentioned the XIV community has a way of just..brushing it off like it was never a successful or long running MMO and that XIV ARR is the best MMO to ever exist lol. It's really hard to deny that. MMOs 12 years ago was fairly niche since whenever you mention you played an MMO people would look at you funny and wonder why you're not playing x console game or CS.
Nowadays MMO are as common as mario games.
People whining 'OH HOUSING IS TOO EXPENSIVE' and pissing and moaning because they can't buy it right away are really tiresome.
Expecting to buy a house straight away is like a young adult moving out of his parents into a new built house of their own. If you really think that's how it's going to be then you have a rough day coming...
Learn to save money, spend it carefully, and work for something. These numbers they have houses selling at is not over the top or overwhelming. It's realistic and provides those who purchase it with a sense of accomplishment.
This choice by SE will actual secure the success of this game in my view. Those who quit because of it? Don't let the door hit you on the way out but I don't encourage you to leave. I plea for you to stay and really drive to accomplish this feat.
Yoshi gave us his reasoning as to why it's so expensive - This isn't it. As much as I like realism, this is a video game. In FFXI all I had to do was talk to the NPC near the Residental Zoneline, zone in and bam, I'm at my Mog house that I can decorate to my hearts content.
No 625 million gil entrence fee.
Hi, people have been saving, spending carefully and working towards housing from anywhere from 4 months (a brand new 2.0 player) to 3 years (legacy player). The really tiresome thing is clueless people like you not knowing that it's generally prudent to keep your mouth shut when you don't know wtf you're talking about.
Meh. At least it might help with FC hopping. If I drop 4mil into my FC chest I'll probably stick around for a bit.
dying ? just because they're adding housing? i highly doubt it
What's the harm in having your own crib?
Besides the point but Lodestone is quite behind. Not saying I've accomplished everything but I'm 50 with Garuda cleared and that was within 24 hours of dinging 50.
And I could have everything at 50 and balls to the wall maxed out and I still wouldn't whine.
And your post is supposed to do what exactly? Scare me into a corner?
I still stand by my reasoning of saving up for something. And those people who have been saving for 3 years will have their house in a tenth of that time no sweat. We've been preparing for new end game content and you expect to just get the new equipment for free without working for it?
I know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about feeling a sense of pride in earning what I've acquired.
This I agree with 100%. I just had this discussion earlier today about this. Friend of mine stated "We saw how smooth launch went lol Housing wouldn't have held at all with server issues."
Now with that said, they have been working on this game since 2006-2008? I might be wrong on the length of time but Alpha was in 2010 and they revamped it completely in 2 years time since release. However they had bigger issues and concerns to focus on housing at the time. Most of those kinks and bugs have been worked out, but they should have lumped personal housing in with FC housing or at least give personal housing first then do FC housing.
there are more important things then housing...
housing wont make or break the game, having a shit engine and poor servers do that, guess one of the main elements that broke ff14 1.0 ?, wasnt housing thats for sure, the servers broke a lot of people.
housing has never made any mmo what it is, its a side extra, all this hype will wash away for good.
