Just like the PS3, the PS4 needs to follow the software development guidelines set by the platformer Sony Computer Entertainment. We cannot release addons software on the XIV that doesn’t go through this guideline checks. Therefore, you will not be able to use user created addon’s on the PS3 and the PS4.

As for methods to officially address popular addon features, instead of individual addon distribution, we are thinking to have the development team release them as an additional feature and deliver though patches

Most recent update is that the Add-ons are now pushed back 6 months instead of the PS4 release, so we can look forward to it in about a years time..

My only real concern is that they'll hold up releasing PC content while they make it work (when possible) for PS3. If PS3 version is gonna hold up content releases then let the ps3 version catch up later.


I don't really care if SE supports PS3 or not so long as it doesn't affect PC.

This makes no sense. ffxi had this so it's not like they changed it to save space.

These guys do it with every game now. I think they need to justify having spend 2-3x as much as the rest of who do the same thing with our PS3.

Actually it was to save space, it was because of the PS3's limited resolution that we are limited to a 4x25 bag system to fit within a certain maximum window size. Icons over text was simply to save memory since the PS3 is memory starved.

Ya my memory could be off, but I am 99% positive the FC summon idea came even before summoner was introduced. iirc the initial idea was only one fc on a server could capture a primal or something but once they used it, another could capture it.

This was back when Tanaka was still in charge and had said ffxiv wasn't going to have any pet classes (guess they hated trying to balance them in 11). But when Yoshi-P took over they did a poll on what class did people want back, and summoner won so.....they had to think of something else for them to summon.

There's some false information here, and whoever claims this whether it was you or somebody else is retarded. I've done this countless times on my PS3, and the only thing I have encountered is lag in the connection, not the loading, and even that is rare nor has it actually hindered me.

There is a reason they are making ADD-ON cause they don't want the same thing to happen as FFXI in which other people had to make "Windower" to make the game more playable.

Could of sworn i saw someone else cry over this misunderstanding just before the game was released, its very simple to understand, they have to limit the ui for ps3 because its near the ps3 limit, therefore it is only limited on the ps3. This is also only found on the ps3 news area.

Besides falsely comparing the ram, as in PC needs it for OS, etc. while ps3 can dedicate it all into the game, that's not the point being made. The point is even if this game is for pc only there will be a minimum spec that they'll want to support and support until the end of the service. So no matter how powerful crazy fast pc upgrades come in the future they're not gonna abandon their initial spec, by adding content that's not playable on said machine, because not everyone will upgrade their pc.

I'm reading this as "Japanese devs are bad and should feel bad for being so bad."

If PS3 is limiting them, they should be ashamed that WoW and other MMOs can run so well on WalMart off-the-shelf comps with integrated graphics.

Once again, much is lost in translation with Square and they seem to care little or nothing for their non-Asian markets. I'm losing all patience with their incompetence and neglect.

PS3 limitations have really hurt the game in my eyes. Zone-borders one of the worst offenders. I don't think 2.0 players understand the joy of what it is to have a fully open and unsegmented world. Able to walk in and out of a city at will. The city being there, in its entirety and not this broken off instanced mess. The engine no longer being able to be super sampled so everything is all shiny and full of artifacts. Smaller zones... WAY smaller zones... not only is the world segmented to deal with PS3 memory issues, but the zones themselves were shrunk dramatically. Anyone who doesn't think the PS3 is limiting the game, simply hasn't played 1.0.

I'm glad you guys are here, enjoying the game. I really am. I love the idea of consoles and PCs playing together. I want to see more games do it, but not at the cost of a better game. That's just, wrong.

If you played 1.0 then you should know that adding zones has nothing to do with the ps3. 1.0 experienced SUPER latency issues for BOTH the PC and Ps3. They added zones to handle the load for both systems because of how graphic intensive the game is for most people's systems.

They also shrunk the zones because of time. They had to basically redo the whole world to handle people complaining about blades of grass and constant repeating rocks. If you think they were going to spend the time and resources to make it as big as 1.0 you are asking too much.

I played 1.0 and honestly, I don't miss it. Contiguous worlds are a fallacy, there's always zones. Just that in the open world games they preload the next zone before you reach it so that it seems seamless. That said, 1.0 did have zone borders. Thanalan didn't just flow into the Twelveswood, there was a zone border separating the two. It was more the world was comprised of three super zones full of copy-paste goodness... that noone liked. Being an old XI player I'm not bothered by the world we have now one bit, the zones or varied and vibrant with lots of little details if you're willing to look. The cities being broken in two did seem odd at first but when you consider just how many quest NPCs there are in them it makes sense.

This is how this game difference from FFXI

FFXI is PS2 then PC
So PC was an after thought.

FFXIV is PC then PS3 then PS4.
PC will be the base and PS3 is the after thought. Ya it will work but never be the same as PC. Close but not the same. PS4 should be a clean port and Should follow PC much closer to what is able to do.

This is clear when you hear them talk about custom UI and addon. And how PS3 and PS4 will not be able to use them.. Unless they are so popular they implement them info the game for PS3 and PS4.
There are many addons for WOW that Blizzard was like wow everyone uses XXXX addon.. lets make it part of the game.

I don't get this. What does not load fast enough? The dungeon? What does it have to do with getting wiped in Titan? I died in Titan several times but I don't fault my stock PS3 setup. I also won Titan w/o dying. So again, what does being on PS3 have anything to do about getting wiped on Titan? ( very confused )

This only limits the PS3. It doesn't limit the PC version- The PC version's UI is already different and has features the PS3 version's does not because the PC version can use more memory. I haven't read the other 4 pages but we knew about these limitations before the PS3 version even came out.

I was devo to find out ESO is on consoles also, looks lke that game with suffer the same concequences as this one.

Yeah everyone quit wow a long time ago.. running on junk old PCs.

I just wish they had not released for PS3 and just waited until the PS4 to do a console version. They would have had more memory to work with. We'd have more variation in armor. We'd have our belts back. Models wouldn't have been reduced in size. The world scale itself has suffered. The worst part is, the PS3 is going to hold back the PS4 version in an equal way. It's going to be the anchor that holds the system back for the life of the game. They will never, ever be able to make content the PS3 can't handle. I'd really like people to think about how unfair that is going into a new console generation, and releasing an MMO in 2013, anchored by a seven year old console.
