I remember the day Yoshi P said on stream to us healers to just do ultimate, then they fully killed my astro (for me) in EW. I stopped healing a tier later.

I do not understand how people can say it is acceptable to have your job role be very dull in the majority of content. I do savage, I do ultimate but when I get busy with work and studies the casual content is where I spend most of my time. I imagine it's much the same for other players. I love healing, when the fight is messy and you can save the run it's amazing. I love helping the team. But it's a complete snoozefest once people know what they are doing, and we see in DT first dungeon even in the case of their first run they were not punished for their mistakes enough to actually die. That's frankly terrible design. Failure should be a possibility when you eat several mechanics.

The attitude of some people in here just shows they really don't deserve the healers who support them. When so many are expressing in simple terms that the combination of the encounters weak damage output and strong survivability of certain jobs makes healers incredibly unfun to play. Nobody wants to sit spamming a single button 70-80% of the time. Especially when you know that in fact your team would be better off were you a dps, at least you'd clear quicker.

I love AST and SCH, I look forward to playing with their kits in DT and trying to tackle the new ultimate with them. That doesn't erase the fact that in the majority of content healers are looking to be once again, for the third expansion in a row, unnecessary and boring. That's just unacceptable. I've seen new players who come in, are at first scared to try healer but once they do find that it's actually not scary or hard. And when they later get a decent handle of healing? They get bored. Because it is boring when you know best how to use your tools to the point that all you do afterwards is 12111....

Lastly, the difficulty curve of the game for dungeons is totally backwards. One of the most memorable dungeon for many is what? Aurum vale. Cause it actually had the capability to cause a wipe and frequently would do so with newer players. Why are the most difficult encounters you will come across in game the early ones? And the later ones a total snooze? Not only are the later dungeons easier due to you generally improving over time but they are far less threatening in themselves overall than old ones were in the past.

I want stuff to heal, I frankly don't care if I get more dps options on my astro or sch. If they want us to have simple dps buttons to allow us to focus on healing, fine! But actually give me something to heal for heavens sake. I shouldn't be rendered redundant by the healing capability of other non healer jobs. That's stupid.

People ask for more dps buttons because that's what you spend most of your time doing, healers are just a shit dps at this point for many and it's incredibly unfun. I think they ask for a dps rotation because they feel certain that SE will not give us anything engaging to heal in dungeons etc and so far they have not been proven wrong.

The role is in dire need of help and has been since SHB dropped. Another 2 + years of this is just unacceptable. I look forward to healing the new ultimate, I hope it's got engaging healing anyway. But my daily roullete etc is never gonna be done on a healer for this expansion if all the dungeons are like the first.

I've heard this excuse for a few expansions now, I'm not being fooled again. The run was merely proof that Square isn't budging from the designs they've been working with for the past 5 years and we can expect yet another expansion where healers are just tag-alongs in a dungeon that can be replaced for a faster run.

Just wait for the next expansion, they promised more healing: Expansion comes and it turns out that I don't need to heal more, in fact I heal less.
Just wait for the balance patch: Balance patch comes and all I get back is Energy Drain.
Just wait for the next patch: Next patch comes and nothing has changed, maybe I need to cast an Esuna once a dungeon run.
Repeat for 2 expansions, we're now in the "Just wait for the next expansion" phase again.

But yeah, they need to do something because this is not something that's going to be ignored easily - and for good measure for people like Kitiara, doesn't matter if you know Healer Mains. Your skilled healers for certain content are going to DROP. This includes Savage and Ultimate. Savage is supposed to be where Healers shine, but oh wait - Savage has been cleared with "Oops! All WAR!" - to the point where even Ultimates are a joke to them. If anything, it serves to show how deprecated the role has become.

Again it is quite literally not just about DT it's about being ignored for years, and nothing in the media tour even comes close to detailing changes to any of the issues these people have raised for years. I don't understand how you can't grasp that, did you even read the opening post? Overcrowding? Don't make me laugh again, it's one thread, one teeny tiny row on the first page of the general discussion, it isn't preventing anyone from talking about anything. So again I ask, why are you trying to stop these people? You sound like it might actually do something and you seem worried about that.

I don't either. Limited % of players even do Savage, even less do Ultimate. If you're a WHM who does those you are still a WHM doing Hunts, exploratory zones, relic quests, job quests, role quests, side quests, msq, deep Dungeons, Fates, etc. That's a looooot of hours to have a boring spam dps combo.

Sadly, many of the fanbase are brainwashed into believing that it's totally fine because the content is easy anyway. Even if it was all braindead easy, jobs should still be fun to play. Many players and streamers dismissing players who want improved rotations are just jaded I guess because they either don't heal or already did the content and want everyone to feel as bored of the content as they do.

The 28th is Early Access.

July 2nd is the hard release date for Dawntrail.

The Healer Strike will go as long as it needs to, I imagine - and I don't think people are going to stop complaining about Healers given how long Healers have been ignored. Sure, while players may enjoy Healer for the longest time, when they actually start to 'learn' healer you eventually find out that they only have 1 Button to deal damage with, pressing a 2 every 30s or so. If that doesn't spell boring, I don't know what does.

You're the 5th person trying to get healers to unsubscribe. This was all answered before.

- The intent of the strike, or the people supporting the strike, is not to unsubscribe.
- Unsubscribing from FF brings into question the feedback itself, it's quite likely devs are less eager to listen to feedback from unsubscribed players.
- There isn't a way to let the devs know why a specific account unsubscribed, that could be for any number of reasons and will likely get drowned out by the huge changes in subscriber numbers that come with any new expansion.
- Your attempts at convincing people to unsubscribe are unwanted, and it's frankly non of your business what services other people subscribe to.
- Continued attempt to convince people to unsubscribe cross the line from unwanted to creepy.
- It's a disingenuous advice. The unsubscribe argument is a transparent attempt to dismiss the complaints, by claiming they aren't serious since healers are unwilling to unsubscribe. That has never been a valid argument to counter any form of player feedback.

I think the problem atm is there is an entire region that likes the way the healers play on top of other NA/EU healers that are fine with the changes.
Sadly to SE. It probably just seems like a loud minority and even if it is enough to get their attention they have to decide who they even want to please. If JP is ok with healers and a good size of NA/EU is ok with healers..it really doesn't seem like SE has to do much of anything sadly...

The vast majority of people are still going to play healers and still queue for things and still raid on it.
I also think as much as I would like to see you guys get what you want, there is a brand new EP coming I'm sure a lot of you won't forget this thread/strike but everybody else will for awhile as they're playing dawntrail. I have a feeling this will rise back up once we hit the "lul" patch but I can't help but feel this strike would have been better if you all started it now when nobody is doing anything rather than starting it on the official launch of dawntrail where nobody will care to visit the forums much and be too focused on playing the actual game playing with new stuff...

I mean, how many streamers that you hear about are healer mains? Zepla is about the only one who has been positive about the strike probably because she regularly plays a healer and doesn't have the default mindset of the only time you can have fun is when you are progging savage or doing ultimate as was seen from her video months ago critical of EWs content. Casual content is boring for everyone because the content is unfortunately meant to be braindead, but at the same time when you take that and add in 2 damage GCD spells, one you only press every 30s, it just makes it insanely worse. Streamers don't play the game as a casual so they have no idea what it means when casual players ask for the game to be somewhat engaging for them.

It was the most disappointed I have ever been in the game. It was so tone deaf I was actually gobsmacked he dared to say it. Then we later learned they replaced their healer tester for dungeons because he got too good. That was another sad day. They have made healers as easy to play as ever, the role is still niche and they should recognise that it always will be because some players are simply terrified of having any responsibilty. The fear they mess up and get called out for it stops them playing, this is the case in every mmo that healers are in and those other MMO did not turn their healers into a 1 button brainless snoozefest that is replacable by another dps.

Yoshi P should be more willing to accept that not every player is gonna be willing or able to play a healer.

That's the essence of this "strike." People are making this out to be us wanting to intentionally hurt the community. This isn't true. But you don't get to speak for me either. I sorely miss having more engaging decisions (and selene). I don't want less dps, I want less homogenization. I miss cleric stance.

I also unsubbed for long periods of time when I wasn't enjoying the game (and deleted my main). Active subscription count is the only thing SE really cares about and staying subbed while complaining on the forums doesn't constitute a strike, since queue times haven't changed. So it's simply loud minority compared to rest of XIV's population. Which okay, protest all you want, but don't also claim that anyone who doesn't agree with your specific take is hurting the role wtf.

Ah yes. The 'loud minority' argument. Well, I guess you could easily call it a minority in this case, considering Healers tend to be scarce both in patch lulls and in High-End Content to an extent. Doesn't mean that the people who try to play healers are going to enjoy it, or heck only play it because it's needed. I actually challenge you to ask people who are playing the Healer Role currently how they feel about Healing as a whole and whether it's boring. People I've asked both in dungeon and also in Novice Network have said that it's not fun when there's only 1 Button for damage.

Ok one last thing I would like to add because I have been thinking about the question how to make healers necessary while still ensuring a low skill floor and keeping normal/casual content accessible (while allowing for a high skill ceiling in hard content).

I think that “needs a healer” and “is not too difficult” are not mutually exclusive.
Imo there just needs to be enough damage over time that exceeds the healing non-healer jobs can provide/mitigate.

Here is a very simple example. I’ll focus on GCD healing for the sake of the argument but of course this should also work with other/more interesting healing mechanics. I’m also not addressing more DPS options here.

Example:

You have your standard dungeon run/boss fight and the boss will cast their usual “big” raid wides. You can deal with those with your oGCD tools as you normally would.

But in-between those raid wides the boss would continuously deal low damage to the whole group (either by bleeds or by high frequency low-damage raid wides).

This damage can be countered by casting GCD aoe heals.

Additionally it could also keep on targeting random players to deal single target damage. That damage doesn’t need to be super high.

One GCD could cover it.

Why could this work:

1. Since the damage isn’t high, one “tick” of this low frequency damage shouldn’t lead to much stress and could be dealt with by replacing one of your regular DPS casts with a GCD heal cast.
   
   
2. As mentioned above the goal of this kind of approach is that the cumulative damage should exceed what non-healers can mitigate/salvage.
   
   This means by pure numbers a healer would be mandatory because after too many ticks of low damage (plus “regular” big raid wides) the party would just be dead.
   
   But at the same time dealing with it should be comfortable enough for casual players.

You could argue that replacing 11111 DPS GCDs with heal GCDs doesn’t make a difference but I’m not sure I completely agree (though as said above I’m certain there are more ways to make a healing scenario like this interesting).

Imo it continuously forces you to divert your attention to your party’s health (your party as a whole plus alternating between individual players’ health pools).
This could break up the 111111 tunnel during downtime, at least a little bit.


In harder content you could gradually increase the difficulty of resource management to up the stakes.

In midcore content dealing with frequent partywide and random single target damage should be more taxing than on normal mode but not completely unforgiving.

Hardcore content should really test your resource management.

First of all, you don't need discord to do savage or ultimates. Second you won't get banned because nobody cares if you dont do things perfectly first try. FF14 raiding community is more forgiving than you think.

Trust me I really didn't want to use the "loud minority" excuse and I wasn't really trying to make an argument rather I was just saying to SE. It probably seems that way because as I said in my post. JP is happy with the way healers are and a good size of NA/EU are.
Which is I think SE might see this as just a loud minority of healers.
I actually want more than one dps spell. Though I don't find healers that boring but thats only because I don't main it but I do think few more dps spells would be more fun.

Good god that's like twice the one button presses than what I managed as a garbage first-time healer in p5s and p6s. People say healing is supposed to be the most fun when people are new and things are chaotic, but even in savage it was still not fun to me and it won't get better in ultimate either. To think that people pay a subscription to have that kind of gameplay at high end...

I fear you are labouring under massive misunderstandings here - for a start, I am actually a fairly experienced player across all roles, with many savages and ultimate clears under my belt and I still make mistakes, horribly embarassing ones even and I have yet to experience getting actively blacklisted, let alone getting banned for not performing perfectly. High-end raiders are no angels, so if even the best make mistakes, who says it's an issue if you do?

Practice parties are there for learning and mistakes are commonplace. Clear and reclear parties also occasionally have people getting hiccups and wiping the group occasionaly, that's life. It is only for speedkill groups that will seek perfect play, but those typically can be ignored.

Really, stop being worried about needing to perform perfect the first time you join raids, or any content. Hell, when content is new we don't even have guides, we just learn on the fly on our own - there is no perfect play then.

Ok one last thing I would like to add because I have been thinking about the question how to make healers necessary while still ensuring a low skill floor and keeping normal/casual content accessible (while allowing for a high skill ceiling in hard content).

I think that “needs a healer” and “is not too difficult” are not mutually exclusive.
Imo there just needs to be enough damage over time that exceeds the healing non-healer jobs can provide/mitigate.

Here is a very simple example. I’ll focus on GCD healing for the sake of the argument but of course this should also work with other/more interesting healing mechanics. I’m also not addressing more DPS options here.

Example:

You have your standard dungeon run/boss fight and the boss will cast their usual “big” raid wides. You can deal with those with your oGCD tools as you normally would.

But in-between those raid wides the boss would continuously deal low damage to the whole group (either by bleeds or by high frequency low-damage raid wides).

This damage can be countered by casting GCD aoe heals.

Additionally it could also keep on targeting random players to deal single target damage. That damage doesn’t need to be super high.

One GCD could cover it.

This is basically how WoW tends to structure its healing needs in the average encounter.

There's almost always something that's stressing the healers enough that they seldom get any chances to hit offensive buttons (Unless you're specifically using one of the specs like discipline priest or mistweaver monk that heal with their offensive buttons, albeit generally not as well as the typical healing buttons), and the most common type is non-trivial tank damage, with constant AoE damage pulses or random single target hits/DoTs being other options.

AoE healing also tends to be a bit of luxury and not something to be spammed outside extremely high intensity heal checks where it's literally the only way to keep everyone up due to the mana inefficiency of it.

For those who think the answer to this whole problem is “just play savage” what is your answer to the fact that savage and ultimate are overwhelmingly broil spam?

Do you think that’s acceptable design? If it’s not does that not necessitate game wide kit changes that will naturally flow into casual content as well?

If you think it’s acceptable design what is your justification for that given no other class exceeds 20% of their buttons being one button?

Every job in FFXIV has a 'filler GCD' skill that they press when there are no other requirements... etc
Ever asked why that is the case?
Small clue: People play with a controller. Do a full rotation on a controller while keeping the heals and target swapping in check.
DPS and Tanks dont need to worry about being on a controller and the rotation can be more or less complicated, you can macro the small bits but 99% of the fight you only target one thing: THE ENEMY.

[*]Homogenization of healer jobs
Barrier/Pure healer split is largely redundant...etc
So, whats the big idea?
You know why BLM feels rewarding for knowing when to play your Lay Lines? Because knowledge is power. Its the same for Barrier healers, knowing how and when to use said barriers. FAT Barriers that make the boss deal 0 damage feel sooo goooood.


Pure healers are the easy way in, White Mage is the easy one, Ast is the Hard one.
You can have 0 knowledge of a fight and still do a pretty good job, learning and reaching the point where you can swap between Barrier and Pure heal and not feel punished. Again: Knowledge is power.

[*]Excessive oGCD heals.
These are not only abundant, but exceptionally powerful.. etc
You should be thankful that those abilities are so many, expecially for casual play. Its casual content, it should be relaxed and easy to tackle, for those that seek higher challenges, there are modes that provvide said challenges, where you plan stuff ahead instead of "yolo". Do those.

[*]Lack of engaging content outside the most difficult duties (Savage/Ultimate). i.e. the threat level is too low.
Healers should feel like they have a place in all forms of content... etc

Have you ever tried to Mentor Roulette with a healer? Like, ever?
Its casual content with the spice that you seek in those "casual contents" but with a bit of challenge.
Tanks that dont use CDs, Dps that run wild or do so little damage the mobs start using "Final Sting".
The big pulls at Bardam's or Holminster's, the absolute chad pull on Mt. Gulg.


I get your idea with the strike, but this is just... stupid.
Making your life easier with mitigation? nha mate, you want to heal it all? Addle? Feint? Tactician?
Remove ALL and you shall enjoy your panik heals because EVERYONE IS DEAD.

You are burned out of the game or healing, trying something else.
