Buff Enkindle - Summoner spell

Yeah like the title says; please buff the Enkindle spell for Summoner.

Enkindle got a 200-300 potency depending on what pet uses it.
It got a 300sec cd.
The AOE is fairly small.

Meanwhile we have BLMs who got flare with a potency of 260, (which is about the same dmg as Enkindle). So far everything is good, except a BLM can cast it again, and again as long as he/she has mp for it (convert etc). and a 2.5recast timer... >_>

How does that make sense?

What I'm asking for is that they either reduce the cd on the ability or increase the potency.

EDIT: Just wanted to add; been speaking with quite a few SMNs already and we all agree on that the 5yd aoe range for their signature move should be at least doubled to 10yd radius :P let me know if you agree

same goes for RUIN , is a 2.5s nuke still does 80 potency .....vs stone blizzard and fire ...140.....lol

Even worse is Tri-Disaster and Miasma II.

Tridisaster is hitting for a pitiful 60 damage on a 3 second cast time.

Miasma II is a horrible 20 initial, 10 dot poteny pbaoe.

Then you have the pet commands not including Enkindle. Both the Ifrit and Garuda got a 30 sec ability that does a 80-90 potency AoE...


Summoner has virtually no burst aoe at all and it really guts him in dungeons like Vale where you have to kill all the eggs in time on the final boss. Bane just doesn't cut it.


I dread Garuda hard mode on summoner when it comes to feather killing duty...

I agree, SMN feels really underpowered atm, and the fact that I'm not heavily penalized when my egi dies in a boss fight, just shows how little damage they do. Not to mention their low amount of hp >_> Only Titan-egi has enough to take a beating.
Hope that they buff Summoner in general, if not, then at least up the dmg on their pets; 80-90 potency is ridicules. Even garuda-egi Wind Blade does low dmg.

Have to agree with the above. I got miasma II today and when i used it i was like wtf is this? Summoners needs a small buff overall.

Summoner is actually really high dmg right now. and ruin potency is low because your petnuke makes it the same as all the other classes nukes

This, they're REALLY high single target, and AoE is high over time, but no burst AoE.

That's the only thing they're lacking, and imo, why we have Enkindle.

Summoner has high single target damage? I am not seeing it at all what I am seeing is all the other dps classes leaving us in the dust in terms of damage. Watching my brother dragoon annihilate enemies in seconds and watching my friends monk crush things yeah I am not seeing this HIGH single target damage. Heck even warrior has a 300 potency attack that they can use often and lets not forget giving them back huge amounts of hp.

Talking with other summoners on this forum, on twitch and in the game too and they all feel their damage is pitiful compared to other classes. I ignored them I kept saying to myself its going to get better and its not.

I am re rolling to a black mage and right now I am melting peoples faces off.

I find their damage doesn't really seem very high because it takes a bit for all their dots to get up, but once they're there... bosses melt.

Miasma 2 seems more utility based, IE, you get agro and have mobs on you, pop it (instant cast) and they all get the slow debuff while you run away to your tanks loving arms

But yes, please buff enkindle, it seems very underwhelming on a 5min CD (although if you pop spur and rouse 80% extra damage is what like 540 potency?) I think CD should be lowered, not damage increased

It's very high damage over time, especially because pet+ruin is stronger than most other classes spammables. 80+100/120.

The DOT+pet class has less burst than the nuker class? I am shocked! This needs to be fixed immediately!

High Single target? have you done the math? Because I have. With the 4 dots + Thunder you only hit a total of 255 potency (and that's including 100p from basic attack from your pet). That's 5 spells+pet that have to be casted and kept on the target. Meanwhile BLM have have spells with 200p higher with fire. or Flare. Even a WHM can compete in terms of dmg with their Holy, + Aero II >_>
Keep in mind that in order for us to hit that 255p we have to cast 5 different spells, and time is dmg.

You forgot in order to hit that Potency they have to run their course, which is between 15-30sec, in that time any decent BLM/MNk can outdmg you :P you will only hit a max of ~260p with all yours dots+pet for every 3sec or so. Although it can be higher if you use both your dmg cd for your pet.

The thing you don't get is that is ALWAYS our damage.

Other people have phases or attacks where they do much less. The potency for BLM drops, severely, during UI and that is a significant time of their rotation.

fyi every 3s it's a minimum of 145(DoTs) + 80(ruin i/ii) + 100/120 depending on pet. So that's 325-345, not including fester/energy drain, or CDs. And that's GURANTEED damage, which is way higher than any other class can put out atm consistently.




Edit: Oh, and this isn't even factoring in Shadow Flare because I don't have it yet. Only 47.

Edit2: And don't forget the Raging Strikes + Contagion combo for a lot more than 20s of increased damage on our DoTs.

While you are setting up all those dots the black mage is melting face. Plus good luck to you on hard mode garuda if you are on feather duty spending time setting up dots while you have to burn them down quickly. If the dots had shorter intervals I would agree with you but they take bloody 15-30 seconds. Thats too long for a dot class. Plus I did not pick summoner to damage with dots I picked summoner for the pets and the pets are pitiful.

Yeah, and after we set up the DoTs the BLM switches to UI and does considerably less damage, where now we do the same damage for the rest of the fight.


The first few waves where they spawn at Garuda are very good for SMN, actually. Just have your DoTs pre-loaded(aka high timer) and Bane.

You are so clueless about the value of burst in several fights. Not all fights will have the boss in the same place as adds, so you can't immediately bane and that means you spend 7.50 seconds getting 3 DoT's up on a target to bane after.

I don't think you understand how bad a ramp up of 2.5 seconds is because somehow SE forgot to take DoT's off the GCD or at least reduce it to 0.5 seconds for DoT's. And I don't think you understand how bad it is that during the GCD or casts we can't command a pet to reposition it away from an incoming instantkill skill.

In Aurum Vale the difference between having a dragoon instead of a second summoner is huge. Frontloading aoe damage is going to be very important in many fights and the SMN doesn't have that.

Hell, Fester can't even be considered burst considering the needed 7.50 second ramp up of applying Bio 2, Miasma, and Bio for it to hit at max potential for actual burst. They should change fester so it does its max value if any DoT is up, instead of varying potency per DoT up.

And I won't even comment on the pitiful pet abilities that sit on a 30-60 sec recast time, let alone Enkindle which is just terrible.

Tri-Disaster is just worthless.

Crescent don't bother you will always have people who say the class is fine when its clearly not even the person who made that knowing the summoner topic and admitted they do lower damage than the other dps classes and they are not meant to be dps but support. You know how funny that sounds?

Who the hell rolls a dps class to be support? Heck bard has support skills yet they still do crazy dps and the pets suck. I picked summoner for the pets not to play a poor mans warlock/necromancer.

Plus who's idea was it to make the dots 15-30 seconds? Considering the nature of the endgame fights you need to be able to put out damage quickly.

Playing Summoner right now, feels like playing as a affliction warlock from WoW x) where I don't care if my pet dies as well, since its downright worthless in terms of dmg, and there "Speciel moves" abilities on 30-60sec cd is just BAD. 'Wow Garuda did 90 dmg on those 3 mobs at the same time, they only got 4k hp >_>'

I dont mind the low burst but please make our dots instant.

when SE announced Summoner, i was expecting.....u know summons = powerfull entities commanded by the summoner.

but what we got? a dot class with a lame looking pets that does pitifull dmg....and u cant even order it to do what u want.

i was expecting a improved spiritmaster from aion (if u played u know what i mean) , in aion the spiritmaster has spells that varied based on the pet summoned

example:

Commands the spirit to use its attack skill. Each spirit has a skill that inflicts element-specific damage and weakening effect.

Water Spirit: Inflicts magical water damage
Wind Spirit: Causes stun effect
Earth Spirit: Causes the effect that absorbs some damage as HP
Fire Spirit: Causes the effect that reduces physical defense
Magma Spirit: Causes the effect that absorbs some damage as HP and the effect that reduces physical defense
Tempest Spirit: Inflicts magical water damage and causes stun effect.

The class had lots of spells like that , with dmg , threath and utility.

We need more "enkindle" spells ,if my Ruin was changed to Command pet : Assault that did the same dmg but was the spell was used by my pet i will be happy...

its dissapointing , but oh well if u dont like SMN reroll , like FFXI.....

Puppetmaster cant come some enough .....hell even BST wil be way more petclass that this joke

problem is not the smn damage itself, it's content where you need damage fast or you'll be in big trouble. mnk, drg and brd are pretty good at it. blm is good too. smn not so.

on single targets smn seems really good, especially with garuda-egi and being able to utilize Fester. but is it better than others here? if it's only equal to other jobs there needs to be an improvement.


oh and tri-disaster's bind doesn't seem to break like others, so it can be a nice crowd control spell

Funny thing is after doing the first black mage quest without giving spoilers lore wise they are the actual warlocks of eorzea the only thing I will give aways is that they are heretics and there is evil organ music playing during the scene lol.(which is awesome)

Plus this line when you learn a new skill the gem of shatto imbues you with dark knowledge.

Oh and I played a demonology(main)/destro(sub) warlock in wow did not like affliction all that much.


edit: @ Abesut black mage is more of a destruction warlock from world of warcraft and infernal (infernal warlock in d&d has some ice spells too if I recall) warlock from d&d bursting people with fire magic with some ice on the side. Played a hellfire warlock in d&d 3.5 and in neverwinter nights 2 black mage feels like I am playing my hellfire warlock.

you gave a bad example, summoner is really really good for the garuda fight and especially on the add phase, bane works wonders here, other than that, I hate the class, I hate the ramp up the damage feels measly, UI makes dots hard to track, class feels clunky. and I'll probably be rerolling.

been playing as BLM on my gf toon ^^ its really awesome, dunno about the lore tho, except that they remind me about Siths xD Was hoping that we at least would feel like a demo-lock, but even that is not the case =(
What do you think about the 30-60sec cd on summons "speciel Lv40 move" is it just me or is the dmg stupid low? XDD really sucks that both Titan, and Garuda is just reskinned carbuncles xD

Pretty much. Both Titan and Garuda got the recycled abilities of the carbuncle with slightly higher autoattack numbers.

Titan itself is useless as it can't immediately grab mobs once they've been damaged, and the garuda egi is very niche, basically used when you need to switch targets a lot and Ifrit's travel time is not viable.

In every other scenario Ifrit egi will be used because it does the most damage and the utility of the other summons don't overcome that gap.

I had a feeling this ability wasn't any good. I'm really glad I stopped playing SMN in the 30s.

I have ilvl 77 blm avg about 260 dps on boss fights. My ilvl 80 SMN is avg 200 dps plus another 80 dps from the pet......once your dots are up on heavy movement fights spamming ruin II makes you better then a blm. Granted BLM has way better burst but very long cast times. They both do very well they just have different play styles.

Try checking post dates for threads before you resurrect them.

SMN is the last thing that needs a buff.

First off, Ruin and Ruin 2 do low damage because SMN is a DoT class, and all of the DoT damage added together combined with a more powerful base spell would skew SMN way beyond the other dps classes. Your pet's base spell makes up for the difference in damage from BLM and WHM base spells.

Second, the only thing wrong with Enkindle is the cooldown. It should be 1 min, but I assume the reason it is so long is so that you can't stack Rouse+Spur every time you use it.

Third, Tri-Disaster is low damage because it's bind utility, not meant to be AoE damage.

Finally, buffing any of the above complaints would make SMN even more overpowered than they currently are in PvP.
