What we know about PVP in 6.0:

Here is everything that is known about the new casual PVP mode in Endwalker:

This better not be Combat Potions mk2, this atrocity deserves to be sunk into the ocean, never to be uncovered again.

I hope this will also mean that all the Jobs get balanced in a way, where you can have proper 1vs1 matches with every possible matchup between Jobs without fights being onesided (looking straight at you, DRG "mains") or incredibly stale (anyone vs healer). Teamfights would be alot more fun that way.

Lol, there is always going to be some level of toxicity in video games, especially ones where you have to work together against other players. I feel like in general, the ffxiv playerbase is incredibly thin-skinned. Someone said some mean words to you in a video game? Hide chat. Taking away chat from everybody is extreme and I've never heard of any other game doing that. It's bs this happened to the pvp community. People get upset, name-call, and argue during savage raids. Should they remove chat for that too? No, because communication is necessary in savage. It's just as necessary in pvp. The macros aren't always enough. We aren't just being punished for the small percent being toxic- we are also being punished for the small percent who cannot control their emotional reactions.

I can't imagine a lower priority when the focus is and always should be team-based gameplay.

I'll take anything at this point. As much as I crap all over pvp (and yes it does deserve it) I want to like pvp in FF14. But that requires SE puts forth a modicum of effort into it. Only 6.0 will tell.

I don't think you understand my point here, so i try to explain it to the best of my abilities.

The way combat works currently in PvP, can only be described as a "rock-paper-healer" system. Tanks are low budget Dps Jobs (which is fine by itself if it weren't for Combat Potions), Healers are low budget tanks because you need at least 4 People (or 2 DRG) to bring one healer who knows what he's doing down to the ground. As a healer you can neither kill or get killed.

PvP stands for "Player versus Player", it is literally in the name on how it should be designed in order to properly work. What we have, is no proper PvP, but a low budget sidecontent that resembles a MOBA (League of Legends, Dota 2 and so on).

While MOBA's have their own "charm", it is by no means the same thing as MMORPG PvP which is normally (and should be) alot more complex compared to the former.

If any Job has varying capabilities to kill any of the Jobs, it would not only create proper balance among the Jobs, it would also affect Teamfights in a way, where one's individual performance can actually influence greatly, instead of being limited to the terrible skillkit we have at the moment.

-give every Job as many Skills in PvP as they have in PvE.
-design Skills in a way where:
A: Healers have few, but powerful Healing/Shielding abilities and may apply a healing sickness debuff on healed target, which punishes spamming in a short set amount of time (like 5sec or so). They also should have a reasonable toolkit that helps them buying time (for example, being able to cast multiple Dots and debuffs, like paralasis and petrify, as both single target, as well as aoe, but with a reasonable CD) and potentially being able to kill people who underrestimate them.
B: Melee and Ranged DPS jobs are actually fine, but could endure some changes like NIN getting a proper Stealth Skill (certain Jobs get in response a detect skill) or SMN being actually able to summon something, instead of being a oGCD faceroll Mage.
C: Tanks are mostly fine the way they are, but should have more Jobfriendly abilities and Playstyle, like:
-WAR being able to teadeoff his defenses and even CC vulnerability for more damage for a fixed amount of time.
-DRK having Lifesteal abilities that trigger unter certain conditions and powerful abilities that cost him HP.
-PLD being capable of covering allies, granting low/mediocre healing but having overall modest damage output and no CC
-GNB having alternative effects for some Skills and being able to swap between them under certain condition (like switching between single- or multitarget/AoE and switch between melee or ranged mode, while im combat)
-in order for this to work, Combat Potions need to be gone.
-if you still need healing, then Frontline- and Feast maps should provide said Potions as a item that can be "picked up" by destroying barrels or crates that are placed in some corners (needs to be destroyed, then you need to walk into the aoe circle which heals you and nearby allies) but those should have a long respawn CD.

Funny, everything you have described are from original Frontline where this same fourm being spitting on in the past and request for changes.

I don't see the Heavensward PvP system ever coming back. The development team probably don't have the time to balance PvE, and PvP where you have just as many actions. It may have worked back during the HW days when there was less jobs in the game. You are playing the wrong game if you want PvP to be treated as a main feature. It's a side activity in XIV and that's unlikely to change.

I still enjoy PvP. Frontline & Rival Wings more so than Feast. The Feast has become too much of an exclusive club. No rank decay makes it so that unless you go no-life on it at the start of a season, you have next to no chance of reaching top 100. The queues will be dead later on. Kudos to those that will/can but the Feast playerbase doesn't really grow from it.

Number 6 will be curious to see how it plays out. We have this to some degree in frontlines and it sets some people off. Also love to see same players fill all the top spots with kills and still lose. Small rant, why is it so hard to kill people at objectives? Yeah, I miss the heavensward PvP days. I used to do a lot of the feast as an Astro back then, got pretty high in the ratings too. Now it’s basically just “go whm or lose”

Gear used to be important too. Wearing a vit. Ring to survive a melee lb as a healer, min maxing by collecting gear from other parts of the game. Good times.

I was in a PvP FC back then too, but now all of those friends have quit, after what PvP was like in Stormblood.

Same here. I also liked the WoW-Legion era of a PVP rank that increased your power in Frontlines/BGs. I would love a stat template that gave your gear importance without making it unbalanced. Maybe adding something similar to Eureka and Bozja where pvp gear can give you pvp defense or haste without being OP.

If there's Glamour gear along the lines of the Feast rewards on the line I'll fuckin do it... and probably hate every second of it.....

I figured that I'll add a suggestion since I'm currently thinking about it. Every pvp mode is going to eventually need this, but this is for the upcoming mode personally. I am also going off on a lot of assumptions based off the information that's already there.

I would like to see a custom mode added for the new mode just for premades...kinda like what feast already has. I see the new mode consisting of a full party, but I also do see the restriction of how many can play together in a group, kind of like what frontlines currently has. It's to help with the catering. (Plus I personally miss seeing full group premades go against each other, but I don't feel as though that's important. So...)

There will be another live letter prior to Endwalker launch where they will go over PvP changes. I believe it's scheduled for early November?

Although not directly talking about the new mode (the question was about Rival Wings) there is a good discussion to be had here:

1. A lot of players do not want to pvp
2. There is a big skill gap and a lot of responsibility placed on players that add stress
3. The Reward system needs to be fleshed out and improved upon.

They also mentioned during one of the media tour interviews that character roles would not matter in this mode, so I'm wondering if it's some kind of vehicle-focused thing akin to Rival Wings.

It could be CTF (Capture the Flag). You need any role in particular for that.

I believe SWTOR has warzones that can be done with no role restrictions, but I must admit it has been years since I have played it.

Objective based PVP does (or did) exist in SWTOR- was a few years since I played it - one of the best examples that I can think of was Huttball, in which the team had to move a ball over to the other team"s side and score points i.e. CTF. However roles were not irrelevant at all. I played a sage in that , and as that class could rescue players it had one of the best skills for the match.

Even so, Huttball was a lot of fun in combining PVP with teamwork, it had other maps that were good objective-based maps as well.

They use to back in Heavensward but they removed it to try to prevent toxicity in Feast. It didn't really help as less people wanted to play feast then it already had. Feast is extremely faulty. No one wants to play it as it's not rewarding and cheaters generally get the rewards with the high que times meaning people can cheat ques for automatic wins. The prizes only give a 100 to those in the top 100 and thus it doesn't support the average player and it makes it something few would want to run. The sad thing too is these rewards permanently get retired. some are actually nice rewards like mounts and glamour. SE didn't think the devs didn't think the mode through at all. For starters communication is especially necessary in this mode and chat functions don't allow you to properly communicate and strategize with your team. Toxicity will always probably happen in PvP anyway. It gets frustrating. Raids are the same way but we don't see them tossing communication with raids. In terms though the community isn't what it was back in HW and is a lot less toxic. Actually they kept something that creates the the most toxicity in the game. The Novice Network. Great feature that lets the community chat to random people but it makes a lot of mentors believe they run the game and aren't players like everyone else. In terms SE stated about creating a new PvP mode not necessarily the removal of feast. If they do it'll probably be a replacement of Feast for a better version. They've done this with other content too like Diadem. In terms Feast and PvP has been reworked before such as crfeating PvP skills and changing the previous wolves den that locked at certain levels. The original was 30 minimum though you wanted to be maxed geared and 50 in ARR then level 60 in HW. If they follow the same pattern they might create a feast that might attract people to want to play it more. Ever wonder why people focus BLM? That was the strat previous to changes with their flaw of targetting people to be put to sleep. This is no longer the case and sleep has been reworked and put on healers. Still people seem to target them regardless in any mode regardless their melee are in the front and more likely to be killed first. LoL. Sorry to ramble on but just went on on on how previously this went.
