How many more jobs will we be getting?

I imagine it's getting harder and harder to balance the jobs and more and more resources will be spend adding new weapons, skills, quests, and more due to more jobs being added. So when will we be getting our last jobs? Next expansion, or a few more down the road? FFXIV isn't an old mmo but it's just something that's been weighing on my mind.

Do you think Gunbreaker will be the last tank? Do you think we're getting our last healer next expansion (if we get one at all)? Lemme know what you think.

I imagine it just gonna be a healer and caster and ranged at this point. The jobs could be anything at this point I'd imagine healers might be chemists or something and for caster I have no idea since the only ones I could think of is Blue mage as a real job and spell fencer but red mage is kind of rolling with that. As for physical ranged... maybe something that uses crossbows?

I do believe we will get a few more expansions minimum. This game is popular and makes SE $$ for their other game projects.
We at least should be getting a new healer and of course as per usual a plethora of dps

It used to be jobs were 70-80% unique, with 20-30% overlap in things like
-Gap Closer (Spineshatter Dive, Shoulder Tackle)
-Self mititgation (Second Wind, Perfect Dodge, Keen Flurry)
-Single GCD DoT (Phlebotemize, Touch of Death, Mutilate)

But now jobs are 70-80% homogenous, with 20-30% being their flavor (Jumps, Chakra, Mudras, Cards, Fairy).

But like even tanks for example:
-Edge of Shadow/Flood of Shadow=Burst Strike/Fated Circle=Holy Spirit/Holy Circle=Fell Cleave/Decimate
-Delirium=Requiescat=Bloodfest=Inner Release

I'm starting to wonder if they're running out of FF jobs to draw from. Maybe they could further refine the soul crystals so you can split Samurai into a specialization like Sekiseigumi (whom might use firearms with their katana) or spec into a Blademaster that has more katana emotes? I'm just wildly speculating here but it does seem like we're running out of base weapon types.

Probably at least two more expansions worth.

I suppose I should clarify and mean viable MMORPG jobs. We learned with Blue Mage that not all jobs translate properly. There's not that much difference between say the job of Fusilier with the job of Flintlock so they might not be viable to put into FFXIV because their weapons are already nearly identical to that of Machinist.

Umm there's alot of jobs they can draw from like Geomancer, Rune Fencer, Puppetmaster, Sage, Thief, Juggler, Freelancer, Beastmaster, Corsair, Gambler, ect..

Only problem of that FFXIV suffers from the Holy Trinity system which hinder jobs where they feel all the same instead of unique, instead they can't be true to it's job identity.

I'm sure we'll get a few more jobs at least. Square has had a lot of success with MMOs so they will likely make a new one once they're done here.

Let's see... (according to my wishes):

Magic Jobs:
- Geomancer = dps with a lot of ground control - maybe, the master of it. The weapon is an aetheric form of map,
- Oracle = healer using words of power and visions of the future as the spell source. The weapon is an Orb,
- Time Mage = another limited job, of course. The weapon is a clock,
- Necromancer = a dark form of healer. It is capable of summon tiny lesser void creatures for a limited time. The weapon is a wand with a crystal of darkness on top.
- Aethersword = a melee magical dps capable of using unstable manifestations of weapons attached to the arms (like pikes, claws, swords, daggers, etc) that fades rapidly (each hit forms a different melee weapon but made of aether/magic). For the weapon, the char must use a catalyst device attached to both arms.

Physical Jobs:
- Hunter = ranged dps using a pet companion like a dog, wolf or other fixed living creature and capable of creating traps on the ground and/or using small bombs. The weapon is a whistle.
- Artificier (or Aethermech) = another dps capable of creating explosives, itens and improvise mechanicals contraptions like a true McGiver using knowledge of the aether or magiteck. The weapon is like a portable computer-like device attached to the arm.
- Warden = a tanker that changes his appearence and atributes for a limited time inside combat. To facilitate for the devs, all the body changes like we see in Vincent from FFVII. Each form give a set of changes and buffs to the body. The weapon could be a little totem or amulet.

I need to look around for it but I do recall Yoshi-P saying that he wanted to try and bring all the jobs from FF11 over to FF14 if possible.

As far as the subject: we're probably going to get 1 Healer and 1 Physical Ranged DPS, MAYBE 1 Magical Ranged DPS (and BLU will be split into it's own category of Limited Jobs with any other coming out). Anything beyond a Healer and prDPS is pretty much pure speculation on even arriving.

Personally? I'd like to see Sorcerer/Mystic Knight as a melee dps that has their own version of Trick Attack and uses Black Magic "spellblades", but moreso physical affect than actual magic, maybe with 1 or 2 DoTs as well.

It wouldn't surprise me if at some point, SE went with the expy route. Meaning they start adding jobs with no lore/context and all skills mirror that of an original minus the animation.

I just don't see it feasible to add original jobs when the devs makes great effort at simplifying the combat designand encounters.

I mean GoGo from ff6 had an editable list of abilities, it would basically be a free lancer with "mimic" ability, i guess. Also agree with the mystic knight thing

I really like the idea of a Freelancer job that uses a system akin to the old Cross-Class system we had for combat jobs that basically lets us put together our own set of skills. Sadly if SE even entertained such a concept they'd probably make it a limited job like Blue Mage since it wouldn't have a clearly defined role.

Not to turn this into another BLU thread, but to be honest, it's not that BLU didn't translate properly, it's that they royally screwed it up. There are about 5-6 threads that go into detail on how they could have properly done BLU. The foundation is there, they just need to figure out how to properly balance it out. Heck, look how long it took them to figure out SMN. SMN is finally on the right path. Jobs like BST and PUP could work like the Chocobo companion system. And no one buys the excuse of "X job is too hard to balance", because if you look at the classes/jobs that have existed since 1.xx and 2.XX they're a shadow of their former selves and have changed significantly.

Final Fantasy has a stable of classes/jobs that they can pick from, the only question is how much do they care about said class/job.

Yes, it's easy to draw parallel for each jobs because all job needs to be able to clear all the content. You can't have a Healer without ST and AoE spells, Tanks need cooldowns to mitigate incoming damage, etc.

As for your example, you argue they are the same, but it's only superficially true: they are not the same move..
• Holy Spirit is 350/Ranged/2000MP + cast time 1.5sec
• Fell Cleave is 590/Melee/50BG
• Edge of Shadow is 500/Melee/3000MP + 30sec to Darkside
• Burst Strike is 500/Melee/1C


• Holy Circle is 250/Melee/Circle(5y)/2000MP + cast time 1.5sec
• Decimate is 250/Melee/Circle(5y)/50BG
• Flood of Shadow is 300/Range(10y?)/Line(10y)/3000MP + 30sec to Darkside
• Burst Strike is 320/Melee/Circle(5y)/1C

Look at those number: Fell Cleave towers over the other ST but Decimate is really low, Meaning a WAR wouldn't use his AoE in the exact same situation as the other 3 tanks. DRK moves sustains a Buff while the others do not. PLD have spells. WAR is the only one burning his gauge on his attacks... See? What you claim to be identical are not..

I totally agree with the first part of your comment. However, I don't see weapons to be a problem: We have PLD, DRK, GNB, SAM, RDM that uses blades, BLM, WHM, BLU that uses staves/canes, SMN and SCH that uses books, DNC and NIN have hand blades.. I admit they all use a subset of each, but there is so many weapons in real life, and so much more in fantasies that I really don't see it as a problem..

Its getting easier, at least with tank and healers. The gameplay for those is dumbed down and similar enough that the hardest part of introducing 30 more tank jobs would be figuring out the names for 20 more sets of the 2 different base styles.

In theory, theres a lot of difference between the tanks.

In practice, none of what you said makes any applicable difference, and the rotations and burst windows are incredibly similar, in that you either have 2 rotating combo windows and filler or a combo window and a burst phase.

Correct. There is nothing stopping Blue Mage from functioning within the framework of FFXIV, aside from the stubbornness of the development team.

Mime is the only job that led me to initially doubt that it could work within FFXIV. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that there was an interpretation that could work. Think about certain fighting games that feature a character with access to moves from a variety of other characters. Mime could work the same way, with access to moves like Dragonfire Dive and Deathflare that can be used at will. Rather than directly copying the actions of teammates, Mime could function like a sample platter with at least one action from every other job that exists.

I wouldn't necessarily want to see a mime as a job, but I could see how they could put one in that could switch roles (tank/dps/healer) at will. I don't really see a good point to creating this, other than fan service, but I guess it's possible.

I was thinking mime could possibly copy the other jobs it has been grouped with, letting you switch at will to the tank/dps/healer job that you're running a dungeon with at the time. Sounds nice in theory, maybe, but seems like a mime would be a convoluted mess of mechanics.

I'm hedging my bets the game is over with officially by 7.0 and a new mmo will come out and this one will be sidelined. That being said probably nee jobs every expansion until that point.

if we do run out of ff jobs to use, what's to stop them from coming up with completely new jobs, it's not other ff games haven't added new jobs to the ff series, no reason this game can't do the same.

For new jobs i want:
-reworked Blue Mage(magic dps)
-Geomancer(magic dps)
-Chemist(healer)
-Mystic Knight(tank)
-Oracle(healer)
-Beastmaster(physical dps)

I would like to see a new Role. That would need a massive modification to most encounters to account for a new 4th role. It could also be a "Hybrid Role" that replaces one DPS and then you just have to reduce HP bars based on a new party config with naturally lower DPS.

Role: Support .
Function: Supporters do hybrid functions like DPS/Healing or DPS/tanking but focus mostly on status alterations, enfeeblements and buffing. Thus, they are not better than healers, DPS or Tanks in their roles, but they bring much more utility for the team play. And also give a reason to be to status resistances and who knows, maybe elements might become relevant. Icon: Purple.

Jobs for Support.
Blue Mage - Caster/Healer - Cane - Debuffer (Alternate Statuses). Blue Mage has a huge array of poisoning, weakening, blind, and other status effect attacks. They also cover areas, being a massive debuffer of enemy groups with a little of healing on the side and mostly low damage, has no burst and only relies on DoTs. (less offensive than SMN)
Mystic Knight - Tank/Caster - Mace - Buffer (Elemental Damage/Resistances). Mystic Knight has a pretty solid resistance against attacks, and have many buffs to prevent damage and play with elemental resistances. His damage output is pretty low but has solid bursts. (Lowest DPS of all tanks, higher DPS than healers)
Risk Breaker - Ranged/Melee - Curved Sword - Debuffer/Buffer (Damage Types/Resistances). Very low Attack has a ranged combo build up (builds up risks) while buffing his group for damage types and elements, and after risk is build, spends it on melee AoE finishers that consume party buffs and turn them into enemy group debuffs. (has the highest DPS of Supporters).

All classes are feeling way too similar, the game has already being too streamlined for too long in terms of builds and player style and customization. Is the price to pay for balance and honestly, i don't know if its worth it. We should get more freedom to play roles in a more diverse way, the trinity has served it's function, is time to move on.

Despite wanting them to implement some jobs (e.g time mage [that had my hopes killed during heavensward and now that ast has taken a weird spin i'm more hopeful lol], beastmaster [could just implement a system ala companion and voila], mystic knight/spell fencer, geomancer, chemist, thief and etc) it would be really nice if they also introduce more ffxiv-themed classes for more diversity, like perhaps a garlean magitek knight class or a limsa-inspired musketeer/dual gun class and such

Perfectly put, we need a support or hybrid role

There's many unique options or ways they can mix jobs to make one job

Like could put chemist and gunner together as a unique healer with a sniper rifle

People think once we hit 100 that's it but not much is stopping them going further SE most likely won't drop ff14 for a very very very long time

There would be nearly no hype if they just invent a job out of the blue. This game banks heavily on pre-existing FF mythology.

Doesn't have to be a job its based on could just be a character like gun breaker
Completely unique and new job with element's from FF8

I think the game will at least go to level 100, but beyond that, who knows? I can see maybe 4 more jobs coming before it all gets wrapped up

Well we get 2 per expansion and unless something goes drastically wrong we're getting 2 more expansions and 6 more years of XIV. So I'd say at least 4 more.

By that point though we'll have had 5 expansions and 12 years of reborn FFXIV, reckon the game could potentially start winding down around then.
An MMO can't keep attracting new players forever, eventually it just gets too long in the tooth to do much other than tempt old players back for a bit, a strategy that naturally has diminishing returns.

Necromancers as a melee healer! Using a scythe to rip aether out of enemies and then your voidling summon uses the aether to heal ppl. Your other voiding demon is your dps summon that attacks with you as you fight. Your rotation could even be rotating between summoning voidlings to dps and to heal. Necromancers could be all about mitigation through defense buffs.

This might be the first time for me to shoot down a necromancer idea like that one, mostly because I firmly believe necromancers ultimate goal in battle is to obtain and command corpses and the fastest way to do that is to put 100% of their attention into dealing death, not worrying about mending their comrades.
