I saw no suplex during the ghost train fight.
Why does everyone talk about this? Is there a meme I am missing?
Yeah that's an old FFXI meme :

You should've expected this tbh. SE is known for disappointing players. SE, not square, but SE changed the name of Sabin's suplex move in FFVI's GBA port to "Meteor Strike", whereas before square merged with enix, the SNES version of FFVI had Sabin's move called "Suplex". If you can read between the lines that alone should tell you all you need to know about why there was no suplex on the train in this game. I came into the patch expecting to be disappointed cause I'm used to se's bull***t at this point....despite loving this game.

Fixing for consistency is disappointment? That's new to me.
Truthfully, this kind of thing would be better suited for a Hildebrand quest. It's entirely possible that Doomtrain could make a second appearance.
Due to the train being multiple carriages long, a suplex would just be an unnecessary amount of work for the XIV team just for a joke.
One thing to remember when it comes to older FF move names is that some changes are due to character limitations. Thats actually why we originally had Fire3 instead of Firaga in the original FF. I believe it was FFVII when this stopped being as big of a deal because technology evolves.
Of course some things, both ability and just localazations end up staying around due to nostalgia. Like Spoony Bards.
It was just a dream.
god damn it... :c
It's absolutely surprising to me that they elected to put a Phantom Train in the game and not integrate some form of suplexing it into the fight, or even in a cutscene after the boss had died. The train is only a popular boss because you could suplex it. Like, if suplex was forced to miss every time you tried it because the boss is a train, no one would care about the boss. It would have no special, memorable features about it other then "You can phoenix down it and kill it", and it wasn't hard enough to leave a lasting impression of "This boss was super hard, I hated that boss". I imagine that, without suplexing it, the Phantom Train would be as forgotten as the Tunnel Armor, whose only features were "You can kill it with the Thunder Rod if you don't open the correct treasure chest the first time through the cave" and "This is how you use Runic". It is absolutely disappointing.
I suppose Hildebrand is our only hope now. I would be fine with Godbert suplexing the Phantom Train.
Make a really high budget CGI movie of the suplex
I'm glad.
The ability to suplex the Phantom Train was vaguely amusing at the time. Yet like so many jokes it became a dead horse that was brought back to life and beaten again and again and again.
I never found the Phantom Train iconic because of the suplex ability having a weird effect. I found it iconic because it was a bittersweet story arc in FF6 with great music and an unsettling atmosphere. I grinned like a fool when I saw the true fans of FF6 being catered to instead of the sort who want everything to be as ridiculous and contrived as Hildibrand's adventures.
So the people who can enjoy a little bit of comedy thrown into a more serious moment aren't true fans of FF6? Is that what I'm supposed to understand from this post? Because a lot of stories inject a little bit of humor into more serious parts of their story just to ease up on the tension a little bit before continuing to pile more on.
I fail to see how I'm not a "true fan" of FFVI because I can appreciate a good joke, intentional or otherwise.
If you were a 'true fan' you wouldn't be bothered by the lack of a dumb reference to the suplex thing since simply having the Phantom Train show up in the first place is what most people who enjoyed FF6 wanted to see. It's just a case of people being ungrateful.
There's a clear misunderstanding here, which is understandable since I never said anything to the contrary.
Straight up, I think the Phantom Train fight is a good fight and I do like it. The first time I ran O5 it was all smiles cause I was kinda giddy that we got to fight the Phantom Train and it actually wasn't a boring fight, I just feel like it missed a golden opportunity. Does the fight suck and never should have been made because it lacks a Suplex moment? No. Do I think it could've been better by throwing in some extra fan service with a Suplex moment? Absolutely.
Nah they be separate. Phantom Train is only prominent in FFVI. Other games it appears in is mere cameo of the Phantom/Ghost Train.
Doomtrain is different in both design and function.
Believe what you want.

Sabin and Blitz commands make XIV Monk look like shit btw.
I want to see some boss uses suplex on MT though.
Quite a sight to witness don’t you think ?
Doomtrain is called Glasya Labolas in the Japanese version of FFVIII.
If you want, you can hug one of the ghosts to visit a surprise guest to make up for the lack of suplex. You get to meet a great person :P
Good. It was a tired meme seeing it being posted everywhere.
Which is interesting since Glasya Labolas is usually used for the more powerful Hill Giants in the series. And XIV already used that faithfully.

:)
Anyone who seriously played FFVI knows a phoenix down is the best way to handle the Phantom Train.
Even people who have never played XIV immediately ask me if you can suplex the train when they hear it's in the game. VI is famous, and that's one of it's most hilarious moments. Shame it didn't make it in.
Feel free to agree to disagree, then. There's no need to make it personal, especially since it's a pretty trivial matter in the grand scheme of things.
It's also not pretentious to criticise people for being ungrateful about not getting a dumb reference forcibly injected into content when the true reason most people who genuinely wanted to see the Phantom Train was for the sake of seeing a cool, interesting fight. The developers captured the charm of the original rather well and do not deserve to be getting backlash.
Look guys, the fact of the matter is, this was a missed opportunity by the Dev Team to include an iconic moment. This could've easily been added at the end of the boss fight.
I don't miss it, because the main quest shouldn't be silly in that way. Alpha was enough of a sensation of disbelief, suplexing trains would have veered it into the ridiculous.
roflmao
I forgot about that part of FFVI
This is funnier than gau running around like a monkey
*queues for Sigma V1.0* (Red mage) - *looks around* so whose suplexing the train today?
Tank- No Monk....
Me- Shit...its done..we cant do this fight...all over... time to go.
^yep..it happened.
