Quickly, Summon Reinheart !
omg
call for the powers of captain reinhart?
HEART!
Is expecting Reinheart to translate this in zero point five six six three seven nine eight milliseconds!
I've played over 300 hrs of MH 3 Tri it's just so...so good.
(edit 3rd is based on it)
Monster Hunter and Skyrim are good games! Yoshi-P has good taste in games!
If only there was a monster hunter mmo for us.
I think xiv could stand to be a little more.. elderscrolly? is that a thing?
I heard Monster Hunter Tri-G for the 3DS will not have online play, like the Wii Tri did. This upsets me. Upsets me enough not to cure...
It was....
-Could wear any piece of armor in your inventory at any time. Some pieces fit certain playstyles better than others
-An overall level (Physcial level) which is raised by skilling up other specific components (Rank Level)
-Could use any spell or ability at anytime as long as you had already learned it and had it set
-Movement speed was reduced when your weapon was drawn
-Manual attack
-A system in which you could invest points into new abilities (FFXIV: Guildmarks, TESV: Perks)
-Gear didn't drop from beasts
I'm sure there is more. I never played The Elder Scrolls series before but lately I've been playing Skyrim on my friends computer and I was astonished because I was playing a good version of CE release XIV.
I still wish we could have all of the above things back, just done right. The ideas themselves weren't bad, they were implemented poorly and weren't appropriately tuned for an MMO.
Skyrim was an unbalanced mess from a gameplay perspective. But it wasn't an MMO so it didn't matter.
You could break that game without trying. That's how 'well' it was designed. In a competitive MMO environment that is as good as a dead game.
I hope SE ports the game to PS3 as well as Bethesda did. Although that was their fourth time with the same results so they're quite a bit ahead.
Agreed. It's chock full of bugs and poor design decisions* that can lead to some painfully tedious gameplay, but because it's content heavy, visually advanced (though not as much as FFXIV), and single player, people are very forgiving of it.
*For instance, the UI is a mess, the tutorial can be easily broken leaving you in an endless loop, dragons can frequently be killed with ease via a number of almost impossible not to use exploits (ranged weapons ftw!), the NPCs continue endlessly to give their default lines every 5 seconds when you're standing near them (and the voice acting is the stuff of nightmares, so why would you do this--it's a design decision that still confuses me), and the list goes on.

AI of Awesome?
I wonder how many people have died from bug testing ES5.

Did someone say bugs? :O
Yeah, I don't understand it either. People seem willing to overlook its obvious flaws but I don't see anything that truly compelling about it that would lead me to do so.
I quit playing the second time that the following happened:
1] cleared out huge dungeon all the way to final room
2] failed to discover item along the way necessary to opening final room
3] had to return to start of dungeon and reloot every body/check every bookshelf for missing item
Spending an hour poking around poorly lit virtual bookshelves waiting for my cursor to indicate there's something to loot isn't fun. In fact, it's very unfun. Sort of what one might expect if there was a hidden object level in hell.
Psh. Ideas are a dime in the dozen, and in this case the execution was lacking as well. Skyrim did nothing extraordinary. Oh, and sometimes ideas are born dead.
Nothing ironic about it. People have liked subpar games since the beginning of time. Just don't act like XIV should learn anything from them.Quote:
Irony is myself, & and I'm sure many many others still enjoyed it far more than most anything this year(or last year I guess?). Haters gonna hate.
And still does and damn it's good. I had to relapse after this thread reminded me of it.
So much battle strategy in a real-time combat that you'd think XIV could have even a fraction of it because it's based on slower AA-pace that supposedly gives possibilities for more strategy.
And crafting in Tri is amazing too. It's all about what you can get from where or from what monsters instead of watching a loading bar fill up over and over again with automatic items =/
XIV crafting really picks the worst parts of all crafting systems in MMO's while simultaneously throwing out all the possibilities for any gameplay. When you really think of it it's kind of an achievement in itself.
A real achievement is that the game somehow managed to make it's players think that everything it did is by default the worst thing ever created in the history of mankind, and anything less than a complete axing and rehaul of everything name included is too little.
It's like a mass hypnosis in a way. Fascinating.
btw if you played skyrim on console that's also part of your problem, it is definitely pc master race on this one, turning console players into peasants once again. That "visually advanced" pic is xbox 360, if you can play ffxiv, you can play skyrim on your computer and it looks beautiful. Bethesda buggy, but you buy it on the computer and the modders fix the bugs. Sad but at least they're fixed and you don't have to play console piece of crap with bugs they'll never fix.
The bugs and weird game design in some aspects were universal though. People always say you shouldn't look past obvious flaws when it comes to certain games, yet people do that with Skyrim, the game is flawed but it has a lot of content, it definitely wasn't worth the perfect scores or GoTY it deserves, if anything Bastion was better.
Also, while Skyrim has some pretty (yet generic) envrionments and atmosphere, the character models continue to be ugly as sin as the rest of their games. Even though graphics don't make a game, they can also be a pain to look at sometimes lol, playing skyrim enough you no longer notice how badly characters are modeled and animated, and this is talking about the PC versions, unmodded.
Just saying, if i ever get Backstep-Fireballed i am rage quitting forever
Good lord I hope this doesn't translate into FFXIV having a lack of story, repeated content, and mindless monster hunting repeatedly.
Huh, we're already there! Dammit.
You know these two examples are interesting because >my opinion< is that monster hunter is a game where you have tons of gameplay and good fights but the world feels empty and skyrim is a place where the world is full and the fights are only so so. If those two elements got pulled in oh my this game.
Also yes skyrim makes this games seem like a bug free paradise. Ive glitched the main story TWICE so far to where it locked me out (console commands saved me some- no Blades story for me though) and ive had 5 quest items stick to me and the Windhelm murder quest also lock me out. That said it still is my favorite game this year. Why? Everytime I play it I have a new adventure in a new place. No dwarf dungeon places just like the last, each little bandit cave has its own little unique thing/story/gimmick and that alone makes me go whats down this way because I'm rarely if ever disappointed.
That adventure is what I look for in a decent MMO. I see that beginning to form each update but I think to get there you need the world redesign to happen first. Otherwise your spending all this time creating places that are mostly going away.
Exactly. And the character models are powerfully u g l y. Like.... play in first person permanently ugly. I was thinking of that while reading the other threads on this board about male character models in XIV not being masculine enough--that's such minutiae in my mind relative to the character models overall look, which is unbelievably ridiculously awesome relative to any other game I can think of currently.
Skyrim's dungeons are each different in a sense, but they aren't completely different. They re-used assets like the same bridges, walls, enemies, traps, puzzles, ramps, and many other designs. This is most commonly seen in the Dwarven Ruins areas, and the caves. It's not nearly as bad as the previous ES games, but it's still quite bad. The voice acting is another factor that they re-used to death.
The lack of story, bad design decisions, poor AI, and the bugs of that game were a major downfall for me (horrendous on PS3), but I still enjoyed and platinumed the game.
FFXIV is the only game I've played where I truly still feel up to this day that it was released so heavily half-assed.
Yet I give Square Enix respect for not abandoning it. Yoshida has done a good job so far and the recomplete overhaul looks fantastic. I just pray they don't make the same mistake twice. My friend who loves Final Fantasy said he didn't like this game at all when he saw it on my PC. That he probably won't get it for PS3. Recently he asked if I was still playing it and I told him about changes and the 2.0 rehaul and PS3 release and he says he may then play it.
As for Skyrim... I really enjoy it. I love the Elder Scrolls series. Sure it does have glitches but what game doesn't? I have yet to come across bugs in Skyrim that break the game. Besides nothing is more fun than using the console to spawn a ton of bandits and a few giants and watch the people fly. XD Best bug ever and I never get tired of it.
Just enjoy the games.
Most games don't come with low grade textures when the game is installed, frame rate slowdown after your save file gets too big, and thousands of other individual issues. Skyrim is a great game, but please stop giving them a free pass by using that "what game doesn't" garbage. Continuing to say that gives devs the message that it is ok to release games like Skyrim and FFXIV (the launch version) in their current states.
Yea Skyrim was terrible. Probably won't even get game of the year. I mean just look at those graphics. If it had FF14 graphics then okay, yea, MAYBE it would have been saved. And those freaking hilarious bugs where the most obnoxious things would happen in the most random places? Total game killer. They shouldn't let us save anytime we want if after 500 saves the load time slows down by a couple seconds. And the character models were so ugly. I couldnt fap to any of the female chars even with all clothes off. LIKE HELLO. It's 2012 people, WE CANNOT SETTLE FOR MEDIOCRE GAMES NEMOAAR!! I DONT CARE IF U HAD FUN IN SKYRIM! FUN DOESNT MATTER! DEM DEVS GOTTA GET DER AKT 2GETHUR N MAKE A REAL GAME. AMIRITE?
They should just pull Skyrim off the shelves and Betheseda should start working towards Skyrim 2.0.
I see implied sarcasm in there when he said he wasn't able to fap to the character models. XD
