So I’m trying to do a few things here and there, to get more people aware of the PVP scene we have here on FFXIV. Here is some of the threads I have made in attempt to build awareness and get more people involved:

The Feast PVP Player Interviews

This post is a small attempt to generate some curiosity among some of you amazing PvE players. Here are some reasons from me to try it:

• It’s extremely fun and challenging

Once you get into the Full Swing of things it can be highly satisfying. You can get that amazing high you feel when you do something clutch in PvE. You know, those moments when your tank dies and you sleep/bind/heavy all the mobs coming at you and save the day. As OT you end up taking the role of MT and OT or vice versa, showing superior tanking skills and everyone bows to your amazing feats. When your healer dies and you end up solo healing the most intense part of a run!

Yes I know you all have been there and done something to feel that amazing Adrenaline rush. The Feast will bless your days with this feeling on a regular basis I promise you.

Now it’s no cake walk for sure, you will have to put in a lot of work. But fear not you can practice and hone your skills in 8v8, as preparation to play with the big wolves in the den in 4v4. The challenges you will face will be very different from what you are use to in PVE.

• Forces you to think outside the box.

Playing The Feast has really made me come up with some interesting methods, macros, strategies and theories regarding the classes I play in Feast. It’s forever changing and one rotation will not carry you through throughout your endeavours as it can do in most of the content in PvE. This mode really does a great job of forcing you to think outside the box in order to perform to your classes full potential.

• Breaking your Limits.

The PVP skills are there for balance and to give your class a more unique feel and edge over the other classes. Using these skills give you way more satisfaction as you have more toys to play with. (More toys make you happy right? ^^; ) These tools help really push your class pass the limits intended for PVE. You will find yourself feeling like a true Primal in no time.

• Bad sports.

Now sure you will come across some distasteful players. People take 4v4 serious and even 8v8 sometimes. But don’t let them scare you away. I mean when people scream and shout at you because you didn’t “Watch the video” does this always scare you away? Then don’t let it stop you here. I’m not proud of anyone who adopts this attitude, yet I fully accept that it exist… Ugh…

• After being addicted to PVP.

If you’re like me you will get addicted and not do anything else for weeks! But once you purify yourself from the dark depths of PVP. You truly appreciate the variety PVE has to offer too. I know this sounds weird but I love The Feast. So when I find myself doing the odd dungeon, it really feels new again and I really love being able to play two sides of one game. I had a blast just running Amdapor Keep on my DRK yesterday and was like “Wow… this feels great!” Being the first dungeon I have done in weeks. ^^;



Please don’t be afraid to give it a shot. I find (On my server at least: Balmung), when I ask people if they have tried PVP over 70% of them reply with.

“No but I have been meaning to try it for awhile now.” - Balmungians

There are many different reasons people have not tried it, some common ones are:

• Too busy with raids.
• Afraid to try because they lack knowledge. (This was me lol.)
• Their friends don’t PVP.
• Didn’t even know there is a active scene.

Some of you will happily/Unhappily go AFK for even up to 1 hour, when nothing is going on. I say give it a shot in your down time. You may actually like it and find you might be a natural!

This group is growing and we are having a great time. No longer playing with people who take things too seriously and we all just hang out in discord. All 8 of us playing 4v4 together. I teach what I can, I also contact the best of the best PVP players from multiple servers to jump in the discord and help provide answers, for those that want to improve faster. Y'know, I'm not one to pvp normally. Yet even I like the Feast. It's one of those where if you're a weak link(like me) it's still possible to have fun because they cannot continually target you to win. If anything you prove more of a distraction to them if you are an easy kill. I'm not making this up, as SMN even though I was a weaker link, I apparently was annoying enough that both opposing warriors holmganged me at the same time. I wasn't doing more than spreading DOTs and trying to pop off deathflare amongst my attacks but that apparently annoyed them enough to do that. Note this was unranked. I doubt this would happen in ranked which I... honestly don't want to step in. I know enough to know that I can't cut it right now in ranked, not with my current mindset and not with my current pvp skill level. Still, unranked is fun.

I tried it out for a bit as a healer and quickly got bored of it. Either your team gets stomped on, or you stomp the other team. And playing as a healer, I'm always the fall guy the minute something goes wrong. The rewards are not worth the time and the people I have to deal with.

Don't step in, It's so bad they can be so mean to people. 2 Gold members today were so evil to me. 8 on 8 isn't as bad as 4 on 4.

When you create a PVP environment that I don't have to worry about getting that kind of talk I'll consider doing PVP. Until then, never going to happen.

This truly saddens me, as I would love to see PVP in this game grow and become something. For the people who do PVP most of their time, this would be amazing. I admit we do have some issues regarding this behaviour, though please remember it's not everyone. But I'm doing my best to try and get information to those that are new and want to try, but feel they cannot because no one will even give them a chance. They say they that they want people to learn before they step into 4v4, yet they don't realise that even if a new player did 8v8 20 times they still wouldn't know the basics of 4v4. On top of that the abuse is received there also.

The people that are playing PVP are not detrimental to it's true growth. Same as anything else like this, growth comes with popularity. And I welcome all of you to come. I promise I'll get some cool tricks for those of you Interested to read soon. And if you dig deep some of it is already out there.

But you are not alone many of us are going through the same things.

Let me guess they have to just "git gud" right? When our community is so small, you should feel the need to lead by example. Not only in your gameplay but also how you hold yourself as a player too. Especially if you feel you are a "Top/High level player". If you don't care about another persons feelings then why should they care about your silly Rank?

I don't care if every other PVP scene is toxic that doesn't mean we have to be. We all see the same names in there. Can you not see how damn small we are as a community? Attitudes like this can and will alter our growth.

This message won't reach every player and I'm sure it does not apply to all of you. But it will reach enough of you! I am talking about and to some of you here. And if you feel like it might be about you even a little bit.

My words will touch those that truly matter. Many of the top players wish that there was more teams to play in Light Party. Yet some fools are stopping this from happening with their negative ways. (I don't even think that they know they are). They complain for SE to purge the Lore Farmers... Yet they can't see that a lot of these farmers are the same ones they are so quick to abuse. :/

I saw your post and while it is heartfelt, I think most people won't care and just brand you as a "carebear". I never liked PvP things in general, but the Feast looked interesting enough to try. I don't regret getting my feet wet, but I just can't really see myself investing in it long term. I think "whoever ganks the fastest wins" just isn't my cup of tea.

I enjoy unrated 8-man Feast, I refuse to play rated.

I'd rather be branded a "care bear" than a "Toxic individual". Right?

Feast is the biggest BS in this game. Played over 400+ matches on solo queue to get my mount. And honestly, its a flip of the coin. thats all. You can't carry bad team mates by yourself.
The amount of harassment i've seen is funny, And sometimes i can't even blame em. Done it myself. People do stupid stuff and it almost seems like they do it on purpose.


Even when you're telling them what to do they seem to do the opposite.
I miss Frontlines. That is 200x the fun this is.

Imho.

People praise PvP for being unpredictable, the "opposite" of PvE, but from my experiences, it's still predictable: Kill healers first, annoy healers if you can't kill them, have tanks hoard medals, have pets harass healers, etc.

@ Blitzace I would love to promote Seal Rock. It is fun I agree. But it's just too much of a drag to get new players to try it right now as the queues are too long. There is a right time for everything and I will take the opportunity when I see it.

@ MilesSaintborough It's much deeper than that I assure you. Even for the short period of time the meta has changed and developed.

The most basic/common thing to do now in solo queue is to burn the DPS with the attack buff. Depending on your composition you may also try to CC the healer.

When it came out it was kill the healer or kill the ranged. Because they are the weakest. Regardless of who has the def buff lol.

So the meta is changing but some of these players are doing amazing things on their class. It's really nice to see the game that we all love, played in a different way.

The Feast Solo is pain and rarely fun.
Dont get me wrong, i really like pvp and especially The Feast.

But its the players which ruined this mode for me.
Like previous said, its like flipping the coin and hope for a good team. But mostly, you get the bad team.

It gets even worse for healers. You re under pressure every time. No matter how bad your DPS were or how stupid your tank was, its ALWAYS the fault of the healer.
If someone dies because the other team know how to play, you have no chance. But instead to keep fighting, your team starts flaming how bad you are and that you should stop playing pvp.

If you thought duty roulette could be bad, try The Feast as healer. I dare you!

Been there done that. Even though I only did 8 vs 8, we healers are the first ones to get blamed the minute things go wrong. Nah, of course I didn't heal you cause you kept running away or going behind a wall. I purely avoided healing you for the lulz.

After playing on PVP servers and doing instanced PVP for many years I can honestly say I'm done with it. MMO PVP always leads to the same set of behaviors and gameplay balance issues no matter the MMO.

1. It brings out the worst in people. The attitudes you see in PVP are just awful, I get being competitive and wanting to win, no one goes in to PVP wanting to lose (or at least I assume so) but when you want actively start berating a losing team? That's when it stops being fun and at that point I'd rather see our team lose just to spite that one person.

2. Healers always end up overpowered. Look I get that healers shouldn't be a free kill and want to be useful in PVP. But when you get a situation with 2-3 healers on team that are cross healing each other and no one ever dies? That's not fun, it's boring. This usually happens, even if you focus one, the other 1-2 being able to free cast from 30-40m away so you can't stun them ensures your target can't die. MMO devs need to learn that healing in PVP should delay death, not prevent it. There is a massive different between the two.

3. Premades vs pugs. Another issue I always see though I don't know if premades are an issue in this game so I can't comment one way or another.

Well we play just for fun I guess, but serious players can be born through stuff like this too. We have a lot of potential here. Tea Pan also said he will take time out to personally train the most dedicated players we see in this group. (Tea Pan is an amazing teacher.)

All we do is lose.. ^^; But actually when we set up games between ourselves we rotate the members around to even it out. This works really well and after each game i always give tips to the newest pvp players. :)

We can try to do things ourselves here, yesterday for the new players I made them all gang up on one experienced healer while the rest of us watched. Just to give them an idea on what's needed to take down a healer, and what healers can do to shake people off. It was very educational for a new player. We just make the best out of what we have... ya dig? ; )

Understood, can't help you here but we all play this game for fun. PVP is for fun too. We are proof of this. ^^

So again yes PVP is not for everybody. But for those that are interested here is an alternative if you just want to play for fun or for whatever reason ya know. :)

I have indeed tried the feast like... 3 times or something like that. Its interesting but I have little time so its taken up by roulette and daily stuff. The queue times can be a real pain sometimes as well.

Also, for the love of all that is good do something about Astrologians shielding move or do something to boost up the other 2 healers. Seriously, it takes way too much to kill just one astrologian while the other 2 healers are relatively easy pickings in comparison.

TBH i have never liked pvp in any games, because also when one does it's always against people that live and breathe PVP. Granted i used to not mind the other pvp before feast.
But i think what really stopped me from at least trying feast was PVP in The Division, players there ruined it for me in FF. :(

Don't let people ruin things for you. Play amongst friends if you have to. That's what we're doing.

Also, check it out. If any of you would like to be part of this. Let me know. Once I reach 100 members I'll transfer my alt to another server and do the same there. But if you guys are up for the job.

No, and probably never will. I suck at PvP, which doesn't mean that I don't still enjoy going up against my fellow players, but in such a small group it becomes easily appearant who's the one who is not pulling their weight and I got really horrible trash talk before so I don't feel like stepping into this again.
That's why I actually like Frontlines, for once because I'm just one small part of a big crowd and the burden on me doing well or not is a lot smaller, and also because the things I'm actually somewhat good at (annoying opponents as well as making it easier for others to kill them, be it through stopping them from running away or lowering their defense and so on) get to shine there.
In normal PvP, everything goes by so fast, I'm not helpful at all. Just realizing again and again how much of a burden I am on the others is not fun ._.

Well, I can't join your Balmung group as I'm not on your server, and I feel like the representative should be someone experienced, so I wouldn't be a good choice for that^^°
But I'll bookmark it to see if one day a similar linkshell will emerge on my server once you found a fitting representative :)

I was just putting down what puts me off. I can power through toxic players and not feel belittled from baseless insults. But it's still a negative.

The problem I have is I'm uncertain of FFXiv to make PVP a main real focus worthy of my time and energy where I don't build essentially a skill for hours that will dissipate because the scene dies.

You sound like a fellow FC member of ours who loves PVP, though he plays less FF now because Dark Souls 3

Pvp is just bad right now to devote time into. 1 out of 20ish games are competitive: not to mention the longer queue times.

I have not tried it yet, I used to love PvP, but with the queue system in FFXIV, I tend to do only the Frontline roulette. I also noticed that doing PvP as a healer is not fun, all the enemies target me (i know why) and my teammates just ignore them while they are attacking me. Then they I die and then they die and I get alot of verbal abuse going my way.

Do you have some tips for me, before I start doing The Feast?

Oh I have loads of tips, especially for healer. Do you have discord, add me there and then I'll talk to you. You don't have to have a mic it's just talking for me gets much better results than typing away.

Ive done lots of PVP and tried the feast a bit. Imo its just not worth the effort. The rewards don't interest me, and like people have said its healer dependant and its stomp or get stomped. PVP in final fantasy isn't really that great anyway. I'll do some FL if they add more, thats about it :)

I've tried queuing up a few times as DPS but it took way too long to find a match. Which is too bad because I'd like those PvP mounts.

As someone who heals the feast, I'm going to say it's almost entirely melee dps dependent. I mean some exceptions apply but...
I can keep people alive, sure. But if they can't land a kill first, we're not going to have a good time. That and within the last minute of the match, a well timed melee LB can make or break the entire fight.

Whenever I do any form of PvP it tends to go the same way, I turn up at a spot and get pulverized by multiple limit breaks. Even if I am not the only one there. People are too reliant on them, it would be better if they were removed or failing that limited to one limit break per match per character without the ability to regen and spam it multiple times during a match so that people are less reliant on them.

Lol Feast is awful. Gonna be so happy when Shatter drops and Frontlines is king again.
