Just like the title says. What a nasty little toxic environment SE has created. It's unfortunate that the armchair generals make it so minimizing the chat window is the only way to avoid vapid, disgusting language...I'm not saying I minimize my window, because I secretly enjoy laughing at the Salt Lords having strokes over a piece of furniture, but Im a little ashamed, at least on Primal, of the pvp community. I thought we were better than this.

SE didn't create this with PVP. This is how the Internet is. Try DF, Reddit, or these forums sometime--you can be nasty and spiteful without cussing.

Exactly this. Competitive environments actively bring out this kind of behavior. It's not even exclusive to an internet environment. Ever been to a live sporting event? Worse yet, ever participated in one? There's no end to the salt and pepper when it comes to competitions. It's been like this since the dawn of time. In comparison to other online games, the comment box in FFXIV is downright polite.

This is something that comes with competitiveness. Though it's to be expected, this does not make it acceptable.

However fighting this attitude is like the police fighting the war on drugs. It would be never ending. All I can say is do your part by not being a "Toxic individual", and try not to let it distort your vision over the whole community. A lot of players are very chill, nice and have learned to bite their tongue even when faced with frustration.

If you find yourself stressing, vent to your friends if need be. Try not to curse out another player. You don't look good and I'm sure you don't feel any better.

The lack of enforcement doesn't help either, game enforcement is very temporary and lackluster in this game. One week of housing bans, nothing visible for months.

Rinse and repeat for different areas of the game.
