Fix Dragoon jumps

Jumps just doing and X axis movement instead a parable movement, they are not doing the same that the parable movement animation, that mean a tiny rock can you stop on the air, also you eat all AoE even you are not walking on them.

Also, for example, in frontline if you jump on a player and he hides behind a wall, if the jump encounters a wall not do that abrupt animation to the floor but a small knockback of 30% of the path traveled with a good animation for example! something better than now pls :)

Z axis implementation ftw although z axis movement is what we called position hacking in other games and lets not forget how the forum community loves to accuse something out of the ordinary as hacks or cheats or whatever BS

I don't get why Jump can't just ignore terrain.

I mean, look at the animation. Look at the freaking animation. Now explain why it can't ignore terrain.

Because it would allow players to access areas they shouldn't be able to access and glitch their way through the scenery. Elusive jump would be abused horribly.

I reckon if they changed it now, they would end up having some DRGs getting into places they should. Meaning they would have to implement invisible wall after invisible wall into places they haven't yet covered.

Also, it would be much easier to program the way it is now and implement.

Simples. Although I would prefer it myself but it could lead to other issues like performing a dive while in a hallway/tunnel. You end up going through the roof and this could cause a series of issues.

I managed to jump over something a few times with Elusive Jump. Though I had to use it mid-air to get it working, so there's that... :(

Yoshi decided to go for that route because he tought that the players would use a party of only DRG for some fights with unavoidable damage (mainly hit kill / wipe mechanics). And what you are asking for is essencially a few frames of pure invencibility.

In old Final Fantasy games Dragoons traded invincibility for a turn though? I'm sure there can be some drawback to jumping that doesn't involve it becoming a get out of jail free card with no drawbacks?

Also, forgive the newbish question but couldn't it be made so that there's a Jump animation but the character is essentially separate from it? IE the animation is of you moving upwards, however the actual action is a second of invulnerability in which you simply do damage and 'reappear' where you started?

Just a thought as I was bored and reading.

I base the idea off another game I played ages ago in which the animation for a move called Rush employed the same tactic. It obviously has certain drawbacks like lag desync and other things my tired mind can't recall at the moment though.

If encounter some anomaly upon calculating the jump path (BEFORE JUMP) skill says a red message you can't do it. Just put some rules for jumps but is annoying to see a tiny rock blocks the jump

Technically this wouldn't be an issue since you need a target for all jumps and you cant target through walls or get to places with no enemies on them. Exception would be elusive jump but this one could just be excluded from the changes and considering the horizontal movement of the animation, it wouldnt make sense anyhow for elusive jump to ignore terrain.

I get that reasoning but just as they made certain mechanics able to ignore hallowed ground of PLDs, they could just do the same for jumps. Also the majority of wipe mechanics dont have targets available the moment they hit, so jumps couldnt be used.

Really more playing devils advocate here more than anything, i think jumps are fine.

My point is still valid as what I had in mind when typing it is in dungeons. Tam-Tara has lots of low ceiling tunnels, there's also Haukke Manor, and areas around Eorzea this would apply to.

Problem with the drg jumps is the few seconds after were your stuck not being able to do anything so yes that would need a fix, many drgs have died because of it, lol

1) There is nothing wrong with being hit by AoEs. SE has discussed this.
How about you learn to pay attention and not use a Jump skill when an AoE is about to be used.

2) You do not get hit by AoE if you are jumping over them.

If there is an item in the way, or LoS is broken, you do not magically end up next to said item, you are returned to your original placement near instantly.

I must say, while it would be ideal for dragoons to have Jump ignore terrain (or actually jump over stuff and have it be invulnerable to AoEs or avoid them altogether while the character is in the air) it would be pretty overpowered in the sense you could use Jump, Dragonfire Drive, and the stun jump (I can't remember the name) to avoid damage altogether.

As for it being a bug: it like isn't. It was most likely intended to avoid exploitation of the move in fights and to traverse areas (i.e. using elusive jump to get up to places you normally couldn't get to). As for Pyreflye's comment, I read it like it was in jest. This is the internet.

More than avoid exploits if this is intentional is because SE programmers don't want to do some effort programming a nice jump, just too much for them program a parable jump calculating the terrain.

I'd love to see this fixed and I don't have a dragoon, like literally my level 34 Lancer.. Not a dragoon lol.

To the very real comments that there will be a lot of open areas now, I think it should happen - dragoon's should be able to feel that real third dimension of movement. SE -will- get a bunch of I'm stuck reports for the first few months, but a /return /teleport can fix most of that, and if not in PvP it won't matter that much anyway (PvP would be a concern, removing no target jumps from having Z axis ability as others have suggested could help fix that).

Edit: Seeing the picture, I have no idea having not played Dragoon how getting damaged works- I'm not going to make a comment on that. Just commenting that I think the jumps should have a Z effect (because imo Dragoons should be able to jump like no other).

If you jump (standard character jump) + Elusive Jump you move through the X axis at the apex of the standard jump's Z axis.

It's a nifty trick...

There are so many things that could go wrong with a parabolic (that's the term, not parable, since English isn't your first language) curve to any of the jumps. Just look at the U'Ghamaro Mines - with an actual parabolic curve, you'd either only be able to jump to something 2 yalms in front of you, or you'd break out of the map every single time you tried.

Adjusting the curve of a parabolic function is pretty easy though, just need to calculate ceiling height - although in most places there is a lot of room to jump. Perhaps with adding height calculations they can just add a separate animation for "ceiling 1 inch above me head", I've seen Dragoons jump into the ceilings before lol.

Sounds like what you're actually asking is for SE to remove the invisible walls around rocks and small holes which you can't regular jump through, much less Dragoon Jump.

There is no needs of remove invisible walls, simply add conditions, same you can do magic through the holes I want to jump over the holes...
