i wanted to see what ppl rly thought about the thoughts with a poll about it
personally i think its a horrible horrible idea that destroys a game
why make old gear obsolete just to make sure the new gear is used? why not just make gear the compliments the other gear like in ff11. hey i worked 2 years for this gear its awesome ^^ yet i have more to get :D. 2 weeks later they riase the level cap. damn all my items are shit i have to start over :|. instead of introducing new items that could be like ooo thats better for this specific job in this circumstance :O! but yet my stuff isnt rly shitty and i can keep using it :D. i just think its stupid :|

incase you didnt know they plan to up the level cap every year or so

im not complaining about raising the cap NOW but if they do it every year or so and never reach a stable lever like ff11 had 75 that is what i would hate

I am going to go with hate the idea, not because I do not think it can work, I just have 0 faith in SE pulling it off.

They have never released enough content at a major expansions to follow in wow's foots steps on this one... I do not belive Blizz releases enough content with WoW in expansions to validate destroying all the old content every few years.

Steadily releasing level increases negates old content unless the old content is revisited every single time. SE has never released a mmo or expansion to a mmo that was not bare bone... so I feel safe to say the chances of them releasing enough content at an expansion or level increase is near the level of impossible unless they increase the amount of people developing for this game.

i think that be crazy hard to do without just keep making older gear jsut be do a quest now its +1 do another quest its +2 now and that would become boring like leve quests after a couple of increases (still thumbed up though :|)

I was thinking more like..

Put caps on content and make the hard earned old gear turn into rare mateira for the new gear from the new content.

The level caps on content would keep high level people from flying thru it easy and the conversion of the say lvl50 gear to rare matira for the new lvl60 gear would keep people from feeling like they worked so hard for the lvl50 gear only to toss it.

that saves 1 generation because lets say
gen1 awesome gear
gen2: awesome gear gen 1 becomes awesome materia
gen3:awesome gear gen2 becomes awesome materia gen1 becomes bad materia
it doesnt rly help mcuh with keeping it up to date

EDIT: also why cant u implement other content that compliments the old gear yet all the best gear can be made into materia so that crafters wont be killed off i mean that doesnt seem like a bad idea :| while its ur idea its just shaped around keeping the lv cap the same

it can a synthesis using the old weapon, some new ingredients from the new content, or items you got from some type of fame/currency. It also shouldnt be the only gear, but simply a choice, you can upgrade your old good gear, or you can try to obtain a new one.

To be honest, I don't really care about this issue that much. It's way too early for it to even matter.

I still can't see why people are complaining about gear becoming obsolete, there is no gear in this right now that is worthy of being called "good." Unless they increase the cap to 65 soon and add much better gear, this is a non issue

im not complaining about the gear now but they plan to up the level cap every1-2 years

Were you expecting them not to increase the rank cap and make new gear sets to work towards? Do you know how a pay to play MMO model works?

cause this game should totally be like all the other games most ff fans dont wanna play (expecaily ex ff11 players)

Very much truth. And all this talk about "horizontal" growth is a bit overrated. There will always be only so many viable horizontal options. More of those options end up being pointless to work for. People want to put effort into equipment which has a noticeable impact on their strength. Gear should become obsolete to keep us occupied.

First option, but I don't want SE to be as... aggressive or extreme as WOW.

Do it 5 levels at a time, and make sure that the previous tier/content's gear is still viable as low end or entry level end game gear for the new content.

As long as SE says from the outset: We plan to raise the levels slowly every year or so, players can play/plan accordingly planned obsolescence is a wonderful thing. You know your gear will become obsolete, you know not to get TOO attached to it and you know that after a certain point, it's not worth stressing over that you don't have it.

The FFXI team swore themselves black and blue that the level cap would not be raised. So people might have spent 5-6 years trying to obtain a particular piece/set of gear. If SE had been slowly adding a new level cap every year until now, things would have progressed much smoother in that game. People spent years trying to get gear that they thought wouldn't get obsolete (maybe the occasional side-grade) only to get blindsided by the fact their gear was now suddenly 90% obsolete by a gear set that someone could by for like 100k.

When your gear becomes obsolete there opens up a new goal to work towards. Otherwise, why play an MMORPG if there are no goals?

You dont get why most people would favor a cap increase, well, it only creates more goals. Whether it be a cap increase every year, or every other year. The fact of the matter is that if you got the best gear during that year, you are awesome until cap raise, and the goal is to be awesome again. lol

a couple of people seem to have said, ffxi players wouldn't like this. But thats exactly what xi did, no?

It was always expected caps were going to increase over time, but now we have an ish timeline. The question is what is the rank cap going to finish at.

If your old gear serves you in acquiring newer and more powerful equips, than I'd hardly call it obsolete. Its served its purpose and it's simply time to move on.

There's really no reason to like or dislike the idea based on the information we have. The idea is just a vessel for them to change things. Things are going to change over the course of time no matter what. They seem to use level increases as a way to give players new abilities to use. I'm ok with that. Although look at WoW, they have run out of imagination over there and they're actually deleting abilities players have had for years. So to me it's a non-issue. I understand the FFXI 75 cap point of view but that is far from convincing me that there is an issue here. I'd like to know exactly why you hate the idea though.. please tell me.

I like the idea and I want them to put it at work first. Then I'm gonna judge.

havnt u heard most ex 11 players quit becuase they did it and now ff11 is now catergrised as pre abbysia and abbysia ff11 because of it

That was more recent. FFXI, as with FFXIV, had their level cap at 50. FFXI players didn't start off with a Lv75 level cap. That was implemented to that point over time. This happens with every single MMO. Once the developers have a grasp on how they want to execute raising level caps. It gives room to develop new zones for those level brackets along with new end game content to keep players busy with new goals, new rules, new main story line, and new gear sets. It's what we refer to as an expansion.

The 75-99 level cap increase in FFXI had more to do with how it was executed. Players were more in shock at how quickly the game changed and evolved that they didn't know how to take it. Also, by increasing the cap that high leads to major balancing issues that need to be worked out. This is actually pretty manageable if the increments are in 5 levels per cap raise. So, I hope they take FFXI's advice in that sense.

the 50-75 cap raise wasnt bad because thier wasnt rly anything worth doing fi they were to raise this cap from 50- a permanant thing and stay thier idc because i didnt work for anything but if they do it every 2 years it would get annoying and do just like it did ff11

this was my point. FFXI did increase its level cap every year or so from 50-75.

At some point im sure there will be a hard cap with this as well im sure. Almost every mmo has raised its cap from when the game first came out

uhhh actually ffxi increased the cap from 50 to 70 in less than a year. and no one was pissed off in the slightest, it actually shipped in NA with a 70 cap. and a couple months later was 75.

so your right, in that it wouldnt be bad to get some fast cap raises for now.
