Suggestion for New Allagan Tomestone 2.2+. No more weekly cap.

So just a suggestion.

How about adding new Tomestones with no weekly caps but.... Make all the new dungeons only drop 15 Tomes per run. I would even say make it so no one can speed run the new dungeons. Add barriers like you did to stop people in AK, Make it so people can't skip mobs by locking them out with boss barriers.

And before anyone says that isn't enough tomes, Half the people on these forums complain because FFXIV is a Monday game. Yes it's grinding. But it will be better than capping and back in the same boat we are in now.

Also could add like 15 per day to duty roulette.

I agree with removing caps. Maybe not with getting tomes in coil. Idk because not sure what the gear will be like in 6-10. If the gear is higher ilvl, then I would totally agree for a few myth in 1-5, or just 1-4 even. I would play everyday if there were no caps or restrictions.

They have already announced a new tombstone, and are removing the cap on myth tombstones. However, it's possible there will be a cap on the new one for a time. Then down the road they will loosen the cap, and so on and so forth. :)

I like the general theme of the OP. Artificial lockouts and cool downs are intrusive and lazy.


However, there is a third factor we are forgetting that is just as obstructive to true fun gameplay; grinding. And by that, I mean experiencing a very narrow part of the content, and repeating it over and over again. We should have more options for earning stuff, and SE should be trying to preserve the life cycle and time that was invested into making a lot of the content, and keeping it relevant.

My suggestions:

1. No cap on new Tomes

2. New tomes can only be purchased/traded in by old tomes and primal clears with the following ratio:
100 Philosophy = 1 new tome
100 Mythology = 10 new tome
5x Primal Clears (Leviathan, Moogle, Ifrit, Garuda and Titan) = 50 New tomes.

3.After every 1000 tomes collected, one must collect a 100% gauranteed drop key item from WP/Pharoes Sirius, Hauke, Copperbell, AV, Hydra and Chimaira to increase the cap to 2,000.

*Once you consume the new tomes you must repeat the above quest to increase the cap again, with no cool down and no lockouts*

4.To be able to access the new tomes you must have spent more than 5,000 Mythology with Aurania and 10,000 Philosophy, completed main storyline, defeated all modes of primals, all dungeaons and cleared coil t1-t5.

5. Make Twintania drop 250 of the new tomes every time she is killed. (Only twintania)

But we're already doing this, though. Your suggestion is just putting a longer time consumption on it but in the end it's the same objective. Timecore activities doesn't make things more fun. It's the same activity, it just takes longer to do it in which some people can't do it for that long and so they get left behind.

That seems to be the running theme I've noticed, some players want other players to be left behind, but that's not what the devs wants because it's archaic.

Pshaw, that plan is utterly impenetrable to anyone without the ability to play every day of the week. You are proposing that the 99% be punished rather severely so the hardcore grinders can grind more -- the outcome for which is that they cap jobs more quickly and then complain about having nothing to do again. If you got 15 tomes for an hour of play, the hardcore grinders would fully gear in 4 weeks and spend the next 3 months decrying the lack of content. Meanwhile, your average player isn't going to spend every second of his free time for the next 4-5 months grinding a single dungeon for the opportunity enter an endgame progression that is already a cesspool of selfish assholes.

I bet you this new tome will only come from coil and new dungeons until 2.3 with new ct drops it. So it probably will be a grind till 2.3.

What I'd really love is for them to tone down on this insane vertical progression, and stop falsely inflating it for hardcores. I get it you guys are bored cause you're at the top, but you really aren't the largest population of the game, I even think some hardcores are dying for some horizontal progression, so this is not to be taken as "boo hardcore eff you stop playing" I'm just saying, maybe a different content style, could make a huge population of people (both hardcore and casual) happier.

People most likely won't continue to play and pay for a game that they can only enjoy and progress on one day. The more people you lose, the less people you will have to do dungeons with and the longer the wait times in duty finder.

I don't understand why people feel a need to get upset and swear about players that want to spend time progressing. It's like shooting yourself in the foot.

And some people want to be able to play the game. You can't do everything in 20 hours a week already. You can't cap myth, get CT loot, run T1-4, do 42 beastman dailies, run 3 EX trials, and run any number of the 28 roulettes. Doing all that requires playing the game like a full-time job, so most players don't do everything. I wish the game were less grindy so I could get back to some of the games on my backlog. Alas, ARR is all I can afford at this time. A change like OP suggests would have me quit, and I'm likely in the top 10% in playtime.

and in how many of those MMO the cap was reachable in less than 4hours?

I'll try to answer. I am advocating inclusion, not exclusion. The longer content remains relevant, the better that is for the community and the game itself.


While a certain degree of grind is always required, limited content grinded over and over again is avoidable.

It is better to be rewarded for participating in 10 instances or events, than to be rewarded for in the same currency for repetitively spamming 1 instance.

Why - Because you create an environment where new players and veterans can participate in content together. While old dungeons and instances will be easier for veterans, their participation in them ensures a longer life cycle for that very same content. It doesn't become redundant. New players who start playing this game in 1,2 or even 3 years time will still find a large number of players actively participating in this content. (lesson learned from XI)

Additionally, by spreading rewards across current content and making progress more horizontal as well as inclusive, the stress and pressure on the development team to produce new content is reduced. We will start to get more depth and quality out of expansions and patches. Sure they will be less frequent, but they will be a lot better than small tea spoons of adjustments.

This also prolongs the life of the game itself, which in turn establishes more confidence among investors to invest more assets into the game's further development.

EDIT: Hard core gamer insults already? A bit too early in the AM for that, you filthy casuals.

Based on the games congestion, the game is popular enough that it could lose the 10% of hardcore players who are complaining and we'd all get ahead just fine. I don't bother with duty finder since I can get a full PT for most things with just my company. I tend to avoid the "elitist a-holes" anyways since all they are is toxic to the community.

But I digress...

You know what's wrong with the current cap system?

Nothing, it's fine.

Raiders can get the best stuff faster by collecting both top tier allagan tomestones and drops from coil, Casuals still get access to top tier gear at a slower pace.

Does it encourage you to specialize in a single job? Yes, that's probably a good thing for top tier content (coil). You don't *need* top tier gear for anything else. Even then, you can probably do just fine decked out in whatever the next tier down is if you absolutely have to be running a different job.

Probably has something to do with the fact that we can play every class on one character compared to most other MMOs where your character is locked into one class.

In those other games you are forced to create an alt in order to play another class. By creating an alt you would obviously get around the lock outs on your main. In this game every class we play shares the lockout and alt creating is discouraged by the increased sub fee, the lack of ability to send mail to our alts, the fact that most gear is untradable, the cross-class system, the armory EXP bonus, and the existence of the armory system.

The players in question are a very small portion of the total and are not frequently found in the Duty Finder in the first place due to the potential of being grouped with filthy casuals.

Coil - 1 hour 200 Myth (with a good group and including Turn 5)
CT - 45 mins 50 Myth (How many runs til your piece drops varies.)
Dailies - 6/day 30 mins 15-20~ Myth (average)
Ex Primals - 45 minutes 40~ Myth (again, with a good group)
Roulettes - All 4, if you got total garbage groups, 2 hours maybe. 90~ Myth.

Let's say you go through all these options on Monday at reset. You have:
Eliminated Coil for the week.
Eliminated your Ex primal weapon for the week.
(Possibly) eliminated your CT gear for the week.
Earned 400/450 Myth

This took:
4.2 Hours. (roughly)

Tuesday rolls around. You have no Coil. Essentially no Ex or CT (this is assuming you just wanted your wep/gear and you are done.)
That leaves you with only Roulettes and dailies.

So basically from Tues-Sun you get to:
Roulette - 2 hours
Dailies - 30 mins

Tues-Sun: 2.5 hours/day. x6 = 15 hours
Monday: 4.2 hours.
Total Time: 19.2 hours.

Yes, I realize you said "most players" can't do it. Which is probably true. However, it is absolutely possible to do everything you listed above in 20 hours, or possibly less, every week.

I guess it depends how you want to look at it. If you have really badass luck like I seen a lot of people on my server, You could gear out faster in Raid gear than Tome gear. Also not every piece of Allagan or Tome gear is BIS, Mix of Both is. So regardless you would still need to do both. Or we could stick with damn near 16 weeks to gear out one job in Tome gear (until they raise the weekly cap). Not everyone likes to do raids, That's why Yoshi said there will always be 2 ways to gear out.

The way I see the game and future content is. When we get a new Tomestones, 3 months later they will raise the weekly cap limit 300-450 (if they follow what they did with Myth). Then 6 months after new Tomestones are added, they will remove the weekly cap like we will see in 2.2 with Myth caps. Also they are suppose to remove CoB lockout? Still not 100% on that. Anyways we could leave the game for 6 months and come back the day after the next major patch (every 6 months) and spend a week catching up to everyone else. Unless you have to be the world first person.


So lets say there was no cap and dungeons only dropped 15 per run, It would take 20 runs to get 300 ( assuming the new cap will be 300). Or we could do 6 dungeons to get 300 Tomes @50 per run. Yes it's grinding, But I would rather grind than to play this game 1-2 days a week for no more than 8hrs total.

Also just to note on the casual player. Assuming 300 is the cap and using 1hr per dungeon and 15 tomes per run, That's 20 hours or less to get 300 per week.

Also, I obviously am a legacy player. I have run across some mean and nasty players that act elitist and the majority of them are not legacy. I am always amazed when I look them up to see that they have a few jobs leveled.

But, anyway, I still think the game does not need restrictions. The game really needs to have no restrictions. That will keep people logging in. I only play 2-3 hours a night on weekdays and find I still can easily cap everything before Wednesday, usually on Monday night if everyone in FC logs on.

Only other MMO I played was FFXI. So idk how other games did their lockouts, But when it only takes about 8hrs to cap out for the week then yeah people are going to complain.

Pretty sure most of us do. I'm playing LoS 2 atm along with many other games. And people wonder why Queue times are so long, Its not just a lack of Tanks its the fact that we only need to run a few dungeons to finish capping after we do coils.

While your idea would be cool (and I would personally love it), the point of Tomestone gear is for casual players to be able to get raid-level gear at an easier pace. If you allow raids to reward more Tomestones AND the raid-level gear then you are completely defeating the purpose of the currency. However, I do agree that it would be nice if they lifted the cap and decreased the amount rewarded per dungeon... just don't give MORE for Coil t6-9.

Everything you put there would let you get all the gear in literally 2 days and with little effort if you're a hardcore group with a static. Right now it's pretty easy to do twin in 11-12 min so you'd make 1000 tomes in less than an hour go to quest which might take 50 min then back to twin for an hour, rinse repeat for 2000 tomes per 3 hours. And that's just right now since the new gear will be higher item lvl you would do twin even faster. Also if the new gear costs a comparable amount to what we have now for myth (about 5000 tomes) that's only 8 hours of game play to be fully geared without going to new coil.

This. If people only have a few hours to play a week why even play a MMO?

I really don't like the whole time consuming grinding thing like FFXI does, But I also don't like a game that only caters to a certain type of player. Why can't FFXI cater to both sides?

Don't get me wrong, More than half the player base is probably in their 20's and have jobs, kids, school, whatever and can't play a MMO like they did in their teens.

Would be nice if SE could meet us in the middle.

Most of them are complaining because it took Months to get done and now SE is swooping in removing the lockouts on Coils and Myth. So now anyone can just spend a few days to catch up.

I think a lot of people thought SE would just raise the Myth Cap, Remove lockout on Crystal Tower and Lower the lockout on CoB to like 3 days. But no they are screwing up and making ilvl70/ilvl80 obsolete.

Because:
1. Suddenly, PF/DF standards go up. PF ilv110 Titan EM onry. "Omg we are in Pharos with someone who is only i90 we can't do this"
2. People gear out in a week and quit the game for the next 3 months. I'd rather people cap out in 1 day, and come back next week, than have fully gear within 1 week and then quit for the next 3 months.

What they need to do is introduce more content, that doesn't just revolve around tomestones. There's also fault in the gear progression design. For example, crafted gear being crap means there's no reason to pursue anything that involves crafters (ie. treasure maps, materia melding, 2-star crafting). Then there's also the issue of gil not being useful anywhere outside of buying food or for housing. Both of those avenues are potential for more content.

Removing caps on tomestones are bad, this issue has been argued many times already. No matter how slow you make the rate of gaining tomestones, there is always going to be that 1 group that ends up being the first to get it, and usually within a time frame that is not intended with the slow rate of gain. These same people will then become something of a "standard", then our standards all get raised at a much more accelerated rate.

You are looking at short term (grinding for all gear in a week, then quit for the next 3 months/the next big patch) vs. long term (capping myths and buying a new piece of gear every few weeks). I'd much rather long term.

Maybe some ppl but i can guarantee that a very large portion of the player base that can't beat t5 will just go do t2 enrage for hours because it will be the fastest way for them to get myth(14min for 50) or if it's a good group they could do it the normal way(10 min) OR if they're really good t4(8min / 50 myth) OR they'd just chain primals; 5 primals would take about an hour so that's probably the fastest and hardest way for ppl who can't clear t5. Also removing the cap will in no way make ppl go back to older content it will just make them find the most efficient way to grind (remember when the que for ak took an hour on Monday even with a full party because of speed runs?)because it would be the difference between 600 hours of grinding or 1200 hours. You are right that they need to change the direction of content cause Tomes are crap no matter how you look at it.

What do you think is going to happen in 2.2 everyone is going to say ilvl90 only for everything. Myth and CoB cap/lockout is out the door. So people are going to expect everyone to be a min of ilvl90 for all content.

As for gearing out in a week that would be damn near impossible, At 15 tomes per run that is 334 runs to get a full set of Tome gear assuming 1hr per run that's 334hr in a week??? sorry but we only have 168hrs here on earth. So you would be looking at almost 2 weeks to gear out one job. Of course what I suggest is just trash.

I think having no cap is for those of us who like to play more than one job.

"Casual players" are left in the dust right now anyway because "hardcore players" don't log in. The game is a dusty ghost town most days.

And it would cater to all players. Casual players can always play casually. It wouldn't prevent that. The whole cap doesn't assist players with less time. Even if players with less time to play get all the gear, they still need time to memorize fights. The cap is just placing a restriction on players who would much rather progress.
