Try installing leatrix. It helps make aoe a little more accurate.
Titan doesn't like anyone. :/ I mean if you're a dps, you have to stare at his .. and if you're a tank, you have to stare at his.. I miss the Garuda days.
You have to be out of the AoE when the cast bar finishes. Not when the animation goes off. Not knowing this is what kills people most of the time and they then blame lag.
Also zoom your camera out.
Lag is a real problem. I play Titan HM better on a PC rather than a laptop, for instance. Small amounts of lag from the system or the internet contribute to making the AoEs hit inaccurately. I've experienced it before and so have others. You clearly don't, so good for you.
I play from europe and I have a 700kbit(that is 85KB/s) connection that goes through 30 year old copper lines. I know a lot about lag.
However 95% of the deaths that are blamed on lag on titan are still people who don't realize they have to be out of the AoE before the cast bar ends, and don't realize the animation that goes off 2 seconds later and kills them doesn't mean anything in terms of positioning.
Oh you and your double negatives.
Oh you.
0.3 sec positioning check delay, fixes are not yet implemented. You get people like me who know what to do, how to do it and because they miss that move by 0.01 seconds they get clipped. Trust me. It's the netcode. SE's confirmed it.
Although you are right about it not being lag and it drives me batsh*t insane that people keep calling it something it's not. It just confuses people. Not to say there ISN'T lag, but that isn't what gets the majority of people.
Alright, little miss has-to-be-right. You tell yourself that it fixes the problem completely.
My FC is selling titan carries if you need help.
Sorry, but I'm good enough to avoid the mechanics despite the fact that I can recognize when the positioning check delay has triggered. 108 tomes from +1 relic.
I haven't done hours of testing or anything on this, nor do I have Square-Enix themselves backing me up on it with a statement from their own netcode or anything.
Thanks for being a snide poster contributing nothing.
The cast bar ends at the same moment the AoE circles disappear. People with bad connections have received damage even after well being out of them for a considerable amount of time.
I play from South-East Asia, and my connection is just as mediocre, if not worse. Japan's servers (the closest) are about 2500km away from where I live. I can dodge because I've learned the rotation. But that doesn't mean I don't notice when damage hits me after I clearly stand outside the radius before the cast ends.
If you've played beta, you would know that it's obviously lag when you still get damaged. It was utterly horrendous during beta, but bearable upon release thanks to the servers pinging you every few seconds (which they clarified). Like I said, I have no problems dodging, but I refuse to accept your previous notion that lag isn't a problem at all. Data still needs to travel from your computer to their servers and back. That takes time, so lag is ultimately inevitable.
Whenever you get hit by this, its simply means that you did not run out in time. The game is not cheating you, you did not run out in time. I noticed that whenever I get hit by this, I've always ran a little later than I usual do. However, due to the discrepancy between the effect and the animation, its gives people an excuse to complain. SE should just fix this shit and get it over with already.
I do know what lag is thanks. But I also know that most of the time when people blame lag they actually just moved too late. Like I've said about 6 times already in this thread.
Look at this video for example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFfu0i89gpI
You see the guy move out of the aoe, then 2 seconds later he takes damage and dies. He screams "OMG I WAS OUT OF IT STUPID LAGGY GAME" even though his entire comment section is filled with people saying he moved too late, he still blames lag.
But then if you pause the video when the cast bar finishes you see he's still inside so he moved out too late, lag had nothing to do with him dying, positional updates had nothing to do with him dying, he just moved way too late. He didn't move out until after the cast bar finished.
There's a word for that, it's called gross-generalisation. Making assumptions based on a some situations under certain conditions rather than looking through a bigger basket. This is one case study. Not a survey. Not any sort of indication of different demographics at all. There is a limit to how much syncing the server can do with your PC.
For the sake of argument, let's say someone plays as a healer with a horrible connection and connects to a server on the other side of the world, which I might add, is already having to juggle with the pings from many other players. Are you really so certain that this person would still have the same window of opportunity to dodge when he also has to heal the players in a way that doesn't make everything go wonky? To provide a precise and accurate window for dodging would forego the ability to properly heal players' falling HP.
At some point, lag has to kick in. There are ways to make the experience more seamless, but when your ping gets too high, there's just no way to bypass the problem apart from a better internet connection. I've played fighting games with amazing netcode, but I still get these crazy moments in which my opponent lands a hit on me long after I did something first.
It's not an assumption its fact rofl. You can blame lag all you want for why you got hit, but if you are in my party and say lag killed you, 95% of the time people are lying and just didn't move in time. If they are lagging that bad its the connection they have (spiking pings =/= SE's fault btw), and maybe they should A:Try to get a better connection, B:Play in a data center nearest them or if those fail C: Not play at all if it breaks gameplay that bad for them.
The world isn't perfect. People would talk about achieving market equilibrium, but the economy only ever fluctuates about that point. Any system, mechanical or virtual, can never reach 100% efficiency. Look, netcode for FFXIV is very good. Impressive even. But the way you claim it to be a perfect little gem is just inaccurate.
Did I ever say it was SE's fault? I didn't. Read again.
That's called a ping spike.
You may not have stated SE but you imply its their netcode and latency causing issues, when its likely player error. Even if it comes to latency, you said it yourself you have learned the rotation. If a player knows the rotation, its player error when he gets hit right? or is it just a free chance to blame latency? There are always going to be times where it was a legitimate complaint of latency, but so many people use it as a crutch to blame the game instead of realizing their own shortcomings, or learning how position check actually works in this game.
Also I said 95% becuase there are moments where it falters or players experience some latency, never said it was this perfect little gem, I just like the fact that I can have the same latency as anyone else who tests it but have 0 problems dodging nearly anything in this game. Either way its a moot point, complainers will complain, and skilled players will continue to clear content. Such is life.
If SE were to sync up animations with the position check (Which can't be that hard, really...come on SE, its time) almost all problems people complain about with latency would be removed.
You might have a point if SE hadn't confirmed there is a netcode issue and is planning on rolling out some bandaid fixes in the next patch.
This is beside the huge public outcry about it, by the way.

Please continue chewing on your feet if you're so inclined.
And then you can drop the elitist attitudes and wake up.

What did my thread turn into?
the first time i won titan i was dead on the second half thanks to the damn server lag. i'll be outside the aoe for a good one sec or longer then boom still getting hit.
the primals are easy its the lag getting alot of people.
my ping is 90-100ms so its not my connection 1/10th of a second is still typical.
no other game i play has this issue.
don't feel bad, I just suck. I am around 0/40 on Titan. I have been fighting him so long that I have full DL except gloves, which are AF2. I also have a Demogogue Ring for off hand ring and Ifrit's Horn and darksteel buckler. I was watching myself last night and was averaging between 6 and 8 on the damage rotation. I was told that my rotations were good and I was doing a good job dodging. I guess I need to get Garuda's Staff to be able to beat it. Or I really do just suck, lol.
I'm seriously considering starting to bump those threads again. Mine, and the one I linked to had the most response. There was one more that had a comprehensive explanation for -why- it was happening. The game -does- have a problem with how it handles latency and packetloss. A -ton- of people get hit by things they were out of. Most of them have trained themselves to avoid it because they don't get hit as long as they're out by the 90%ish part of his cast bar (I fall into this category).. you do this by pre-moving on fights like Titan, after you've memorized a bosses mechanics... or just moving (outside of Titan and WP) as most skills have a long enough cast time to be out before that 90% mark. Titan's problem is probably more that his animation and cast bar aren't really sync'd well, so now you have people that may not have the boss targeted (maybe they're breaking a rock, or healing), and only have the ground animation to go off. Not so much time, and if you add the whole networking issues then you end up with a lot of people getting hit.
Keep in mind, anything you're seeing on your screen is extremely delayed. If you see someone that appears to have moved a whole second late, he probably moved when you did on your screen.. cause that's about how long it takes actions to register. That's the nasty part about this problem. To others, you just look like you're massively noobing it up. I remember running Brayflox on my Paladin with my FC. We're all sitting in mumble. I'm dodging the breath on the last boss about 80% of the time, even though I'm out of it every time on my screen. My FC mate tells me on his screen I should be getting hit every single time, cause it just looked like I was standing in stuff and moving waaaay late.
Just to keep parroting myself. If the issue was only caused by latency, then it would be present in every single MMO. I have played MMOs for a long while, I did Google searches for various titles to try and find a single video in another game of someone (with or without lag) getting hit by an AOE they were clearly out of. I couldn't do it. They don't seem to exist. Not a single person every has been able to supply me with one. Regardless of the one video you may have watched where a guy truly wasn't out on time.. issue is still an issue. If we're going by the Titan strat of having to move before he casts, then it's a big enough issue that -everyone- in the game has to pre-move.. because so many people are having it. The entire strat to fix that whole problem, is the main strat for the Titan fight in the entire game.
Luckily for us, even with a small handful of folks that refuse to acknowledge there's an issue cause everything's hunky dory on their end, SE does actually recognize it's a thing and they're working to fix it with patch 2.1. I dunno how even the most rabid defenders can still claim it's not a thing when the company itself has acknowledged it is.
