But sadly, I think you dont get it, as well as some others here... So everyone just end up in this cycle haha.
I think you're blinded by hope to much and have expectations.

some of us understand that there will be no trailer, and we understand people are upset about it, but we also read the whole letter and not just that 1 line saying no trailer
and until e3 hits and we see exactly what they tell us there(they said there will be something) can anyone truely claim we are getting absolutely nothing, cuz thats exactly what people are acting like, like the trailer is the only thing they coulda done
Some people aren't necessarily upset about not getting to see a trailer, but about the implications that not having something like that to show at E3 means for the game's popularity and grown post-2.0.
You're right, they could do other things, let's list them:
- interviews
- new website
- 2.0 gameplay or SE employees playing demos themselves
We already know that there will be interviews and a new site, but I seriously doubt that there will be any 2.0 gameplay shown at E3. If they do, however, manage to put together a decent demo for 2.0 that they can show off, I'll be satisfied. If not, I'll continue to be worried about the future of the game in terms of actual sales post-2.0.
They could do Interviews: Oh wait thats been done
They could do Artwork: Oh wait thats been done
They could do Timelines: Oh wait thats been done
They could do Powerpoints: Oh wait thats been done too!!!
Not saying what follows after E3 can't be awesome, but I am saying this company likes to jerk around the only people supporting them at the moment (XIV wise anyway) and many of us are tired of it and use the forums as a means to communicate this to SE. So yeah, bummed theres no E3 video and your little "look on the bright side of life" routine has been done before because this is like the 1000th time they have done something like this.
I also think they just had a generic trailer and choked when they realized people would be expecting more. It's probably because they couldn't get the entire E3 package ready in time; back in the glory days the flow of most major JP games at E3 was "big reveal, followed almost immediately by massive and exciting new website" and sometimes they put the site out first to get people frothing and revealed it little by little. Clearly they couldn't get it all done in time, so releasing the trailer on its own would be underwhelming and a "shameful display of failure".
They're being very earnest about this like you'd expect JP business decisions to be: have it all ready and people will enjoy it, or don't show it at all. I think this hardly comes as a surprise when you consider every decision they've made with the game so far.
What the problem I have is we were lied to and I read the whole letter. It's not that I can't see the trailer. They should have removed that long ago and their biggest thing they've been hyping is 2.0. It was on their road map and we also get the usual "coming in 2.0." Then the week before they pull it and give a small reason as to why. And I do find it hard to believe they knew they were going to do this now. They've had plenty of time to let everyone know that things were going to change and this could have been avoided. But if I can't believe they are telling the truth on something like that, how can I expect them to say the truth to anything? Doing that kind of stuff makes me say "Don't believe anything they say." and that's not something I want to tell people about a company I want to support. I don't know that we aren't getting anything, but I'm also not going to say we are. I wish I didn't have to say that.
People have high expectations with a company they do business with. You want the best service you can get. At this point I won't even bother looking at their roadmap anymore because I feel like it's just going to change, but that's me. It's a decision they make and if they want to leave their people in the dark feeling like that it's fine, but don't expect me to kiss their boots. For all we know we could be getting more, but if they say they want to keep it under wraps for now and then flood everything how much more are you expecting them to show if they don't even want to show a trailer?
That's all I'm saying.
Here we go with the lied thing again...
Copy and pasteQuote:
When a Company is trying to get their game into the light.. there's really no such things as "lies". If they "feel" that Not showing the Trailer there and its better to show it at gamescom, but still show alot of stuff at E3 Regarding FFXIV in General to people who don't know, so new people can see the new improvements of the game. Then so be it. It doesn't make them "liers" they just think that this is a better route to go.. the only thing us players need to do is accept it.
When, it comes to Marketing, things can and will change, it doesn't make them "liers". Yes its a let down for us waiting for it.. but we also have to understand their position, if they feel this is the right way to go. then so be it.
If I was SE i would have taken advantage of the pre-hype to E3 and released the trailer, then at the E3 event itself turned up with a playable version 2 build.
/crosses fingers for playable version 2 build
You know, a lot of you seem to be failing to realize that "no trailer @ E3" doesn't mean "Nothing at E3." They're going to do/show something. It's just not something that would be called a "trailer."
Some nice unedited footage of the new version I'd greatly prefer to a trailer about a game I'm already playing.
It kind of makes sense.
They know their stuff isn't going to get much attention at E3 right off the bat, what with Cowadoody BLOPSTOO, Guild Wars 2, Halo 4, and other games. So what's a "flood" when everyone else is flooding harder?
You can try to justify yourself with copy and paste quotes of yourself, but you can't change the way I feel because you disagree with it because of your own reasons. Until I see a better response from them, not you, I will still feel this way.
By the way, I thought you were going to go watch something because you didn't care anymore. You're still QQing it seems. The person who was like "Whatever, really." If we accepted everything they did we would still have that game that was at the launch of 14. There is also a difference between saying someone is "liers" and being lied too. You can lie to me, but I don't have to call you a liar.
Well now it just looks bad. After all that SE has been saying the past few months with "omg wait til E3 big FFXIV 2.0 Trailer!". Now anyone who was even remotely thinking about looking for that at E3, instead of thinking "oh look FFXIV has come a long way, it looks great!" They will just think, "Yep, SE at it again, couldn't even produce a trailer on time."
Yet people complain about there being no trailer, making most automatically think XIV isn't going to be at E3, even though Yoshida himself said they were going to LA for E3. If anything, those people are the truly blind ones.

I think people forget the difference between trailers and footage. Trailers advertise games. They already pointed at a marketing campaign in august. If you ask me, solidifying 2.0 information and then advertising the game is a much wiser choice for a game which at first glance people will trash.
If it were a new game then yes, I would say this would be a horrible move by SE. However, taking FFXIV's reputation into consideration, if they were to just show a trailer without much info people will ignore it. Now if there was information on how the game is changing and footage that shows the game then, plus a trailer, I think they can pull it off.
There is however one big downside to this. It's certainly true that E3 is by far the easiest place to advertise games. Without that opportunity SE will have to use it's own resources and maybe TGS to market the game by August~ September.
I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that people need to stop thinking that they are the only ones that can see the best solution to these issues. "Fix this, do that, all you have to do is do this" You don't think SE has thought about that? They are a huge company and are likely to have marketers behind them and have probably argued and debated all of these possibilities. If a handful or so of professionals found it best to postpone the trailer release, there has to be at least one good reason. It's not like they're thinking "Hey, lets piss off our players again. Don't release the trailer!"
I will give non-judgemental advice for you. I would quit while you are behind. I understand these are forums and no one likes to be right or wrong, but you need to know when to quit when no one agrees with you. I would keep my opinion to myself at that point and move on unless I plan on looking worse.
Haha, funny how I say you can't change the way I feel, which you change to opinion that is not the same, then you use "I merely just posting what I feel." which you are and aren't in a sense. You're telling me I'm wrong for feeling this way because of your (which are yours) copy and paste reasons and then you try to tell me why with another copy/paste why I should not feel the way I do because of this reason.
No, you said you were done with this thread. You didn't care and you were out of here. Seems like you can't back up your own copy paste answers. Either way, I'm done. Enjoy your meal.
Like I said like 25 pages ago, "wait and see", and I'm taking your advice, weather I'm wrong or right, the forums will be the forums, I shouldn't be batting people down with a baseball bat till they agree with me. we all have our own opinions, and I should respect that, and I'm sorry for the trouble that I caused.
Use the same trailer from before for all I care... last I checked the original trailer wasn't what was broken. I want information (data, testimony) supporting resolution of all the problems with FFXIV.
I really am disappointed by this. Really. I think they're making a huge mistake and I don't feel there's any way I can possibly defend this decision.
The fact that they decided to pair this with the only the parts of the poll that we all already knew already makes it even worse. The majority are most excited for 2.0? My mind is blown. Those really weren't the parts that any of us cared about. I can only hope my suspicion of them having already added the likely popular class/jobs is there reason for holding that back. Saving it to be paired with a reveal.
Back to Diablo 3. That'll relieve some annoyance over this.
Hmmm SE is being smart about this one. I think most people already knew about 2.0 info by SE so doesn't matter about the trailer. They wanted to do this way so we can experiences 1.23 (2.0 world change in august?) and new ps3 beta is in September for new people. They want people to experiences the 2.0 but instead just trailer since last trailer didn't looks promising. I wouldn't come back if only for trailer but instead I want to play in 2.0 and beta test it.
I'm confused why folks are so flipped out about no trailer at E3. I think advertising for 2.0 too much before it's actually released would be a mistake, so this is actually a good thing. Besides, if you read the letter from the producer, he explains that when they start advertising 2.0, they want to do a huge media blitz with tons of information, etc. not just a trailer and call it good. Honestly, this is probably the smartest decision they could have ever made.
For a game that most consider highly forgettable, what are the chances of sustaining a hype train from people who don't even play the game right now? Chances are a lot of them would just roll up and check out the current FFXIV, get super confused and peace back out. Personally, I think the best plan would be to start their media blitz around a month before the 2.0 client is released, and try to hook as many people as possible to come check it out (or sooner, if there's a an open beta of the 2.0 client, or a good chance of getting into a closed beta).
I'm not normally one to defend SE, considering the issues the game currently has, but a lot of you folks are just out of hand. Even if you don't understand or agree with it, try to have faith that SE is trying to do their absolute best to make sure 2.0 is going to be a success, and they have to be really careful since they only do have one shot at it. I think they're making the right decision. Exposing 2.0 to folks in general (and believe me, your average video game player does NOT scour video game news sites or avidly look for E3 news - they just don't) too early could damage the game more than help it.
Besides, anyone on this forum shouldn't even care. 2.0 won't come out any sooner or later based on when a trailer gets released, and you're ALREADY PLAYING THE GAME. You are not who they have to get on the hook, so it doesn't really matter if you think it's a bad plan or not.
I was (mildly) surprised by the decision, but fully support it. Keep on trucking, SE.
You might think this looks bad, but look at recent patches. When patches were delayed and without bugs, giving us a lot of content at once, people were happy. When you give them a patch on time with bugs and little content and a 1.22a 1.22b 1.22c all with little content (just to keep the 1.22 on time) people freak out and ragequit and flame on the forums.
SE is aware of this, so they know they need to pull all the stops when the time is right, all at once. You should want this too if you want the game to be successful and attract other players for 2.0 and give this game an actual population.
You'll be eating your words when you see a Lalafell summon Odin out of his felt hat in the trailer!

Didn't read most of the thread, but...
I can understand no FFXIV trailer. If all they had was some pretty pre-rendered trailer you know everyone would still be skeptical and say things like "so what? all big releases have these trailers. how is the actual game?" especially for FFXIV, people need to see the actual game first. Also, the content of the trailer might better coincide with the launch of the beta or something.
But FFXIV better be there and there better be gameplay footage to show changes. To sit out on this looks weak, stupid, and they are going back on their plans which makes them look untrustworthy and flakey.
Best case scenario would have been a slew of gameplay footage followed by a trailer IMO. It doesn't make sense to me that they would say they want an explosion of info and then sit out e3, the only possible reason I can think of is that they want more attention all to theirself.
Can't you read? The trailer is ready. They just didn't want to show another cgi half ass trailer. They want to blow us off with the real ingame engine. I agree. Plus, this isn't news. Since I saw the e3 square enix lineup, clearly missing ffxiv and versus, I didn't keep hopes of them showing up, plus, who gives a rat ass about E3? They gotta focus all the nukes at TGS. Usually, E3 gets only the usual, the second and third Square enix division, which have the likes of hitman, tomb raider, deus ex. Etc. don't expect any news from the likes of final fantasy versus, kingdom hearts , ffxiv before TGS.
- which would be the most intelligent scenario. Gamescon is another good place to present, and honestly E3 is more about the big consoles and electronic devices showing off what they got. People seem to forget this in wake of all the hype leading up to what is pretty much an inflated investor's show.
Personally, there are a lot of other things I want SE focusing on showing in E3 than simply FFXIV 2.0 right now. Versus XIII and whatever else they have coming down the pipeline should take precedence and FFXIV can wait until the company isn't both competing within itself and with every other major publisher and hardware developer out there - and this is assuming they would have a bucket load of detailed information, which they already admitted they don't have. (Probably under orders from higher up not to reveal any major spoilers for 2.0 until a closer date which I bet there would be some major ones as soon as you load into the map.)
But again, a UI, Map, and Engine overhaul is nice, but nothing to be so excited and upset over. I don't know where people are getting this idea that 2.0 is so much different from what we have, aside from our major standing complaints (Such as UI, Lag, and things like the Auction House) being resolved.
Most of the revamps the game was to go under that could be handled by the current engine is here. There's a few sections of new content coming in such as Legatus (which will be here before 2.0), PVP (bleh), Crystal Tower and a New Main Storyline to experience - but all of this could be rolled into the concept of a content patch, and not all of it is to be fully up and running by the time 2.0 is out.
I really think people need to calm down about this - lest they hype themselves into another major crash of self-inflicted disappointment.
Probably because MMO's aren't really the most exciting genre of game to watch in video form. Nobody would have been hyped about FFXI if they just showed 6 people wailing on a crab with a menu open, or hyped about FFXIV if there was a sweet montage of people crafting or gathering.
As a counter towards the opinion that websites are bashing SE left and right for this, Siliconera posted a pretty neutral stance on this whole matter. In fact, they didn't even talk about it as such as severe case - they focused more on WHAT the letter was actually about. And the comments aren't harsh at all.
http://www.siliconera.com/2012/05/28...l-fantasy-xiv/
Meanwhile, the Kotaku comments....even viewers think that website post was uncharacteristally negative and disgustingly butthurt about the whole matter.
http://pc.rpgsite.net/news/1701-fina...ler-to-skip-e3
RPGsite also expresses a similarly neutral approach to the whole matter. While yes, they expressed some form of discontent with the trailer not being at 2.0, they still provide a positive outlook on that SE is being transparent with their roadmaps and other PDFs.
http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/2012/05...g-shown-at-e3/
Somewhat a bit more negative, but understandable in that they are confused with what is being shown or not. Nonetheless, they are still going to keep up with the information, and leaving this matter behind which many of you can't seem to.
So to OP: aside from Kotaku, I can't seem to find any other website outright bashing the move. Disappointed and confused? Yes. But they are nonetheless still supportive of this whole idea.
EDIT: I should add that the searching for such sites took less than ten minutes. It's funny how a little bit of research can be used to dispel a whole array of coments such as the 'massive negativity' which apparently the whole world wide web holds for this announcement...
