2 years ago, Yoshi-p answered this here: CLICK ME.. As I mentioned in my first post in this thread, I'd be down to remove the restriction for generic looking gear, like some dungeons drops, as they are already swapped and re-coloured for other jobs. But certain types of gear should stay for the sake of tradition as this is, like it or not, a Final Fantasy game.

Ok so how bout this , then would it be ok with you guys if for instance they only allowed us to glamour a certain amount of af pieces at a time like one or two max that would be compromise to me.

Because the smallest of some of these aesthetics are not that job defining, like the ops boots, or the second post the bards pants. I would like to wear those on another class they are just pants they cant be that specific and to me what he said is just messed up about casters how are you gona let a tank wear clothe and robes , but then a caster cant wear metal thats totally wrong imo. For a male character some of the caster gear isnt very aggressive looking so if I ran a healer or caster on a male character I would def be looking to have something that was more hardcore than the current options. But like someone else said the devs have changed their minds on certain things for mass appeal reasons and I don't see why they wouldnt go back on this one , and I think a compromise would be to not allow for the glaming of a whole entire set.

If people are still tripping at that point then they would be being stubborn because when I looked at the ops example I didn't instantly know that those where summoner boots. And tbh if they didn't wana create confusion on jobs then they should have never mailed out their first chocbo head as a vet reward, being a new player I was more caught off guard by where the hec did that come from than , a paladin in a robe. The devs kinda contradict themselves on this, if we are talkin about pure image and not what it says on the tag line by all gear accessible if Im using my own two eyes then, they have failed on keeping the identity intact on their jobs so why pretend as if allowing us to change this feature would be any different.

It's hard to debate this when the last set of Artifact Armors were released in July of 2015. Usage is more popular when it is new and it was a more relevant choice for the content then actually gearing it.

And again, nobody said a mage couldn't wear an armor, most of us want more diversity, and it's totally possible without ruinning things around just for a piece or two.

Caring what you want to do to design your character means that it would be a personal thing. It isn't. I've already said this. I don't care about your AST and your AST wearing SMN gear. I care that it abolishes the traditional lore gear which is supposed to be an iconic symbol of one specific job.

Also you cannot currently dress your AST in SMN gear...so how can I care about your AST wearing SMN gear when you cannot even do it at this present time?

I never said that they will never change their minds or lift it; I am not in charge of SE or FFXIV so how would I make such a claim. I just said I am not so sure the demand is popular...which is what I still think. Considering the FFXIV team seems, so far, to want to keep the FF series connection to FFXIV intact I personally doubt they will ever lift restrictions on job specific sets...at least not until the possibility that the staff changes drastically after people retire etc.

I never said they don't care about the opinions of the player base. I asked why should they care feelings of those who don't care about the franchise. Yes, this is FFXIV. However, this game pays many homages to past FF titles, and this includes the artifact armor. But it isn't even about that. I keep bringing up these things because there is clearly a failure to understand why some of us oppose lifting the restrictions so strongly. If you want to be dismissive towards those who feel this way, don't think you won't receive the same in return.

I support this. I'm all for more customization. Though I would rather they revamp the whole glamour system, its a mess right now.

The glamour system is ok, but there is still much room for improvements. Like having more than one dyeable color or more slots for different items (for example: face slot which let you wear glasses AND a hat).

Job-specific gear should stay job-specific. But all other items should be avaiable for all classes/races.

Like I have said multiple times in this thread, Glamour in its current state already was the compromise.

The glamour system we have now already offers hundreds of choices per slot that you can choose from. We don't need to rip out one of the core aspects of the game.

I already tried to offer them that compromise, but they won't accept it. They want all the gear in the game to be their way only and don't care about the people who want to keep just a small percentage of gear locked to the jobs they represent in order to maintain FF series tradition. See, I was agreeing with you, until you started making yourself out as a victimized, abused class. Full honesty, I'm of two minds about this, on one hand I am for keeping the AF gear locked to preserve that iconic look, they are long standing appearances that have been long tied to those names (Even though really only 3 or 4 jobs HAVE their iconic appearance.) but on the other, I enjoy creativity, I enjoy creating and seeing others' creations. The glam system provides a large amount of that freedom of creativity.

So while one side is all for preserving that iconic stuff, another side is for allowing people more options to be creative, ultimately, yes I agree, keep the AF gear locked, preserve the iconic look of the jobs, but let's not try to make ourselves sound like victims. Cause that hurts the argument and it's kinda where you lose me.

Why is the term grab or taking anything away even being discussed tho nobody is asking to take a single thing nobody on this thread said we want this and lets not let anyone else have it. I think that would more so be the opposition to the ops post, the basis of what you guys have been saying is that you don't want other jobs wearing gear that doesn't belong to them for lore reasons.

Its not an argument on whether we would get something that you guys would no longer have, and thats whats just been getting me on this whole thread. If you don't want other jobs wearing other jobs gear pieces then fine but don't act like anyone here that disagrees with you is actually trying to take something from you. IF they lifted the restrictions you would still have the same traditional gear pieces that you are all up in arms about the only difference is , would be that mentally for you they would lose their uniqueness even then that is still not taking from one and giving to the other if you still had it at the end of the day in the game.

I think you are misunderstanding me, I agree with her overall message. I agree to keep the AF gear locked. I also noted that yeah, only about 3 or 4 jobs have gear that uphold their overall iconic appearance and YES, that is concerning. But I do not agree with this sense of playing the victim cause honestly, reading this thread again, I see WAAAAY more "THE LORE! PRESERVE THE LORE!" people brow beating, shouting down and outright INSULTING those who want the restrictions lifted. So when you sit there, shouting people down AND try to play the victim, you lose me.

Again, I agree, keep AF gear locked, we need more gear that upholds the job's iconic appearance (Thankfully 4.0 is FINALLY giving us something that just screams BLM.) all for that. I am not for restricting Glam more, cause again, I enjoy creativity. I'm happy with what we have, I've made some good stuff with the glam system we have. So let's just leave it as is. Why not have this as a compromise? As far as AF gear goes unlock it to be glamoured to anything as long as the person meets the level requirements on the job the AF gear belongs to and the job they are glamouring to. And only unlock the level 50 AF gear, not future AF gear. For example WHM can glamour level 50 DRG armor to themselves as long as they meet the level reqs on both jobs.

The compromise would leave people with 90% of the gear in the game open for them to glamour on any job while leaving the small 10% for the lore. Thank you for the support and understanding where I am coming from, but I never shouted down to anyone or insulted anyone so I am not sure why this is the reason I should not have posted an example to try to explain in a simpler more understanding way what is going on.

IF they lifted the restrictions on ALL gear you therefore have the gear 100% your way, so yes if that happens you did take something away from us: unique job specific locked gear no longer exists. When something no longer exists because people decided to remove it? They took it away. I think you've been arguing in this thread this whole time without understanding this....

You keep thinking that removing restrictions takes nothing away from people who are against it because you cannot understand our point of view at all or you just refuse to.

Mmm, I'm sorry if I came off harsh, I absolutely understood what you were going for but the wording was poor imo, does that take away from the overall message? No. You are correct, the gap is rather large and I do agree with you that the job armor and AF gear should be locked to their jobs. But the example given does come off as playing the victim, which isn't necessary, you could have easily made the pie example without the wording that makes it sound like OP and others are trying to forcibly take the pie piece from you like bullies.

That is my only gripe, everything else I get and understand, I just don't agree with that part of the wording. But anyways, we'd just sorta be running around in circles on this, so just understand, I agree with you and again, I'm sorry if I came off harsh.

You've been pleasant but I was making a point that the example given doesn't mesh well when you have others in this thread who are making the same point by more rude and harsh means. They are not asking for cross class glamours to be mandatory though. Just unlocking them so anyone can wear what they feel like into what they feel like as long as they meet the required level on that class. Just freedom and flexibility. You can keep your DRK as is, no one will force you to glamour anything else onto it, that is your choice.

They have leveled said class enough to earn the gear, it should be fine to make an illusion of said gear onto a different gear.

Its not that I refuse to see , its just to small of an issue for me to tell someone that they cant do something they want with gear they earned, like I mention I only like the paladin crown and more than likely even if said restriction was lifted in my case because u cant dye it, Id prob not even use a whole lot of it.

But I know people have explain the job system and everything else on here but if someone levels the job on their character who am I to say they cant wear the gear that they like. Other games have these restrictions because other games don't allow this type of job system. So to me even if you are a different job at the time you are still that job in your classes log so you are in fact all of the ones you have leveled, so therefore I don't believe there should be a lock out on any gear. Like others have said every one isn't a lore scientist and everyone hasn't followed the series sense it started so I just cant get behind bringing lore from other games into this argument just like people have dismissed my jump potion analogy (on how the devs basically blamed lore for their jump potion).

It just really doesn't make sense to be able to play every single job on one character, and not even be able to glamour the gear otherwise the only reason we can level things on one is basically for the sake of convenience with really no meaning at all. So to me sharing gear would make more sense logically from this games prospective for connecting them all together because the story doesnt do it for you nor does anything else in the game. So that's why I believe in freedom to wear any gear ( at least glam wise) on any job because of the major plot holes of not explaining how these jobs are connected in anyway other than it makes it easier for the player.

I just wanted to clearly show the huge difference between the locked and unlocked gear in the compromise. When I said what I said I didn't mean it to disrespect anyone , like I mention earlier in the thread I played 7 through 10 I don't recall such a system as the one currently that's in this one for jobs. I had stepped away from ff not on purpose just really wasn't playing any games at all, but coming to this one after playing other mmos I had never played such a job system as the one in this game.

So as mention before with the lack of explanation of how my character is diverse in all aspects of combat and what it all really means and no lore touching on this at all other than warrior of light how am I to take all lore seriously when this is overlooked from the very start of the game. I cant help bu see all the jobs as one , because while they have different forms of combat I am still doing them all on one character. If there is no lore explaining this at all in this game then how am I suppose to then , hold dear to some gear that I got on one of my job quest.

To me personally the fact that their is no reference , zero connection, and its always over looked by basically everyone then I don't see the meaning in why job specific gear is so important when no explanation for how you can do all such jobs is even given in the game anywhere. There are many many times where lore is given a back seat in the game, so if the big things are over looked and looked over with a blind eye then how can I not have a blind eye to significance of certain gear pieces. If lore is that important then it must be detailed in all the parts that matter and this game failed on explaining the job system so therefore its just impossible to see the importance of gear when we have a job system that isnt explained or tied together properly at all.

I will give you that this game does not take time to explain the job system that well, it very much relies on if you've played a FF game that had the traditional job system. But the issue here is two sets of mechanics and lore clashing against each other. The job system was built in a way that you have a character specialize in some stuff and you can totally have some jobs borrow skills from other jobs, such as if you have a Knight who was once a Black Mage, that Knight can use some Black Mage spells but not any of the BIG spells.

The issue is, this system was not built back then to factor in something like the Glam system. Cause why would they? What purpose in say FFV is there for the Knight to make himself look like a Black Mage? It just creates confusion. There is also the fact that it would strip away the visual identity of some jobs and make them feel more generic (WAR's job gear really does give it it's identity, even if the armors they choose don't really scream Warrior in a traditional sense.) That's another mess by the way, the confusion allowing job gear to be glamoured would create, is just too spooky to think about. Trolls would have a HAYDAY with that kind of freedom.

Since what we have been talking about is gear designed based on traditional FF series lore it is part of the argument whether you accept it or not. So there isn't much else to say about that. You are just doing the same thing as I explained above. You won't accept the point and then counter it to your favour you just want to remove the argument since you think it shouldn't be there. That isn't how you debate unless someone says something that has nothing to do with the topic. Which is not the case here at all.

I understand your point that the game doesn't tell people about the lore enough. I wish it did also. They just figure long time fans know the job gear tradition already and most of us do who have played the other titles. So just because the game doesn't say so doesn't mean it doesn't make sense since even if you haven't played the other games myself and others have shown you how the lore makes sense for the job locked gear many times in this thread. Ok, here we go... you don't want for example an astro being able to glamour smn gear on themselves, correct? (psssst notice the word example, it's important in this context) You, and others, want to keep the iconic gear (that only a few classes even have) and the traditions etc, correct? That's what the whole argument is about isn't it? One side wants to glamour freely using all gear there is no matter what class/job. The other side (the one you belong to) want to keep some restrictions intact as they are now, right? I wasn't making any claims but merely asking questions.

Look, no kidding around, I get it. I didn't want to argue really, I mostly wanted to understand. It's quite obvious that some of you take this really seriously and would get legit upset if these "traditions" were somehow ruined for you. There are some things I'm really passionate about too so I've experienced similar feelings over things like this but jfc you guys, chill! Some of you are behaving like Final Fantasy is some kind of religion. It's rather disturbing how angry y'all seem to get by the mere thought of a pally wearing a whm robe. Pixel clothes on a game character makes you behave like someone took a dump on your holy book.

If I say anything else I'll just contribute to this pointless back and forth so I have to nope the hell out of here.

The only thing I have left to say is, whenever someone asks for more options or freedom to customize their character they'll always have my support. Traditions are like rules to me, made to be broken. ;)

Careful! Warrior, Paladin, Dark Knight, White Mage, Black Mage, Ninja, Dragoon, Summoner, and soon to be Red Mage all take on the iconic look of FF games past. Nine jobs is hardly any to scoff at, especially when three of those make up the tanks in FFXIV, one is a healer, and several others are sought after for their raid utility and DMG output.

I wonder if they will release here a -Moogle Shop non-restricted level 50/etc- sets, like they did in China (or Korea?).
Still....it's a kinda a cheap cashgrab, since you can just press 2 buttons and make those crafted items wear'able by any class.

"You must care because example"

You tried to use yourself as an "example" to say that by your logic I must care even though I told you already I don't lol. So my answer to you was me explaining how pointless that is for you to do. Sarcasm works well sometimes.

You claim to be "asking questions" but...I already answered your question where you said that I care about how others design their characters. As for your questions in this post I can't speak for everyone here, but answering for myself I wish to keep the traditional FF series job gear intact. I care that unlocking it ruins the lore (pssst notice where I said "I care that unlocking it ruins the lore" it's important since it is not "I care about how you want to dress your character" :D )

Also I can't believe you just compared FFXIV and religion; that is extremely rude and I am not even a very religious person myself.

Why can't people accept what is logical in our reality instead of trying to force something that is not right. All this problem because glamour system was released in the game.

So I,m pretty much done with this thread as well people have stated their claims and their stand points, but I do have a question for you tho about the lore its off topic ,but not really cause I,ve mention it in the thread before but you kinda glossed over it or didn't see it.

But I'm curious of your viewpoint, so as I stated before that this game does zero pretty much absolutely nothing to explain how your character harnesses the skills to master all forms of combat in the game. IF you go from examples of other games , I've never known a ninja that could transformed into a healer or caster on the same character even if it was two different classes it just doesnt happen in other games aside from maybe eso or something of the sort. I come from swtor before this game I couldn't image my jedi knight being able to become a tactical trooper, or a smuggler it would make no sense at all, also same with guild wars 2 I only had the option to pick one class when I played it, and it would make no sense at all to be able to change into a thief or whatever class on my mage on that game. So then I land here ff a franchise I loved growing up as a child I admit I knew nothing about a job type system really, so when I started leveling different jobs on the same character I just viewed them as one thing.


What bothers me so much about this game and the reason why lore just to me is having a good story line, which this game does have a great one, is that from the very beginning why not explain in the lore how you have these amazing abilities. Why is the answer you are the warrior of light good enough for the player base , they could call you the defender of realm, and it have just as much meaning as that name, it explains nothing. It doesn't tie anything together , there is no npc reference to how are why you can just know all of this stuff and its like some hidden secret that you even do all of these jobs on your one character. Where is the lore on this where is the deep story on this, why does no one care that there isn't any when it comes to lore, is it just because you like this game play feature to not have to go back 13 times through the story to play each job is that it basically does it not need its own form of lore?


So this is why I feel the way I do , if you are going to have a specific story tying to how great some piece of gear is, and the history behind that, then where is the story on how great our character is that they have the ability to know all forms of these amazing jobs on just your single created character. People have glossed over this while acknowledging it , so if players can gloss over something that is a major part of the game, how can someone that wants the lore or reason to why my character is the way they are but not get anything at all, then care are about something that is a small part of the game such as a tenth of the gear in the game. Not trolling but you seem to be pretty informed on the game so I honestly would like your reply on this because it really bothers me, but everything else is so great that I still love the game.

Well I have been playing since 1.0 so I know quite a bit about the game, but most of your questions could only be really answered 100% by the people who made the game; not me unfortunately.

I can give you some ideas about why our character can do what they do though if it helps you out. Sorry if it isn't very helpful; you asked a mouthful xD and again this is just some interpretations. Only the dev/lore team could 100% answer what you are asking.

Our characters are blessed by Hydaelyn, the crystal of life/mother crystal. She basically uses us to dispel evil so extra power is kind of necessary. We also have the Echo which makes us immune to primal influence. In general to make a story like this the character you play usually is special in some way.

It's the typical "Hero" story. Not that the story makes us out to be perfect; we make mistakes, people die, we cannot save everyone, but we are powerful nonetheless otherwise it wouldn't make sense for us to do the things we do. I mean if you compare it to real people...you can be more than one thing. You could be a master chef while also being a master architect. Most of us would have a hard time learning so much, but it is possible. So its not like it makes no sense that you could learn to shoot a bow as a Bard and also learn to swing a sword as a Paladin.

Like Lilseph said our soul crystals kind of explain what they are. They hold the memories of people who were those jobs since eras past. So it holds knowledge about the job and abilities. If you notice when you learn an ability from a quest the knowledge is absorbed by the soul crystal in the cutscene just after....so you could argue that we the characters ourselves aren't the ones learning the abilities/spells. The soul crystal is and we equip it to harness the knowledge of that job.

There are other characters (NPCs) in the game who know knowledge of more than one job. They probably wanted the player character to be apart of the minority of stronger warriors.

There is also the fact that SE might have just wanted to have characters to be able to be all jobs because its different than the norm of other MMOs. It sticks out as something unique to the FF MMOs (FFXI and FFXIV)

Anyway I hoped I helped a little at least. Tried my best to explain reasons why some things are the way they are.

It is a bit off topic though. You could of course argue that well there is nothing that says my BLM cannot equip the WHM gear (besides the labeling on the gear), but it isn't really more of a in-game lore thing. Just more of a tradition since 1987 thing. Like its just a natural part of the FF image since many games have references to how jobs dress.
