Except that "console ID" tag doesn't show up for PC players that checks them out.

What about Steam players vs. those of us that downloaded the game directly or bought the CDs? I think Steam is holding this game back and should be separated since they have their glitchy interface to worry about.
And why we're at it, let's separate players based on if they're using controllers, standard mouse / keyboard, or gaming mouse /keyboard setups.
And how dare those Japanese players come onto our NA servers speaking their funny language in our chats, servers need to be region locked.
And I'm going back playing my PS1 emulator on my smartphone now until raid time because I could care less about graphics and capabilities as long as I'm having fun.
You can't believe everything on the internet, but you might find an interesting read.

It actually goes into a bit of detail, and compares the PS4's internals to that of the standard line of AMD hardware.
Take that for what it's worth, and make your own decision of whether or not the PS4 will be holding PCs back in the near future. I know there are still millions of players playing on dinosaurs (probably with CRT monitors, as well), so again, take that with a grain of salt.
It's not a surprise to anyone that if you're capable, and have the desire to build (or buy) a custom gaming PC, you're going to always be several steps ahead of anything that is specifically built and marketed to a massive audience while holding a reasonable price tag.

No way PS4 is holding anything back, it must be an opinion.Quote:
1.6ghz amd cpu
gpu that's supposed to be as -good- as amd 7870
Silky smooth unstable 20-40 fps.
Not saying PS4 support should be dropped, but don't be delusional.
Im more curious as to what is actually being held back, what would be improved when they do drop ps3? Is it just a graphic/performance thing? Cause it feels like that's just more of a preference if anything, now if there was some kind of game play improvements and content overall then Great! But I dunno, would SE actually change there way once they do drop ps3 or will they just continue doing the normal routine...
The possibilities are pretty endless once they drop an inferior machine from their list of limitations. Basically, we can move into things like real tessellation (that thing that makes objects look less like flat textures). We can utilize processes that require a bit more computational power (watch out, dinosaurs!) and we can make way for things that require more storage space. Not just physical storage (such as the required hard disc space) but also things that require more RAM. Things such as larger, open world maps with larger draw distances that eliminate that whole instance of seeings like a forest or fortress appearing in front of you from out of nowhere. They did this back in 1.0, so there's no reason it can't be done again. They're not things that are truly game breaking, but they simply make the game more enjoyable to play because you ultimately have less breaks in between doing what you want to do. Nobody likes loading screens. Nobody has ever liked them. We should always be asking for games to push the limits of our machines, otherwise we really have no reason to have left the NES behind.
Playing XIV on PS3 was one of the most painful things I did in 2.0. Graphics and controller mean little to me. Its the load times that killed it for me. The PS4 has full kb/m support for XIV anyway; as meaningless of an arguement that topic is. This has never ran well on PS3, but this is a business and until the bottomline is affected S-E will not care. As for PS3 holding players back, my former static's OT was better than tanks I know with PCs meatier than mine. And my rig is pretty dang meaty.
You're talking about the fact that PCs 5 years ago were struggling to run it. That's kind of the point though. Consoles are built with technology and hardware that is at least a year and a half old before the system even reaches the store shelves. I played 1.0 on an old Asus Republic of Gamers laptop with a 260M. It ran fine. I've already mentioned that there are still probably millions of people playing on ancient computers and of course games have to be designed with that in mind. However, limiting a game based on the requirements of a system that is already "old" by technology standards is exactly what the issue is at hand, and why people feel like "consoles are holding us back" with regards to the potential processes a game uses to deliver us its content.
There are plenty of games on the market today that are built with as "cutting-edge" technology as possible, and PC gamers (not the ones who simply play a given game on a PC) will often build their machines with the intent of having it powerful enough to run any given high-performance game on their rig, and to also be "future-proof" with that is expected to be released for the coming years. There's a difference between having something like the PS4, for example, saying it supports 4K resolutions (being capable of drawing the picture with reasonable refresh rate) and having a machine that is actually built specifically with the intent of 4K gaming to where it's optimized for just that.
We're getting a bit off the topic of the original post here, but it's not hard to tell that the debate of Console VS PC is related to not just what a particular machine is capable of doing right now, but what it'll be capable of supporting in the future compared to another machine.
Where did I ever say it was unsynced Coil?
Do not put words into my mouth. Period.
Up to you to believe if my experiences are true or not. I honestly have no reason to lie about them.
If they seem far-fetched then I'm sorry. But I can't (and won't) record every encounter I have that turns sour.
I can go into painful detail on each experience if it would please you. But the tl:dr is...
Coil wise the group wanted voice chat for coordination and they didn't want more than 3 wipes.
LOA honestly I don't know why they wanted us to Voice chat. I hear the 24 man's are just a big zerg...
But whatever.
However this is getting off topic. But if you want to accuse me of trying to get on topic to run away from your accusations then I'll gladly argue with you further.
your friends fc mates were going to take him thru coil synced then? sure .
edit again- just in case you try to change the story, they wanted the bonus tomes.
edit- looking again, the group wouldnt even need your friend to do anything.
please notice that separating the player base is a bad idea.
Yeah and I'm gonna be perfectly clear and take the kid gloves off here and say MS needs to get their head out of their posterior. I have an Xbox One (can't justify a PlayStation 4 when I already have X1 and Wii U, I got the Wii U because well Nintendo games feel unique and I love Mariokart and Smash, and I got the Xbox One as I'm training to become a universal Windows developer), and I can't play FFXIV on it. Which I think is baloney. I love playing FFXIV. But my only option is PC and I keep falling back into keyboard and mouse gameplay, whereas on my Xbox One I'd be forced into controller play (and yes, on PC I always fall back to KB/M out of comfort and muscle memory)
don't start me on the V1, Yoshida already spend countless hours to explain how it did happend. multiple language of programation, bad choice for the graphical engine.... it was a mess, that not without reason they had to rebuild the game from the ground.
and i will not bet on the 4.0 on the ps3... Yoshida have often said it... he can only promise to bring the first expansion for the ps3 after this, he refuse to hold back the game for a machine that old.
ok this talk is just silly if you cancel the ancient ps3 then i say shut game down a year and redesign the whole game engine to maximize the actual maximun potential of ps4/pc.
Its already happend once btw for this game to work with ps3 and all.....
When 1.0 shipped it had very steep hardware requirements. The recommended specs were an Intel Core i7 @ 2.66 GHz (or better) and an GTX 460 w/ 768MB RAM, which would get you at least 30 fps @ 1280x720. The GTX 400 series had been launched just months before the game's launch. It wasn't poorly optimized. Rather it was intended to be run on very high end desktop machines less than a year old when it first came out. Perhaps they saw posts with wild hardware requirements and thought that pretty graphics would blind us.
The 1.0 developer's philosophy behind FFXIV was that any problem can be solved thru updates and patches. Something they learned over the time as they worked on FFXI. Unfortunately they ignored the changes made to the genre over they eight years since the launch of FFXI in 2002. It had evolved subsequently since then. The development team did not. Except when it came to graphics of course.
I just want my outdoor hot tub.
While I admit it would be nice to see lesser hardware removed, I still have some doubts deep down that any major changes are going to come of it. Hopefully I get proven wrong but how I feel at the moment.
Actually the Trophy need you to have synced clears of T1-T5. Unless they patched that. I tried T5 unsynced and my trophy didn't pop until I did a synced clear.
(Cost me all my [expletive] gil too. 10mil)
And yes they wanted the bonus. Hence why I was so baffled. I guess the bonus wasn't worth the stress of taking a newbie through it.
It's his FC not mine. I avoid FCs like the black death.
You believe it is a bad idea. Your opinion is noted.
I assume you want to trade blows until I say: "I am wrong and you are right." am I correct in that assumption?
It will not happen. I stand by my opinion.
I'd say its a mix of PS3 and dev team. If the PS3 went...then the dev team would need some changes to meet the new glass ceiling of content. Aside from a small handfull of boss fights...things are pretty mediocre. Hear every so often about what Yoshida wants in the game but can't due to dev team situation.
part of why this idea is bad has to do with the servers themselves. its not likely, but say in my server cluster there was only 1000 ps3/4 players. you have now made it nigh impossible to play the game at the most basic level.the only way this idea would have worked is if it was that way from the start.
you keep saying that you know doing this would make queue times longer, and make it harder to do content, both things that should throw up flags that its not something that should be done. i have no idea how you think something like that is a good idea so "console players can just play the game". of the console players i have run into, maybe 4 have been kicked from a party i have been in, not because they were on console, but because they as a player were bad.
also, the trophy doesnt require you to be synced, and only requires T5 to be beaten.
My PS4 runs the game far better than my own laptop. It gives me a chance to play an MMO I like without having to spend 1k on a gaming desktop or laptop. Im grateful for the fact i can have a full MMO experience on a console. Quit whining about "prettier graphics" and appreciate the game.
Same. My full blooded i7 with with what was supposedly a decent mobile gpu barely runs the game at 720 resolution as well as my PS3 did. PS4 on the other hand is freaking awesome in full 1080p. Kind of wish their game engine could make better use of the i7 when the GPU is weak...oh well...PS4 for the win.
Meh dont see the point of this thread tbh.... I play on ps4 and well i got no intention in playing on pc and i used to play on pc for other games
But in all serious who cares?
This is the thing i dont like about people is that they want everythink to look graphically better... And still complain after that...
Not everyone have a super PC, and tbh... Ever thought that PC maybe holding the game back? ... I could get everyone PC together on this forum... And they will all be different from each other... Which is more pain to develop for
Which with consoles... They are all the same ps4 to anothet ps4 for example which is easyier to iron and fix things on
So i blame everything on PC players tbh always want more and is never content or happy unless they complain
Sigh
Why are people talking about graphics and character models? There is so much game play stuff not possible because of ps3 limitations, I believe I read somewhere that sky and airship battles weren't possible because ps3 can't handle it. And something something fighting bismark in a mount with a cannon.
Edit, found it:
"For example, if we were to have a large-scale FATE where players can ride on a flying mount and freely fly around and swoop down at a dragon that is 200 meters long, players would probably be impressed and entertained. However, it would also require us to raise the minimum requirement when it comes to hardware specs." - Yoshi P
A little different to what I said, but both examples are things that would be amazing but can't be done on Ps3 hardware
This is an excuse. You know... something a person says to avoid blame? The game already has a huge dragoon 200 meters in size that you do battle with. His name is Vishap and you find him in "The Steps of Faith."
I've learned one thing, the devs are masters at coming up w/ excuses. Albeit silly ones.
@Kaze3434
I read that it no longer requires sync. Some say it was a bug, others say it got hotfixed.
At the time I did it. I can even get ppl to voucher for me.
My trophy did not pop when we unsync'd ran T5.
Bad luck of the draw there for me.
I realize my opinion is unpopular to some.
But here is the issue...
If consoles are holding this game back, thus hindering and harming your gaming experience then don't fight to keep them.
It's obvious that the game can evolve more PC wise as PCs can upgrade. Consoles cannot.
If you want cross-play then people need to stop pointing fingers at consoles, and stop blaming them for everything.
"I want to play with consoles. But they are holding my game back."
So how do you stop them from holding the game back?
You'd have to split the 2 up. So console limitations only effect consoles.
"No! If you split them then ____."
So what is the solution then?
As long they are linked. Consoles will eventually hold the game back, despite bad coding/threading, bad servers, and etc.
If they give the pc exclusive features and keep it linked. It will only enrage console players and possible create an unfair field.
Parsers (while illegal) are a prime example of this.
If you split them and cater to each platforms strengths then...this is remedied...somewhat.
A sacrifice is going need to be made either way.
Remove limitations by cutting consoles.
Keep cross platform but live with the fact that more and more limitations will come in time.
Console gamers for this game are still profits for Square, so unless they got a REALLY good reason to disallow PS3 players from logging in ever again, no dice. Money talks.
