When did SE ever outright say that everything they've shown us would a) be a part of the basic wedding system rather than a bonus and b) would cost neither gil nor real money? For all we knew, the mount could have been an extra that would cost 5 million gil. All they ever did was show us pictures and tell us that the Eternal Bond system was coming, without any specific details beyond that.

Where on the original packaging or in the advertising of either the game or the game system itself did it say that "additional charges may apply"

Subscription costs were mentioned, such disclaimer is nearly required by law.

Additional charges may apply only if you make a deliberate decision to purchase things. You aren't going to be hit with sudden unexpected charges. You don't have to pay a cent beyond the subscription cost if you don't want to.

Still should have been disclosed, Apple added the "in-app purchases" field in their App Store due to some legal trouble iirc.

That doesn't change anything. The point is that SE told us absolutely nothing about how the system was actually going to be implemented in-game, so getting upset and claiming that they "changed" things or "watered them down" or anything like that is patently false because they never made any claims about how things were going to work in the first place.

As long as they don't start putting BiS weapons or gear in there or selling items that allow you to increase your level (like WoW does) or otherwise give you advantages over other players, I honestly couldn't care less. The amount of hyperbolic "what ifs" in these threads has gone far beyond the point of ridiculousness.

This marriage thing in the game is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. What is the purpose of it? Does it give me extras? What is the point of it? I find the whole thing awkward and pointless. I didnt get a fighting adventure game to be going around getting married. As well as I don't see the use of buying a house apart from a waste of cash. I'm here to raid do dungeons kill mobs confront heavy bosses get weapons.

This add on is a complete waste of time and I still cannot get my head round as to why people find it fascinating.

I know this is an option (hopeless one I must highlight) that I won't be using as it brings NOTHING productive to the game.

The point of it is that, if you play this game regularly with a significant other or best friend (etc.), you might like to do something to bond the characters together. If you go through the eternal bond, you'll have the ability to instantly teleport to wherever that significant other is whenever you want, plus you'll have the opportunity to experience a special in-game event/quest together that results in a special ceremony. In the future, it may also provided additional functionality related to player housing (though that isn't there at launch).


I know a lot of couples who play this game and who will really appreciate this system. But obviously it's not for everyone; in fact, it's probably not even for most players. The fact that it's sort of a "niche" feature may be why they included optional plans, since they spent a lot of time/money developing a system that likely only a fraction of the players will use directly. For those to whom it matters as a symbolic gesture, it may be worth it for them.

Oh but they did say they may charge for additional stuff. Right in the ToS it says they may at time provide services call "Add-ons" or "optionals" for a recurring fee (Retainers) or one time fees (Cash shop). Since we all agreed to it (we wouldn't be able to play if we didn't) we acknowledge such things may happened. And it did and yet people are still surprised and outraged.

Hence why I said nearly, as that was edited in after launch in one of the many tos updates

I want to do eternal bound just for clothes and mount... a bit bummed about being charged... will see how much it costs...

i will have prefer to have a long quest series asking to do stuff with the other you want to bond... this look soo lazy and greedy that why i was upset at the start. after i have seen how it can lead to something worst and did get really really angry.

but something bother me, it's like they announce stuff for age and when they arrive they are lack luster a bit like the personal housing... that was only allowing player to buy FC house.

ToS was last updated on August 24th of last year. The game didn't launch until the 27th. Unless you meant beta which wouldn't matter since beta was just that.

It's a book written by George Orwell, in regards to the Russian revolution. So yes it was written about communism, but that doesn't mean its point cant be used for current issues.
SE or any current company/government only cares about the money they make or their own bottom line. None of them care about us as individuals and they wont change their practices as long as it keeps getting them what they want. Just more people have to wake up and notice what is actually going on around them. The only person who is going to look out for you is you.

I have to ask you, how exactly do you know every single cent was used this way? You can't possibly know that unless you are in their accounting department. For all you know, this may have come form initial Fantasia sales. Or It's being financed from other income into the company. They do produce more than FFXIV... much... much more. The money that moves around is probably staggering if you could look at their quarterly income reports.

As for the "best of it" that depends on what you consider best. Highly subjective. Frankly, I think the paid men's tux is terrible.. So few differences it doesn't warrant the money. As for the 2 person mount. This is the only place I have an exception because there isn't another one in the game that doesn't require real money in some way.

First off, I am actually married to this person in real life. I already had my 'fancy' ceremony. All I actually want is for that to be somehow represented in game. Seriously, I don't want all the pretend in game crap. I want to be able to in-game show that we are 'bonded'. I could give to craps about the pretend ceremony. (Which is WHY the 'Standard' would be fine). I just want my real life relationship represented in game...I don't want to 'Roleplay'...I don't even actually like the roleplay aspect..I'm glad it's there for others...but it isn't my main interest/reason for wanted to be 'bonded'

But really, the WHY I want to do it shouldn't matter. Who cares if 2 people get hitched because they want the items? ...or because they are best friends in RL....or married...or anything really. My reasons for wanting it are my reasons. And if I want the 'justice of the peace' experience, that's not of your concern. ....after all, you can 'roleplay' the perfect princess wedding if you want, who's to say I can't 'roleplay' the opposite :P

For some people, it's ONLY about the actual bond, not the ceremony, not the fluff, not who attends, just the joining of two people.

Also I said 'they should be able to get married whenever they wish' this does not necessarily mean right away. It means that, since they are paying more for the service, they shouldn't necessarily have to be 'assigned' a day/time...or wait eons for it. Maybe someone wants to pay just so they can have their RL Anniversary date...that is 6 months away...maybe someone else just wants to have a quick ceremony because the 'roleplay' doesn't matter but the bond between them being official in game does.

Still my bigger point from the post you quoted was this: Is the ONLY difference between the 2 tiers of bonding plans the 'additional fluff' or is there/will there be more?

Like does buying in = a potentially shorter wait
or
=extra perks later on etc

Or is it ONLY the mount/minion/outfits....and will both types of 'bonds' get the same perks and respect in game if/when additional perks for being bonded ever happen.


Because, it would suck to opt for the Standard because you either don't believe in paying extra for a game you already pay monthly subs for/don't want/need the extra fluff...but then down the road be locked out of ALL the potential perks of bonding. (like in my case, having a fancy pretend dress for my Femme Roe is lame....but being able to share NPC's/garden together in my personal house would be lovely).

Also, if 'Gold' plan people get unspoken perks, (like quicker access to ceremonies), then that would also make it unfair to 'Standard' folk....because it would mean, they basically have to wait for all the Gold Plan ppl to get their ceremonies in and planned to even have a chance for a ceremony slot/time. Basically 'punishing' anyone who opts out of the 'Gold' tier by forcing longer waits...but then again, people who pay shouldn't pay for something...then wait 6 months+ to be able to actually get it...this could mean there's potentially people who pay extra RL cash for a wedding and then never get the wedding because they stop playing the game for some reason. Do they get refunded (likely not)? So while I don't think it'll be fair if 'Gold people' get priority...if that priority affects Standard plan folks access to the ceremony, I also think there needs to be a hard and fast, 'if you pay extra, you are entitled to a ceremony slot within x amount of time and/or to plan it for your desired slot'...because these things likely aren't going to be 'cheap'

So yes, I skipped over the debate over 'is it fair that we have to pay extra for the shinies' and went straight for the practical...'okay, but what does my choice in plan actually mean, today, tomorrow and 2+ years from now'...you know, the actual nitty-gritty of what a marriage is vs. the pretty wedding day...and how will it all play out in-game down the road as none of this has been hard and fast explained and/or answered....and likely won't be until it's too late. (IE people selected their ceremony type/are bonded but due to their ceremony choice may or may not have access to all the additional planned/potentially planned content)

Just speak with your wallets and don't buy it....nothing says boycott better than not throwing money at SE. But we all know that's not going to happen right? I've yet to see the cash shop taken down after "everyone" stormed to the forums in effigy over it.

Blame is on both parties, just as it is with RMT or drugs. If people weren't ready to buy gold, gold spam and botting wouldn't be a problem - but the fact that there are people who would buy gold doesn't mean it's okay for others to start botting and selling it to them. Using drugs isn't fine, but neither is selling them. One couldn't exist without the other.

Hi. I have suffered many P2W (Pay to win) games during my life and had enough of those, that's why I'm in FFXIV... And I have to say... Uhm... Do you really consider this a P2W? I don't. I consider it a risky approach to it if they become greedy, but.... The whole thing itself is not...

Just a marriage system, and the only, the only thing those who pay obtain are... Vanity stuff?... I don't care, If I want the utility such as teleport or other things I don't have to pay for it, isn't it? Then it's not P2W, it has just some vanity stuff locked like it would have in many games.

Problem would be if SE decides to (I doubt it, I want to not think about it) cross the line with what they sell in the cash shop...

No, it's not the same as buying additional character slots because you can't mail between them and you don't really get an extra playable character to level, yes people did use them as extra storage anyway and were practically forced to, but no, still not the same.

If they didn't have retainers and you could buy additional character slots with the ability to main between would you buy additional characters for storage or extra retainer ventures?

I wasn't speaking about retainers, but, there, dear lady, you're right.... I also didn't like the movement they did with the retainers since it was a really P2W movement in my opinion.... But right then a lot of protectors came saying "It was promised in 1.0" / "They have more costs of storage in server with this" etc... However, having extra retainers is a must, I can't just stay with two myself and I see it very difficult with all the quantity of items you usually need to store.

If it was handled the exact same way FFXI handled it in its early days I'm sure a lot of people would do it or at least consider it. Personally I've never really bought any extras in any MMO ever, well aside from one TF2 key to get Gaben glasses, and that's my only regret. Nowadays FFXI has plenty of free storage space everywhere, so even they eased up on that and they did it entirely for free. Aside from the satchel attached to the authenticator which is really just a physical item with an in game bonus, just like extra minions from books and soundtracks and what not.

There being a free package and a paid package does leave me a little trepidatious, however I am holding off on final judgment until all the details are explicitly laid out.

If the difference in the paid version is solely vanity clothing, a wedding themed tandem chocobo mount and a minion, then it won't be as big a deal to me as it is the same type of stuff that is already being sold just packaged together in a themed set.

If it actually changes the ceremony (location, set dressing of the ceremony, npc's involved, etc.), that may be going too far.

Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Not only this, but another thing I don't think everyone knows is:

For that extra 2 dollars a month a player can pay for each retainer, they get an additional retainer on ALL of their characters; across all worlds. So technically, people with lets say a 'Legacy' account potentially get far better value for their $2/month expense than people with Standard accounts (or is it called Entry when you have only 1 character?) But since a Legacy player can have up to 40 characters, and up to 8 one each world, that's a LOT of potential retainer access for one person to have...especially when you factor in that others paying the SAME price a month only have access to 1 additional retainer in so much as they only have access to 1 character.

I haven't purchased anything else for my account via MogStation, but I am assuming that things like minions/mounts work the same way. So for $24 dollars, I have potential access to 40 Odin mounts...my husband, 1.



Basically, not wanting to open this can of worms, but even my 'Legacy' account status could be considered a weird off-shoot of P2W when you factor in it basically makes it so my buying power is potentially larger than others.

Agree, I actually don't care if they ONLY are charging more for the additional items....but if it effects anything else ceremony/wait times/potential 'bonding' perks that may or may not be added down the road, I'd at least like to KNOW that first....and really think it'd be a dick move on the part of SE if the 'Gold' package offered any additional unspoken perks.

So like you, basically waiting for more clarity and/or assurance that the ONLY difference is the current items listed, mount+minion+clothing options.

I'm sorry, but this makes no sense to me. Why does someone else's reason for doing something affect me in any way? This reminds me of some of the people in the US who are against marriage equality. "Them getting married ruins my marriage!" What? How? I really don't understand.

The fact is, when they ran the Refer a Friend campaign, the insisted that it was okay to lock out the only 2-seater Mount (exclusive functionality) behind a cash wall (friend's subscription) because they said the eternal bond system is coming where everyone can get a 2-seater Mount. Now they're saying that they've also put THAT behind a cash-wall.

So much for actually trusting something said by SE's developers or community managers! First the personal housing fiasco where they told us it would be completely separate from FC housing and far more affordable, then they released it and it was the same exact thing. Now, they promise us real-money-free 2-seater Mounts, and now that they're closer to release, hey look! They cost real-money.

Here's some predictions of other things that they've likely also lied about or misled us about:

• The Gold Saucer will likely require you to spend real-money to buy in-game chips to bet.
• Raising multiple chocobos to race (like they've been hyping for months) will likely require you to pay a $2 subscription fee for each one after the first like with retainers.
• In order to build/fly airships like they've been talking about for months, your FC will first have to purchase a crafting basement addition to the FC house using real-money.
• To preform the final upgrade to your Relic Weapon to change its appearance to the legendary form that they've been talking about for a while (purely a cosmetic upgrade, stats the same as the previous tier), you'll likely have to pay real-money because it's "just a vanity thing."
• MSK, which they've been talking about for a long time and keep teasing in the game, will likely be a class/job that costs real-money to unlock.
• To play Triple Triad (something they've also been teasing for months), you can use a starter deck for free. But, to get better cards, you have to pay real-money for booster packs. Since you don't get anything for the main FFXIV game from playing Triple Triad, it's not "game breaking" to have a pay-to-win minigame, right?

I'll keep playing this game because I'm enjoying it, but I really loathe SE as a company at this point. I'm already invested in this game, but the next MMO that they do? I won't be going anywhere near that. Sadly, I'll probably never see the refer-a-friend Mount because when a friend asks me if FFXIV is any good, ever since the personal housing mess I've been telling them it's terrible and they should avoid it.

I don't want to say I told you all so, but I told you all so. This is what happens when you overwhelmingly support a filthy cash shop in a pay to play game. You all were so supportive of dear Yoshi P and so trusting. Here's that just vanity stuff he mentioned. You want it? You pay for it. Your subscription means zilch. Glad I ditched when the cash shop was released. Have fun riding that slope folks.

As much as I feel they mean "real money". They didn't say "real", they only said money. There is hope money means gil :P.

I'm fine with the free/premium options. I consider my subscription as the right to access their server and play the game, nothing more. If I want extra goodies beside that, they have every right under the sun to charge for them. If I want it, I'll buy it, if it doesn't interest me, I'll pass. (go ahead and look at my lodestone, see how I have zero cash shop things.)

If this "gated content" ever amounts to anything besides vanity/minions/mounts I would agree. But as long as they aren't charging extra to access endgame raids, dungeons, or combat/crafting gear then I'm 100% okay with it.
