A big reason people are getting slaughtered now is because, up til this point, t2 has been doable in low level gear. As long as your dps knows how to press 1,2,3 and your healers can spam 1 then t2 enrage is doable in lvl 55 gear. Now that people are actually taking decent damage from ADS their healers can't keep up because they don't heal for enough, or their party doesn't have the hp to survive two of ADS's pulses. Mix in that a lot of healers are so comfortable with just spamming medica that they don't feel the need to use cds because up til now they weren't needed. I could go over strategy, telling people how to do the new enraged, but I find it so much more enjoyable to watch them die once and spend the next few hours crying on the forums.

Don't know if you realize it or not, but a big part of the reason passing rot with pugs is so difficult is because so very few pugs have ever even seen the rot phase. Most of them do enrage because a toddler could pull it off.

I just like the argument that the enrage mode "cheapens the encounter" when what they really mean to say is "cheapens my own feeling of accomplishment in a meaningless video game." My other favorite argument is "the way it's meant to be played" which has been echoed countless times in other multiplayer games. It's hilarious and maybe a bit sad the lengths people will go to to bolster their own self worth in something so utterly meaningless as a video game.

Do you think you are "leet" because you have gear? You keep throwing up T4 as some sort of pinnacle (it's not). I've been doing this coil crap for months now. Back in early Oct, I got Pld pants in my first T2 kill (the "right" way if it matters). Since then, I've gotten the ugly ass shield (which most of my static has now), and ZERO accessories. I've seen the neck piece drop, but have been out lotted twice. Sure my bard has bling falling out for it all over the place, but for Pld? My main? NADA!!

In this game you aren't "leet" if you have gear, you are lucky. Get off your high horse.

Sadly, I shall have to put away my #popcorn. :(

You realize this link, or similar, has been posted a dozen times already in the forums and yet people still cry about it. Not that I'm complaining, since watching them cry gives me something to do while waiting on the maintenance to finish, but most of these people are here to cry, not to read so I doubt you posting the link will change anything, lol. Don't worry kids, your t2 enrage method will be up and running again shortly, then you can go back to speeding through t2 for your free loot. It's like watching a bunch of kindergardeners, offer them candy and they're so happy, but then you tell them they have to earn the candy and it's like someone set off the sprinklers, tears everywhere.

I actually enjoy the mechanic that the development team took the time to create and find it interesting. Enraged method takes too long.

Crying about wanting something that you already have would be plain stupid and simply prove that you're not old enough to play this game. My static are going to continue doing the enrage method to clear Turn 2 because we can. So are many, many others. My gear has been obtained the cheap way and my static took the easy route to Turn 4. according notes for the emergency maintenance earlier it seems they fixed turn 2 so I don't know if that applies to the enrage or not.

It must. As others have said this is more of a version roll back than a patch. Anything done to the AI in coil was probably reverted to what it was in 2.15

All I have to say on the subject is that there was over reacting from both sides of the aisle. 'Tears', 'butthurt', I mean really? I've done both ways and really it all comes down to the company you keep and availability. And turn 2 is really the only instance that gets this royal treatment. I don't see people shitting the bed over jumping on trees in AK before it was patched, or the way people apparently do Chimera to avoid having to silence anything. Even in the temple of Qarn people have found ways to avoid the doom mechanic, but its always about Turn 2.
Which means its probably about the gear, and the fact that Coil is still considered the xenith of endgame. I really hope this roller coaster ends in 2.2 or I'm going to lose my goddamn mind.

I don't think anyone here has claimed they define their worth as a person or in anything outside of the game by something they've done in the game. But things people achieve in games have value and meaning within the context of the game and in some cases it can even somehow extend to their lives outside of it. Personally, I don't usually spend my time on things that aren't important to me in some way. I care about my marriage, my family, my friends, my career, my sports, my games and my other hobbies. I don't define my self worth based on any of those things alone but they're all part of who I am. And I have been asked of my gaming experience in job interviews when I was looking for work.

You too care at least enough to spend your time reading these posts and replying. But I don't think that means you're defining yourself based on that. :) We're here to discuss the game we play and its features, not bring up things that matter to us the most in our lives.

It was something I applied for when I was finishing my master's studies, a project coordinator for a government youth work project. Didn't get the job but was one of last two applicants and they contacted me later offering a different position (which I didn't take because I had other projects). :)

For me at least, It's not an elitist or trying to be superior. To me you are crippling yourself, so instead of learning how to deal with a mechanic, you completely avoid it. T4 isn't the pinnacle: T5 is. I just figure most people who cannot bother to communicate in T2 won't be doing T4 anytime soon. But hey: that's great that you can pass T4 even after employing that method in T2. How's the T5 coming along? Doesn't appear you've cleared it nor do you seem to belong to an FC that clears it.

No one said you are elite if you get gear. My BLM, who has been doing coil since September, hasn't seen pants or an Allagan weapon since September (T4) and November (T5). I just found it funny that I could make an alt and blow through all of it faster than most can do it on their mains with the advantage of mythology gear.

By the way: my first Titan win was, indeed, with 2 tanks. :) A WAR and a PLD.

Probability is not quite that hard to understand nor is causation. I'm sorry if you think T2 enrage requires good communication between members: I truly am. I don't think you'd know the difference if you hadn't done both strategies, though.

Guess we'll take the lack of a T5 clear to contradict your point and confirm that communication is a good thing to encourage.

I have no notable loot besides a SCH book and BRD belt so you're welcome to keep yours. You can apologize to me if/when SE decides to continue to design content in this manner. Luckily, things like T5 and Titan Ex tell me that this probably wont be the case.

I did have the chance to try T2 enrage method on my MNK when it first hit 50. Was kind of funny watching them wipe, listening to the rage on TS. We finally won after our 3rd attempt and all I could think after was, "Wow, that was really boring compared to how I learned it." It was a super grueling experience learning it back in September but ooohhhh so rewarding when we finally got it down. That feeling...I wish everyone could experience it.

It just amazes me how people can be satisfied with taking the challenge out of an encounter when so few challenges exist in this game to begin with. Why do you do it, exactly? I can understand the necessity to use it when you are forced to PUG coil...but other than that, as a gamer, shouldn't you seek challenge and overcome it?

It's honestly disturbing to see that some of you think those of us who clear 1-5 weekly really care how you do it. Is T2 gear really that desirable?

How you do it is irrelevant. Why you do it is a much more interesting topic.

Whao seriously.... i thought 20++ pages ppl would have gotten the idea that enrage mode or normal modes are both acceptable...

Still there are arguments that doing xyz is the correct way or GTFO, clear xyz content then come talk.

I sure didn't. But guess what... wait for it... I learned the mechanics!!! OMGOSH!!! The correlation between the 2 is if you cant do a simple mechanic as passing rot, than there isn't any hope for you to get through conflags, divebombs, twisters, dreadknights either. Enrage requires communication?? Really now... in what way? Please enlighten me to it because running in at 1 click and then dogpiling and chain ae healing and dpsing requires 0 skill and 0 communication.

T2 It is a gateway quite honestly, because at first when you are learning it, it IS a hard mechanic. If it wasn't then guess what...... people would do it the normal way because it IS faster, whether by 5 minutes or not, it is.

TO deny the fact that T2 wasn't a gateway is just silly, otherwise so many other people wouldn't have been stuck on it. T2 is a great place to learn how to communicate because there is so much going on at once (at least for some people it can be quite overwhelming).

Like I've said in my other posts, want to do enrage to avoid mechanics? go for it... you are only gimping yourself in future content.

Why would you step into coil if not to test your mettle? That's what's so perplexing about this case. In turn 5, you're presented with a problem though...one you've been avoiding all this time. You now need to sit down and formulate strategies/wipe for hours on end till you actually learn it.

It's also much worse when you think about it from a person's perspective when PUGing coil. Would you want the bar to be set at the hardest content when people have to absolutely start communicating or on an easier fight earlier on? I'd rather people get a wake up call earlier on. That way, overall PUG groups are more prepared to handle things later on.

Anyways, those are just my thoughts and why it is such an interesting issue in my mind. If you could take the time out of your busy day of not caring, would you mind enlightening me? :)

I'm so glad you brought this memory back to me. You see, back in early (Jan/Feb) 2004 when nuking !@#$ with 14-16 BLMs wasn't a thing, I attempted DM with my sky LS. It took us a while to learn it but was so incredibly fun because of all the neat mechanics that had been designed into the fight and all the coordination that was required to pull off a successful run.

When I started nuking it with my BLM LS when we sold runs, I never got the appeal.

People will always take the easier route but the easier route isn't necessarily the most rewarding.

I understand that people want to speed things up and not waste time yet people defending this strategy generally don't use those arguments when asked why they do it. Most of them have a hard time admitting that this strategy is easier, actually. :X You know, like this:

Typically in games when a boss enrages it makes the fight harder not easier. I think the T2 enrage wasn't designed for people to wait 5-6 extra min just so they can fight the boss while under enrage. Something should be fixed. It was an oversight when they made the boss that people would actually do this.

If its going to be a soft enrage ADS should still should do all its mechanics even while enraged on top of the pulse damage. There is a soft enrage on T4 as well if you take too long, however if you get to the soft T4 enrage it is pulse damage the enemies you still have left up do all their normal mechanics and moves still.

If its going to be a hard enrage it should just blow up and kill everyone with 99999 damage.

I want people to do enrage with darklight and other gear that people had back when it was first done because honestly I think it's just our gear is better which allows us to survive. Prove me wrong and my opinion will change.

What i don't get is why they did not think about this and have a simple mechanic: each wave does 5% more damage than the next. I thought it to be assumed that a soft enrage is something that is ramping up to an inevitable death -- Basically, for me, it is something that is supposed to be manageable right away, and basically giving a warning : "time to finish this now, chop chop !" And increasingly it becomes harder. Compared to a hard enrage, which is just a "you fail, game over" screen. I quite like this idea of a soft enrage. However, if the soft enrage not only is not ramping up, is manageable for several minutes, AND remove all other abilities, i question the definition of what the dev are calling an "enrage". This is beside the point of wether people should be able to go through it more easily btw. Just, from a game design perspective : What the hell ?

It takes more skill to do t2 normally in Darklight than to over ilvl it and face a boss that uses no abilities.

Hm in order to understand why I care, you would need to have read the past few pages. I'll be uncondescending, though, and summarize for you:

●I would like people to experience that gratifying feeling after successfully overcoming a tough challenge
●I do not want developers to get the wrong idea, thinking this is how we want fights designed...though I do think encouraging multiple ways to do a fight is the way to go

Since I do not do turn 2 outside of my two statics, I am not able to do anything but leave others alone. Even when my MNK first hit 50, I didn't mind when the PUG group I joined wanted to use the enrage strategy. After watching them in turn 1, I wasn't confident they would be able to do the other two strategies so I was OK with them using one that they knew.

I would really like to DF this come 2.2 but don't think it's very feasible, unfortunately.
