If you look closer at the AA video, Auto attacks arent part of the GCD. Yourse till attacking while a WS is going on, you can tell by the rise of TP while a ws is going off. And i have never played an MMO where an AA stops or prevents spell casting. Spell casting would however stop AA.
Well, depending on the amount of work they want to do, each weapon could very well have it's own delay as well as initial class weapon (e.g sword, great axe, polearm etc.) like in FFXI every weapon line has a CD delay like delay:528 for some scythe types, and other scythes are lower or higher etc.
Think BR's will be used far more often now that there is an auto attack, hopefully auto attack continues while in BR mode.
BR is very effective right now as long as you don't take forever to do them. Most leve monsters don't need them though because of their low health, but SP parties and NM parties get good use out of them.
Skill chains were nice, but they were not very accomodating outside the few people that were apart of them and were entirely ignored once you got to endgame because WS spam was far better. I think people forget just how useless Skill chains were, maybe nostalgic for their SP parties, but in the end they were pretty bad. BRs allow everyone to get in on the action and they are actually extremely effective. So, I'd honestly consider BR > SC funadmentally better, but like all things FFXIV it will need some work to make it great.
Except Skillchains were actually fun. Who was left out of skillchains in XI? White mages? Skillchains were necessary in endgame fights up until like 2008 when people started zerging everything. I think you're talking out of your ass when you say "I think people forget how useless SCs were", it's more like people remember how fun and effective they USED to be. BRs are dull. Being effective in a fight doesn't change that.
the main argument i see about BR is that they are effective and everyone is involved... but fun... not really.
oh wait, ive seen a post where someone said its fun BECAUSE it does good dmg and its effective... hmmm...
as a whm i don't need to be part of a BR, i rather MB when i feel like with a light-based attack, which you could do in ffxi.
Nobody was excluded. And BR spamming is the most dull and boring thing ever. No timing, no skill, just the same spam all over again, it feels like a macro called: kill mob; press kill mob button, mob dies...
I just love to REACT on things goin on in a battle... Someone does a WS and i can react to it but don't have to. I can try timing AM to really do a ton of dmg at once etc. etc. but i have to time right. Skillchains in ffxi were even different in dmg depending on the timing you did. that is far superior then that current system.
BR atm fits perfectly in a round based game where you press : "End turn" after finished ... but not in this game
edit: i don't need an exact copy of ffxi skillchain system IF we get a proper and FUN and active system to use instead. but so far i rather have the good working ffxi system instead some skillchain copy (which BR is), which just took away all the mechanics making the ffxi-system fun to use.
I was disappointed. It will have to work.. but the stamina gauge is one thing I really liked about this game, and the combat looks so much slower in my opinion =|
If you notice, he only uses one move at a time. Does that mean that's what we are limited to now? If so, it ruins multiple counters as a Pugilist, which if landed, are useful as all hell.. and things of the like
I don't know, not a huge fan of the whole auto attack change in the first place.. It'll grow on me because I have no choice, though. His slow attacking could have been the use of the gamepad though
Whats that about Auto Attack? wolol
skill chains were gimping people honestly. i enjoyed them but to be able to get them off you had tell everyone else to hold thier tp. (not people even involved in the WS) and tell them not to use their tp even longer until the mb lasts. BR is a much better design, but it could use more effects, and special effects or some unique animations, if it worked like chrono cross where certain combos had special interactions, people would love it.
far as the flow of battle, it depended on the battle, but when you got a good partner, doesnt slow the flow at all.
Thanks for the video, Devs. Really looking forward to this and the new content!
uhhh you can do small BRs for small situations, if its a dog pile its because people arent on point. it has more tactical depth than sc, you can do debuffs useful to different party set ups, phys def down, magi def down, tp reduction damage boosts. Also you have to make sure your order is right for some. The lack of tactics is the people doing it, not the system, its fairly strong.
doing BR for incapacitations, etc.
i dont understand what facet you are saying is unbalanced either
BR does'nt work anywhere near as well as wsc and magic burst.
BR is just a dog pile of ws's it will be gone soon enough mark my words so if you think its fixed and like it dont get to attached, like that damn cat that your wife wanted and you didnt so you waited till no one was around tossed the bastard in the car drove a few miles and tossed it out the window , BR wont be around long.

The way BR's are executed doesnt take as much skill as in XI, timing is key as well as the fact that wsc end effects had elemental affinities that added to the strategy of know what wsc&mb elements works best against each mobs weakness.
weapon skill chains+ magic burst were very well polished and man for me as samurai it was fun being the kinda wsc general having tp all the time i was shot callin big time.
Wow lol sooo many of the things that were fun in that game would have been fun in xiv you dont have to copy/paste but man take a good idea and spice it up.
Why should you feel bad about using a great system from the same company when making a game that kinda follows in the same footsteps.
Fun, games need to be fun, SC=fun and BR's well if you played the game you all ready know...
WSC's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62A_rqi0Nmg Summoned pets could join wsc's... strategy/fun

Thats called strategy and team work it was needed, understood and appriciated in XI, thats what this game lacks as well as so many other things the fact that working together ment more then just mashing the buttons at the same time, you had to communicate with your team to prevail and sometimes that ment not just rambling off ws's at random.
I think strategy is a good thing.
It is fun to have to work together with your friends and knowing that if you didnt it ment you would fail.
This game doesnt have that feel at all.
BR is something you do
SC is something you do and want to do over and over.
Its only rule is you join. No finesse at all among the least of its deficiencies. That also ends up being unbalanced because it has no rules. aka...dog-piling.
It's like telling a group of dancers running from one end of the stage to another. Should they jump should they leap, should they twirl, should they synchronize, nope, nope and nope....just plain old running.
I got a question for anyone. More of a realisation too. How will archer be played once AA is in effect? Unlike ffxi, bows are a main weapon not a sub weapon. Will they change archers AA to not consume arrows? I see this ending bad for archers as Arrows will get consumed more quicker and may run out on iccassion just before we use a attack skill. Same goes for the magic classes, how does AA effect them? Again I ask because in ffxi mages didn't go in attack mode they just stood and cast.
Some stuff to consider.
on the topic of BR, and well the game complaints ingeneral. You guys do realise your asking for a tedious game not a challenging one? Why can't stuff be fun to do with out hours of planing only for people not to listen?
Why do you guys want a sc system like ffxi? They help cookie cutting happen. Since not everyone could sc with everything. With br any combo of attacks ws magic can be part of a combo and there is nothing wrong with that. :)
Also notted people rarely do Sc anymore in ffxi they find it a waste of time and tedious to set up.
I think they should be working more on adding new quests and story aspects into the game than worrying about redoing the interface. Getting to an endgame should be one of their top priorities since the game's been out for so long and has had almost no progress on the story itself.
...anyway!
I hope 2-hand weapons delay isn't too high.
Archer will play as it did in xi in other words GREAT! you have complete control of what dmg you wanna do and when.
Its perfect, why would any rng not wanna be able to control when they shoot?
Close quarters=Melee with a nice dagger that may have some nice stats to boot!
You shoot when you want, perfect.
Thank goodness the like 3 ppl that lack to understand this dont matter. =P
All i can say about this one is man w/e you are on it must be some gooood ish, you are completely delusional.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j52dZFJ_wOc&NR=1
lol this one just for fun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxBxK...eature=related
your the delusional one. and also wrong about archers. Archer weapon is the bow not a dagger so it will not be the same as ffxi. They would have to change the class system so that archers used daggers. They are giving the battle classes AA not just the frontal melee. So mages and archer will have an AA. I'm just concerned on how it will effect archer.
Also play ffxi now, the game is very different with a very different community then it started with. People do infact zerg alot, do not talk in groups and rarely do sc. I asked why and what I gave was everyones reply.
When do people BR...oh wait..when to people even log on.
If you want to mud sling at least make sure you're not standing in a room full of mud first of all...It's a pointless endeavor to try to make something better by making it's nearest parallel look worse... It's not making FF14 any better, because it just becomes crap+1 in comparison.
Guy really every thread you are in you seem to be the one saying the most retarded shit and you are in a F-load of threads posting crap, rng in XI's main form of dmg was its ranged weapon duck I doubt anyone could argue that.
Archer having a weak melee weapon like a dagger that is used when close wont make anyone with a brain cell think that they are a close quarters melee class, maybe just you alone would be patrick star enough to think this.
SE wouldnt give Archer AA with a weapon strong enough to make the bow obsolete....... You have issues and i asked you to place me on ignor and damn it i thought i had you there as well ><, because you are annoying but have a starnge power that makes ppl have to reply to your stupid post, thus adding to you extreme post count thus granting you fame and fortune. =/
I see alot of ppl on, even on the 1 choco server i'm trying on.
:) But ya i agree with ya on the mudsling comment and find it funny :)
off quote
again any ideas to how archer and the magic classes will be done up? w/o AA i went from 999 arrows to 957. That is attacking and using skills. they plan on making AA pretty fast once fully put into the game. I fear that archers will consume arrows too quickly under AA. Amd that Also rangers in ffxi didn't really have AA, they manually attacked with their arrows. Most rangers in ffxi melee daggers to build tb then used a arrow ws.
umm learn to read. You the one acting like an idiot. I'm not talking about what your thinking I am. In ffxi daggers are a "main" weapon not the rangers main weapon. And bows where a sub weapon, aka rangers in ffxi when frontal meleeing are under AA but MANUALY using their bows. As in the bows were not under AA. But archers in ffxiv the bow in now the main and only weapon. How is AA goping to be on the Bow, will arrows be consumed? or not? Do you now understand what I was asking? It is pretty clear if you actually read it. And fyi i'm not an idiot. Most ppl who claim I a, are not as smart as they think they are considing a few threads like /lsmes and not fully thinking how /lsmes can be put into game with the current LS set up. Take everything into consideration before labling someone something over a topic your not fully thinking about yourself. Or stop reading posts 1/2 way then coming up with an insult w/o reading.
Again i don't care about my post count or those digi medals. Again i'm no idiot. I fully consider stuff before making a stupid complaint about anything. I suggest you try it some time. Since you fail at doing so. And take time to learn to read slower, since you didn't read my post at all since your replies are not even anything close to my consern/ question.
you know that was all you had to do...... no need for the rudeness
to add all I see is a lalafell beating on a mob with their bow. In DCUO the bow users lol.... thinking back on it is funny. take their bow and use it as a melee weapon. It looks pretty funny also ima see if I can find a vid on it.
found one
this is melee bow + ranged in dcuo. the user uses the bow as both a ranged and melee weapon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V2Z9Ccc1xg
(id kill to have dcuo combat over AA)
After what happened to DCUO, no you don't. Though tera might be able to pull it off right or even SWTOR. Action MMOs are gimmicky at best, and a black hole for user depopulation at worse. Playing with patterns can be hazardous to programing health. The bigger the budget the more you can do the impossible.
FF14 even with the new AA desperately needs more flavor, it's true, but archer's being special is not. Too many ways to get the arc to play like an archer, whether we do it the RO way, the FF11 way, the WoW way, etc.
DCUO sucked. I played multiple classes on that game. The reason why I hated it, there was an ultimate build, and although in FF I would like their to be an ultimate build, in DCUO it didn't seem appropriate that if you wanted to play your class the right way you had to pick a certain weapon. Very limiting when you think about the weapon choices you had. At least this isn't Star Wars: The Old Republic, Ranged tank, lol.
I can imagine archers taking their arrows and start poking mobs with them.
Edit button can make wonders Kilta. I don't really like to see your double/triple post every damn thread you post.
Until we know at least a bit of how they are handling archer it's kinda pointless to discuss it.
Oh and remember not to reply to crazy people, just place an /ignore in place of anything that you would say to it, then post something relevant to the thread.
umm so auto attack works at close range... does that mean archer is getting a melee weapons or are they gonna bash mobs with their bows?
Most likely will play like ffxi rng a small dagger/hand axe in close which coould have some nice stats to boot! i highly doubt you will be wacking the mob with your bow =/ come on... lol.
Check some rng vids from ffxi and i bet thats pretty close to what we will see and rng freakin owned in xi so i am happy.
Now if we could just get samurai....SE
