from a few days ago; EX - AST - get saints. reasonably geared DPS and a DRK. DRK does the usual first 3 mobs to gauge party, then next set, etc. all is fine and they didn't seem to phased by me letting them drop to low HP to max my cleric time as i guess they trusted my judgement and use of Essential etc.
First boss is ok, not great though, DPS felt a bit slow, the DRK was making up for it by appropriately dropping Grit and using CD's, the main issue was id attempted to use a noct shield pre-pull but the DRK pulled as it hit so i was stuck in noct; not regen healing for me to DPS more, maybe attributed to why we saw a second set of ballons during BB rotation [aka the sign of slow dps] but we live.
do next 2 sets of adds normally; kill ants and then
boom
tank just leaves
no word
nothing.

DPS are like o_0? literally.
the SMN is leader and supposedly hits find new tank plz.

i decide i can handle shit one by one as they come so i charge off and fight each enemy i come across, DPS follow suit and we roughly but surely proceed. manage things ok but man im sure those hornets hit progressivly harder.

second honeycomb, we stand about for 10 minutes waiting because orn hornets. eventually we decide to use a titan sacrifice to clear this section.
done, get to second boss.

we conclude that it probably wouldnt end well due to the bosses spike damage so we sit and wait
and wait
talk about things
wait some more

id say half an hour later and still no tank join we sadly decide to call it quits.

its rather a shame when you think, ah ill just heal the dps and let us clear a bit further while we wait for a new tank only to never get it and essentially wait the amount of time it wuda taken to re-q and near clear another ex

still, being stuck in Noct by a speedy tank and then left in the lurch like that, horror

healed arbor for my roullete yesterday. the paladin melted. they were decently geared, had full str on right side but whatever its fine. they even used CDs. and yet somehow, if i ever entered cleric stance it was for a mere few seconds to cast shadow flare and bam, full to 40 percent in 2.8 seconds.

It wasn't so much the healers but their leader.
Lol it was a T13 clear for two people.
They kept dying after every mechanic and the healers kept raising them every time and by the end at 20% or 4%hp they couldn't heal from raising so much.
I mention it would be easier to leave them dead and save your mp since they mess up dive bombs.

Their leader tries to shit talk me so whatever lol I'm the only one to not die and they keep raising the newbies.
Needless to say they never cleared and their leader tried to call me garbage for "attacking his healers"

Too much trash getting through when you give away ilvl.

So I was white maging the first dungeon last night just 'cause and I was placed in a party with a new arcanist. So throughout the dungeon and everything's going smooth, then I notice that the newbie arcanist is healing the tank. I'm confused, I usually take that as a F-you to a healer when a DPS is healing the tank with the excepting being the healer is dead or AFK. They had the little leaf above their head so I assumed this is probably their first dungeon but my lord, did that get annoying fast. He probably thought he was helping a bit by helping me heal but when your Physick is recovering a total of 70HP and my cure is recovering around 300-400HP it becomes unnecessary. I left the dungeon without saying anything to him but I kind of regret it 'cause he'll just carry that odd attitude into other parties which will get him promptly yelled at for attempting to do the healer's job instead of his dps job. Haha, maybe he's getting ready for the scholar role.

Yep, it is easier to leave them dead for certain parts anyway in coil carries rather than ruin the whole instance. Although if you are doing T13 unsync with that level 60 HP pool, once the green DB marker is out anyone can just run all the way up to Bahamut, get pushed back towards the center and still live. Megaflare might show up dead center but that is easy to adjust for the stack.

Not me.. the bigger, the better, the faster, so long as the tank is confident that he can take all that damage. I've had a handful of (mostly DRK for some reason) toxic tanks that pulled way more than they could handle, wiped the group, then blamed it on me.

Same.... DFed as AST with some FC mates, one of which was our usual tank whom went that time on DPS... had a DF'd tank pull -massive- in Arboretum.... I turned to the FC chat and went, "[FC-mate] DO MOARE PULLS LIKE THIS +_+"

Actually, in lower level content as an Arcanist it's actually technically correct to heal after you apply your DoTs.

The difference between the Acn and Whms cure at lower levels won't be that big since you are wearing the same armor for the most part, and once all the DoTs are applied would you rather the Acn spam his 70 potency Ruin and the Whm heal or the Whm spam their 170 potency Stone II and the Acn heal?

Mind you it shouldn't be more than a few GDCs before his DoTs wear off and has to reapply them, but there's a chance that the Acn was actually an experienced player and was replacing some Ruins with Physics so that you could cleric and Stone II for a bit.

Here's every healers dream light party in low level dungeons (level 47 and below). Tank has trash gear and doesn't know how too/refuses to use taunt abilities. Then the two DPS are two BLM who suck agro off of tank (not necessarily there fault, the tank isn't making an effort to establish control). Then, because the blm's are built like paper and 1 hit = 25-33% of there HP. Decide too run away (agroing a completely separate group of mobs).

Surprisingly nobody dies because healer pulls agro and tankS 3 of the 5 mobs engaged (self heals/self regen + regen on PLD ftw).

I just experienced that in The Aurum Vale. *Jumps into the pool of acid after dungeon completion*

My FC healer gets bored when I (or any other tank) does small-ish pulls. I think it's an attitude that is shared by a lot of career healers in the game, because I often get high-level healers who request bigger pulls. Unfortunately, a lot of those healers are simply not as good as they think they are; or, occasionally, the healer's idea of a "big pull" and my idea of a "big pull" are not the same. Sadly, HW dungeons have a lot of doors that restrict how big the pulls can get.

OK, a couple days ago, I was running my Ex Roullete. I was with a DRK, a SMN and some melee. I was an AST. One of the DPS said he was new to the dungeon and the tank was totally comprehensive, he said he would go slow and I decided to go slow too.

We wiped at the firs pull. My fault, I was locked in Cleric Stance and the tank died. While I was trying rez him without Swift, I died.

Tank was still nice and didn't bother, but said DPS help from healer wasn't needed. As we went into the dungeon, tank was pulling one enemy at a time, when possible and I was getting bored. DPS was low, tank wasn't either using Darkside or any CDs available. I told him to pop at least Darkside and he asked 'why?'. I told him it would improve his DPS, then he said: Why would I want improve my DPS? O.o

I told him it would help kill monsters faster, so I wouldn't need to heal that much (since I was helping DPS anyway). He only said that 'if he used Darkside, he would loose his enmity bonus' and pulled the next mob. What?? O.o

After the second boss, I tried again, told him if he wasn't raising his DPS, at least he should pop some CDs. Then he asked 'why?' again 'I'm not dying or anything...'. O.o

I said that he could do it to help me, so he wouldn't suffer a lot of damage. He said DRK's CDs was horrible and there was no point in using them, also that he needed the enmity bonus Grit gives and a lot of his CDs was tied to Darkside so he wouldn't be able to use them anyway. O.o

I told him that Grit and Darkside coexist and asked nicely one more time and he said ok. With the condition I stopped using Cleric Stance, beacuse of 'too many close calls'. I didn't want to explain that the close calls was because he wasn't popping CDs or that Essential Dignity works wonders if the target has Low HP. I just agreed with no Cleric.

The tank then turned Darkside on, popped some CDs and we could finish the dungeon normally...

(At least this horror story had a happy ending)

I can at least understance the Darkside part, DRK IS the only class with no mutually exclusive stances, so people probably thought that the stances were mutually exclusive

I had a PLD do this in Saint.M. Spawns all mobs at second honeycomb, doesnt kite at all, hits hallowed ground. As soon as hollowed falls off he goes to 100%hp to zero in the blink of an eye.

Just saying, I always die in a big pull.. with everything up. I've even seen healers(while on DPS) just give up on big pulls and let the tanks drop. Majority of the time a DF healer just don't wanna deal with it. Maybe because they prefer a tank they know. And yeah their idea of a big pull is probably lower than a tank's idea of one. I try to group up 6 mobs.. anything more than that, and I know I'm dead.

I was thinking the same thing. Ruin hits like a feather pillow. Why not let the conj/white mage throw a few Stone II's instead?

recently had a tank that popped EVERY single CD while the shield at the entrance of the instance was still up...
well at least he was using CDs at all...

What I meant was since HG makes you immune to damage, what's the point of using other CDs when it's active? He could have pop other CDs after HG drops.

Not as much of a horror story as some on here, but I was in a Fractal run last night. One of the dps was new, and not terribly well geared from what I could see (didn't check specifically, but sub 10K HP isn't common these days). Run was proceeding fine until the tank decided to attempt pulling the two groups of mobs after the first boss together. This is the pack where if combined, three of the mobs do the hard hitting AOE moves that you're supposed to stun or silence. Which no one was doing. I kept us up for a while but wound up dead out of nowhere and the group followed. I've done that pull successfully before, but it kind of requires the enemies to die at some point.

The tank proceeded to acknowledge that maybe he'd pulled a bit too aggressively for the circumstances, so it's all good.

It's late now, so I'm debating whether to work on my WHM anima dungeons or crash after a very tedious day of running Void Ark on my bard. "Eh, sure, let's go for a few." Snowcloak goes just fine, although it took a bit long, so I go for Sastasha HM. I'm on my game with the tank through the first pull, then the second pull comes up.

Brain: "Ok, let him pick everything up, toss Virus on something since it's up, then Divine Seal Regen just like you're used to doing."
Fingers: "Toss Virus then Divine Seal, got it. *hits Cleric Stance*"

So I stood there like a fool while the tank got ate up with no heals.

The problem is that it's not just one bee, and they don't use Final Sting on the same timer. Keeping an eye on all of them is not likely to happen, so popping HG is the correct decision; however, it sounds as though he/she popped it too early and ignored the rest of his/her buffs.

The proper timing is a little tricky there; because the Bee's come out in 2 sets, and their Final Sting timers do not align. Usually, the first Final Sting comes either just after or immediately before the second set of adds spawn. So a Pld, (or Drk) should time their HG (or WD) for around that time. A couple methods for getting the timing correct is to either, A) focus target the first bee that you hit. This target is, usually, be the first Final Sting timer to go off so long as the Dps are both attacking the wall and not the bees. When the Pld sees the Final Sting cast bar, they can pop HG and soak the hits. or B) wait until you actually get hit by a Final Sting and pop HG right after to soak the rest of the following hits. Method B is, obviously, riskier, but one Final Sting is unlikely to kill a Pld so long as they are using either Rampart, Sentinel, or Bulwark. They have to watch that HG timer closely to make sure they have defense when it expires.

Drks have it a little worse than Pld's here, because Walking Dead can be canceled if the Drk is healed for their maximum Hp during Living Dead status (before they even get the effect of Walking Dead). It can also be stripped off of them early by getting healed for their maximum Hp immediately after WD is activated. This means that they can:

Pop Living Dead > get hit by a Final Sting > Walking Dead activates > Healer sees Drk's Hp at 1 and panics > Healer heals Drk to full > Walking Dead status is removed by max heals > Drk gets nailed by the follow up Final Stings of the other bees and dies.

This happens really often because most healers will immediately cast their strongest heals on the Tank when they see their Hp drop that low. I feel relatively safe when I'm planning to use HG as a Pld in that part of a dungeon, but as a Drk I always have Shadow Wall at the ready just in case my Whm cancels my WD buff. That being said, all tanks are doomed if the Dps can't clear the wall before the tank runs out of buffs. Sooner or later, they will run out of defense.

My horror story would be when i was levelling Astrologian. I was doing Brayflox's Longstop, and the tank was a Dark Knight (Xaela... He also totally fit the stereotype). First of all, he was pulling to much, and since i was still learning the class it was kind of difficult, and he was super flimsy (weird thing, since he was level 60). Anyway, first boss, he for some reason starts complaining about his girlfriend (for some reason....). Ok, the first boss is over and we continue 'til the hardest part to heal of the dungeon starts, the big lagoon thing. The tank was still overpulling, making things extra difficult, since the mobs there hit quite hard. We wiped a few times because of his extreme pulls, and he was getting salty/super passive-agressive. We hoped that he could catch the sign not to overpull, but he was being very rude, so we kicked him. Later, a friend of one of the party members joined, who was pretty nice, so it all ended nicely.

I wanted to get some levels in on my almost forgotten AST. Every Trial Roulette has dumped my AST in Ravana. It's some sort of curse.

Leveling Roulette gives me Sohm Al. The WAR pulls the first two mobs, the MNK & SMN start to dps and so, after waiting a few seconds I dump a regen on his head and switch to cleric's. That is the exact moment that the WAR runs to the next group of mobs.

So before I get to cast anything, I start running after him, turn off cleric's and...get aggro since the regen was still going. No big deal, he's got aggro now and he's facetanking a load of mobs. Dps kill the mobs and I start wondering if it's normal to use Benefic II on CD.

Next room, same story. I doublecheck, yeah, he's got Defiance on. Odd. Oh well.

I decided to check his lodestone after the run, thinking he might've been so hard to heal because of a low ilvl. That'd make way more sense than him not using any cooldowns, right?

Wrong.

He's level 60 in full Void Ark gear.

An "end game player" who didn't realize healing generates aggro. Nuff said.

Dusk Vigil and since Defiance is supposed to be the Warrior's defensive stance, it would be something of an abnormality.

Out of the five new leveling dungeons released between 51-60 (DV, Sohm Al, Aery, Vault, Library), I found Sohm Al seemed to have the highest spike in damage from trash. I more or less did the all those dungeons with a good FC tank who kept their gear fairly up to date at the time and felt a notable spike in damage received from Trash in Sohm Al compared to the other 4. I doubt it's me as a healer because I've ran into similar healer thoughts when doing that dungeon with PuG and FC tanks alike.

It's not a dungeon I recommend mass pulling on for that reason.

I know, though usually, I'd say you'd have the time to heal the entire party. During one trash pull (with the cryodragon), aggro was all over the place and even Essential Dignity could barely buy me enough time to spend one GCD on anyone else!

Every single tank who can't judge its own surviability is a horror story of its own. Poor CD management, poor gear, yet these players try to do pulls like i210 savage tanks.

Sometimes I am getting really tempted to turn the cleric stance on and let them prove their worth... other times I just regen > stoneskin and let them swim - or sink in some cases. ^.^

I wonder how many deaths would be on my hands were it not for the Benediction and Tetragrammaton. Sometimes even these are not enough tho, it would be nice to see more instant heals, or at least more stacks for the Tetra.

It is normal. A lot of people don't realize that Defiance doesn't actually do anything to a War's Defense.

Pld's and Drk's gain a 20% reduction in dmg when in Shield Oath / Grit, respectively. War's do not. They gain 25% increase to their maximum Hp, and a 20% increase in healing (which does not equal the same eHp as a Pld or Drk). The only direct increase they receive to their defense is a slight increase in their Parry rate (2% per stack of Wrath, adding up to 10% at Infuriated status). That's it.

The strength of a War's defense is tied to how efficiently they use their buffs. Being in Defiance is not enough. They have to cycle inner beast, and use proper synergy with their defensive / offensive cooldowns to take full advantage of their self-healing. Because of this, a War's Hp is more susceptible to sudden drops and increases. If the War is not using their CD's efficiently (which, sadly, is common these days now that they all seem to think that they're a Dps class and not Tanks) their Hp will bottom out very quickly.

That being said, War's defensive CD's have ridiculously good synergy and are very easy to use. You can pop practically any 2 buffs in the Warrior kit and they will pair well, so even lack luster War's can put on a decent showing of having "good" defense. It's for this reason that you don't typically see War's dropping like flies in dungeons. Taking full advantage of their kit and maximizing their potential is hard, but keeping up a baseline defense with the CD's they have available is not difficult.

I just use stances as an indication of style. Usually, between the tank's stance and the first pull, you can tell if it's safe to spend time in Cleric's. That does explain why my first Fractal run had a WAR tank who did the entire run with massive pulls in Deliverance though, if Defiance doesn't give access to special cds or something. Run went fine too, I mean, it was hard work keeping up and I certainly dealt 0 damage, but it was fun and fast :D

True but the cooldowns of the warrior are stronger by default.
1*0,8*0,3=0,24 effective DR. While the Warrior got 1*0,3=0,3 effective DR.
The Warrior got 3,2% less "mitigation" under no effect. But 2,8% more mitigation under an similar effect in def. (eg. 30% DR CD)
Thats the reason good warriors are tougher and bad warriors a squishier. The usefullness of the warriors CD´s are just a bonus.

Please correct me if there have been changes made since I last checked tanks.

Some cooldowns require Defiance to use, but we can stance dance to Deliverance once triggered to still get their full effects, and the amount of ways we have to mitigate as Warrior is unbelievable. It's not as cut-and-dry like with Paladin.

Then we have strong cooldowns that don't require a stance like Thrill of Battle which can actually mean having "Defiance" -5% HP while in Deliverance. Pairing that up with Inner Beast 20% mitigation/damage/self-heal for-example before stance dancing, and with proper skill play a healer likely won't notice much of a difference. Warrior could then next infuriate/build more stacks then fell cleave/decimate the living crap out of the mobs, burning things faster.

Plus three of our cooldowns give a wrath/abandon stack, so the job skill set is promoting cooldown use if you want to do some serious damage and mitigation.

I will say though a Warrior has no one to blame but themselves if they die in Deliverance without a cooldown to compensate for the lack of Defiance. The healer is likely trying to heal you but without the Defiance healing buff, one should mitigate their HP levels.

Out of the five new leveling dungeons released between 51-60 (DV, Sohm Al, Aery, Vault, Library), I found Sohm Al seemed to have the highest spike in damage from trash. I more or less did the all those dungeons with a good FC tank who kept their gear fairly up to date at the time and felt a notable spike in damage received from Trash in Sohm Al compared to the other 4. I doubt it's me as a healer because I've ran into similar healer thoughts when doing that dungeon with PuG and FC tanks alike.

It's not a dungeon I recommend mass pulling on for that reason.

Ugh yes, the first time someone pulled the whole first area with the poison explodey things before mini-rafflesia I was like please never do that again.

Short story from tank perspective then my healing horror story... I AM a 210 savage tank. I never do big pulls without asking. I use my cooldowns responsibly and appropriately. I ran EX with a healer from a linkshell last night and things were going just fine. St Mocianne's, I checked her gear, 170 wep, had a DRG and a BLM so I kept it to relatively small pulls. And we did okay till we got to the second boss. She forgot about the bee conga line of death, got caught in the crosshairs, died. I switched to Defiance, used Equilibrium and every defensive cooldown trying to hold on for the dps bc we were at 20% but still died and DRG was next and BLM followed shortly after. No big, did it again and cleared. Three of us commented on lag spikes.

Then on the pull following the second boss, a modest four mobs, I had hate on everything, popped bloodbath, then raw intuition + awareness, positioning was fine, and went down faster than I could Holmgang or Equilibrium.

Me: ........

She raised me but we wiped. So we're resetting and she says:

Why did you die?

I said I didn't know, I popped three cooldowns and it was a small pull, and she said her heals were only doing "about 5% of your health."

It was weird. It was one of the most inexplicable deaths I've ever had. I think we were equally confused.

Sunday I was finishing up my Animated Elements and only had two dungeons to go. A WAR from the FC agreed to go into Aery with me. We load in, I buff, he runs off...and immediately pulls the first two groups of mobs. I go into full oh shit mode, sacred soil, E4E, reapply adlo and spam physick, but he does down like a sack of lead.

Him: wtf
Me: I don't recommend big pulls here ._.

After that he was completely silent, didn't say another word to me, but the rest of the dungeon went smooth as silk. I had zero issues healing him and was able to dps for at least half of each pull, more on boss fights. We cleared it and he said in FC chat as we left "I have a personal commitment, gotta go" and I apologized for the death on the first pull, he said it happens, and left.

I felt bad about it but personally would never have pulled that big, esp with the dps being a ninja and a bard.

Queued solo in progress for the Vault and got a join in progress at 36 min. They were at the second boss and had been through not one but TWO scholars who had apparently been so terrible they'd either both been dismissed or left after multiple wipes. The tank commented, after the clear, that the healing was so different he couldn't believe I was the same class. That felt really good after having a tank die on me. ._.
