Even with the PS3's "limitations" they keep thinking of new ways to improve the general performance of the console, proof of that is in the evolution of games for the console as in games that were release when the console came out versus the games we have now, compare any of the old games with the new ones and you will see a pretty big difference, the PS2 didn't have any update system like the PS3 has so I'm hoping there will be future updates to the game that will make it look better even if it's only 720p.
Some of the breakthroughs I noticed where games like Metal Gear Solid 4, all the Uncharted games (compare U1 with U3),the Crysis games, the Bioshock games, the Dead Space games, etc., every iteration has come with a substantial boost to the way the developers take advantage of the console, which means there's some juice left in it for games to come, have you seen the Resident Evil 6 game? I wouldn't have believed games/graphics like that were possible when the PS3 came out, but then again this is only IMHO ;D
